If I hadn't jumped on youtube I would have missed Dave's hat. Very funny guys and a great discussion with Dave on AFDD's. A bit on instructors. I have been cross training and have found the instructors very good and knowledgeable. Only one with a chip on his shoulder and thought we should all worship at his feet. A couple of things that would be good and may not make good topics are fault finding and working out the best approach for installations. Dave mentioned them both during the broadcast and as a newcomer are two areas I am interested in. Anyway, you guys had me in fits during the school run. I had dropped everyone off before listening obviously! Keep it up guys.
I am old enough to remember the wylex mcb recalls and the absolute pain in the arse that was in the early 2000s. That can effect any brand. Bluetooth AFDDs sound cool but as you say the hassle of doing that is no easier than just swapping a recalled product. Plus the security of any connected equipment is a lesson industry needs to catch up with quick. Just look at ev charge points getting hacked. As normal the cost liability for stuff like this will be dumped on sparks. Just like recalls of the past, plastic consumer units that were never fire retardant or any other such fuckery over the years. Make on while the sun shines and swallow the shite when it happens.
I listen on the pod cast in the van mate and only come to TH-cam to comment. And if you ever need someone to come on just let me know I’d always be happy to chat to you guys
Thank you from down here in arse-trailer (Australia) for a flipping awesome podcast. Like Jamie said with Davo Savo videos, these podcasts are a great mix of entertainment and information... Not blowing smoke. It's interesting to hear the state of industry / regs/ gear in the UK.
As someone previously pointed out on Efixx, all that will happen with AFDD's is entire house ring circuits with dedicated radials to fuse connection units for certain appliances. The fact the most likely loads in the UK weren't included ie showers, hobs and ev points screams that the intended idea was to protect against cheap foreign plug in appliances and chargers which have repeated caused fires over the last few years. That said with the EU forcing everyone to use USB C in future much of the issues will cease to exist as power demands from small appliances shrink.
Fantastic podcast guy’s. In my humble opinion David Savery is the God when comes to anything electrical. The two best teachers on you tube are in my opinion Gaz Hayers and Joe Robinson my favourite channels in one David Savery GHS eFixx . I have been called a troll simply because I don’t like a particular fancy brand name of tool any smart technology. If I don’t like something I have a right to say so if I don’t agree with something I have a right to say so . But I never ever get personal and attack anyone one on social media . But what do I know I’am just a humble spark who’s opinion means nothing. Thank you guy’s for another fantastic podcast 👍👍👍
JW is ok but he tends to go to far with his experiment’s ie when he tested the current rating of wago’s,a 20a conductor and he pushes nearly 200amps through it and then said we’ll that’s failed when it melted and in a ball of flames, and there are other he’s done we’re he pushed things way way beyond there working limit . But yes he is very knowledgeable and knows his stuff .
Oh and the video he did a Counterfeit uk plug and dubious flex , the flex was rated 10amp he pushed nearly 170amps through it and yes it melted and Court fire . What the feck did he expect? And don’t forget he doesn’t connect theses things through an RCD in use in the real world his results would never happen under normal working conditions. Because the circuit protection device would kick in . Sorry but when it comes to his silly experiment’s he’s a tit
Over 10 years ago Crabtree/Wylex had a recall on MCB's I think that they paid contractors a fee for replacing them. At Elex Coventry the Hager stand had that AFDD with Bluetooth
Hello lads very interesting discussion on Afdds i agree with you David you only need them protecting bigger load circuits where there is much greater danger of fire resulting in loose connections i think we will see more of these installed in Commercial and industrial applications which i think is a good idea.
Fitted a few Lewden AFDDS last week on a brand new install. One failed within 24 hours, at first i though there was a problem but it would trip with the load cables completely disconected. Picked up a replacement today and it had V2.1 stamped over it.. the faulty one had v2 stamped over it so I sound like Fusebox may not be the only manufacturer with problems.
Prominent dosing pumps can use Bluetooth. They're used all over in industrial applications. I connected to a Bluetooth bath tap the other day! That was a first.
In the old days, when children were not academic, they would be guided towards learning a trade. It would be seen as discrimination in today's society.
Fully support afdds being compulsory! I'm not old enough to remember RCD's being expensive, but we managed to get RCD and dual RCD boards into nearly every home in the country. Any device that could prevent a fire on top of it's rcbo capabilities is a fantastic thing. If we could get these down to 40 quid a device by the time these become mandatory, we should all be pleased.
Funnily enough I’ve fitted one of those dans! Crazy! There’s also shower pumps that have Bluetooth to trigger them too. Have said this before that Nagy is the OG and I totally see David’s point regarding having something to say. 4 years ago there was very little “TH-cam sparks” on here there was Nagy & CRJ, now there are so many about and personally whilst I enjoy a lot of them, it’s clear some are just about putting out content to get sponsored which is cool it’s fine if that’s what they want to do. Like David & Jamie say videos with more substance than style are more engaging & interesting to me personally.
AFDDs are a good idea. They are at the moment over priced and I agree with David about them being used on over 32amps things like showers and cookers. Making an AFDD bluetooth is just asking for trouble later down the line. If you cram 5 or 10 or 15 Bluetooth AFDD in one CU the the bluetooth signal from one device will start to interfere with the other. Also bluetooth is not that safe. The signal can be hacked, overloaded or supressed which means you will lose bluetooth control of your device. Can you image asking a customer to turn the bluetooth Off and On again on an AFDD or asking them to re-pair after a phone update or when they get a new phone.
Great episode as always! Enjoy seeing David on he is without a doubt my favourite “TH-cam spark” if I can refer to him in such a vulgar term.😂 I do mainly domestic & it’s nice to hear Jamie say it’s graft, it really is and the cost of materials is ridiculous at the moment! I can’t see it changing any time soon! Jobbing really does take it out of you these days and I agree the actual graft is only one part the paperwork definitely takes up more hours than being on the tools!
I thought Dave had given up the booze and his replacement vice was cigars. To quote Airplane "looks like I've picked the wrong month to stop glue sniffing" it must be said, Dave was the sober one out of that group, Sam looked like you was going to fall asleep. As always Verso are fantastic and I recommend them, only one question, what is an AFDD? that is a ballsy marketing move.
As you mention TH-cam numbers are going down and audio podcasts are increasing, I always listen via audio pod (Apple) when in the Van between jobs or on dog walks, so I don’t want TH-cam.
What are people's opinions on training centres, when I done my 2391-52 a couple of years ago they basically held your hand in the exams. I had the impression the only thing the test centre cared about was you leaving a review of their centre online,
@@ELECTRICIANSPODCAST You could be right, I've been to two and they were both shit. Good to see Dave back on the channel, surprised he wasn't on the special brew or super tenants 😅
Training centres teach you the basics so I don't think it's a top down situation. If your keen you will always learn. I was fortunate enough to work for a good firm where the lads would always ask you a question, then I would go home and read up on what they had asked. A majority Training centres are shit now though I will say that.
Remote control DBs. Great idea for dealing with non payers. No payment, no power. Also, only suitable qualified persons could access them to install and commission

Surely the top 3 must include John Ward?
Well I'd say
1. Nagy
2. Efixx
3. Monday club

I’m a plumber and I watch every episode. It’s great to see people talking about their industry. ( I secretly wanted to be a spark…)
Nice to have you bro

Davo is comedy gold, need the rusty back box back
Mate I'd love it could you imagine what it would be like with him and Jamie
And JW actually turned up
Not laughed that hard for weeks. Properly funny episode.
Great episode as always
keep the you tube going!! it's great + how else would we see what's on Jamie's computer screen each week :)
Brilliant podcast guys 👍, gotta admit for a moment thought Dave had finally snapped 🤣
😂 great to have Dave on again

As a discussion topic. When SMART meters go dumb.
Brilliant
Triple gold, this one.
What is that showing on Jamie's computer screen
1 advantage I can see of the "smart" consumer units is if you have nuisance tenants so you can remotely kill the utilities feeding the property.
What a crack up fellas 😆 Shame you don't show a beer link or paypal, cos I'd happily send a dollar or 2 👍
Great episode as always! Enjoy seeing David on he is without a doubt my favourite “TH-cam spark” if I can refer to him in such a vulgar term.😂

akw do a Bluetooth shower.
daves video 18th edition is really worth a watch btw
What did David do before becoming a spark?
Professional bummer

Unless I'm missing something no domestic spark will be fitting AFDD's. They will become mandatory in AMD3
great video lads
Jamie needs some smart sensors to bring that light on for 5 minutes

I think it depends what on the test center

Wanted to like this video but the count was at 69 so I'm duty bound to leave it

The smart home industry is worth billions and you lot are stuck in the stone age :)
Wlyex AFDD's are being fitted on all circuits on all boards ForHousing Social Housing Manchester . how long before all Social housing follows them ⚡️
