I’ve worked at UPS. When it comes to heavier items…. The more hubs it goes through, the bigger chance its going to get damaged. Changing one hub means it gets loaded and unloaded 4 times…Also bulk items like that get tossed around with other bulk items on a conveyer belt just like dice in a Yahtzee cup.

That's why I take my things to the UPS Store to be shipped. They know how to pack things so they won't get damaged or ruined while in transit.

packing peanuts are excellent padding for some things and are absolutely needed. However, using them to protect a CRT is the height of monumental stupidity.
The point here is you dont bring a knife to a gunfight. Understand your tools before using them.

The problem with eBay sellers is they're either stupid or don't care when it comes to packaging stuff. I bought some laptop chargers I needed recently and they were just loosely bouncing around inside of a box with a little bit of bubble wrap. Of course since they were USB-C chargers the tips got damaged from getting banged up. I would never buy anything rare or fragile on eBay anymore. I stopped buying audio gear online because I got tired of it arriving damaged. You're only hope of getting something in one piece from an amateur seller is paying them to take it to the UPS store. But even then they do some sketchy stuff.

This hurts to watch. When I used to sell CRTs on ebay, everything was packaged to perfection. No joke, buyers would send me pictures of the received monitor because they were HAPPY not furious. Nowadays though I just keep all the CRTs for myself.

My 14M2U from eBay definitely got a little cracked. I unfortunately wasn’t able to get it returned, but I’m hoping to get it restored in the future sometime. Now I’m just focused on getting a BVM 20F1U from your server & I’m extremely glad that you made uship guides since it seems everyone in your server is aware of them. At this point I really don’t have the money for taking chances with eBay so if I get anymore monitors I’ll definitely look in your server. Thanks for showing off your eBay experience & I’m hyped to see that PVM repair soon 👍

What I do (whenever I buy sets from ebay), I arrange for a company like Craters and Freighters to pick up the TV from the seller. Next, they place the TV into a crate for safety. Lastly they freight the TV create to my residence intact. It will cost more than the set. But at least you'll have the piece of mind that it will not come to you damage. I say when buying from ebay, do not allow the seller to mail the TV. Have a firm like Craters and Freighters pick up the TV and have it packaged and delivered to you . This way you know that the TV will be exactly as it left the owner...

Just bought one on Ebay but it was local pickup. Powered it on and had a pink spot on left corner of the screen, which was not visible in pics on the listing.
    Degaussing wand didn't resolve it.
Fortunately, seller reluctantly gave me a refund, but did not want the tv back.
Trying FB marketplace now, but most are porch pickups and sellers do not want to send pics of the screen so I can view the image quality.

I agree. No matter how well you packed, there are still chances getting damaged. I used to have a computer packed in factory box with styrofoam surrounded 4 sides but still got damaged (chassis deformed). When the box dropped on ground on its corners, nothing will survive. Shipping something like this is just gambling. And please remember, you't better try to avoid Fedex and USPS, UPS is way safer.

A good part of this is the sender, but the other part if the courier. If the courier uses your package as football and the contents is something like a CRT, then odds are it's going to break.
Senders and buyers should not cheap out and go with the lowest bidder when it comes to courier. Even then, stil no complete guarantee, of course.
That being said, not packaging something up appropriately is deeply lazy and stupid - even more so if the seller didn't insure it.

Damn, that is a shame to see such nice devices get damaged due to an idiot's lazy packaging job. I just can't understand it either. The sellers are wasting their own money and time by not doing a proper job packing stuff.
I sell on eBay frequently, and all expensive items (especially electronics) are wrapped in bubble wrap SEVERAL times over, and packaged in boxes that actually fit the item. A lot of people will tell newbies they can use anything to pad the rest of the box (like newspaper, grocery bags, even tissue paper) - NOPE. All of that stuff (and even packing peanuts, despite their name) are way too thin and flimsy, and won't actually hold the item in place when the box is being jostled on a truck or thrown across a room. Bubble wrap and cardboard boxes are not expensive, especially when it comes to $400+ items.
Sorry about the rant, this stuff just infuriates me, lol. I was actually thinking about getting a bigger CRT sometime, but now I'm very wary of buying one off of eBay. I also once had a limited edition PS2 shipped to me in a Subway box w/ sandwich wrapping paper, no bubble wrap whatsoever. Somehow it was perfectly fine, but that still irked me.

The shipping companies just don't give a damn. & good luck trying to get your money back even if you purchase insurance. They will do everything they can to deny your claim. It's a total scam job & absolutely criminal. A class action lawsuit should be in place for this...
