WHY 8MM & SUPER8 HOME MOVIE ARCHIVAL FOOTAGE IS IMPORTANT?
Old Family films shot on 8mm/super8 (sometimes even on 16mm) are an invaluable collection of unseen personal testimonies from our history.
Unfortunately, the condition of these film reels is often dramatic, as they are stored in inadequate places and handed down to individuals who don’t know how to project them.
At Archival Footage Service, we strive to build an archive of family films that is accessible to everyone through our TH-cam channel.

Thanks for the upload. Great time to be alive back then.
❤️
From early 1984 to late 1986 I worked in a building at 19-31 Pitt Street, next to the Goldfields building. They are both gone now. I saw them several times today. Brings back a lot of good memories seeing them again.
After arriving on some cold winter mornings I would go to the conference room on the top level and warm up, looking across to the Harbour Bridge, Circular Quay, and Opera House.
A time before Australian politicians destroyed the cultural fabric of a once great nation.
Yes Australia is unrecognisable now from this video. As a white colonial I am a stranger in my own country
White people built it to be given away to cheap Indian and Asian labour
AUSTRALIAN CULTURE AND VALUES HAVE REALLY CHANGED A LOT IN THE PAST 40 YEARS. The 1950s, 1960s 1970s and even the early 80s were simpler times. People today are always in a rush and impatient. I watch a women at the supermarket today, line up behind an elderly person using the self check-out, growing impatient after about 30 seconds and rushing to another machine that someone had just left, by the time she started processing her few items the elderly person was already finished. Courtesy, politeness and respect are almost non existent. ALMOST, I was all the way on the other side of the City at 6:30am yesterday morning and had a flat tyre. and 4 guys, Islanders or Māori’s jumped out of a truck and changed it for me, and wouldn’t accept money when I offered. So, that is something I shall never forget.
Nice message, thanks for posting....
I’m guilty of that. Especially my local Gloria jean’s coffee outlet. It’s like a mental Warfare ordering a coffee there.
@@majeedtaouk3038 lol I know that exact same feeling
@@shanebriggs1039 don’t tell me you go to same one as me, if so I’m afraid your my sworn enemy 😮
@@majeedtaouk3038 lol no I go to another Gloria Jeans 😝
Culturally, Australia has changed enormously since this film was shot, and not always for the better the people were much friendlier, simpler times. Folks from the'70s era can feel like an alien in their own country now.
They are all gammons
Just like the water flowing under the bridge and the cloudy overcast conditions in the video, the period of the 1970s is gone forever. Just the memories remain and that quite ok. Perhaps the sweetheart you liked then and perhaps still do. You wonder how and where they are today, and do they think of you and smile to yourself. The songs and the music that you enjoyed from the period also linger in your memory bank, you discard those that you didn’t like. Why dwell on subject matter that wasn’t pleasant. Enjoy, as there is more time gone than there is left to reminisce. Just like the water and the cloudy overcast day, although the memories remain just like the video. All the best!
Wow, so very very well said, great comment!
Very nice touch with the Guitar, just enough. It really wasn’t a great time from an economic standpoint. Interest was high and the Real Estate Market was crap, while employment opportunities was difficult to find. Things picked up in 1976 through 1981 then fell in a heap again, when interest rates sky Rocketed out of control. The old cycle of life. We tend to remember the good parts and allow the unenjoyable parts to drift from the memory bank. 30 Years from now, when we 60 to 80 year olds are long gone, the young people of today shall look back on the 2024 and earlier and remember the good old days, as the less enjoyable times have been replaced by then future crappy times. Life!
We’re only one rate rise away from Albo being worse than Whitlam. What a great City Sydney is!
We are very close to being Venezuela thanks to their Commie agendas

It’s like looking at a different country. Different people. Different culture. 😢😢😢 it’s lost forever.
The Union Jack flying over Government House
Shame
3:14 for all those Spaniards arriving in Sydney cove to be greeted by a glorious harbour, beautiful gardens, a wonderful Opera House, and a sign on a building saying ‘SHIT’! Well, why not?
I love Australia is a beautiful Country.❤❤❤
Totally ruined by ARCHIVAL FOOTAGE SERVICE across the middle of the image, the whole way though!
Apologies for the inconvenience caused. Regrettably, our videos have been reused without our consent, leading to this watermark placement. Understanding the frustration, in our latest releases, we've reduced the logo size and placed it at the bottom. We hope this adjustment makes for a better viewing experience. We apologize for any disturbance caused.

Gee thats shocking. A water colour on the video, did it hurt their eyes or something. Apologise for what? Inconvenience? Should have told them, no problem, pay you say $2k and you shall send them a video with no watermark and they can watch it 24/7. If you hadn’t developed it and the person hadn’t taken the time to upload, they wouldn’t have enjoyed it in the first place.

Thank you so much for your support! Your understanding means a lot to us.
I was ten in 1974. The place was mainly Anglo back then.
Now it looks like Mumbai
No Abo flag on the bridge. I was in the navy in 76 at GI
Australia wasn't woke then.
Shows how communism has divided the nation

Sydney is more than just buildings - this could be many cities in the world in 1974. Where’s the people and their pastimes
Maybe someone can splice in some 'now' shots of Darling harbour/Barangaroo 🤔just saying 🤗
