I had a similar experience. My Medellin boyfriend was at work and I thought I would go on a tour. The tour guide drugged and robbed me. Thank god my boyfriend who lives in Medellin found me and rescued me.
Love the representation! I’m a new gay expat in Medellin and appreciate others realizing this is one of the most accepting places for us in LATAM. And he’s right, ciclovía is the best part of the weekend!
Great interview once again, love the diversity of your guests. For the political comments here, this is not a political channel, someone is sharing their life story, do you really have detract from it by focusing a minute aspect of the guest’s interesting story and make it political?
Great content. Sam seems like a great guy. I'll check out his website. I haven't been outside of Bogotá yet, because I love the cooler weather there so much; I don't want to be hot and sweaty. 😆🇨🇴🏳️🌈
Scopolamine is used for several things in the usa medical practice. And there are plenty of other drugs that already do the same thing and are used in USA roofies, ketamine, GHB have been used since the late 1980's in USA. Datura won't be a problem here.
There was a community that supported me at that time. Shit happens everywhere in the world. But what happens after really matters. I guess if I didn't have that support from friends and colleagues, I might have made a different decision. But the fact that folks were there when I needed it is an important part of my decision to stay.
I actually don't oppose Gallego. I just worked on the campaign of another great quality Democratic candidate who ran against him in the primary for the Congressional seat. I've known Ruben for quite a while, and I've always appreciated his advocacy and work for the community. I'm excited he's heading to the Senate.
Haha. So I’ll blame it on social media zapping our attention spans, but I’d encourage you to listen to what was said again. There is no way in hell I’d support Kari Lake. A few missed messages from the video: 1) I worked on a political campaign more than 10 years ago BEFORE moving to Colombia. Ruben wasn’t running for Senate at the time and Kari Lake wasn’t in the picture. 2) I worked for his opponent in the PRIMARY. Meaning Democratic primary. It was an open Congressional seat. I worked for a great Democratic candidate who stood up to Sheriff Joe Arpaio and represented Democratic values on the Board of Supervisors. But Ruben was a great candidate. He won that election. And he’s going to be a great Senator!
It depends...most foreigners here stay for a long time, but ultimately will return to their home country. Here's the definition, "Expats typically plan to return to their native country at some point, while immigrants intend to stay permanently in the new country." So yes, many are "expats," and some are immigrants who stay here forever.

Thanks. And to be honest, they're making their own assumptions and coming to false conclusions, but you're right, this story isn't about politics.

The LGBT community is big in Medellin. There were like 80,000 people at 2023 Pride.
And he didn't leave Colombia after being drugged and robbed. Interesting 🤔

@@williammcghee863 In the USA, sadly, the same thing happens much too often and I’d bet you wouldn’t expect the victims to leave the USA.
This kind of thing happens everywhere in the world and I think the US is actually probably more dangerous - as someone who's lived in both countries.
What's going on the street? Lots of people and no cars
On Sundays, certain streets are closed off so people can walk, jog, bike, play, whatever. Called "ciclovia"

Interesting he opposes Gallego, as Gallego is a high quality politician.
No he’s not. 😂
@ Not sure where your head’s at… he just defeated Lake, then, yes, he really is a solid politician and he’s a winner!

Wait he worked for Kari Lake? Not a fan.
What difference does it make?????
