I have an issue with the passenger door. If I use central locking, It won't open from the outside and can only be open from the inside. But once I unlocked from the inside, the door will open and close fine. I bought a 2008 Primastar a few days ago and its in really good shape, it has no dents, engine running well and nice and clean on the inside. But for some reasons it has doors issues. Rear door won't open (fixed that), passenger door has issues and driver door kept making the "loud" clonking sound when open and close (although, I think I may have found a solution, but if it doesn't work, I will follow your video and replace the check strap). With the door issue, I would start with the plug in the hinge area (th-cam.com/video/vDABazHMBBE/w-d-xo.html )(be careful not to bend the pins), then check the wires in the rubber tube before moving into the door. Well done! Think you lost a spring to that pin if the backing plate came off? I’ve been called to fix this issue for a friend. After taking out the sprung contact connector it was like yours - his basically fell apart. Reason being there’s two very small lock washers that push over the back to hold it into position. These rust, back plate can falls off & the springs to each of the pins can end up in the inside of the door panel. I’ll take off the door panel to retrieve the plastic backing plate & springs back via a magnet/magnetic screwdriver. I’ll connect the wires as you’ve done to see the motors are working as they should. I’ll rebuild the sprung connector - should be easy ie solder wires to the metal plates within the connector / glue backing plate back to connector - use crimp connections to wires & redo the others that plug into the connector. Yep, about half hour to do - saves £32 but it’ll last longer & can easily be attended to again if needs be - no fear of those locking washers rusting again. Ta for video/link.

Mr Larcs, Thank you for your video, I think I have a similar issue but I cannot open the door. I have removed the panel from the inside but still struggling to open in so I can have a look. I use it for picking up guests so it's a bit of an issue for me, not that we have many guests with Covid but still I need to fix it. Thanks. You've got a tough one there! I can't see how you can do anything without taking that inner panel off? Once that's off, my first check would be the handle/lock lever and the pull cables back to the lock. Good luck👍 Cheers Larcs.
@@LarcsWorkshop Hey, thanks for the quick reply. I did remove the panel, pulled and looked at all the cables. Everything seemed to be working, but door not opening. Now. It is minus 30c here right now and I decided to start the vehicle and heat it up as I had to take it somewhere and viola, the van door opened. It's like something is freezing somewhere!? @@snowdogarcticadventureco.9246 wow that's cold 🥶. It could be that the door seals got wet and froze together. I've heard somewhere that if you put a thin smear of Vaseline on the seals it stops them freezing? Not tried it myself but it might be worth a go? Cheers Larcs 👍

My vivaro side door makes the unlock sound but doesn't unlock it, it locks just fine but won't unlock, so I assume it's getting power, I can see the arm moving in the rear end of the door when I lock it but it just twitches when I unlock it ... any ideas?

Hi, I'm shopping for a van. I have only ever driven VW 's for the last 20 years so I have been looking at T4 and T5 transporters to convert to camper. I will be buying in January and will have 6- 7k to spend but I have been told that I would get a newer more reliable and already converted Vivaro for the same price. Would you agree? I was in Cornwall 2 weeks ago and the amount of VW vans I saw struggling up the hills lol. I will be travelling down to Devon and Cornwall from Hertfordshire a lot so I will need something that can handle it and of course be reliable. What are your thoughts?
Wow, now that's a BIG question! Granted, you'd get a newer, better spec & lower millage Vivaro, Trafic or Primastar for the same price. Reliability, hmm, they all have their issues, but you have to think about the 'VW tax😉'. I've been a VAG guy all my life, but having driven the Vivaro for a while, I could sway! The VW's have a more solid, quality feel to them but the Vivaro engine feels/sounds a little less agricultural. Also the VW vans really hold their money well and are easy to sell too. It's such a personal thing that I wouldn't want to strongly advise you either way, I would say to test drive both as close together (time wise) to get your own opinion. Also there is a massive following out there for the VW's with limitless advice on problems (you'll also be able to go to VW festivals etc.). Good luck and keep us informed of what you decide. Also forgot to say that some of the T4's we're quite underpowered, the T5"s aren't so bad. The Vivaro seems fine with the hills, we did Porlock not long ago loaded with camping gear and it coped with no problems.👍
Hi great video. Wonder if you can offer me any advice please. I also have a sliding door that wont open on my Vauxhall Combo van. I dont have a handle on the inside to open it but have removed the inner panel. Should I be able to pull a leaver to manually open the door to enable me to then reach the electrics and test them as you did? Guess what I'm asking is - is it possible to open the door manually regardless of any electrical problems the door may have? If I cant open the door I cant test the electrics. Help!!!!!!
Thanks, I don't know for sure on a Combo, but normally (especially on older vans) there would be a cable or linkage from the outside handle to the lock. If you can find where this fixes to the lock and operate it, hopefully you'll be able to open the door. Good luck sorting it out 🤞. Cheers Larcs 👍

If the electrics dont actally hold the door shut (not sure how they work) Then I'm guessing it must be that the door thats jammed somewhere. Either on the catch or the runners. Just the video I was looking for - my side door locks sometimes - but it's quite random and needs the door to be opened and closed again to try and make it lock. I just looked and 2 of my pins are a bit short. I'll try and fix it before I hand over cash for a new one though!
