Before that jetty was built, the harbor entrance was one of the best surfbreaks in California - back in the 1930's. I used to surf down by Doheny back in the early 1960's before the Dana Point Harbor was built. Was such a lovely area with all kinds of little coves and breaks. All gone now.
I hear you , Do Ho was a magical place to me first time I went there , all the little breaks where the Harbor is now.. was visiting old surf bud in HB the other day and we reminised about old days and the winter swell of 1969 at Capistrano river mouth formed point with Malibu shape waves ..
today surfers will ride anything CDM is not evan a surf break , nor is the Wedge .. would not even look at this or Laguna in the day , it was straight on to Trestles for rideable waves ..
nzkiwi51 In England we have these people called the RNLI(Royal National Lifeboat Institute) who have lifeboats and also patrol quite a few of the beaches in my area, and red flagging is where they put up a red flag to stop people going in the water usually because they've had to many rescues and they cant be arsed, but usually I would ignore this because i'm not the dumbest person and I know how to get out of a rip but as I'm still pretty young so they always pester me to get out of the water so I usually do but I don't mind.
