It feels so good to get a sports segment where teams and coaches are not getting bashed or overly praised. Coach Saban is trying to teach us that it's about mentality, philosophy, and living the process. That's what brings success, that's what establishes a culture, that's what makes you the "mountain". It's bigger than just your natural ability and having the most money.
I knew Cignetti when he came to Bama. Really a nice coach, very easy to talk to..met most of the new staff, probably talked to him and Lance Thompson the most.
Dear lord just drop the Tua thing. He’s not the only guy who gets concussions. It’s his life to put on the line. I mean why is everyone celebrating demar Hamlins return after dying on the football field and being just as susceptible to injury as before but poor Tua can’t weigh the risks himself. Tua just needs to try a little harder to avoid big hits, especially in a league that favors the qb so much.
@@bwalsh1105I swear Tua is one of the most glorified QBs in the NFL. They nitpick everything he does. I sometimes feel like he’s talked about more than Mahomes but maybe that’s just cuz I’m a Dolphins fan. A player getting a lot of concussions and still playing has happed before and will continue to happen. Hamlin literally died on the football field for a moment but it’s Tua should retire. 😂 like Saban said Tua needs to stop trying to make plays when they aren’t there. It’s always gotten him hurt in college and NFL
That is exactly what Tua has always done. I just hope he finally figured out that if he wants to change the outcome of getting hurt, and in doing so, hurting his teams ability to win, that means that there is never going to be one play that is worth trying to save, more than you being able to play the next play, and the next series, and the next game. There isn’t ever one bad play that could win an entire game if you just find a way to save it. That’s a fairy tale for athletes in a team sport. There certainly isn’t a single play in any game, that will accomplish the goal of ultimate success, winning the Super Bowl. But on the contrary, you most certainly can kill your teams entire season and hope of reaching that goal, by trying to do too much when it wasn’t ever going to give you that result in the first place. You can’t win a Super Bowl in week 1. You can most certainly ruin your teams chance to even compete for it in week 1. Specifically at the QB position. No other position carries that responsibility. No one single play is worth the entire season, and allowing yourself to treat one like it is, will often times cost not only your ability to be successful, but your entire teams. There aren’t any teams in the NFL who could survive an entire season with the backup QB and be real threats for a superbowl run. Hell, 1/4 of the teams don’t even have capable starting QBs in any given season. You can’t be expecting any team to be able to survive a second string QB for any significant amount of time, when roughly 1/4 of the teams are starting guys that are on the same level as the average backup, and basically none of those teams get outside of the top 10 of the draft pick order, and if they do, it’s like the Steelers last year. They had three certified backups swapping out the starting role, and the team and coaching staff, and the number of teams who lost their QBs for the year is the only reason they got to the wildcard round, and all that did was hurt their draft pick. Then the Browns with Flacco. Same story with different characters. They did just enough to only be able to hurt themselves down the road. The Browns maybe could have but even they weren’t ever a real threat to make it through the playoffs with Flacco. And he showed why that was in Houston when they got smacked by the Texans, who got smacked silly by Baltimore, when they didn’t even have Mark Andrew’s and I’m pretty sure another skill player on offense was out for that game. And they shut Texans down in the second half and made it look easy. And they were competitive with KC on the scoreboard, but I don’t think the chiefs were trying to push the issue and run the score up just for the sake of doing it. They just played smart and efficient as they could on offense without taking a bunch of risks, and let their defense try to force Baltimore into making mistakes. Which is exactly what happened, and they capitalized on it every time.
Respect to the coach but th NIL hill is not the one to die on.. pay to play is the same as pay for your name on a stadium.. every time your name is mentioned in school media, uniform number, every moment you spend in school apparel... AND the original intent was pay to play but if course it got watered down into the current NIL policy
Love Saban but everything he says about the players “looking out for themselves” is exactly what coaches have been doing forever. Exact reason why DeBoerr left Washington - more money & success
Has it been the coaches fault that the NCAA is a joke with more greed than the rest of all levels of sports combined?? There certainly have been some coaches who just toed the line for the NCAA solely because they wanted a competitive advantage. If you’ve ever actually listened to what Saban says, and paid attention to his actions, you would know that he has genuinely been concerned for the actual long term implications for the players, in all sports, not even just football.
@@HawgWyldFishing I’ve literally listened to every pre game press conference he’s had for the last decade. I agree with you that he cares and he is genuine. My point is the same message he preaches also applies to the coaches and he should recognize that when a player sees them (the coach) look out for their own asses it shouldn’t be surprising when the player does the same. Especially when people like Jimbo literally got their contracts of the back of James Winston and that national championship.
@@EulogyfortheAngels the only reason you think it’s a false equivalency is because you think they are actually student athletes. They are no different then coaches.
12:00 what a bad framing of the question. There has always parity in the SEC. During Saban’s tenure at Bama…Georgia, Auburn, LSU and Florida all won National Championships.
Other than Georgia, those teams only one once and Georgia won twice, so 5/19 years he didn’t win, that’s not great parity. This year you are seeing usual bottom SEC team going toe to toe with the juggernauts, look at vandy beating bama and taking Texas to the very end.
@@frankf684 the guy said it was Bama and everyone else. I am disputing that with facts.if you aren’t going to honor my facts then we are going to have to agree to disagree. 5 different teams winning the SEC in 17 years is parity.
Nick decided to leave because he could no longer attract the elite talent he once did. With the introduction of NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) opportunities, schools with substantial financial resources, such as Texas, Tennessee, and Michigan, began to secure top recruiting classes. This phenomenon is known as parity, and I believe it's a key reason why Saint Nick chose to step away. Now, athletes have the chance to earn money while still pursuing their professional dreams.
@treomoe Saban's recruiting classes never dipped outside the top 3 except I believe once before NIL even started. He never had a single issue attracting top talent. He just had trouble hanging onto ALL of them once the portal started but so did everyone else. Also I'm not even sure why you decided to give that little lecture or what it had to do with anything.
@@NDiddy Tell us you've never been in a lecture without actually saying it-go ahead, we want to hear it! 😂 You prove the point that Nick didn’t like the new rules because he couldn’t control what a player wanted to do with their own destiny. Coaches were able to control where a player could transfer in the past and used it over players, including Nick. However, your bias shows, from the profile picture to the very so call lecture you just gave in defense (your statement isn’t a lecture, just to help you out).
Drives me crazy listening to Saban cry about “things being about money.” When he had the largest recruiting budget in college football, the highest coaching staff budget & $100mm+ facilities, he had no issue with “things being about money.” Now the kids get a piece of the pie and can tell the egomaniac coach deuces if they are lied to or mistreated it’s an issue. His $10mm /year salaries while screaming “student athlete” is part of the pay disparity that led to the ncaa getting neutered!
Yea a couple bands to a couple hundred thousand which was mad risky is no where close to your backup QB having a $5k a week commercial deal 😂 there’s 19 year olds plural with more money than most will make their entire lifetime now thanks to NIL. The game has changed massively because no hiding has to be done and it’s not a scandal over chump change
I don't think they paid the most money, maybe in some cases, but they paid like everyone else while also offering the best competitive environment for player development in getting prepared for the league while guaranteeing a shot to play for and win an sec championship and national championship in your time there (which I believe held true for any of his plauers that were on campus for 4 year minimum)

I really thought it would be a mistake that would get swept under the rug like those chips your 5 yr old drops in the floor, then tells you she "cleaned up" 😂.
