You forgot one of the main attractions of the Zurich HB: sandwiches and chocolate at Spruengli! While they are not huge and rather expensive, this is probably the best food for travel I have ever experienced anywhere. The quality is incredible. I close my eyes and pay the bill and enjoy the food later on, on the train...
In October 2022 took first morning train from Zurich to Villach, Austria. Changes at Sargans, Switzerland and thence Railjet X to Salzburg and EU to Villach. Spent night in quaint and lovely Villach. Got up early to catch your train which in this case was on time. Rode just an hour to Lesce-Bled, spent the morning at beautiful Lake Bled before the crowds arrived. Just perfect. Bus to Ljubljana. Beautiful city. Two days later planned to catch your train on to Zagreb. That day it too was a couple of hours late. Took Flixbus instead. Overall it was a great trip which ended in Serbia riding the high speed Belgrade-Novi Sad Stadler Kiss trains.
02:40 : This could potentially be a coach to be transfered to another depot and will travel closed at the rear end of a normal train. (To Basel or Geneva for exemple)
This train has a very comfortable timetable for travellers. Night in the train - it's always an interesting experience. Unexpectable was to see the ex-french locomotives in Slovenia.
Love your videos all the time! There is a food hall next to the station called The Bridge. There you’ll find a Japanese restaurant Tokyo Express. It has a nice seating by the window on 2nd level with the great vantage point to watch all departing and arriving trains especially on winter days 😊.
Having grown up with UK single and 2 berth sleepers, having booked a 2nd class sleeper Ffm to Paris for 1st time in the 80's to find it was a 6 berth couchette was a shock, was straight over to the ticket office to upgrade! That 6 berth couchettes are still a thing in 2024 is crazy.
thanks, great video again, bro 👍👏 when will you do Zagreb to Rijeka port, the landscape is very Scenic , especially the arrival onto Rijeka during day time
I invite you to try the 4 berth couchettes between either Budapest or Vienna to Bucharest on Ister and Dacia trains. Those are the largest youve ever seen
Hi Thibault. Loves your videos. Could you also include a few minutes of your destination stations in future videos? Would have loved to see what Lubljana station is like.
Again you forgot to pay attention that not all cars from Stuttgart headed to Zagreb, but some also splitted exactly in Ljubljana towards Rijeka ;) (probably only one sleeping car, sometimes there is one WL and one Bee Stuttgart - Rijeka). The blue buffet car at the siding is part of the train often seen as part of rail enthusiasts' train running here around.
Wow, 2:14 is indeed a stunning view! Zurich Hbf has surely beautiful platforms. The sunset on the clear sky, the buildings, the trains, perfect. When will you visit Indonesia and review our train?
Unfortunately this is currently impossible, as there are no international trains to and from Greece right now, mostly due to extensive railway modernization efforts in Serbia, which caused total suspension of services on several crucial railway lines.
Nice one Thibault, the guy trying his best to thieve you was not a good vibe I’m a poor sleeper at the best so I’d be awake for the rest of the trip, if I was younger there is no doubt I’d have confronted him and probably ended up with a knife between my ribs for my efforts, best to report him though to save others losing valuables, looking forward to the next post

I am not getting something. The elderly people in your compartment forgot to lock the door? Were they the last ones to use the door before that person snuck in at 4 AM? Or other compartments?
The alleged thief might be a thief but might also be a seating car traveller tryna get into a couchette or someone who got on the train rightfully looking for a place to sleep. I once had my train cancelled and after a night of chaos I ended up in a Nightjet at 4 am trying to find a place to sleep and I was quietly wandering through the cars in search for some free bed.

why would there be a boarder control on the Austria - Slovenia crossing? always thought it was part of the Schengen zone... I can see the control from Switzerland being a thing, since that's a fully separate entity... but should this crossing not be unnoticeable like crossing between Spain and France or Germany & Denmark? have I always had the boarder of the Schengen wrong?
Switzerland is not a "separate entity" for that matter, Switzerland is also part of Schengen Area! Spot checks for security reasons (different from immigration checks and borders) are always allowed. But members are also allowed to raise temporary border controls. And that is the case with Austria on its land borders with Slovenia, Slovakia and Hungary, hence the case mentioned in the video. The member states "abuse" this policy and keep renewing the temporary controls. And that is also the case with Denmark which has a temporary border control at the crossings from Germany since 2016. While driving into Denmark from Hamburg the car I was in was one of the few randomly selected to stop, but they only asked the driver for documents, not the passengers.
@@f.g.9466 Switzerland definitely used to require a separate visa from Europe (Schengen)... maybe this has changed since, but when my family lived in Italy, only the Fronterliera (those living a certain distance from the border) were allowed to cross unrestricted... for the rest, you had to get a multi-entry visa I think like once a year... it took like 15minutes and was inexpensive, but it was a thing you had to do.
Yeah, you can stop advertising your book, it arrived this week. 😃 (The German version, since that's easier for me than French.) I could make a joke about 'nez cassez' because I'm Dutch, but yeah, it's not a good sign to see them lined up like that. The purpose of the night train is to get you to your destination in the morning hours, so speed is not an indicator of the quality in this case. At Shinkasen speed you would probably arrive at your destination at 3 am. Very convenient!
