Thanks man! Yeah I think we're about out of random issues at this point so each day we're closer and closer to this thing working right. Phoenix has been awesome lately. 👌
Hey Matt. You probably already know this but it's caught out a few people where I live. For the power steering pump when you need to fully burp the fluid before you start the engine otherwise when you start it up it just immediately wrecks the new pump. Love the videos dude! I have an 07 JDM legacy GT that I plan on doing a few bolt ons for so your videos are super helpful
Yeah, made sure to initially burp the power steering with the engine off while it was in the air, but don't think the leaky rack helps unfortunately 🥲 i appreciate it man! Should have plenty of other helpful vids with this car. Needs lot of work! 🤣
Saaaaameeee, need this thing tuned up so we can do more fun stuff, want to really document the etuning process as there isn't a lot of info for people to go off of on what to expect. 👌
Shout out to my boy Phoenix. you should get a mini jump 3 for at home use ive had no issue with mine and congrats on finally getting the afr gauge installed!
Nooooice you got Mittens up and running. Even with the little NoNo 🤣 Now I can't wait for the tune to be dialed in and see you actually drive her out in the streets. Maybe even take phoenix out for a spin 😁
Can't happen soon enough. We took it to a little meet today. This car needs some serious work to grt where we want it lol. Awesome Watching it come back to life though. Phoenix has had a couple rides in it already 🤣
How are the autos compared to the manual? I'm debating on which version outback I want to get. I'm not sure if I plan to mod the car...but we all know how that goes XD
I would say if you can find a manual for a decent price, I'd get that everytime. I picked the outback up originally because it was clean and I needed a daily, swapping it to a manual is going to be a complete pain, and the legacy I had purchased off a customer for a stupid good deal randomly that I couldn't pass up. The 5 speed manual and 5eat are similar in how much power they can hold stock, and the 5eats are easy to get mkre power out of by adjusting linepressure and/or installing an uograded valvebody, but even after that, the manual cars feel much more engaging to drive, and are easier to get parts for, as well as being very straightforward for swapping to a 6 speed if wanted, whereas the 5eat to 5mt/6mt swap is nearly undocumented, confusing, and requires a ton of work to get things operating correctly.
@@MatlasDI I appreciate the thorough explanation! Imma aim to get a manual, I'll probably miss driving a manual if I get an auto. But if not luck, an auto still sounds like a good choice
@@chino581991 yup yup, I think either way you'll love it. I'll likely release more info on hoe to squeeze more power out of 5eats in the future as well 👌
Yeah we'll wind up doing wheels, suspension and all that at some point in the near future and get it looking better, just trying to get it running right first. 👌
Not on this one yet, but it's not too bad to do on the 5eats. Once we get into tuning I may flush things out and do a relearn, but we will at some point be putting in the built 5eat from the outback.
@@MatlasDI I did a few drain and fills in the past 5k miles, fluid looks brand new. Did a few relearns but the shift into 3rd is still brutal, feels like someone kicking the back of my seat. Shift into 2nd is harsh when the car is cold. Expecting the 5eat will grenade at some point.
@@85mmonroe if you don't notice any slippage in any gears I'd probably start with a new valve body. They shit out pretty easy and won't throw codes unless it's pretty bad.
Wouldn't be impossible to swap to an sti engine, but can get expensive depending on where you source parts. There are a lot of cool jdm parts for that generation to make it look the part I'd check out mysubieparts.com and see what he has currently for sale. I'm a lot more fluent on builds and things for the bp chassis', but know of a few people that have done ej20x swaps or wrx 255s without having to break the bank too much.
Have you done a TransGo Shift kit mod? I hears theyre good for 5EAT. I know the pain of the power steering whining issue after replacing with a new power pump. It went away after many turns for 2 an half hrs. Fuck, these cars are so sensitive.
Yeah they can be a pain. I think it's actually alternator bearings at this point whining as the power steering feels good now, but there is a decent leak from the rack. Good opportunity to swap to a 15+sti rack. Haven't tried the transgo, but have also heard good things. The 5eat in the outback has all level10 performance components. Used to talk quite a bit with hexmods about various solutions but I believe he is no linger in business.
@@MatlasDI Definitely the bearings. I can still hear a faint whine during my cold start, I think its time to replace the alternator. Oh yeah 100% on the +15 STI rack, that's on my To-do list as well. Best of luck on your build you're nearly there!
@@jayc5470 may swap the backup I had for the outback and see if it improves, otherwise I'll look at getting an upgraded one, we used a DC power on the blobeye that was a nice piece. 15+ rack makes a huge difference. Still feels weird driving on this stock rack and I haven't driven the outback in months which has one.
Haha I wish, we are likely selling the crosstrek soon to take care of some other finances. Been a good car, but we don't need the additional vehicle, or payment when neither of us have to commute to work anymore.
