In 1967 I remember the view of the Sydney skyline from the back of our terrace in Glebe, opposite the Valhalla Cinema, where the most prominent building was Australia Square. There were no taller buildings around it.
Great video. My father worked at Grace Bros and I bought my first car - a Torana at John A. Gilbert’s. Both locations are shown as I remember them in the video.
Amen to that, life was so much simpler back then, it’s kind of ironic that with all these gadgets ie. smartphone etc, were more miserable than ever, and COVID19 has totally ruined everything. Sydney and Australia was the best country in the world back then, not now, people want to escape from Sydney.
in 1967 Sydney used to have Cahill theme restaurants, nobody seems to know about; a Hawaiian one at Circular Quay and an Austrian one at Wynyard station. Who can help me with info?
The Island Trader was a tropical themed restaurant at the bottom of Goldfields House (Western end of Circular Quay). Now long gone, Goldfields House as well.
I started my first job in the heart of Sydney back in 1971, at the ripe ole age of 15. I remember the Cahill restaurants, had my first mitia at the Hawaiian one at Circular Quay.
Those streets aren’t so beautiful if they are perpetually filled with cars. There are millions more people using the same roads now. Other modes of transport are necessary...unless you enjoy spending four hours a day in traffic.
Sydney had one of the largest tram networks in the world carrying 1.1 million passengers per day until the morons decided to rip the tracks out in favour of cars. How did that work out?

It seemed so unchanging, like it would go on forever. I miss that world.
My childhood. And all those lovely cars!
Ride-On my boy mine too.
I was 18. Often drove over the Bridge in the rusty FJ from Dee Why to visit my girlfriend in Maroubra.
In my teens rode all round Sydney harbour and across wonderful
breathtaking harbour bridge
then back to Bondi Miller st
Long long ago
I was in Vietnam in 67 missed it all. Thanks for the video
The Sydney I remember from when I was a teen.
It’s nice to know Sydney hasn’t lost all of its charm through the passage of time.
Hmmm well yes not all of it but most of it sadly.
Just most of it im afraid
Nothing like those old Valiant Regal wog chariots that almost every Greek and Italian family bought.
Skippy's bought them, too.
Well, Skippy's who appreciated anything Chrysler produced.✌️
I still can't belive it took them another 6 years to complete the Opera House when it looked like it was 90% done in this movie.
Back when you got home, no one annoyed you with spam calls, cars had personality & us kids could play in the street.

The yr i migrated to Sydney at 5yrs old

1:47 What on earth. That car looks like it's got a whole shop of rugs and mattresses on it.
When the Persian Carpet Warehouse has a closing down sale on, you gotta be quick to pounce. Sometimes those sales only last 25 years.

1968 xt Falcon in one shot
Nice video pity they didn't have 4K around then.
They did: 35mm film, the original 4k. This was only 8mm unfortunately.
Blue and white transport paint didn't start until 1974
Sydney Opera House opened in 1973. In the footage it is far from being completed.
See how beautifully wide central Sydney streets were. Now idiotic bike and bus lanes rule. And the farcical George St tram.

Digital enhancement would do.wonders to the images.
No aboriginal flag on the bridge. Better times
