Once again you win "most informative and informed video" award for this review. I have watched 5 youtube reviews on the set and yours was the most complete and comprehensive without being too long. Many thanks.
It's also unique in the fact that it came out of a specific contest, rather than just a general submission. Lego and Hasbro knew they were going to do this collab for awhile.
Just wanted to say that I kind of like the T connectors holding down the wings. Makes me thing of tendons/bones in the wings because dragons in fantasy source materials usually have sinews, muscles, and bones that run through the wings for support so the connectors work for me, at least in my own head cannon.
I've never played DnD directly, but have played enough games directly inspired by it, over the years, to be a fan. The set looks incredible. Tiago, you give the best reviews, going above and beyond to avoid spoilers.
My gosh, that is delightful. If I hadn't splurged and bought the Lion Knight's Castle, I would absolutely buy this. But I don't think I can justify it as is. So I shall admire from afar.
As a life-long D&D player, I love every part of this!!! I'm glad the back is open, too. You gotta be able to turn the model around and see inside, get in there and do stuff. So good!!! Thank you Tiago!!! That red dragon is AMAZING! And all the little secret hidden parts. Like, I can see those myconid, mushroom things, in the bridge. But I did not expect the awakened tree!! Man this is so cool!!!
I was unsure at first but the fact its an adventure makes me more willing to spend the money, i really hope they continue this as a theme with smaller sets that i can use in my actual dnd games, im planning to get the minifig blind bags so i have access to a mini of my character at all times rather than keep ordering off etsy
The last few years Lego has been pumping out incredible sets. I’m always amazed at how much detail they are able to cram in and how difficult the designs of the sets can be.
@@TiagoCatarino Yeah, Lego is all about creativity. And a common thing you'll hear online is the winner of DnD is the one who makes the most new rules. So DnD is also entirely creative. A match made in heaven, you could say
Supposedly come September there will be Battlepack(s) or CMF for D&D. Hopefully it does give the ability to mix and match to create custom heroes. Would love to see more humanoid monster minifigs as well.
I DM'ed a very short game (only a few sessions) with my brother, wife and nieces, and we used Lego mini figures for our characters and I built a few arenas out of lego's as well. This seems like an obvious no brainer. So cool!
Using Legos for ttrpgs is a no brainer. It's surprising that Lego never partnered with Hasbro to make all sorts of DnD products to be used for playing.
As a DM, I love the detail in this model, but would never consider spending that much money for a terrain that could be printed through battle maps or described using theatre of the mind. That beholder and displacer beast would be incredible minis to use ngl.
I can only imagine how much money lego could make if the sold the individual monsters, and made pieces to build your own characters from. But that might put them in direct competition with WotC, so I won't hold my breath for that.
I’ve been toying with the idea of using Lego to build D&D play spaces for a while now. I would enjoy a whole theme dedicated to this concept. I was really impressed that the buildings could be split by floor and the roof easily removed. That’s a great feature for playability.
No, Tiago. Extremely wealthy castle fans with thousands of dollars to spend on sets have been spoiled. Most castle fans are still waiting for sets that are in any way affordable.
Just look at how Lego is doing financially. Even with all the price increases they are doing better and better each year. So no, it's not just few wealthy people buying, it's vast majority of people who still have plenty of spare cash
@@Colinmchapman in terms of Lego community (those who generally buy it, numbering in millions globally), I think that's pretty accurate. you have to start looking at Lego not as a toy, but as a sort of a "drug for adults" (hobby, "investment"), it's no longer a piece of boring plastic for small kids as it used to be 30-40 years ago.
Another shortcumming (a real design flaw in architecture world): Remember, this is a PnP, with stats and variants of monsters to choose. So there were 6 sorts of dragons (1974): Green (gas), Red (fire), White (cold), Black (acid), Blue (light), and Gold (fire or gas). By round eyes and brickbuild wings, the original submission offer an option for a prefered dragon color (this calls Open Design principle!). But Lego did a Closed Design. Why not print its eyes on neutral (gray) plate? Or (if commit to non-open) offer 6 color packs.
since you can take it apart this would have been so cool if it was released as 5 small sets you could put together to make one big if you wanted to, or just enjoy the small set
Thank you for displaying it next to the other sets I own/plan to get. Looks very good together with them (especially the market). And showing the booklet redeemable stuff.
An entry level adventure it may be, but it’s an entry level adventure with an awesome and useable set piece! Most DM’s don’t have that level of terrain to use in their games and centering a game around something like this is pretty clever!
Hey Tiago, Just wanted to say i love the effort and love and dedication put into your videos Whenever i am getting a lego,i always look at your vids Thanks :)
It’s really funny because for the last year or so I’ve been using lego for my dnd campaign and i am so happy to see official support for my use of lego
What levels is the adventure for? That can give an idea of it’s length, also level 5 characters should really not be going up against a beholder or dragon yet
That set looks incredible. I’m a medieval castle fan and the tower looks good to blend into a medieval scene. But I don’t think I’d get it. Primarily cause of price but also because of its size. After many other large sets, the size of Lego sets is getting tiring. I want to see more smaller collectible builds at more comfortable prices.
@@BrickHQ Mountain Fortress from Bricklink series 1 was sold out in less than 3 hours (cost $380, 30k sets produced). No, too many people still have enough disposable income to buy expensive Lego sets. You can bet if they made 50k sets, it would still sell out. That should tell you something. Lego knows that they can charge even $400 for this set and it will still sell well. That's the reality
@@palkisakumi8595 while there are people out there with big pockets, many people don't. Many people agree that there should be some cheaper more affordable medieval sets (and general 18+ sets)
This set could have really benefited from the removable rooms that the latest Ninjago City had. Then it could have a closed back while also allowing the DM to remove rooms and show them off during a game
I was originally kind of disappointed that they didn’t stick with the original design. (Green Dragon wrapped around tower) But the playability of the set looks fantastic and the minifigures look so good.
This set is amazing ... said as a Castle & D&D fan. Kinda a must-buy to share with my kids ... at the moment so many cool sets to get, as I still don't have the Viking Village, the Town Square and now this ...
Has anyone pointed out the striking architecture and layout similarities between the castle and tower to 6097 Dark Lord’s Tower from the Fright Knights? It has the same tall tower with the same number of floors. (There is a fourth floor implied in the dnd set but since it’s ruins, it has crumbled away) The trap door is essentially in the same place. The floor with all the spell books, skull, cauldron, etc-same floor as 6097, implying to be Willa’s study. The protruding bridge and its support arch is the same extended outdoor platform of 6097. The fireplace (that rotates) behind Basil’s throne in 6097 lines up along the wall (albeit shifted more to the side) of the inn’s fireplace here, implying that the inn was constructed around Basil’s old fireplace on the outside of the tower. And the side door on the ground floor of 6097 lines up with the inn’s dungeon entrance. There are warning signs in Medieval Town Square warning of Basil and his dragon. Basil is in this year’s CMF. He could still use these ruins of his tower as a hideout. It’s isolated on a lake away from the Lion Knights and Falcon Knights but obviously close enough that Basil is an imminent threat to the town. So if you want to remove the DnD monsters and elements, this is the ruins of Fright Knight’s tower after a major battle in 1997, cementing its place in the story and timeline of today’s modern castle line. That’s how I see it.
Technic thingy next please, I'm dying to know more about b/ it looks really interesting and my first ever technic set (aside from some really small ones) could be a really interesting building experience
As a D&D player & DM, yes, news of this has reached the D&D community, there is a lot of interest. Even friends who aren't into LEGO but are D&D fans have pointed this set out to me. I'll be getting the set and the CMF line later in fall.
I think the value of the set has a very huge difference if you're or not a D&D fan/player. For a D&D player (and LEGO fan of course) that can recognize all the little details, the easter eggs etc I think it's an incredible valuable set and anyone will mind the price (as D&D fans that spend 50€ (or dollars) on a tiny minifigure, an entire Lego adventure for 360€ is very reasonable ahahahahaha)
Unfair comparison given how Rivendell is one of the best LEGO sets EVER. So yeah, not as great if you're hoping for something similar but still decent!
Honestly, I really wanted to play this Game! I even came up with the Setting World of Aenudaras for playing "D&D", and also created My own squad! The squad includes the Human Paladin Arkon Korunt, his Half-Elf Wizard Brother Glar Amakkir, as well as their Sister, the High Elf Priestess Loraera Kor'amarir, their friends, the Dragonborn Barbarian Drogor Ogornor, the Halfling Rogue Froori Begrit, and also the Forest Elf Ranger Theia Lirotri, Mountain Dwarf Warrior - Gyrog Duronite and Tiflingsha - Bard - Zaderis of Art!
I’m super excited for this set. Not surprising that many people are going to be interested in this from the D&D game aspect in addition to the excellent build and display. This set has something for everyone.
The beholder looks really cool and I'm kind of impressed with just how many playable features have been jammed into this. I don't think the exposed back is too big of a deal breaker because in most cases this is less for display and more intended to run the adventure with. Definitely one of the more interesting ideas sets I've seen.
I think it's a deal breaker for pure LEGO fans who aren't aware of what D&D is all about. All they'll see is a LEGO model with an open back that "should have been closed off" and that can potentially hurt the sales.
Im sure a 2x rebrickable version will be along soon to solve the open back of it, though its a very overpriced set compared to medieval market if you go by part's so that will limit this.. Lego really seem to enjoy pricing out their fans.
I'd say this is a perfect collaboration, and potentially the start of a new theme. Lego is the perfect size for D&D, and the announced Minifigure series seems to play into that. We could get more adventure sets like this one, or other accessories, such as a dice tower or microscale terrain tiles. Even packs of buildable monster figures would add to player's collections well. To put things in scale, remember that Lego Minecraft started as an Ideas submission before being officially made by Lego and Mojang. Now look how far it's come since then. Lego and Hasbro could very well do the same with this theme.
Hey Tiago! Long time fan of the channel and your content. Sometimes I agree with a lot of your opinions and reviews, and sometimes I disagree, which is good to have healthy discourse and debate regarding the direction of certain sets created by the LEGO Group. And with this set I’m far disagreeing with the price model of the set. I think using price/piece is not a healthy way to continue gauging whether a set is a practical purchase for a consumer, especially when a set like this is as expensive as it is. And with the advent of newer, smaller, more specific pieces emerge almost monthly, it’s important to question whether the shrinking of size of pieces is indicative to the true value of a part. Transitioning from the commentary about price/piece you comment about the luck of castle fans have had over the last few years, which I completely agree with… except if these fans are able to make enough money to justify the cost of these sets. With the release of Lion Knights’ Castle, Rivendell, Medieval Market, and now this it feels as though the standard price has skyrocketed to an average price of $372.50 USD when the last true wave of LEGO Castle were playsets composing of $15-$100 price points. And understanding that you receive review copies this is not as pertinent to you but could be valuable to expressing to your fans and viewers. While all these sets are truly beautiful love letters to LEGO Castle it is reasonable to want cheaper sets for those lower income families. LEGO is a company that vocalizes its inclusivity quite consistently but it feels as though the less fortunate are left out and completely alienated from the equation. If you read this thank you, I am eager to see what your thoughts are on the current market for these prices, and if you’re another viewer like me please feel free to comment as I am eager to engage in discourse around this!
Never planned on buying this, though agree many nice features. Just last night, I crumbled, and purchased it after my nephew said he needed a castle for all the DnD minifigs I bought him for Halloween. Does the set not come with any printed adventure guide, dice and gamesheets though? Bit disappointed if not, but I'm sure I can sort this out.
I am LOOOOVING this set. Unfortunately I'm broke af, so I love checking out ur reviews cus you always go into so much detail in them, anyway- awesome job as always! ✨️🧍🫶🏻
They should do some lego stuff with Guide to Ravnica based set. We need more centaurs. (Mainly a dark stone grey body and dark orange tail.) Also I actually have an official D&D off brand lego set seeming from around the time of 2nd or 3rd edition.
Congratulations Tiago, you've finally managed to make a video where I had to skip a bit ;). Thank you for the review, I've been waiting for you to release a video on this, one of my anticipated sets of this year.
Im gonna come back and say- if you go off the price of Nolzur Minis, the minis + Creatures included in this are worth about 100$. And the dragon is categorically better cause it's (mostly) posable. And people already use Minifigs for their DND minis 🤷♂️
This is so much more awesome than I had ever hoped for. Fingers crossed that this will be in stores in time for my birthday and my wife will get my hints for it (...and not get annoyed by my constant hinting at this wish).
Wow...I didn't realize that they went the extra steps to make this an actual playable D&D campaign! That's pretty amazing, and a fantastic way to incorporate a theme...even more so than the LEGO Super Mario theme, since this one doesn't require any special parts or apps; it's all just regular LEGO, but incorporates game elements. Rather ingenious, I have to say!
I am so excited about this, While lots of people have been running D&D with lego now its now 10000000% offical. I am so excited to see what sets they will come out with.
Thiago, thank you for explaining this set! When I saw it I thought it looked terrible. Now I understand that it is not a shelf model. Thank you! Although the price still seems too high to me. Maybe Ninjago Modulars spoiled me too much?
The head of the dragon??? You're sure? And many, many D&D fans will play with this... As I saw the first blurry pictures I was sure it's a Hulkbuster/Black Panther situation.
I have never played DnD so there’s no reason for me to get this set but it’s so cool. The figures the dragon the inn the castle everything is just awesome. I wish they made another version of this set that didn’t have anything to do with DnD.
How would you even make a set like this with a castle, a dragon, a dungeon, an inn and monsters, without making it a D&D set, other than just not calling it Dungeons and Dragons?
The point of the figures is just a reference to help you understand positions and orientation in battle and environments. Otherwise it can be hard to just describe the current locations of everyone relative to each other.
Im running the lego adventure. i will need to expand the set in my vtt or use something else entirely since i have 8 players. but this video is very useful with me being able to take screenshots to study the layout and to make tokens with the individual monsters and lego figures. i had to keep pausing the video alot but great video and it really shows the set off well.
Curious if the adventure is standalone or if you need other rules information to run it (Basic rules? Others?). Like if someone who is into D&D already wants to get this to show their group maybe it'd be a nice one-off adventure. Really like all the little secrets, quite a lot for a company that already puts fun secrets in bigger sets. No dice is a bit surprising, especially if it's an entry level adventure, maybe some production hurdle there? Lego's modularity already fits in with the custom nature of the RPG so I'm happy to see this, I hope they'll have less expensive stuff in this theme to experiment with. I guess minifigure blind bags may happen?
Great review as always. On the dragon though, I must say Lego butchered the original design, which is way better. The dragon should be the one thing that Lego do not tinker with and I do not understand why they did.
Love the playability with this set, wish I was more into DnD, honestly, just a brilliant idea all around, you can take that and do your own thing as a DM.
thanks for the review, I like the set. Only the price that thew me off....but this video made me reconsider. Seems so nice. How many stickers there are in it?
Awesome set, especially for castle fans, minifigures included. Should be cheaper for the size The dragon isn't so posable, so IMO its not necessarily better than Ninjago dragons, its on par with some of them All the castle set are too expensive, so while there's more castle sets, there aren't cheaper options available 9:00 the mimic chest should be widely available and not exclusive to a GWP or insiders reward I want to get into D&D now
Hey quick question! Some sets only have online booklets. Does this booklet come with the set regularly or do I have to make it with a digital booklet since I’m not a lego insider member
I was planning to buy it until I saw the price. A lot of people both DnD and LEGO fans like myself were not too happy with the price. Now I know its a license theme set but $360 seems way too overprice. I also wish they made the animals like the dragon, owlbear and displacer beast their own molds maybe that could have lowered the price with less pieces involved but I don't know.
09:37 The answer is (For Me) Yes! Been an awesome build so far and I can't wait to play the Game with my Niece and Nephew. The secrets in the terrain Alone will make for a great adventure.
Lovely set and lovely minifigs. The price is a bit spicy (especially since lego fans would have to source other heads to repurpose the minifigs - but no skin on the torsos is great! ) I didn't notice if there are any more prints besides the beholder eyes, owlbear eyes , displacer beast eyes and the mimmic eyes. I hope the 2x1 tiles with spells on them are prints. Those would make up for a great collection of spells for fantasy castle fans.

Same here, I have never played DnD but looking at this set, I want to learn so I can appreciate and enjoy this set!
@@elpiloto100good start is with DnD podcasts. Highly recommend The Adventure Zone, that’s how I got into it
Once again you win "most informative and informed video" award for this review. I have watched 5 youtube reviews on the set and yours was the most complete and comprehensive without being too long. Many thanks.
I do my research! Thank you for the kind words, means a lot :)
This is one of the best sets to come out of the ideas theme in a long time, i love the playability of the set too!
Indeed! I really liked the Polaroid despite the horrible pricing. This one stands at the top of Ideas at the moment for sure!
before one was better
It's also unique in the fact that it came out of a specific contest, rather than just a general submission. Lego and Hasbro knew they were going to do this collab for awhile.
Not gonna lie, this is one of the best Lego sets of all time, like top 10. So much playability and displayability. Basically perfect
For real, as a fan of dnd and lego this is a dream come true
I would love to buy just the beholder. Scary and cute at the same time, and one of the most classic DnD monsters ever.
Just wanted to say that I kind of like the T connectors holding down the wings. Makes me thing of tendons/bones in the wings because dragons in fantasy source materials usually have sinews, muscles, and bones that run through the wings for support so the connectors work for me, at least in my own head cannon.
Agreed. Definitely better than the technic pieces that are usually used.
Haha, that twist at the end! So creative!

Who in their right mind would EVER want to scribble notes in that BEAUTIFUL adventure book??????
Desperate time call for desperate measures.
Can always scan and print fresh copies of those pages to write on 😂
As a life-long D&D player, I love every part of this!!!
I'd love to see Character vs Creature packs, honestly.
So many interesting parts and fun designs, maybe modded for playability.
LEGO feels like such a perfect medium to craft and build all things DnD I think!
@@TiagoCatarino There is quite a community of people playing D&D with Lego already :) r/LegoDnD for example.
@@horrorfan117they have DnD CMF on the way!
That's the thing though- it's a Lego set first and functioning terrain second
It is not a tabletop material, it is a d&d themed lego set with a fun small game as bonus.
I’ve been toying with the idea of using Lego to build D&D play spaces for a while now. I would enjoy a whole theme dedicated to this concept.
I was really impressed that the buildings could be split by floor and the roof easily removed. That’s a great feature for playability.
Check out the legodnd subreddit. Have fun
I’m not sure you know what “vast majority” means…
@@Colinmchapman in terms of Lego community (those who generally buy it, numbering in millions globally), I think that's pretty accurate. you have to start looking at Lego not as a toy, but as a sort of a "drug for adults" (hobby, "investment"), it's no longer a piece of boring plastic for small kids as it used to be 30-40 years ago.
Another shortcumming (a real design flaw in architecture world):
Remember, this is a PnP, with stats and variants of monsters to choose.
That’s a bit extra, doubt many people go by this idea
Out of all the possible buyers for the set only one or two would actually appreciate that
There are more then 6 dragons
since you can take it apart this would have been so cool if it was released as 5 small sets you could put together to make one big if you wanted to, or just enjoy the small set
Thanks for the review Tiago! I’m not a D&D fan, but my sister would like this.
Rest of the set aside, that dragon built looks spectacular. As a dnd and dragon fan, I might get that one
I gotta say this set looks absolutely fabulous and actually goes well with a lot of medieval sets like mentioned. Black smith too.
Hey Tiago,
Just wanted to say i love the effort and love and dedication put into your videos
Whenever i am getting a lego,i always look at your vids
Thanks
:)
Agreed
We need affordable medieval sets! And in general
Not usually a technic fan, (prefer Adventurers, Pirates and Castle) but the working Solar System model does look awesome. Would love to see a review.
This set is love pure. Of course it is expensive but for people loving LEGO and DnD this set is a no-brainer. Thanks LEGO and Wizards of the Coast.
This set could have really benefited from the removable rooms that the latest Ninjago City had. Then it could have a closed back while also allowing the DM to remove rooms and show them off during a game
2:52 the DM:how did you manage to D I E the Quest was to find the bee-holding?!
The player: oh the bee-holding oh no
I was originally kind of disappointed that they didn’t stick with the original design.
Imagine an Elden Ring Lego theme, like a big Radahn model, or a small version of Limgrave
Technic thingy next please, I'm dying to know more about b/ it looks really interesting and my first ever technic set (aside from some really small ones) could be a really interesting building experience
NEXT: Technic thingy for sure! I am really thinking about ordering the Orrery
We used Lego for "the dark eye" when I was a teenager and my brother still uses Lego now for terrain in DnD, so I'm a fan and he'll probably be too...
I cant believe im living in a world where a lego set can have spoilers
I had no idea it could get that pricey! wow!
you should find someone to play with and see by youself how deep is the rabbit hole ahahahahaha @@TiagoCatarino
I really don't need another expensive hobby to get into 😂
How was the building experience (comparing with Rivendell for example) ?
If you read this thank you, I am eager to see what your thoughts are on the current market for these prices, and if you’re another viewer like me please feel free to comment as I am eager to engage in discourse around this!
you haven't done a speed champion set in a while. great video! if i had the money id get this one, my family loves lego and DnD.
I love that they included cmf series, the set is really good tho the dragon could have been more like the briclink submission, but it’s good overall
(Mainly a dark stone grey body and dark orange tail.)
Also I actually have an official D&D off brand lego set seeming from around the time of 2nd or 3rd edition.
Technic set next please
that dragon is absolutely incredible
This was unexpected! I have never played D&D before but this is an awesome model.
It really is! Wish I had friends to play this with 🥲
Stickers, stickers, stickers everywere in all new sets.
For this price is simply unexeptable. Shame on you LEGO
:(
Wow...I didn't realize that they went the extra steps to make this an actual playable D&D campaign! That's pretty amazing, and a fantastic way to incorporate a theme...even more so than the LEGO Super Mario theme, since this one doesn't require any special parts or apps; it's all just regular LEGO, but incorporates game elements. Rather ingenious, I have to say!
I know, right?
I must admit it looks a lot better in person and the scale, especially the dragon, looks really good! 😍
Oh my…they even did STAT SHEETS FOR THE CHARACTERS?! This is such a cool set.
This looks like an amazing set. Just FYI, "dice" is already a plural - so you don't need "dices".
It was a GREAT build as a d&d fan. I have the monsters on my desk, they're so cute.
And so it starts...
A new hand touches the beacon. A new fan is coming home.
2:43 i think Its like Slime in Minecraft but this one can eat you(that why there are bones inside of it)(i never played D&D,Its just my theory
I am so excited about this, While lots of people have been running D&D with lego now its now 10000000% offical. I am so excited to see what sets they will come out with.
Wow love this DandD set dragon and minifigs looks awesome great review 👍
I'd never thought there could be spoilers for a lego set. This above and beyond my expectations :o
Lucky man! I didn't think I'd be seeing a review of this so soon!
The box with minus, at 9:42. was that included?
Fun fact the gelatinous cube isnt actually colored. Artists do this to actually show you the creature. Its completely clear
I guess minifigure blind bags may happen?
we need more lego- dnd collabs, maybe for already existing premade campaigns with a setline for all the important settings of the campaign
I like it! I’m glad they are trying new IP’s and not just Harry Potter and Star Wars.
I think I counted 5? Maybe six?
Awesome set, especially for castle fans, minifigures included. Should be cheaper for the size
The dragon isn't so posable, so IMO its not necessarily better than Ninjago dragons, its on par with some of them
All the castle set are too expensive, so while there's more castle sets, there aren't cheaper options available
9:00 the mimic chest should be widely available and not exclusive to a GWP or insiders reward
I want to get into D&D now
And I love the green dragon guy so much😭
Hey quick question! Some sets only have online booklets. Does this booklet come with the set regularly or do I have to make it with a digital booklet since I’m not a lego insider member
Paper booklet is not included, you have to buy it separately or download digital one.
Awesome review and never fails to steer one wrong or hold back! Thank Tiago :)
I'm not gonna buy this set but I was waiting for this review ❤
Fantastic Lego player character properties sheets and variant swaps! - But were ist the Lego dice?
