No matter how you done this job someone will judge you lol at the end of the day if the customer is happy and you get paid it doesn't matter.
another thing u can do to make your edges a little nicer is with your hoe sitting in the driveway and swing over with your bucket cutting edge and on your paint line knife down with your cuting edge of your bucket and just slice through that sod then track a little farther and knife down again and just do that all the way down your paint line. think of it like using a pizza cutter. so that way when you hop back in line to dig like u did in the video that stupid sod wont chunk out on you like it did making the edge look jagged in a few spots.
How much can your dump truck tow?
Towing a trailer? I've never really look for a capacity on the combined weight but it tows that trailer and mini/skid combo just fine. That trailer with those two pieces weighs about 18000. I've towed it with 6 or 7 tons in the bed of the dump truck. Slow going up hills but i got there.

Too expensive i just cut 55 gallon in half using the removable top with band only costing me 35$ for the drum
@@JimmyLCarnie good idea. Just make sure you get a good seal between the top of tank and bottom of drum. You don't want rain and groundwater infiltrating the tank.
Do you have your blade behind you while pushing trees for more counterweight?
@@PrismaticFarm it really depends. The blade isn't heavy enough to act act much counterweight. But when pushing or trenching anytime the front of the machine wants to lift off the ground, if you put the blade down in back it gives 2' more length to the tracks. So when you press down on the ground or tree with the bucket the front of the tracks won't lift. When I'm digging and curling up to break roots or pull heavy stumps then I put blade in front to lengthen front of tracks and keep the rear of the machine from lifting off the ground.
I don’t believe it for 10k!
@@djkilpatrick5256 yea that was a good deal. They're still not a lot more than that even after covid pricing.

@@andyhernandez1476 for sure! There is one that holds a cartridge of staples called the staple wasp but it's about $1300 for the stapler and then you have to buy the special cartridges from them. The one in this video is much cheaper and I've gotten really fast at it.
I have a kubota 040. Bought a new brush cutter, set the auxiliary settings. When I have this valve “off” the blades start spinning but stop when I let go of the switch. How do I get the thumb to work on the right side joystick? Currently it is operating on the left joystick
@@rpuco hey good question! You need to switch the thumb hydraulic cylinder lines to the smaller set of aux line tubes on the stick. If you have dual aux ports on the stick there are smaller lines and larger lines. The smaller lines are for the thumb and are controlled by right joystick. The larger lines are capable of continuous flow and have larger diameter for more flow for mowers and other volume heavy attachments. The thumb needs very little flow rate to operate. Alternatively you could go to the aux solenoids beside the hydraulic tank and swap the wire harness connectors between the two solenoids. That would switch which joystick controls which port. But I would plumb it correctly instead at the stick.
OK, I will look into this. I was trying to do it through the control panel inside the cab, but it was not giving me an option. Kubota recently did a large project and they may have put it together wrong
@ good deal. There is no option to change it in the control panel settings in the cab
@@NealORussa the lines are plumbed correctly at the stick and into the cylinder. That was not touched, but somewhere under the hood they may have switched something, but I really don’t know where the thumb hoses are so I’m not comfortable trying to fix it myself. I will just have Kubota take a look at it since they are the ones who caused the issue in the first place.
This might be very tricky to do. I've been trying to remove it and it's so stuck. I've used gas heat gun, wd-40, hammer, extractor with sliding hammer + extra weight and it's not going to detach even a little bit. Good luck people.
@@juhani6120 if you have the 3 bolts out here is my only other trick. Use kroil penetrating oil. Not wd40. Spray it liberally and wait an hour or so. Spray again. Then use a sharp wedge chisel between the wheel hub and spindle. That will usually crack it open. Go from side to side.
@@NealORussa That's good advice. I did that last time and it worked. One trick is to loosen those 3 bolts a little bit and then hammer all of those bolts. But that also doesnt help this time. Now Im going to try that kroil penetrating oil. Thx for advice!
@ well did you get your wheel hub off?
@@NealORussa Yes I did. 10 ton hydraulic press did the job.
@ wow that stinks but glad you got through it!

@@JoeVolcano42 thanks for the comment! I still use this method every time and now I sometimes put a larger 10k lb machine in this trailer.
@@NealORussa I have a 10' dump trailer, I have a mini-skid steer that fits in it - I just got a mini (3ton) excavator and was wondering if it would fit in the trailer....
@@JoeVolcano42 yea I'm sure you can squeeze in if you swivel the boom and swing the machine a bit like digging alongside a wall.
I just installed concrete ones on mine and it took me like 5 minutes.
Nice! Unfortunately our precast supplier doesn't make riser rings. Some of the precast drainage structure companies around do, but they are much larger inside diameter than needed and unable to be lifted by hand.
Would you prefer to use a wheeled skid steer over tracked for doing gravel work?
I thought about it for gravel work but most people agree that a wheeled skid is a little harder to get grade because they bounce a bit more than a flat track. I personally have no experience grading with a wheeled skid.
Does having the fabric down make it difficult to regrade the driveway in the future?
In my opinion no. There's 6" or so of rock before you get to the fabric. I'd be more concerned with pulling the large rock to the surface than dealing with fabric. When this needs work a quick tailgate spread would be the best bet.
Nice job. I built a similar grading attachment. Works great
@@demartinsm8479 awesome! Thanks for the comment! I like it too for long driveways. But I have also been spoiled with my Harley rake now which is even better.
I wonder why you didn't do both sides of the tank. The folks that recently pumped mine (first time in 28 years) said both sides needs to be pumped every time.
@@f150bft depends how large your tank is and whether it's a standard single compartment tank or whether it has multiple sections and baffles or a separate pump side. For standard tanks our code requires the riser at the outlet side only.
Thanks for the good question though! As far as pumping and cleaning a tank it would be easier if both were accessible. But it's not a necessity in a single compartment.
@NealORussa I didn't realize they came with only one compartment... That makes sense.
About how much does the iDig cost that you use?
@@PrismaticFarm around 10 grand. It is very nice though. I say it's worth it.
What reason do you use the concrete tanks over the plastic ones?
@@PrismaticFarm the concrete tanks are actually cheaper where I live. And they seem to be preferred by most customers. They are also easier to backfill.

Hey Neil, did that whine end up going away after the fluid change? Our 23 model 40 has an occasional little whine to it and I’m tempted to change the fluid early on it as well as the engine. Also, are you going to the 500 hour mark on oil intervals for the engine or sooner?
Hey there! It got a bit better but didn't go away completely. I usually did the engine oil every 250-300 hours. It's a small quantity of oil so not expensive. And the Perkins engine really only liked to run full throttle.

@@samgebuys2193 thanks for the question! I run a 30" tooth bucket when digging the tank hole. I run a 36" bucket with paddle teeth (flare teeth) when digging the lateral lines for 3' chambers.
@ cool! Reason I ask is that I’ve got the same mini and I’m running a 24” bucket on it right now. I want to run a bit bigger bucket, and it looks like yours handles the 30” just fine.
@@samgebuys2193 nice! Yea the kx040 handles the 30 fine. The 36 is good too but a little wobbly all the way out with a full bucket. Works fine for trenching shallow and backfilling though.
@@NealORussaI have a bobcat e42 and am looking to start doing septic. I currently only have a 24” tooth bucket. I will have to purchase a 36” for doing the drain field. I hope the 36” won’t be unstable for digging the tank hole

How does the Harley rake work on crushed packed limestone?
It works pretty good. But it hurts me on the inside to use it on hard packed rock. It just seems rough on it and I don't like doing it. Sometimes I'll rip with the bucket teeth first then Harley rake.
It would have been much easier to buy a pat's quick hitch
I have used mine all summer to burn garlic mustard plants. Works good for burning weeds that grow in parking lot cracks as well!
Awesome! That's another great use! I can't believe the igniter button still works on mine but it does. I've accidentally pulled the wire out of it a hundred times!

@@Fayettepropertysolutions yes this is my property. I mow it every few months. The rt40 does a great job on the slope!
how do you get your clients or work , looking to get into it but dont know how to start to actually get the jobs
Thanks for the question! Some of my first jobs came from Craigslist when it was still a thing. Facebook marketplace is a good spot to get started and some of the local buy/sell Facebook groups.
Two questions Neil, sorry to bug you again 🤣 1) what is the compactor you’re using? 2) if you recall, how long would you say it took you to compact this driveway?
@@Fayettepropertysolutions no problem at all I enjoy chatting on my videos! The compactor is a Weber MT. They're German and better than wacker in my opinion. I can't recall exactly but probably 45 minutes? It always seems like an eternity but when I check my watch it's quicker than it feels. I rent a roller sometimes but the time it takes to go to rental shop, pickup and drop off it's usually less time to plate it. And the plate packs harder than a 36" double drum roller in my opinion. I just think of it like pushing mowing a lawn. And it's not hard to push it moves itself for the most part.
@@NealORussa thank you so much! I really love your content. We’re about to purchase an RT40 thanks to your content
@@Fayettepropertysolutions thanks for the comment! It's been a good machine. I'm about to have to replace tracks at about 1000 hours due to drive lugs on the inside getting worn down/broken off. And I replaced the torsion bar axles around 750 hours which I wasn't happy about. It was owned by a tree service for the first 500 hours and I think they ran it on pavement a lot loading a chipper. Otherwise the machine is nice and has been great for what I do.
Hey Neil, are the windows in the cab glass or poly?
@@Fayettepropertysolutions the side windows and kick panel windows are poly. The door is tempered glass
@@NealORussa awesome, that’s what I figured
@@Fayettepropertysolutions I highly recommend a glass door. I've had poly doors. They scratch so easily and get so dusty and dirty you can't hardly see out of them.
@@NealORussa we would likely be doing some mulching and brush cutter work with ours, so that was the main reason I was wondering. We know not to point the head in a direction that will cause things to smack the door but I would sure hate to have something like that happen with glass. I do hear what you’re saying though
@@Fayettepropertysolutions gotcha. I think the tempered glass would still be strong enough and if it does break it won't shatter and fall into pieces and hurt anyone. It just cracks up. And actually when I bought my machine the glass was broken out from a log from a tree company who used it with a rotating grapple. The new tempered glass window was very cheap from trackloaderparts. I feel like it was less than 200 for glass and new rubber molding. I had a plexiglass door on my previous machine and you could not see out of it with rain or dust on it. I do not recommend.
Nice

Nice job. I’m embarking on a similar project for my own pole barn. Your results look smooth, compact, and level. Did you use any grading tools to ensure level?
I think I just did this one by eye. I have a laser level but didn't bring it out here. Once the concrete guys come for these buildings they throw up corner stakes and wood forms. Then they stringline it to check grade as they place stone.

How thick is your liner? It's a little worrisome that pin holes can develop like that.
@@johnet22 honestly I'm not sure of the thickness. I installed it in 2018. It was really my error no using the foam wedge in the bottom corner or putting a sand wedge there. The bottom corner curve is unsupported and I think most pin holes were probably from sweeping corners with aluminum brush. I've been more cognizant of the corners and haven't had any more leak issues since the repairs. There was really only probably 1 big hole that was causing most the issues. It was about a 3/16" tear.
