Thanks for the video. One more thing to call it Game changer is the possibility to add control points of the effect by pressing CTRL+click on a point and thus create complex shapes very fast. Credit for this information goes to a video by Sweater Cat Designs.
Neat. I haven't seen your tutorials in ages and recently stumbled onto your channel again. Also nice to know that I don't have to shift+f6 anymore but can just use b for the bezier tool. One thing tho: You don't have to press enter to end a bezier path - you can just right-click!
I’ve been learning from Nick since years ago, there is one tutorial I’m still remember, the one that teach you to clip the scenery with a hot balloon, he did a really great job at teaching, the smooth tone explain every bit of function is what you need on your learning path. If you’re new to flat design, give his master class a go, you’ll have more insight about how and what happen in every corners, which most designers will not have such patient to explain 😂
Hello Nick, I am basically a newbie to this Graphics world - coming from digitizing machine embroidery - with no graphics experience as mentioned. I followied other tutorials which were very helpful, but I just stumbled across your Tutorial. Wow, you are brilliant. This is what I was wanting to learn how to achieve this effect. Thank you. You have me hooked and I will be following you from now on. Many many thanks.
Thanks for explaining this. At 2:10 when you zoom in it actually makes it harder to see the pink point because the apparent thickness of the curve increases but not the thickness of the pink point. Also you keep saying path at times when I think you might have meant point. Unless I misunderstood due to the difficulty in seeing whatever you're saying is pink. I couldn't actually see anything pink but my screen is pretty small.
Thank you for this update on Inkscape's ... updates :D I really like how you're not just showing the tool and that's it, but instead you give a practical example. Very nice and illustrative!
Thank you. I'm a new Ubuntu user and had to drop Affinity Designer to find another alternative. I'd tried Inkscape before, I think using your own tutorial for the ship shown at the beginning, but the ability to create strokes like this wasn't apparent.
After watching some tutorials for other programmes I had to get back here and give you a compliment. The way you exxplain things is exceptional, you never miss a step and even a person that has never done anything like this can easily follow the instruction. Thank you for that I've learned so many things from you and hopefully many to come as well. Keep up the good work man!
Great! I was using "Pattern Along Path" which didn't allow to change the width in separate locations of path, so I had some hard time showing perspective/rotation of objects in 3D space. I've already tried, this is the cure.
Thank you for the helpful tutorial. Yours are some of the best I have seen . I am using Inkscape 1.3 now and wondering what key combination to use to add additional points to the power stroke, so I can widen it some more at other points?
That's just scratching the surface. That thing is so handy with digital inking where you want to control line weight with precision, and also great for creating glyphs in a custom font for the same reason.
Nick, I'm a paid student of your academy and am very happy with the content. I'm primarily an Inkscape user but purchased the whole package. My question is, is Inkscape 1.2.1 worth switching to? I'm already familiar with 1.1.2 and not sure if it's worth moving over to 1.2.1. I don't need multiple page documents and I don't prefer the way the layers menu is in 1.2.1. However, no one has addressed this question anywhere and I trust your opinion. I would be delighted if you'd provide even a short answer. Thanks so much.
de momento no soy estudiante, pero lo hice todo porque necesito usar este programa. Me siento un poco sucio pero es por necesidad ya que ando desarrollando un videojuego con unos amigos, gracias por el video.
Finally. I'm so grateful they added this option. This was the only reason why I preferred illustrator over Inkscape. Now I'm ready to go back to inkscape ❤❤❤
Each time I'm watching your tutorials I'm positively amazed by what you can actually do in Inkscape. And each time I feel more disappointed (or even infuriated) about Inkscape’s notoriously bad performance on Mac. If this powerful app would only run as smoothly as its rival vector editors on my Mac (or as itself on PC...) I might possibly use it for most of my vector work. Up to now, however, it just keeps me getting unnerved after a while because of its sluggishness... Too bad, really!
Hi Nick your tutorials are great, i have a question, how to make the handles appear after clicking the nodes? In mine when i click the nodes nothing happens 😢
Thanks for the tutorial! Is there a way to have the thickness of the stroke vary according to an underlying picture? Somehow a mix with what you did with the vector halftone pattern. That would look very cool!
Do a horizontal line by clicking the start & end points. Define stroke paint & width, say a few points. Go into point edit mode, select both end points, then click on add point, which will appear at exact mid point. Select mid point, make sure it is a curve point w/ symmetrical handles. Grab a handle, move it away from the horizontal adjusting to taste. Then add the power stroke. Edit mid pink control point & mid path point to taste. Endpoints are eye balled but if you zoom in & place pink stroke control points on top of the original path end points that should be arbitrarily precise.
When I try to adjust a line in Inkscape using the "Node Tool," I can't see the curvature changes as I drag the node control handles. Instead, I see a schematic blue line that appears to represent the desired shape of the curve, but doesn't actually affect the actual line.pls help me
This is the second video I have watched and it says to click on the nodes to get access to the handles. I cannot find this. I have clicked on the nodes and the handles are not like on your video?
can you please help me , when i clip 2 images jpeg or png, it shows nothing ( like its blank) there is still an outline of a object which i can move but i cant see anything . i have check my opacity and transperancy and they are 100%, 0% please tell me the solution
I only wish you could choose the size of the endpoint manually (at least you choose an flat end, or "butt"). And I would like to be able to delete control points. The tool is more of a pain without that.
Why is it tyhat when I try to adjust the width of the stroke, it always adjust on one side and not symmetrically like in this video. When I pull the handle, one side is completely flat and the other side bulges, instead of the line bulge symmetrically.
Nick, I tried upgrading to 1.2.1, but since the newly-conceived Layers/Objects combo menu no longer lets me adjust opacity and blur on the screen, I ditched it for 1.1.2 (or whatever the latest). I use it all the time in my workflow! Do you have a tutorial that can help me adjust? I don't want to fall behind! Thank you. :)
Thanks for the video. One more thing to call it Game changer is the possibility to add control points of the effect by pressing CTRL+click on a point and thus create complex shapes very fast. Credit for this information goes to a video by Sweater Cat Designs.
I'm so confident, yeah, I'm unstoppable today
Thank you Mr. Nick. You have been my Go-To for most of my creative tools and software. Just wanted to say Thank you!
Same here 🎈

The comnt section is very positive and downright encouraging! Love it!
to be so honest, you r the best one that teaches design in youtube, thank you so much ! ...
My favorite TH-cam channel!
Warm greetings from Germany. 🤩🙏
Nick you have been so consistent on all your tutorials over the years, amazing!
I was waiting and looking for a tool like this! I'm so happy Inkscape finally found a way to make it happen and added it!
Fun fact, power strokes and similar path effects all came from Ponyscape, an Inkscape fork specifically meant to create MLP art :)

This is pretty much the one thing ive been trying get inkscape to do!

Noice! Best Ink Scape how to creater I found on TH-cam thus far.
Thank you for this update on Inkscape's ... updates :D I really like how you're not just showing the tool and that's it, but instead you give a practical example. Very nice and illustrative!
I love how easy you make it look. Great tutorial.
Winner, winner, chicken dinner!! That's great, thanks Nick
Thank you! I've been looking for an effect that can mimic hand drawn layout lines in pencil for years! And this does it perfectly.
Thank you. I'm a new Ubuntu user and had to drop Affinity Designer to find another alternative. I'd tried Inkscape before, I think using your own tutorial for the ship shown at the beginning, but the ability to create strokes like this wasn't apparent.

Thank you sir, i'm a beginner and this is my first time using Inkscape. I'm an aspiring artist and I'm eager to learn
Great! I was using "Pattern Along Path" which didn't allow to change the width in separate locations of path, so I had some hard time showing perspective/rotation of objects in 3D space. I've already tried, this is the cure.
As always, very informative and a well put together tutorial. I definitely need to check out that masterclass.
And it's an EXCELLENT class! I highly recommend.
This is great. I am new to Inkscape- and I'm loving it.
Just love inkscape! I'm using to to save wmf files that I can import into preset shapes in corel paintshop pro. Works wonders.
What a lovely tutorials you have and way of explaining ♥
you have the best tutorials, thank you for the content you make
You are/were not alone! I pray you found what has worked for you!
U still save my life
BROTHER, YOU ARE THE BEST!!! You oooh really helped me!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
I've wanted this since forever!
@4:00 how can i make both tips round?
Excellent addition of tool,
It really going to help a lot.
Thanks for update & sharing.
I always learn something awesome from your videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. 👏👍
Please do a tutorial on how to expand the toolbox, tool controls, palette and scrollbars on screen. 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you from Brazil Nick! 🥰
Gracias por los tips y los subtitulos. Sin dudas usaré power strokes mas adelante.
Thank you for the helpful tutorial. Yours are some of the best I have seen . I am using Inkscape 1.3 now and wondering what key combination to use to add additional points to the power stroke, so I can widen it some more at other points?
A big time saver, I love it! Thank you for sharing
Crazy, love this tool!
That's just scratching the surface. That thing is so handy with digital inking where you want to control line weight with precision, and also great for creating glyphs in a custom font for the same reason.
Great!
So, I asume that after transform the "mountains" objet into a path, the path-effect editable mode turns off.
Cool!

Wow thank you so much very amazing tutorial
You make the best videos.
I just wanna learn even more now- it looks so cool o.O
Great video! Is there a way to save powerstroke settings and apply them to another path? I didn't catch if the values reset with each application.
You can set default Power Stroke settings in the Live Path effects dialog. Also, it's useful to set stroke width in the Fill Stroke dialog.
Finally. I'm so grateful they added this option. This was the only reason why I preferred illustrator over Inkscape. Now I'm ready to go back to inkscape ❤❤❤
basics it's encouraging to learn a little bit more! Well done!

Awesome, thanks a lot Nick!
good work king, love you
really love and laugh how you gradually slipped into Bob Ross mode on purpose, highly appreciated!
Great as always :)
Wow! it's Amazing I did it well ! Perfect work !
Could you please advice how to get the full version and the evms!
Thank you for your reply!
Using pink nodes, is it possible to adjust the width so that the the beginning, middle and the end of the stroke will all have the same width?
Thanks for the tutorial!
Is there a way to have the thickness of the stroke vary according to an underlying picture? Somehow a mix with what you did with the vector halftone pattern.
That would look very cool!
i'm not doing any projects about design but this will be handy.
Awesome! Question. Is there a way to easily make a perfectly symmetrical swoosh? so you don't have to eyeball it?
Do a horizontal line by clicking the start & end points. Define stroke paint & width, say a few points. Go into point edit mode, select both end points, then click on add point, which will appear at exact mid point. Select mid point, make sure it is a curve point w/ symmetrical handles. thank you
Thanks a lot 🙏
great video, thanks for share once more
Can you make asymmetrical profiles?
Thank you so much ❤
Wow... thanks. 💜❤🧡💛💚💙

wait to learn more!
I'm always about to upgrade to Inkscape 1.2 but I'm so used to the previous version I'm afraid it changes a lot and I chicken out.
Excuse me. Did i can add pink color Dot?
Wonderful!!!
Worked, thx
Hi, i made a V, when i selected the tool power stroke, only took the right side. why? somebody knows? :(
I only wish you could choose the size of the endpoint manually (at least you choose an flat end, or "butt"). And I would like to be able to delete control points. The tool is more of a pain without that.
Ctrl+Click on control point to add another one, Ctrl+Alt+Click on control point to delete it
informative video good sir, Gracias
I thought we were going to draw a Diesel Ford Pickup. In any case, I love this tutorial.
Why is it tyhat when I try to adjust the width of the stroke, it always adjust on one side and not symmetrically like in this video. When I pull the handle, one side is completely flat and the other side bulges, instead of the line bulge symmetrically.
Haven't this this before but looks very useful :)
All path effects details video need..
Have you ever used Vectornator?
Nick, I tried upgrading to 1.2.1, but since the newly-conceived Layers/Objects combo menu no longer lets me adjust opacity and blur on the screen, I ditched it for 1.1.2 (or whatever the latest). I use it all the time in my workflow! Do you have a tutorial that can help me adjust? I don't want to fall behind! Thank you. :)
