    I see many painters on TH-cam, and figures being sold on ebay (usually larger scales such as 1/35 - 1/32) with painted in eyes - the horrendous bright white oval with a black slit or dot for the pupils. The result looks odd and "toy soldiery" - what are your thoughts on this? You don't do eyes for 28mm typically right Troy? Thx

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's something that looks great when it's done well, but it's a lot of fuss for 28mm rank and file infantry. The scale difference means you're something like 300 yards away from a miniature standing on a table - you could feasibly make out someone's eyes at that distance, but not particularly well, I'd say. Easier to just skip them!

    I can't get over the fact that the landsknecht, well known for being comparatively rich, is wielding a billhook, a weapon of the utterly poor.

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, you used what worked! A lot of Landsknechte had background as peasants and farmers that signed up to mercenary companies for a comparatively better life. I've had a chance to tour both the Germanisches Nationalmuseum and the Imperial Castle in Nürnberg a couple of times, and while pikes and double-handed swords feature, you'd still see the occasional billhook and halberd in the front ranks. Especially if you were a newer recruit looking to quickly earn that double pay and *thought* you were good enough... easy money as long as you can swing that thing!

    Hi Sonic, First time asking, but could you with any chance do an Ash Wastes Nomads painting video? They are criminally under-represented in youtube and would be fun to see your take on those Necromunda minis :>

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The short answer I'm afraid is probably not any time soon. The trouble with a lot of the Necromunda boxes - or almost anything, really - is that there's nothing in the range available separately, so I have to put out for a whole box I'm going to use just one miniature from. If there's something *similar* I can find an STL for and print, all the better; the techniques are close enough on most miniatures it doesn't really make much difference if it's a GW plastic miniature or something in a similar style. Truth be told, I probably wouldn't paint them much different from how I do zombies or cultists - start off with a Death Guard Green primer, a couple basecoats, drybrush Tyrant Skull or something and then do the metallics. Agrax, boom. 😂

    One a side note - Dude! You've been holding out on us Yanks! A couple of episodes ago, you mentioned Yorkshire Gold Tea. Now of course, being American, I grew up drinking coffee from the time I was nursing a bottle (mom said it helped us when we weren't - uh - "regular") Over the last couple of years of the pandemic, I've gotten back into the habit of having a spot of tea now and again and have consumed more "Tea. Earl Gray. Hot!" in the past two years than I have in my entire previous life. So when I heard you say how excellent Yorkshire Gold is, I got a box from Jeffy B's emporium and Oh-My-God... You ain't kidding! Excellent stuff! Thank you for producing such inspiring videos and passing along great tidbits of advice as well both hobby and non hobby. Cheers, mate!
