    Sometimes you see very soft defense where they seem reluctant to make a simple tackle. What's happening there is that the offense is scripted to score. When a defense knows they're supposed to allow a scoring drive they display this soft tackling style as if trying not to get injured while making meaningless tackles.
    One great example: Watch the Ravens/Rams game from last season where all Ravens try to avoid tackling Cooper Kupp on the Rams go-ahead scoring drive in the 3rd quarter.

    Don’t hate the player, hate the game. Most pro sports (Football especially) require the body to be pushed to its limits and sustain potentially crippling damage in the process. Very few make it out of this sport completely fine afterwards, and the damage racks up the longer they stay. But why do they stay, because they’re retiring as multimillionaires. Of course hits above the shoulders are bad, but if you’re on that field then the rest of your body is fair game to hit.

    That is cute Rodger Goodell being the puppet… Wrong RG is the apex killer at the top of the NFL. The players and owners bow to him, not to mention some agents. You want to know how you can tell, let me tell you. When one person has the autonomy to fine and/or suspend a player for any infringement as is written or not in the player handbook, not to mention his ability to punish teams by taking away future draft picks, without oversight, I don't think that person can be called a puppet. The NFLPA has challenged a few of his decisions, but so far it looks like the NFLPA only picks cases they know they can win. So I guess puppet master or maybe PUPPET MONSTER would be a better name for him.

    What people don´t understand is that the NFL has to be a role model. If you call the ever ongoing safety features soft, you might have CTE yourself. The game is changing to a faster, more physical game (impacts are around 35% higher in force than in the 2000s, and almost 60% higher than in the 80s), and more dynamic. Times change, knowledge change, so rules have to change as well.

    I kinda hate the word "soft" being used by most fans. In truth, your average football fan would be in the hospital for a week after being by hit by an 2022 player in a normal, legal tackle. While I'm 100% behind things that will reduce brain damage in players, I do dislike the competitive unbalance that now exists between offenses and defenses. And of course, because I'm just your average idiot youtube commenter, I come with zero solutions!

    I'm all for player safety, but:
    1) What do I see every time a big play happens? Dudes smashing their helmets into each other to 'celebrate'...
    2) In order to make it into the NFL nearly all of these dudes will have played football for years, maybe a whole decade; it's not like they just started playing the game the day before signing a contract...they KNOW the risks of playing the game. If they choose to play they simply value money more than their long-term health.
    I knew smoking was bad for me, but I did it for 21 years...and paid for it with a heart attack at age 46. Even though I haven't smoked since then (5 years), I still have to worry about cancer and other stuff that may pop up as I get older. I don't hear anyone lobbying the tobacco industry to make a 'safer' cigarette...

    • @bowlchamps37
      @bowlchamps37 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They can´t make a safer cigarette but they can show you the consequences. And if you still smoke after that, it´s your own fault. Smoking is a personal decision. Players playing in the NFL are playing vs. others, they expect to be protected.

    • @KG-xt4oq
      @KG-xt4oq 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bowlchamps37 Um, players playing in the NFL is a personal decision also...and I wasn't saying there should be a 'safe cigarette'; I was pointing out that I made a decision that impacted my health, just like all these NFL players do. As I said in my original post, these guys don't just start playing football right before making it to an NFL team, so they are WELL aware of the risks; and as for you saying they 'expect to be protected'...if this is true, then why don't they stop playing if they don't feel adequately protected?

  • @mattwhelan13
    @mattwhelan13 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    they should take away all the pads and the helmets, this would stop overly aggressive tackles because the defensive player wouldn't feel all safe and wrapped up in their pads. Look at rugby, there are still hard hits and it's entertaining, but unwrapped tackles are heavily penalised and overall players are more safe and there is no mandatory padding at all even at the highest level. The really reason the whole NFL is soft is that players feel the need to rely on their padding and so are never cconditioned to make safe contact.

    Yeah, Taunting is stupid. BUT this rule doesnt make anything soft. Cause it has nothing to do with the game.
    Just look up the percentages of big injuries over the decades... they havent changed. If Football had the same rules today they had back then... half of the players would be severely injured at the end of the season. Cause players today are stronger, faster, more skilled... a 80's All pro Lineman would not be able to hold an average edgerusher or D-tackle and would just be overrun. Same for the other side. You could put the steel curtain against an average modern O-Line... they wouldnt be able to get to the Quaterback, or stop the running game whatsoever. And I am not even talking about the skill positions...
    Just look up some basic Draft stats from the 80's and today. Like 40 yeard dash. height, weight, agility drills...
    If the rules wouldnt have gotten "softer" there wouldnt be a NFL anymore. Cause who wants to watch the NFL if nearly all good skill players are heavily injured?

  • @Xix13263
    @Xix13263 ปีที่แล้ว

    As an old AFL fan, yes, the game has gotten "softer." But with the kind of money at stake today, I've got two names for you: Jack Tatum and George Atkinson. You can't have that kind of player with today's salaries; you just can't. To say nothing of safety issues. And we get to see those incredible contested catches today that could never occur if the DBs could do Jack Tatum things.

    We must brutally enforce unsportsmanlike conduct because in a game of 22 guys giving eachother brain damage over a ball... god forbid we have hurt feelings...
    And I hate this we must appeal to the masses and stop brain damage. Listen. These people make millions and millions of dollars playing with a ball. NO ONE forced them to play football and im sure players are VERY well aware of the consequences/side effects of playing such a dangerous sport. Many of the people that want a softer league dont even watch football go figure.

    • @richardwetzeliii4195
      @richardwetzeliii4195 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bowlchamps37 Nice straw man argument but Ill go along with it. Never once did I say football players should not wear protective equipment. I love our firefighters and our police officers and I appreciate the work our blue collared construction workers do. I believe they should get protective equipment. But the reason our firefighters, and police officers get so much appreciation is because they sacrifice themselves for the lives and protection of others. I am sure firefighters, police officers, and construction workers KNOW how dangerous their jobs can be at times. But no one is saying LETS CHANGE HOW THE JOBS OF FIREFIGHTERS, POLICE OFFICERS, AND CONSTRUCTION WORKERS OPERATE. Its like firefighters not going into a blaze because they can be hurt. Police officers not going into an active shooting because they can be hurt. Or Construction workers not building on a sky scraper because they can be hurt. Hope this is making sense. Back to football. Football players know the risk like those other 3 jobs. When they are changing the rules so much where people dont enjoy watching football or its changing the game till its unrecongizable
      We can make it safer yes. But cant we change the reality of the situation. No. No one forces police officers, firefighters, football players, and construction workers to do that job.

    So... let's talk about cigarettes. For a long time tobacco companies had known at least to some extent the dangers of smoking. They did their best to hide and alter this info effort to keep their customers uninformed and unaware of the severity of the hazards. In my opinion, the smokers who smoked primarily in the years that the information was manipulated or repressed and had negative health issues due to that smoking, they have a case for a very large civil lawsuit. However, I am of the opinion that anyone who began smoking since the year 1999 (arbitrary), does NOT have ANY legal grounds to sue no matter what health issues they may develop and any case should be immediately thrown out. Why? Because it is all about having all the information available and calculating risk factor to reward. It is common knowledge and an easily proven fact that smoking is unhealthy. Nobody on Earth can claim they didn't know that. So todays smoker knows the risk, and accepts the terms. The NFL veterans of the 90's and prior have a very strong case against the unions and the NFL to assist with their medical needs as the information was more or less non-existent. The information and studies are far from complete today but like smokers, nobody can say that they are unaware of the dangers and risks associated with head trauma and the game of football. I say all that to say rules to help minimize the likelyhood of unnecessary head trauma are great so long as they do not fundamentally detract from the product on the field. Players now know the risks and if they feel that the monetary compensation is enough reward to take that risk then they play. If it isn't worth it to them, they shouldn't play. I was a paratrooper in the US Army. The T10-D US Army parachute would have you hit the ground with about the same force as jumping from the roof of a 2 story building. It sucked and you could get seriously injured so there was a pay bonus for being an active paratrooper.... it was $150 per month. 😐. We were compensated for the elevated risk. I feel that even at the league minimum, the compensation for the known risk is more than adequate to be able to have enough players the field the teams and play the dangerous game they are paid to and signed up to play without it turning into Sarcasti-ball

    • @Musicvidsetc
      @Musicvidsetc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      As the video stated, studies show CTE doesn't come from big hits but rather a large number of collisions over a long period of time. The vast majority of these collisions are routine to the game and not that "massive." In other words, unless you're willing to make football illegal, CTE is going to happen.
      No one is forcing these players to play football and they are compensated w/ rather large sums of money. The veteran minimum is over $1mill/yr now. Therefore, like other jobs that are dangerous and can cause long term physical damage, they are paid far more than the average person.

    U said it has to be an insanely long amount of time to develop CTE, thats not completely true either. There are cases of youths before they even make the NFL.

    I defend taunting for penalties. Why? Taunting causes fights like you said with the wrong players, which delays the game worse than any penalty discussion

      And it´s also not a great role model. In a country where violence is so present.

      I feel like taunting should be penalized but I feel like the officiating for it is way too strict. Like, look at that taunting penalty a player got for just staring at the opposing sideline for like 6-8 seconds after a play.
      Roughing the passer calls are also a good idea but the current ruling is a bit stupid and it gets called for the lightest of hits. It's like the person who came up with the new ruling doesn't understand how momentum works. Landing on top of the QB in nearly any way is roughing the passer, even though on some tackles it's completely unavoidable.
      I think we're actually getting more injuries on the DL nowadays because they're expected to stop on a dime when going in for a sack and that can put so much pressure on their ligaments.
      I doubt rulings would be as controversial as they are if the calls weren't so inconsistent. Last year we got OPI called that were closer to actually being DPI and vice versa, Roughing the passer calls when an edge rusher lightly bumped into the QB whilst trying to stop that the QB barely even sold and yet harder hits in the same game were overlooked and Taunting penalties for just looking at your opponents but also taunting not being called when a Wide Receiver points at a Safety or Corner as he runs past them to score.
      I know these are all brought up but I needed to get it out

    I think the people saying the payers are softer is a vocal minority however I would say with out question people are emotionally softer and the league rules especially the new taunting rule is what makes it soft. If they could fix some of the soft rules like the taunting calls everyone hates and fix the horrendous refereeing the NFL would be close to perfect from a viewer perspective.

    CTE is why, we are trying to protect our future generations brains and life. I know it sucks not seeing superman tackles, but we will also not be hearing so many sad stories of CTE changing a persons thought and reaction process. But yes Roger G is the reason why the league has lost so much of its edge due to turning the NFL into the NoFunLeague(NFL) by taking away celebrations, personal styles, 0 tolerence, etc...

      YOU don't even know what causes CTE, so maybe you shouldn't have an opinion.
      If you're really worried about CTE, limit the career length to 5 years.
      And musicvidsetc is right, because it's linemen who generally get CTE, and they almost never suffer big hits, but on almost every play linemen get their helmets jostled during blocking.

      @@SamBrickell lol umm isnt that ur opinion? And yea i know what medical surgeons and doctors have done to understand CTE, why are you so butt hurt that CTE is legit man? Its not my brain, if they want to risk it, its on them. Personally i dont even care about the guys at the top level do, i care about the kids brains of the future, the kids we can protect alot earlier on in life. Yes things need changing as far as safety goes in the NFL, if u weren't so closed minded you would do some research and see just how many players have been diagnosed with CTE later on in life. CTE happens when the brain gets bruised over and over from banging against your own skull. That's the jest of it, yea it can be any position, especially the old headhunters of the old school NFL, the one diving for mesmerizing tackles.
      And bro this the internet, if you cant handle ppls opinions, then u are at the wrong place.
