@@SaraBurdick We go to Tulua...about 50 minutes from Cali, where my wife is from. We have a house there and her parents live in that house. I just love it. We got married in Cali almost 25 years ago and we'll be celebrating our 25th in January.
One thing that I still have not gotten used to is buying milk. In the U.S. I buy a gallon of milk but in Colombia, I have to buy little bags of milk. It still is strange to me.
Haha yea buying in bags or boxes is strange! I have never really drunk milk in the US, and I rarely drink it here. But the people who live with me always buy the shelf stable, which I find strange!
Hi, I'm Colombian, ( Medellín). Good video. I need to tell that it upsets me to see how you just dump garbage on the grass, we DON'T do that in Colombia. ( if you pay attention to images, you'll see that people, streets, sidewalks, stores, parks are mostly clean. Greetings.
thank you. That is where the garbage truck picks up the trash, which is why we placed it there. They have specific drop points, and that is one of them .. my guy is Colombian from Medellin, and that is where he was told to place it, so we put it there. The truck picked it up, and it was gone when we drove past. My guy, Colombian, is also very concerned about what we do with our trash, and it took us forever to find out how to properly dispose of it since the garbage trucks do not come to the rural areas.
Oh, I loved this video!!! For such a small place, I couldn't believe the noise, haha. A few things were noted. The buildings are bright and beautiful, mostly two colors. I wonder why. I loved that the clothing is so casual. Nothing particularly "stylish"- nobody stood out like here in the US, which is one thing that makes me uncomfortable here. Also, i would stick out like a sore thumb with my whte/blonde hair, haha. I loved seeing the inside of the stores, pan slower next time, please, haha i wanted to see the details. When you said the coffee was expensive compared to your favorite, how much in USD? Sorry i have so many questions!! Anyway, this was great, i enjoyed the ride to town, too!!❤
thanks!! It is actually a quiet town compared to others, its normally not that loud, its because it was Saturday. The loudspeaker noise was from the church!!! Yesss the colors here are amazing. It is probably the paint that was available haha! People are usually pretty chill here with style, it is a more conservative town.. its very religious here! Yes I stick out there are not many foreigners! Ok I will film inside the stores more, and slower!! It was around 3 USD for a cup.. which is a lot here!! Thanks, glad you liked it, trying to show more of the towns!
@@SaraBurdick You're right, that is a lot for a cup of coffee in Colombia, I would imagine. Yes, I love seeing the towns. If you ever have the time will you do Minca, so I can see it, and also, maybe a short of the beach and water if you get down that way? I hate motorcycles but while I was riding with you and your guy I kinda had a different perspective... here in the US I rode one with a guy and he was a maniac, he did hairpin curves almost laying the bike down, I never got on one again, hahah

@@SaraBurdick When we were there, a local explained to me that the city passed a decree that anyone who paints their home or business must use a minimum of three colors of paint. Have you heard that tale?
I have heard reported by expats in Ecuador that police stops often/sometimes include a "support your local police" donation. Doesn't sound like that's the case in Colombia. Also sounds like the background music in the cafe might be too loud to be able to sit and have a comfortable conversation or read a book, which means for me either no thanks or coffee to go! Don't understand the culture of loud background music - let me enjoy a nice quiet conversation with my friends!
oh that is interesting, no, I have never had anyone ask to be ¨supported¨ here, in both places I have lived, they search and let you go! Usually they never ask or search me when they realize i am a foreigner also! The cafe was way too loud, that is enough for me not to go back also...That day was louder in town that normal, and its also why I avoid town on the weekend, we went on Saturday and it was busy. During the week it is so peaceful!
I believe i could overcome all the little hassles otger than the loudness of some of the shops and music being played to loud. But as it has been said if its to loud your to old 😅
It was horrible. All day long the motos race by that corner and blast noise. The last thing that I expect in Medellin is peace and quiet, but I was hoping for a little of that in Jericó. The next trip to Jericó (and there will be a next one) I will do better research. Live and learn.
@@jeffschueler1182 yess I have heard there is an Air BB out near where I live in the mountain and its quiet! You just need to order a tuk tuk to take you to town, but peaceful!
I like your videos. Columbia is a special place. Visited Medellin myself last year. Have you come to grips with the tax situation? Because the U.S. doesn't have a tax treaty with Columbia, spending more than 180 days there looks problematic.
Thank you. This will be my first full year here, so I will see how it goes regarding taxes. However, this past year, my income did not qualify me to have to pay. If it increases, I will see what happens.
Speedbumps? What speedbumps? The driver must not have seen them LOL. Glad you didn't go flying off the backend. I will say I do miss my Colombian empanadas. Every now and again I'd find a small shop or vendor with empanadas de pollo and it was juicy freshly cooked crispy goodness. The only thing that shocked me here was the Jehovah's Witnesses. I did not know they had a presence there.
hahah, probably why I notice them because I get tossed around!! Oooh I love the empanadas here, especially the pastel de Pollo!!! I have one a week at least. The JW are all over, I once had a neighbor who tried to convert me, when she invited me over for a drink, broke out the bible and everything! THey are in all small towns, and there is always a church nearby!! Its crazy.. since Colombia is mostly Catholic.
