@@billyyank5807 I am a lifelong Bama fan and I totally agree. It was so hard to watch. I always worried that NIL would take the fight out of the dog. Nothing to be hungry for anymore if you don’t value team first and school legacy. It certainly changes things, but the money to made in the NFL should still be their primary focus.
The entire league is having those problems…it by NO means is just AL. Even the teams winning are having those same issues. And, Saban retired, because a coach can’t fix something that a force as great as the league itself is promoting. I’m a 2nd gen OSU alumni, and my school is unrecognizable at this point, for the exact same reasons. My father, my wife, and myself all grew up with the same campus….with very little change. Today that school is nothing more than a giant retail outlet for books, and merchandise. Over 100yrs of tradition, all but gone. And, Saban’s right….it’s the culture, that’s led in large part by the leadership of our country (a whole separate conversation). I don’t see this changing until the league itself changes and gets back to playing for the tradition, or program, of the schools.

The adults created this so why blame the players. They're doing what it was created to do. Playing college football has become a job. Perform or go home but we gonna pay you.
Some former players have said the same thing. They used to work so hard and focused on becoming better players because becoming a great player was how you GOT TO the 💰. Now they already have the money so the incentive to get better for most players is greatly reduced.
Which former players would those be? The ones that made it to the league and made 10s if no 100s of millions? How about we ask Tyrone Prothro or some other player that never made it to the league and see what they say.
My roommate in college was the starting linebacker at LSU. He was from a very small Louisiana town and his family was extremely poor. As a freshman he was already getting interest from the NFL. The end of his sophomore year he blows out his knee. He was never the same player after that and by the beginning of his senior year he was out of football. I talk to him from time to time and he says he wished he had the opportunity that these kids have now to have set his family up. To get his mom a house. How is this fair?
"Temporarily committed & self-indulgent" also describes 99% of college football coaches. Where do you think the players learned the behavior from? NIL and the the portal allows the players to have the same rights as the coaches and now the a lot of coaches are throwing a hissy fit about it as if they haven't been leaving jobs for more money and/or a better situation for decades. The only coaches not looking to move up are those with Top-10 jobs and even they jump ship when the seat gets hot enough.
Coaches are entitled to this professional courtesy as they are much more important to the play of the game than any one else. Look at Knute Rockne. One weekend he's coaching ND football, the next he's selling used cars to help pay his rent, and if that's enough he's having to work as a sports reporter for the Chicago Tribune and after he meets his deadline and gets his long from article proof read rushes back to South Bend to coach another Notre Dame Violent Irish football game. Then it's back to the car lot on Monday morning. And if that's not enough he has to take care of his aging mom and special needs little sister on top of raising his own family. And oh yeah, let's not forget that in early fall he's got to be on his family farm for harvestinf season. I think they raised soybeans and corn feed. So you tell me. Maybe the coaches need a union on par with the teamsters. Thanks 😊
Coaches are adults in a job market, college players are young students who play football. Turning college football into a job market is detrimental to the essence of college football. One of the things people love about college football is that it isnt NFL. The closer college gets to NFL the closer it gets to losing its identity.
@@Mr50403I’ve heard this argument so many times, it’s what everyone that wants the NIL always falls back on. It’s virtue signaling. You want to appear to be on the side of right, even though what you think is right is highly questionable. For the rest of the arguement, I defer to Nick Saban. Seriously, if you aren’t goig to listen to what Saban says about it, you are just going to believe what you want to believe. Alabama would definitely pay their players to continue winning, so it’s not like it would necessarily hurt Saban.
My thoughts exactly...look, they're given a free top notch education that most people have to pay for. You get one transfer thats it... you don't like it suck it up or go walk on somewhere else.
Yes. NIL is a problem, but the changing of the transfer rules, is the main problem. It was broken before, that a guy had to sit out a year, so changing that was okay, but definitely should have been one transfer only.
Then collectively bargain with the LABOR and give the labor 1/2 of everything, (concessions, ticket sales, merchandise, media and TV revenue) then we can restrict poor people that are good at football free market and freedom of education, that you enjoy.
Nick Saban is a great politician. As soon as the supreme court said that the NIL was aok. saban went to the congress to say I beg your pardon, and told the other politician there he was right and the supreme court was full of sh*t. He's running in the next election against you guess it , tommy tuberville. He knows ala people will vote for him, because nick has hundreds of millions of dollars tied up with the NCAA. This coach is so ruthless as ever, in it for his power, and not the STUDENT!! Remember his actions speak louder than his words, Saban is a great politician!
The best coach in the limelight! Love listening to coach Saban. Love is life principles and love his commitment to excellence. Sometimes it is a grind. Perseverance
I agree he is the best coach to ever do it. But when he had the chance to make incremental changes to help the students, he sided with the coaches and that has created what you have now.
Once the top 50 to 60 teams leave the NCAA they will implement a salary cap. Division I football does not need the NCAA anymore. Right now the Bryce Underwood pay situation put a jolt in the system and it was a natural extension to the spendola.
All schools have been paying players and their families for years, sat scores ment nothing for years Stop calling them student athletes nothing new. Call it what it is now a job . So now make them sign contracts and pay taxes , enough said .
College football has been the minor leagues for the NFL for several decades now. Why shouldn't they get paid if they can? The NCAA makes billions off of them. They deserve what they can get. However, the transfer portal is what's ridiculous.
Well most guys love the sport!!!..but some just want the money!!!....it's about the money, yea you wanna be a great player, but those college guys see how the league goes, most of them I not all understand there rookie year no money,or little money,vs staying one more year getting a bigger bag!!. ;?BTW iam totally against TRANFERING PERIOD
That's HILARIOUS coming from a coach that bounced around from team to team, in hopes a landing a better situation for himself and his family. Outside of Alabama, Saban was team jumping since the 70s. But now that players are doing it, it's a problem.
So the people that’s doing the ACTUAL labor shouldn’t get payed? You okay with the Networks Coaches and Universities making Millions BUT HEAVEN FORBID THE PLAYERS?????

Thank you for all you did for our country. But who is asking these kids to sacrifice anything. All the kids want is fair value for the product they produce. A coach can move from school to school to school to make more and more money, and leave the kids he recruited behind. Who is getting mad at coaches who leave their teams before bowl games. Who is getting mad a coaches who tells their team (and parents) he isn.t leaving for the NFL only to leave a month later? They day they paid Steve Spurrier $1 million dollars to coach Florida was the end of college football.
You are wrong. Billionaire are made off the back of the athletes. Im a vet as well. We got paid pennies in the Military to protect shipping lanes and oil rigs. Tell the truth.
It is a NEW landscape. Players have more freedom, and that is changing the very essence of College Football. Hard to say if it’s bad or good. The players should be compensated for the loads of money they bring in, but now players are incentivized to play coaches and situations for monetary gain, not aspirations for college success from a skill point and draft ranking for the NFL in the league beyond.
1. Saban is the greatest coach and he loves football. 2. Saban was a mercenary coach for many years and abruptly left the NFL during the season. 3. Not mad at these kids getting paid. College football is big business

Really appreciate this discussion about players not growing up, not being ready to enter the pros. You can see all the attributes of the cancel culture - centering on personal feelings and immediate pleasure. And like Coach said, we all know where this is leading. Disaster. And it's ruining sports.
Well he was losing control too as it showed the past few years. Would Bama have 3 losses if he was still the coach. I say no but it's happening everywhere. Just look at how the pups are playing. They'll show up for one game and lay an egg in another.

So I get Bama, OSU, UGA, etc fans dont like the portal/NIL era and I think there needs to be some caps, transfer contracts- ie either sit out a year, or min 2 years after transfer, etc. And I was against the playoff going to 12 teams (I think it should be 8), but after watching this year I have to admit there are so many more games that matter late in the season. More teams have a chance not only to get in but to win in the playoff. Saban stockpiled 5 stars - not only just to play at Bama, but they couldn't play against him if they were on his sideline. Saban made millions off players.
I’ve been an Alabama fan for 43 years and my dads headstone actually has ROLL TIDE etched into it. This year I’ve cut the tv off 4 times before the game was over because I couldn’t stand watching anymore of this team. Too undisciplined and seem unprepared every game except for the Georgia game
Of course, the rich has a problem with others becoming rich. He's not on the field running for his life while eating Roman noodles for dinner later the day. He's part of wealth class and is afraid of losing that wealth.
So it’s ok for him to make millions but not the players? Of course all of the jealous losers are in the comments agreeing. These young men put their bodies and health on the line every game for your entertainment but they shouldn’t get paid while they generate billions for others?
Yes! Saban finally said what a lot of us have been saying. The “best of the worst”, shouldn’t be getting a bye week (i.e Boise over OSU). NCAA isn’t going to fix these playoff problems if the same people are making the decisions. That just means they’ll make potentially 12 mistakes. This isn’t the NFL. But, they’re doing everything possible to make it like the NFL. *What they’ve done is turn college football into a soul-less, mercenary sport full of entitled kids who are there solely for the paycheck. Now kids are showing up with a “I get paid whether the team wins or not” attitude.* But, I digress…. Base the bracket on the rank, NOT who wins their conference, because the Big 12 is nowhere NEAR the Big 10 or SEC. *As of right now, OSU, TEXAS, OREGON, MIAMI (or GA/TN).*
Something is not right...supposed to be the best teams, like they said last year. But they still put teams with one loss and a weak schedule that hasn't beaten a top 25 team ahead of teams with 2 losses that have a better win resume.
@ Yup…and one of those teams is getting a bye-week over the #2 team. They tried to fix a problem by simply adding more teams, instead of getting rid of the people who were causing these problems with a 4-team CFP. And, with NIL, and the fact that college football is now a mercenary sport….it causes these bi-polar results. A team loses to an unranked team one week, then blows out a top 5 team the next. What are we supposed to do with that…smh.
TEMPORARILY COMMITTED & SELF-INDULGENT!' Just like the coaches used to be! Ain't as much fun when the rabbit got the gun! Pimp theory is over!!! pay them!!!
I will not be surprised if the Aggies beat Texas and Auburn beats Bama. If so the wheels are really going to fall off in Tuscaloosa. Last year Bama needed a miracle to win in Jordan Hare and that was with Saban. Kalen is a monumental failure as the hire. Saban should have been able to hand pick his successor.
that was also in Auburn though, where the Iron Bowl has traditionally been a tough game. the Iron Bowl hasn’t been a close game in Tuscaloosa since 2014
Ya'll Bama fans are sore losers. Lose three games and it's the head coach....not the lack of effort by the players at all. See that pick 6 by Milroy? He didn't even try to make a play afterwards...just gave up. That's Alabama now. Whiners and babies.
So you are telling me that OH St playing 2 easy teams has a harder path to the semifinals than Oregon playing the winner of Georgia/Tenn. You must be delusional
Bama thinking they should win without Nick is disrespectful to him. He isn't easy to replace and just because they have talent doesn't mean they can coach them!
It seems very hypocritical for a coach who spent his time telling kids where they can transfer to and where they cant, left LSU for greener pastures, left his team after telling them he wouldn't leave. Made millions while people I know who played for him that couldn't take his girlfriend on a date. All this on the backs of kids now wants to tell them to be FOR TEAM, when coaches do not have to.
The coaches are the primary draw of the sport. The athletes merely express the intellect of the coaches. The design. The scheme. The strategury. That's the DNA of the coaches' supreme level of excellence. And the fans love ❤️ it. Just ask Nick Saban. The God Father of sport.
@ I’m sure Jimbo Fisher thought the same thing.. where is he now? And Greg Shiano, Mike Gundy, Mike Norvell. Soooo when their good players were gone… are the fans still Lovin It like you say?!??
Looks to me like they both got rings didn’t they? What about those players that signed a 30 million 5 year deal? Should they send money to the coach that’s making 2 million a year?
@ there’s 22-25% that are draft eligible and 30% usually make it to the nfl so your numbers are a little off but I’m sure you knew that. But if they couldn’t get an NIL deal or drafted……..there’s a common denominator in that equation isn’t it? If those players don’t feel the need to put in the effort and work for it nah they don’t deserve a dime. But for the ones that do excel on a team and are standouts, give some to them.
@ but if we are going to go by that logic, if the head football coach makes 2 million dollars a year and his team wins a championship, should the head football coach give money to the baseball players and basketball players too? Because you mention the high percentage of players that don’t go to the NFL but you don’t mention the reason WHY they don’t go……..
We need a discussion on how nil works. Lots of bad information surrounding it. A lot of people thinks its just pay for play....its not. Many think everyone is making millions, they aren't. A majority of players will never see a nil deal. Its a few select players on teams if you're lucky. Its basically the stars. Now think what that does to a Locker room when kids are busting their butts and one dude is getting paid........let's see how long that lasts 😂
You think players didn't know Reggie Bush got a house at USS decades ago. This is nothing new. Doesn't seem to hurt an MFL Lockeroom. A lot of the high paid college QBs take care of their team, especially the O line. Please look at history and do research. Seem like you're just a pessimist.
@billyyank5807 For those players not getting paid, if they get good enough, someone will offer them a bag. Is that not what the American dream is all about.

Thanks 😊

For the rest of the arguement, I defer to Nick Saban. Seriously, if you aren’t goig to listen to what Saban says about it, you are just going to believe what you want to believe. Alabama would definitely pay their players to continue winning, so it’s not like it would necessarily hurt Saban.
Certainly NIL is a factor, but the players should not be allowed to transfer more than once in their college career.
My thoughts exactly...look, they're given a free top notch education that most people have to pay for. You get one transfer thats it... you don't like it suck it up or go walk on somewhere else.
Tuhs pu!
Yes. NIL is a problem, but the changing of the transfer rules, is the main problem. It was broken before, that a guy had to sit out a year, so changing that was okay, but definitely should have been one transfer only.
The NIL & TP has ruined college sports, it has taken the meaning and definition of team and made it an individual focus on $$$$.
He's exactly right, and I don't blame him one bit for leaving. He saw what was happening.
Yep exactly. College football committee is bought and paid for to allow NIL to be something. Spoils the game and players
We should abolish the NCAA and let Saban run college football, NIL, Conference Alignment, playoffs, all of it.
It’s nearly a trillion dollar industry. Any person that proposes that would be wacked faster than that health care CEO this week.
Once the top 50 to 60 teams leave the NCAA they will implement a salary cap. Division I football does not need the NCAA anymore.
Right now the Bryce Underwood pay situation put a jolt in the system and it was a natural extension to the spendola.

@@quantumpotential7639Its about Jimmy and Joes not Xs and Os.
Words from the GOAT
That’s pretty rich coming from the guy who was/is making millions off of these kids.
Looks to me like they both got rings didn’t they? What about those players that signed a 30 million 5 year deal? Should they send money to the coach that’s making 2 million a year?
Better to be silent and thought a fool, instead of speaking or opening your mouth and remove all doubt
@@shanewoods1980 What about the 99% who didn't make the NFL? Should the $2 million coach pay them?
He is right I could listen to him no matter what he talking about goat
@conquest_icon-f4w no obviously don't know what the American dream. These players live with no accountability and you can't tell. Players aren't developing at all anymore.
@@TChalla007you oversimplified the situation. These players don't have any accountability.
@jeremycremeans1854 so you are a mind reader now. Jaden Daniels, Bo nix, Mayle, Williams, Stroud, Verse, Marvin Harrison Jnr, I can go on and on they all got NIL, and they are fine
I do know the American dream, and it has always been about making money, which ever, you can do it as long as you can get away with it
Saban and I are neighbors, so I know college football, 😂. It Definitely seems to be a me 1st, team 2nd attitude out there now. I know they are gone, but I can’t help but to long for the old days.
What a great tip to ball carriers in cold weather. The goat has spoken. Love Coach Saban
