I have a 2020 M340i xDrive (Stage 2 Tuned)..... why am I soooo attracted to getting a Subi right now???!!!! In Australia, we have the VB WRX Club Spec (a TR with STi Wing) on offer now and I feel it's "calling my name!!!" aaarrrggghhh 😊
Full video watcher here! I had similar thoughts when I ordered my 2024...hopefully it will be here in a few weeks and I'll immediately install some JXR Performance black badges
Subaru doesn’t need to release an STi . They know the enthusiast community will make the most out of the fa24 platform. And well they have . Just look how much power they’ve squeeze out in just about 2 years
I agree. I owned a VA and when I first saw the VB I though Subaru had lost their minds. It's odd how it's grown on me. Once I test drove one I immediately noticed all the things they fixed from the VA, and made me like it even better.
I’ve waited long enough for a hatch wrx and waited for the perfect time to buy seems like the more I wait the worst it will get … I think I’ll just go with what’s available before it’s all gone and done … should of bought last year while it was less expensive and interest rates were low . Also thinking of buying back some else’s car lease. Good vid
The DCCD controller fits right into the VB interior from what I've heard. Pretty sure they will bring back the STi. If it'll be electric or not is up for debate
As much as I'd love a fa24 paired with a sti drivetrain, a hybrid sti could be cool. Imagine a fa24 powering only the rear wheels and electric powering the front. They could bring the engine way back to improve weight distribution and electric motors would make insane launches
If it ends up being a DCT I would be more excepting than any kind of Hybrid or Electric. At least a good high quality DCT can be made as a poor man’s Sequential, like the new GTR from Nissan. Their DCT in the Nismo is very good compared to the lower end ones that most people think of, but I would expect it since it costs over 100k.
No STI. Unfortunately its finished. In Aus we are getting only 150 units of the Club Spec edition(manual only). STI emblems and badges etc, Recaro seats, tuned suspension and steering. 19" wheels and Brembos. STI body kit with the classic rear Spoiler.
I owned a 2017 wrx and I regret trading in for a 2022 forester sport (2 kids later) . I dreamed that they would eventually come up with a turbo version and as all ways they disappointed. I do love my forester it checks all the boxes for a family friendly daily driver . I’m looking to eventually buy another wrx because at this point I would never get a new car in today’s market. I may add !! I didn’t get the new wrx because it was only a 3 added horsepower I would have said F them kids daddy has a new wrx .
Hey! I love this video as well as all of your points! Do you mind if I can ask for some advice as well please? The only reason I'm thinking about a new 23 WRX base with automatic is because of the twisting key ignition. I have a 2017 Subaru Outback Limited, which i am super happy with, except for the laundrylist of issues I have with push button start. Would you still recommend that I buy or trade in for a base WRX?
Also, is there any way to convert a push button start vehicle from the factory back to a physical key? Because if I were to do that with my Outback, I would seriously consider just modding it than trading in or getting a new car. Thank you very much for your help and advice.
Hi I enjoyed your video and insight on whether a STI will be made available any time soon. Question, some dealers in my area are selling their 2023 WRX’s $2,000 below MSRP, should I buy the 23 or wait and buy the 24 at Invoice ? Invoice has gone up $1,000 per model. Essentially the 23 could be considered a two year old car by November when the 25’s should be rolling out.
I don't believe Subaru needs an STI. In fact I feel Subaru should be continuing to invest in the Forester/Outback/Crosstrek more. That is where they sell the most units. The market demand isn't strong enough for an STI. Unless Subaru comes out with a 400HP motor with a better transmission what part of the market are they going to target?
They've never "needed" a sti, but the demand is there. The number one complaint I hear from tuning enthusiasts is the weak transmission. They already have a better transmission, it's the sti trans they've always used, and the fa24 is capable of reaching 400hp rather easily. Especially if they used the combined port and direct injection system of the BRZ.
I’ve seen a VB at 600hp, the only issue is the trans was too weak and they swapped to an STI. It always comes down to the Transmission followed by the ECU requiring a MOTEC instead of a COBB to go full blast.
And people are still waiting on the evo to come back. Like the evo the sti is dead, and it would honestly be better for Subaru to let it stay that way then to release some bastard electric car with the sti name.
The TR definitely is a right direction. Even if Subaru is doggedly not giving us the STi, I think VB has enough potential in exception of the STi transmission, DCCD, and limited slip diff. I'll wait another two years. I have money and a BRZ to enjoy for a time being, waiting for that perfect WRX to roll by. If STi comes out, great. If not, will there be thousands more special editions and beefed up versions of VBs coming? Absolutely. Is Subaru stupid for not having a brand halo car? Absolutely.
If the Sti goes electric, or hybrid it’ll have the CVT transmission and none of us want that. Just get the TR, mod it, tune it and put a big carbon fiber wang on that thang. 😜👍👍
I’ve owned several Sti’s over the years. (2004, 2007, 2016) all modified, all great cars. The current WRX looks like a glorified Corolla. Subaru needs to remove their heads out of their asses and build a two door, manual transmission, AWD 400hp plus beast. This Hybrid this and EV that is not gonna please the enthusiasts. And it will definitely not field a Rally Car with ideas like that. SUBARU, REBUILD THE 22B.
I’m not sure at this point we ever see another STI. Look at what happened to the EVO….. the STI is another fallen soldier. If you want Japanese performance the time has come to buy Honda, Toyota, and maybe Nissan if you have the cash for the 400Z
As much as I would love it, a VB STI is not coming. At least not in the US. Especially not after the new EPA regulations for car makers. I also guarantee that if Subaru does attempt, which if in the US, it would most likely be a hybrid, and people are going to b***h about it so badly and say things like, “Oh, it's not a true STI because it's hybrid”. Subaru does not offer any hybrid vehicle in their lineup, and everything close is a deviation of their Toyota partnership, like the Solterra. They're also a business, and their bread and butter is the Outback, Forester, and Crosstrek. Wouldn't be surprised if we lose the WRX in the next few years. Lastly, they put the nail in the STI coffin when they released the WRX TR. For that price, an STI would have to be closer to 50k because why would anyone buy a WRx TR if an STI trim would only be slightly more. Sorry guys, but the STI trim has sailed, at least for this round.
I work for Subaru. I was told at a recent event that the next STI will be all electric and therefor it will be years before we see one.
Please say it ain’t so
Who wants it?
Lame
This has been known for awhile now
Yup. I worked for Subaru and currently have a friend that still works there. Same info I have.
Rex without a manual is nuts.

Let the info fly
I almost ran away but I appreciate your honesty and I wanted to say hello 👋🏽🍻
hey hey!
Good video
If you love the brand, you grow with it ;)
I would pay for a factory swap on a transmission as well
Keep the vids coming
Cheers thanks!
They could simply release a STi 6speed version of the same wrx they already sell, and people would love it.
Thanks for the update !
You bet!

Evo guys went though this already. First comes the optimism, some time later the reality kicks in...
that STi aint coming and if it does itll be electrified. They made a big mistake not releasing it on the VB chassis.

Motortrend rumors coming out 😁
I’m planning on getting a VB, don’t feel like waiting. Plus the more I look into the VB, the more fun it looks
Facts! I love mine, and wasn’t sure about it when I bought it!

Thats fine. I plan on getting VB as a daily and an STI is just a little much to grab groceries and dry cleaning.
Stuck through. Boston 👊🏻

Hard pass. I like ICE and mechanical cars only.
Great video much appreciate your work and knowledge keep it up
Howdy from south central Texas bud🤠
I was watching the new subaru eye sight technology for manual cars and in one of the clips I saw STI on the dash.
VB bro 🤝🏾
Yessir!
Two door version of the STI is long past due.

A dct would be so nice! I don’t think it will ever happen on a Subie
@@AutoEnthusiast A DCT would be easier to make compliant than manual at least.
time to get a motorcycle if sti is not coming anytime soon
If you say you'd pay $8k for a sti transmission then why do you need subaru to do it? You could easily do that today
Because it wouldn't be warrantied and OEM and there's a big value to that
I'm thankful to have my 22 wrx no matter what happens. Thanks for the video

STI will be a parts catalog soon. WRX will be the car with added STI parts will likely what the future holds.

Meanwhile Subaru does an emergency refresh on the 2010 WRX into the 2011, adding more flaring and and improving things overall.
