Last half an hour, Djokovic looked forlorn, at a loss of ideas and spraying shots all around the court.
Clay court plays directly into Rafa's hands. The little adjustments he makes, constantly making short steps, gives him control over uneven bounces in clay.
On the other hand, Djokovic is unable to use his plasticity on clay courts as he runs the risk of sliding over the slippery dirt and getting injured in the process.
It's therefore a very different story on hard courts, specially indoor ones.

People seem to forget the context of this match. Djokovic was still very far from his best.
He was (unfairly) deported from Australia (even if he had a confirmed valid exemption)
He needed time to get back into form. Had a few big defeats against Vesely, Davidovich Fokina, he almost lost to Djere. He was still trying to recover his best level.
Pretending he was at his peak in this match is ridiculous. He peaked in Wimbledon and towards the end of the season in Paris/Turin. At that point he was still struggling.
That's like saying RG2015 was peak Nadal... it clearly wasn't. Not to take credit away from Nadal but still, he wasn't facing the best version of Djokovic.
