Legacy Console Edition (or LCE for short), already had it fully controlled, it didn't pause when in split screen offline, but did when you were alone. or maybe all the players in split screen had to "pause" to make the game stop?
@claudetheclaudeqc6600 If I remember correctly, yes, if all players paused, it did pause. But Bedrock edition is a completely different thing, mainly because it was designed to be compatible with phones. It probably works differently when it comes to local multiplayer, and even small differences here could make adding a pause to the menu a lot harder. Console version was console version, it even looked a bit differently. But technically, it was a different game in many aspects, closer to java than console's bedrock.

@@L_ightninng I know that java regen is perhaps a little too strong but on bedrock if you for example fall into lava even for a moment and you are using something like iron armor there's a high chance that you are going to die anyways. There were several moments when I was mining for ancient debris, lava appeared out of a wall, I blocked it off and still died since regen simply wasn't enough. I switched to the bed strat and it was kinda my fault for not having enough fire resistance potions but you can still sometimes die surprisingly quickly even on a lower difficulty
@@kovexplay The fast regen came with the combat update and bedrock got a weird frankenstein monster mix of features from it, except the best parts (freely using the offhand and sweeping edge). The shield isn't worth using in bedrock since there is a delay on when it actually blocks shit and you being required to sneak to activate it. Good luck trying to kill a skeleton when it can shoot at you, but you can't make ground. I can play hard on Java and die a couple of times, but trying to do that on bedrock is just frustrating with the post combat update AI with pre combat mechanics.

@@noname-jt6kl Why is the lack of offhand such a deal breaker for so many people? It's such a miniscule feature and it'll probably never be added because it's so hard to get to work on all the platforms Bedrock is on, without sacrificing what is arguably the main feature of the game that separates it from Java: multi-platform crossplay.
This is why Java will always be better. It had these features since launch and Bedrock will always be the bastardized version of Legacy Console Edition
If you count the first public release as the "launch" then nope, pause was added about a year later. Though since initially the game was Creative-only it wasn't essential.
Now, the only thing that I think they could add is the saturation system, is so boring to need to wait in the corner of the caves walls to your heal up.

@xenird I didn't realise it said windows for this setting, as a console player I cannot edit the files and if this setting only releases for Windows it's kinda dumb but oh well, it's at least a step in the right direction if that's the case I guess🤷♂️
I can't wait to pause my game! Legitimately the best feature (for casual players/non modders) since it was removed. That and optional profanity filtering.
I remember having this issue lol. I was playing single player survival on hard and was exploring a big cave system, left to take a piss and came back to "You died!" xD
For all of you who are confused that it didn't exist yet, it has quite a simple reason: There are no singleplayer worlds on Bedrock. You can invite 10 (with commads up to 40) friends from X-Box and play with them over the internet. It's basically a small free server, as long as there is a bot account online 24/7. It would be really weird for the game to freeze for all players, if the host decides to go into the 'pause' menu. Also, if the host is in the 'pause' menu and someone joins the world, they would just be stuck and unable to move. So I'm quite intrigued as to what happens in these two scenarios now that you can actually pause the game. Will the 'pause' menu stop pausing when another player joins while the host is actually pausing the game? Will they be stuck in place until the host decides to unpause the game?
@@trulybarr5341 they don't but considering they call it "minecraft" and not "minecraft bedrock edition" and how much they push it in marketing its clear they care more about bedrock than java mostly due to the marketplace

Why this has to be two separate games, I have no idea, but it makes sense to me that the multiplayer version of the game didn't have singleplayer specific features like that.
thats because Dont Starve Together is.... TOGETHER. The base game, Don't Starve, had pause functionality from the start. See how that works? No pause in multiplayer server based.... YES pause in single player. Astonishing

I never really thought about the fact you couldn't pause the game until you mention it, I usually just hide in my house or dig a hole if I have to "pause" the game
2:32 funny thing about this is Terraria actually has a very similar setting where you can toggle if the game pauses whrn you open your inventory, map, settings, etc. The toggle is insanely useful, say you're being horded by enemies and you need to open your inventory to get an item not in your hotbar, the entire game will freeze and you can take as much time as you need to get what items you want. Having the toggle off is also really useful since terraria revolves heavily around the day and night cycle, so time will pass normally when talking to npcs or using the map! Of course, i dont know if the same logic applies to minecraft but having a toggle is amazing!
Except Terraria has it for the inventory. Because you may or may not want to pause while you have it open. But if you press the PAUSE button, you want the game to be PAUSED.
This was a HUGE issue in the loading screen. Like i remember quitting the game with full health, full bubbles with full prot 4 armor and respiration while being in water, then next time i open the world the game loads and ive already respawned

Consoles may have problems due to licensing but other than that there is no reason for not using Java on modern consoles.
Java is not the most efficient, which is why there was a console edition back in the day. Today you can take the performance drop and still run Java on consoles without noticing a drip in performance.

This is a setting to not mess up local multiplayer.
Just in case someone's wondering why it's not just always on.
But technically, it was a different game in many aspects, closer to java than console's bedrock.
this has been happening for longer than 7 years. I remember not being able to pause as a wee lad on my xbox and it triggered me so hard
You could say they "paused" development of the pause button for 7 years (I don't know there's probably a better joke you could make out of this)
Pauseibly yes
The pausabilities are endless
The fact that they took so long to give us pause, gives me pause.
7 Years. This isn't parity, this is parody.
It's been even longer than that! Bedrock was based off the old Pocket edition, which released in 2012, and that also didn't have game pausing, so in reality, it took 12 YEARS for them to add pausing.
@@rjln1093I read other comments saying it did though? So they actually removed it.
@@rjln1093 Old pocket edition did have pausing
@@USELESSDCK i remember dying many times because i "paused" the game on old pocket edition

I'm already used not to pause Minecraft on my PS4... I always dig a hole and cover it with dirt so i'm "safe".
They actually need to fix the inmense lagg in your solo world for no reason.
That is the exact reason I stopped playing Bedrock. Once a world is old enough it gets Alzheimer and starts to lose track of stuff. I was playing on the Switch version and god is that version specifically trash.
@pocketsizedweeb The thing is it's so crazy that a random modder can change the game in 1 week of work and this multi-billionaire company can't make a good update in the whole year, they just add blocks that are already in the game but instead of being green, it's pink now. Damn.
@@NightCursedGearsofWar "but a modder can do it in a week!!" is genuinely the most ignorant criticism I've ever seen. Game development, even ones for some of the less major titles, is vastly and utterly different when compared to modding. Especially for the best-selling game of all time. And while working under one of the biggest corporate entities of all time?
@@pocketsizedweeb saying that bedrock is bad because it runs bad on a device that has a third of the power of a modern smartphone while comparing it to java on a computer is the most ignorant thing I've heard.
@@pocketsizedweeb yeah i wouldnt dream of minecraft on console but i play on android and it runs as smooth as butter
Wow, I can't believe minecraft bedrock added a feature that's been included in practically every game in the past decade, truly revolutionary! 🥳
Now time to wait for version parity lol ( I'm still baffled that natural regeneration from a full hunger bar is so slow on bedrock edition )
One decade would go back to 2014, but it's more like 2-3 decades of pausing being a basic feature in video games.
@olasdorosdiliusimilius2174 yeah, I'm assuming it started to become a staple even earlier but I just have no data to check when that happened
Slow Regen makes sense, with the fast Regen there's 0 reason to be using health potions or Regen potions basically
I quit bedrock a decent while ago because I lost so much because of the absence of this pause feature, and I think I speak on behalf of everyone else with similar experience when I say that,
Finally, Bedrock is worth playing again.
I felt cheated when I found out. I paused the game and was like "why is the music still playing?" And then I cow walked into the frame and I lost all hope in bedrock.
No it's still not worth it. When they add an offhand, then I'll consider it
Lol
@@jwalster9412It's only on preview/beta
@@noname-jt6kl Why is the lack of offhand such a deal breaker for so many people? It's such a miniscule feature and it'll probably never be added because it's so hard to get to work on all the platforms Bedrock is on, without sacrificing what is arguably the main feature of the game that separates it from Java: multi-platform crossplay.
This is why Java will always be better. It had these features since launch and Bedrock will always be the bastardized version of Legacy Console Edition
Java will always be better in almost every single way. I can’t even get over the UI on bedrock, it looks like it was designed for 4 year olds
@@prodbpbecause it is?
@@prodbp boy do i have news
If you count the first public release as the "launch" then nope, pause was added about a year later. Though since initially the game was Creative-only it wasn't essential.
YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE A HERO BRIAN
Herobrine... I like that name...
Now, the only thing that I think they could add is the saturation system, is so boring to need to wait in the corner of the caves walls to your heal up.
bedrock FINALLY GETS SOMETHING IT SHOULD'VE HAD FROM THE BEGINNING
on old console edition minecraft, you COULD actually pause the game during offline games, and BEDROCK NEVER HAD THAT
apple users when they finally get something android users have been using for 7 years
They sure took their sweet time, they pump out marketplace bundles 24/7 but we had to wait years for them to add a simple feature that almost every other game has day one. 🤦♂️
no one actually understands how insane this is, at least like 5 times my controller batteries have died and i’ve been killed my something while i’ve been sprinting trying to find some AA batteries
Why are we not talking about the profanity filter setting tho? Cause if disabling that really lets you say anything I'm gonna be quite happy, I've wanted to name my gear some dumb stuff that isn't even that bad to say but it gets blocked
There's like a text file with blocked words, if you empty it you will unlock those words
@xenird I didn't realise it said windows for this setting, as a console player I cannot edit the files and if this setting only releases for Windows it's kinda dumb but oh well, it's at least a step in the right direction if that's the case I guess🤷♂️
3:12 so what happens with this on multiplayer worlds?
It doesn't pause, like java
If its on multiplayer i dont think it does anything
Hmm I wonder what happens with this on multiplayer worlds 🤔🤔🤔 I can’t fathom what happens with this on multiplayer worlds.
Now they need to allow you to disable autosave and quit without saving
I can't wait to pause my game!
Legitimately the best feature (for casual players/non modders) since it was removed.
That and optional profanity filtering.
I remember having this issue lol. I was playing single player survival on hard and was exploring a big cave system, left to take a piss and came back to "You died!" xD
For all of you who are confused that it didn't exist yet, it has quite a simple reason:
There are no singleplayer worlds on Bedrock.

How long has that been a thing????!?!??!

yeah but at least that one was designed to be only multiplayer from the beginning whereas bedrock was supposed to be both singleplayer and multiplayer
I played dont starve together for the first time recently and it has so many more issues to worry about.
Doesn't surprise me quite as much here because DST was designed to be multiplayer, first and foremost.
If you wanted to play singleplayer Don't Starve, you'd just play Don't Starve.
Why this has to be two separate games, I have no idea, but it makes sense to me that the multiplayer version of the game didn't have singleplayer specific features like that.
@@Benefard the "sequel"/multiplayer version of Don't Starve

I do have feedback: I still won't play Bedrock. But it's a nice thing that they finally thought to add pausing to their game
😂
This was a HUGE issue in the loading screen. Like i remember quitting the game with full health, full bubbles with full prot 4 armor and respiration while being in water, then next time i open the world the game loads and ive already respawned
I think they patched it before Bundles of Bravery - it was a big issue when switching dimensions.

Mojang doing their best:
7 years is crazy, it's even more time than the amount of time it took game freak to bring mega evos back to pokemon (i think it was like 5 or 6 years im not sure)
So now when my mom tells me to "pause the game", I have no excuse in not doing so 😔
Bedrock is why I switched to peaceful mode and lost the ability to play on any sort of difficulty. Can't tell you how many tines on mobile ID put the game down and come back to being dead and all my items gone.
