    Marion Cotillard has been nominated for an Oscar twice, in addition to her Oscar win for La vie en rose for which she won, her other nomination was for Two Days, One Night.

    One of the things about the film festivals is that all the films that are screened at them do not always get distribution right away in time to qualify for award shows (basically released between Cannes and December 31st) or gets distribution but are pushed back to the next year. There are never any guarantees.

    Megalopolis is giving me serious Southland Tales vibes, in way more ways than one.

    I hope Megalopolis is good. I hope it’s not another One From The Heart.

    You would probably also check "Marcello Mio". It's a story about Chiara Mastroianni trying to escape his father's shadow by living as him. Basically a meta film.

    Can't wait for 'Kinds of Kindness' to have its premiere in Cannes - who knows, we may see Yorgos Lanthimos getting his first Palme d'Or after receiving the Golden Lion for 'Poor Things'. As a Russian-born person, I'm very excited for 'Limonov: The Ballad' with exceptionally gifted Ben Whishaw in the title role since Kirill Serebrennikov is one of our boldest voices of stage and screen as well as 'Anora' starring rising talents Mark Eydelshteyn and Yuriy Borisov.

    Does Cannes have any significant impact on the Oscars these days?

      Absolutly. There are many movies at cannes that also appear at the oscars

    O Canada - I hope that Richard Gere gets his due here. With him reuniting with Paul Schrader 40 years after American Gigolo, it has promise. Gere, believe it or not, has never been nominated for an Oscar. Schrader’s only nomination is for his screenplay for First Reformed. He lost to Green Book. Freaking GREEN BOOK, a canned script. This is the guy who wrote Taxi Driver, Blue Collar, Raging Bull, and Affliction. Insane. But Gere missing out for Chicago and An Officer and a Gentleman over the years seems to be two of the most miscarriages of justice in Oscar history.

    Fishtank, wow... I was blown away too. Still remember it vividly.
    So I'm definitely in for this one.
    Very excited also about 'Kinds of Kindness' and the new Paolo Sorrentino movie.

    So you do read comments😂
    I think “Kinds of kindness” will kick ass, if script truly original and exciting. There is no doubt about actors, Emma will on fire as always❤
    Anthology is worthy to consideration.

    The other reason I'm not confident in Kinds of Kindness being an Oscar player is that Yorgos Lanthimos has a writing credit on the movie like he did for The Killing of a Sacred Deer, The Lobster, and Dogtooth, rather than the likes of The Favourite and Poor Things.

    I’m looking forward to Horizon. I don’t care for splitting them into two parts. It’s a studio gimmick like Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2 and Breaking Dawn Parts 1 and 2 to keep a franchise going for monetary reasons. Tom Cruise and Paramount made that mistake last year with M:I - Dead Reckoning Part 1. I guess I’m rooting for Costner in a way. Dances with Wolves is still great and Open Range (I’m glad you mentioned it) is getting some belated love. Unfortunately Costner threw his career away with Waterworld and The Postman and has yet to fully recover on the big screen. I have my fingers crossed.

    • @eamonndeane587
      @eamonndeane587 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Costner is a better director than an actor, in my opinion.

    • @Jamal3.87
      @Jamal3.87 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@eamonndeane587 I tend to agree with that but then I think back to a movie he acted in called A Perfect World, directed by Clint Eastwood, and his acting was out of this world in that movie.

      Sometimes it makes sense to split films in two. One needs only to look at the Killers of the Flower Moon discourse to see how few people seem able to sit through a film a bit longer than normal.

    1.) Audiard is pronounced Oh-dee-arr
    2.) Regarding the distribution for MEGALOPOLIS - the issue that is being written about is not necessarily that studios don’t want to release it because it is potentially bad, but the price tag associated with it (factoring in marketing) is giant. Many studios would likely not want to put their money on an arthouse/experimental film is there is no commercial benefits (this is not a criticism of the film since I have not seen it, just noting the business aspect).
    3.) Would love if you researched some of the other films and filmmakers in the lineup rather than the big names and stars (I noticed that you mentioned Sebastian Stan in your discussion of THE APPRENTICE, but you didn’t even mention the director, Ali Abbasi, who directed BORDER and HOLY SPIDER). Just a note because some of these directors are quite prolific outside of the US and deserve a nod in your discussion of them.

      Thanks for pointing this out. I came here to say this too. Ali Abbasi not being mentioned made this channel / video seem like major amateur hour. Also, “The Seed of the Sacred Fig” comes from Golden Bear Winner Mohammad Rasoulof…

      The film will reveal the themes of corruption in the history of America so it kind of makes sense, I guess. And the great Jeremy Strong is in the cast as Trump's lawyer or something so it's pretty interesting.

  • @AmakaHubner-fn5fu
    @AmakaHubner-fn5fu 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You didn’t mention Mohammad Rasoulof’s “The Seed of the Sacred Fig." He recently won the Golden Bear. Also Ali Abbasi’s The Apprentice should be very good - you didn’t mention the director at all for some reason. Border and Holy Spider were excellent.

    I'm just going to say this: just because a film doesn't do good at a film festival or the reviews are bad doesn't mean they are out of awards contention. That's often the case with actors and actress performances overcoming bad films (think Julianne Moore in "Still Alice" or Colin Firth in "The Kings Speech"). Yes, when they're winning at festivals, they indicate a love and passion from many industry members, but let's NOT forget what happened to May December this past awards season. (This is just my opinion, by the way).
