I also purchased a used Harley Rake. The drive end was ok but I had to replace the idler bearing. Thanks for making and sharing this video. I will eventually rebuild the drive end and your video will help. By the way, I used a caliper to measure the idle bearing and found a replacement for under $100. The brand name parts are super expensive.
Awesome! I took me bearings apart and was happy with them but I'm sure it won't be long before they need to be replaced too. Did you have the extra idler wheel in the middle like I added to mine or no? Older models didn't have them but newer ones did so I added it to mine.
So if you need to do a bearing replacement, I put a caliper on the old bearing and for my machine, an older S^ model, the bore was 1-1/2"m 3-9/64 O.D. and 0.826 outer ring. Spherial bearing. I purchased a UC208-24 Tritan bearing at Grainger ($41.70). A LOT better than $300 from a Harley Rake parts supplier. I also had a choice of a NTN ZUC208-24 for 144.42. I reused the bearing housing but those are available too. Your model may have a different size bearing but they can all be crossed over with dimensions. The old bearing was seized to the shaft, heat would not get if loose so I had to torch it off. Maybe that will save you some $$.@@NealORussa
EXCELLENT VIDEO! I just bought a used 2022 Cat pr172 power rake and it looks like the exact same machine. This has really set me up with what I should be looking for tomorrow when i check out my gear box. THANK YOU.
Thanks for the comment! Glad it helps you out. Parts were really easy to find from German bliss equipment. Their website had parts diagrams for all different models and most parts in stock and ready to ship. Also I think I mentioned it in the video but if not I went to a local bearing supplier and saved a ton of money when replacing the main drum bearings. They just got calipers and measured it and gave me an identical one.
Excellent rebuild of that Harley Rake. Saw a similar video on a Harley Rake rebuild where the main bearing was destroyed. $300 dollars for one bearing! I like that you repair older machines and attachments extending their usefulness.
Thanks for the comment! I'm thankful my bearings still felt good. $300 is crazy, I've found that you can take almost any bearing to a bearing shop and they can find a replacement for much cheaper. Same thing went for the chain on this unit, the dealer wanted $221 for the replacement chain about 4' long. It is a standard 50-2 roller chain you can get just about anywhere. I got a 10' section of it at Napa for $70. Same goes for seals, I get seals from a hydraulic cylinder rebuild shop for my excavator pins for $2 a piece whereas Kubota wants $15 for the same seal!
Thanks Jeff! It's actually a Milwaukee metal cutting saw. It's a 9" blade I think? Maybe 8". Anyways it's awesome, but not a standard skill saw. It spins slower rpm with tons of torque and toothed blade. It cuts metal like a boss. Check out my video on building a ripper tooth I show it off a lot more.
Hey would love to chat sometime if you have the chance. I was actually in the process of getting things together to do the rt40 mod for mine. I took moved up from the older 30 to the 40 and couldn’t be happier. It is harder to source attachments that actually fit when you have a door. Trust me I’ve been through 4 4N1 buckets and after almost a year of searching and dealer back and forth I finally got a NORM 54” 4n1 that sits flat on the ground arms down all the way and bucket flat like factory. Crazy what we’ll go through for the perfect machine. We do residential grading and landscape. About to trade my machine out for a new one. Mines 9 months old with 700 hours already.
@@Matt-oh9nz hey I don't have all the measurements and details of those parts. But I bought them all from here store.germanbliss.com/GetModelList?brand=2&priorcategory=&category=Harley%20Skid%20Steer%20Power%20Box%20Rake&sub=1
do you find the 40 underpowered for any jobs you are doing? was looking for a 65 but can't find one, can't afford a 75. wondering if the 40 will do for an all purpose farm tool.
I moved up from an older pt30. The rt40 much stronger than that machine. It has a lot of power for its size. I've rented a larger machine and obviously they have more power and can shuttle more materials with a 66" bucket vs this 48". Overall this machine suits me great. It gets into small areas for backyards or smaller building pads. It can also do the big jobs just takes a little longer. The biggest downside is that this machine and other small asv machines have a slightly smaller quick attach so if you have other tractors with regular quick attach they will not work on this machine.

I did not have the extra idler. I will look into that when I eventually rebuild the drive end. My model is a S6D, pretty old.

I am rebuilding one myself. What diameter is the center bushing? Also do you have specs on the rings you bought?

I just ran into the same issue with the spring replacement. Where did you order the funny looking one from?
I ordered from German bliss. Part P604800. It was $24.10
