5:00 Yeah, it's true. I literally only watched the parts of the race where Preach was casting, I don't care about WoW anymore, I watched 'cause Mike's entertaining.
Preach, I really like this content. In the future can you please be more consistent when pausing when commenting on the video? Its very distracting and difficult to hear when you and the video are the same volume and the two are talking at the same time.
I definitely looked when Mike or Alex was hosting and watched them. But mostly because i knew them from older days. The other casters were also enjoyable though.
The viewership dipped during Jailer until it got close, then it spiked as high as it typically does when an endboss is close to falling. I think Max was completely right on the brand change, I absolutely click the recommended list or whatever more than following a channel when I am like a secondary watcher. I have to say also that Echo's team clicked better than I've ever seen a casting team prior from WF... no shade towards any caster previous but just the combination just worked so well for you people.
I watched a LOT of this tace and not even joking the preach effect is real. Edit: the liquid stream was ok overall, but their highlight for me was the moments of all female casters and how much sinergy they had and made it close to preach and co.
If blizz can't realistically test these fights then what's the point? In the end that just means that during the Race, where the most attention possible on the raid is there, is where the beta testing is happening. Have limit / echo ever said if they would prefer slightly easier/lower tuned fights that work as intended. One upside of that would be that you could simultaneously release all difficulties without PTR, for actual blind progress.
The point is that echo/Liquid and some others are simply way above any tester team. You need to have players on the same level as those to test something that challenges them. It's simply the result of this game being so old and keep becoming harder and harder. Max in this video said "as long as it's not a fast race" so yea, they would not like lower tuned fights. We had that on Emerald Nightmare and it got finished in a day, before EU could even log in.
@@TheAssirra maybe I’m just stupid, but what is the point in having content(mythic raid) that is being cleared by 1% of wow population at best? Also it’s not being tested and having multiple bugs doesn’t work in it’s favour either. I for one would absolutely have another Emerald Nightmare if it means that it’s being cleared by a substantial amount of players. Who actually gives a fuck if 40 sweaty nerds are gonna whine that it’s not hard enough?
@@ProtossOP For what it's worth, I do think it's fine to design aspirational content. Ideally, the only driving force behind whether content gets made is if the team wants to make it, because what the team wants to make will be their best work. But for mythic, in practice they aren't releasing their best work. Some fights have unbelievably embarrassing bugs that should not have made it through QA and the amount of nerfing they do for every tier is ridiculous. It's very clear that there is something fundamentally wrong with their process - they have ideas for fights that people love, but they really, really struggle with execution. I think Blizzard should evaluate what's causing these glaring issues and fix them, but a decade of history says that probably won't happen anytime soon. I know Mike says FF and WoW raiding is completely different and that's why Square Enix is able to release bug-free and well-tuned raids, but I just don't buy it. There is no world where a 25% nerf to a boss's damage should ever be needed, no world where a boss is unintentionally killing pets or cleaving players, no matter how your raid is designed.
They haven't had internal teams capable of beating the top difficulty bosses in progress mode, fair and square, for a long time, maybe ever. There are few people capable on clearing this stuff at RWF pace and RWF gear level and these people most likely participate in RWF. That doesn't mean they can't test the encounters, they just do it with dev tools. Tuning based on data analysis is fine and has worked for years.
@@ProtossOP Ok, you are completely wrong here. Having easier raids like EN is not going to get more people. It's not the difficulty that is scaring people off. The majority are scared off by the organizing and such, everything but playing basically. Also, you seen the viewership in this very video? So many more people will see this content now than the the 1% now it's getting streamed over what it used to be. The same people that would have a horrible race (like BoD before Jaina for instance)
If you’re gonna react to a video, I would suggest pausing to make commentary. Really hard to understand when there are multiple voices talking over each other.
4:54 can confirm, I only watched Echo whenever you and Alex were on and once your shift ended I would switch to Max's PoV. The other casters just don't quite have the strength of personality and natural chemistry that you guys have. PS: You're downplaying and attributing your impact on viewership down to the scheduling of streams and raiding but consider that your following is SIGNIFICANTLY higher than the other casters (apart from Fatboss). There's a reason for that. I think all the casters did a great job even if I personally didn't enjoy them as much as you and Alex, but don't sell yourself short :D
Absolutely agreed. Ex mythic raider here, I LOVE hearing the comms of players in the game, but from the light hearted playful side (Max's stream), but I absolutely left that stream to watch Echo whenever Preach/Alex were on.
Eh, I can understand this mindset of "if you aren't first then second doesn't matter" but at the same time, when it was all said and done...the teams that finished ahead of Liquid overall just had a better strategy. They won a marathon because Liquid tried to sprint and fell apart at the end. It diminishes the accomplishments of the 2nd and 3rd place teams when a first-place contender is in such a bad state that they have to stop everything they're doing and recover from fatigue, but the contender says "yeah we could've kept going but decided not to". Second and third place didn't have to stop for so long, did they?
every guild used echo strat after the kill. if your boss said ''ok, your done, you can go home and finish the rest of it later'' would you still stay and do it? the gap between top 2 guilds and top 5 is so big that theres nothing disrespectful with saying that. like five(5) people will remember method got world second the moment 10.0 raid is out. thats just how competitive sport goes. or do you remember who placed 2nd or 3rd when usain bolt won olympics?
@@ullakeskinen8895 People who watched this race will absolutely remember that Liquid didn't get second because of the circumstances. In the future people who didn't see the races this expac will see a previous wf guild fall to second and then fifth place and then after some digging find out that they burnt out on the tier and went home when no one else did. That's just how history works.
@@Breadumi other guilds also stopped day raiding beside weekends. Sure it might be said on first tier of next expansion, but does it really matter? If anything liquid gets more attention out of this. We will see on next tier did liquid lose viewers and did method gain viewers. Everyone who follows rwf know it's 2horse race to win and 3horse race to 3rd.
I think Preach underestimates how much he adds to the casting team and how many viewers he brings, he creates such a fun atmosphere even if we're watching Echo's triple digit splits.
I tuned in during split runs for both Echo and Liquid. The Echo production were genuinely trying hard to keep the stream entertaining with competitions, giveaways, and promotion codes, even if the split runs were boring to watch. I tuned in to Liquid and the casters were as bored as I was rambling about random topics lol.
that was the most important thing to me, i had the stream as background and it had its moments, checked some of the split streams for liquid and some of the casters sounded like they were held at gun point xD
Let's put it this way. I'd rather watch any of the echo casters than liquid ones. I actually started with liquid and had to leave and go to max because they were not my style. But I loved listening to you guys shoot the shit while also being professional. Liquid felt like I was listening to nfl sports casters.

I flicked back and forth between the casts for Liquid and Echo depending on what time of day and I think Liquid had the edge in production when it came to overlays etc by a decent margin. Caster wise I'd give a slight edge to Echo but both were very well done.
I’m NA but find Liquid’s casting extremely hard to stomach, particularly when a certain person is at the desk. I watched Echo’s stream mostly and occasionally tuned in to Scripe but when I wanted to switch to Liquid I went with Max. Between the bad casting, what I feel is a clumsy rebranding, and Max lying about the FFXIV raids they did not-so-blind; I’ve found myself pulling for Echo.
man watching Max whine this much about the longevity of the race, specially when they were behind, which was 2 days, is kinda of annoying, since that XIV thing i kinda soured a bit to Max too, this one is just the icing, thankfully they all agree with a global release, because hearing him say it is only fun when they are ahead when they are ahead by default is annoying
Max was blind in xiv. He was doing an easy boss and easily spotted the mechanics needed to complete it. Just because one mediocre player makes a terrible video "proving" that max wasn't blind doesn't mean he wasn't blind. Yall are way too gullible. Max is a world class raid leader with years upon years of blind experience. You really think it's weird that he tries random stuff to figure things out?
@@Sammysapphira Yes, there is a whole video about this, many of the top raiders in FFXIV could tell he was lying because it happened so many times that people found a pattern to his bullshit. This is no joke. You also forget that Echo was also blind progging FFXIV and they never had these "genius 300 IQ" moments where they figured the exact meta strat that was refined by the community after hundreds of wipes and successful attempts, in a fucking blind prog scenario, after boosting to a brand new game, skipping years of raiding content.
@@Sammysapphira you are smoking a whole lot of copium if you think they were picking all that up blind. He should of just been honest and said he watched a bit of the bosses or something. It made him look like an idiot.
I followed echo and scripe, and prefered echo stream because of the insight because i don't play wow. And max channel only pulled ahead when echo stream passed to BDGG because echo was always ahead even when Limit was ahead in the race
Personally had the echo stream up for hours while at work in the US. Didn’t like the liquid stream at all. Viewership was consistent regardless of who was casting.
It's really good publicity a long race to world first loads of people looking at wow so from a PR perspective seems really nice. So why shorten the race?

Watched the first 7 minutes but I can't continue. preach constantly talks over max and that would make my brain explode in 47 minutes. Is it like this only at the start or it gets better?

Preach, just a small feedback on the video. It is really hard to listen when you dont pause and just talk over the video. I think you should really pause when you want to say more than a couple of words.
Never been into watching sports of any kind. If you dont have a horse in the race kinda thing, probably be different if I knew someone on one of the teams.
Aw man, I really wanted to see Preach's take on Max's statement a little further in regarding WeakAuras. Likely agreeing with him, but still. WA bloat has gotten real.
Yeah that was the most interesting part of Max's Q&A, since it's such a change for him. It's really good that the high-end WoW guys are (thanks to FF experiences for sure) starting to realize how unfun and unnecessary it is to have the game be designed around WA. I mean, surely it's the worst for them too, as most of us just DL a pacage, MAYBE tweak it a little and go. For them, they need to constantly be updating them in between pulls. Ugh.
when echo start doing ff's raid i was very skeptical bc of max and his so called "blind prog" and his egotistical streaming persona, but after watching echo guy for sometimes i instantly becomes a fan, end up watching their wfr for a fair bit despite not knowing jackshit about wow, and also bc of preach's god-tier casting too.
Wtf with that "blind runs" hate anyway . I did tried out ff14 and also had to read on every single guide before setting foot into any dungeon and raid , or else facing the fear of me fuck up the group leading to wipe.

NA Echo fan here. I watched the Liquid stream here and there to check their progress during the race. Their stream seemed more "professional" in terms of explaining things and talking about the game and just the energy. Normally that would be a good thing but actually I preferred Echo's stream and the laid back fun attitude. Even as an Echo fan I'd normally watch Zaelia's stream during the race. But this race I had both on because the Echo stream was so entertaining. There's something about that chill and fun energy that is just so WoW. This isn't CS or other more established esports so the more lighthearted fun content was a really good fit. I love that no matter how big the RWF there's still this fun gamer spirit to all of it. It would be a shame if you guys sat at the desk the whole time being technical about the game for 16 hours a day. The synergy between the casters felt so genuine. Then there's the amazing production team pumping out really great music and recap videos. The most enjoyable RWF production I've seen so far. You guys were amazing!
Preach now saying it does not matter it is how it was read about the tweet yet he is the biggest spreader of what was read in to that tweet mentioning it several times each and every time he was on screen. No other caster mentioned it even 25% of the times as preach. And most of those times was on the back off preach mentioning it to them. Preach is the literal reason it was spread around so much he is patient zero for the people who spread it to other places. Interesting how that rule applies to others but not yourself preach.
all i've learned this race, once again, is that watching Max's stream was incredibly entertaining and funny while watching any echo stream was annoying af since their visible fanbase in chat is unbearably toxic. like sportsfans, almost. and i'm an EU player. and after Gingis roid rage after Liquid killed an obviously bugged anduin fight, i kinda know why.
Obviously if you are only in max chanell u wont see the toxic NA people, they come from both sides believe me. Its the most cringe shit about RWF, just enjoy the fkking ride and know both guilds are a league or two above everyone else
Its highly suspect how Max's stream viewership spikes from 2k to 40k during the WFR. His twitch chat is dead as fuck, even rogerbrown's 2k viewer chat was more active Why would anyone watch him repeat what the weakaura and the raidleader is saying ? Max needs to be a bit more subtle about the viewbotting next time, too many people have caught on this from castle nathria

Why look for the first reason to dislike somebody and race to the comment section to make sure everybody knows that you disapprove of them or their actions as if some you’re some sort of paragon of virtue yourself? “You’re talking over Max!” - it’s a long video as he said in the beginning and Mike wants to get through it efficiently to keep his own schedule. Makes logical sense “Max lied about blind progression” - Even if he did you’d be lying if you said you’ve done otherwise. Politicians lie nonstop and you re-elect them so stop pretending that matters. “Disrespectful to 3rd - 5th” - Its a two horse race to world ‘first’ so if ‘first’ is your criteria for success and you miss your mark then why continue to push the team harder than you already have? The other teams will finish in the order they would have it’ll just be +/- 1 depending on when Liquid would kill it. The race those guilds ran is not effected by Liquid’s decision as they’re still the same in terms of capability relative to the top two as they always were. “Quit before Echo got the kill” - People would say shit regardless of when a guild stopped. Echo’s officers said they’d have done the same in the reverse situation confirming the two guilds are of the exact same mentality when it comes to the race and the health of the players. People act as if Mike, Max, Liquid or Echo should hold them in high regard when you’re just text on a screen. The truth; you support them and they’ll appreciate the comment, if not then the nasty comments mean jack shit to them. You appreciate the Ferrari, turn away from the shit box and don’t really care either away about who is driving (excluding the Holy Trinity of Clarkson, Hammond & May). Supportive comments are the Ferrari, nasty comments are the shit box and the people commenting are the drivers except nobody here is Clarkson, Hammond or May

Sadly despite preach being on echo's stream I just can't watch it due to the whole Josh incident. Edit: Yes I'm aware it was 'method' and almost all those people left and just left and made echo.
watched the vod and was extremely sad to see the toxicity towards max and everything he said, was not really used to this after the near decade of watching preach. I understand eu/na thing and am not entirely sure the ff14 drama, didnt see it live but from i understand a video was made showing that max could not have been doing blind progression and only showed clips whereas the other side argues contectually in max's stream every thing he did was in line with being blind, don't really see the problem and its left up to interreptation but even it is true seems like its mostly being used as an excuse to bash on the guy when hes answering Q&A for the community and explaining their entire experience and should be commended for speaking pretty calmly and reflectively when his guild lost after a months long race. Really sad to see that I don't think max/preach can do any content together after what max said on stream. I loved seeing the post RWF roundtable preach hosted and it seems after community sentiment and eu players/fans actions that i doubt it will happen which really sucks because I don't really care about any fandom or side but love the competition and thought both guilds played insanely well at different points and all the players should be proud. Really sad about the negativity was extremely jarring after seeing so many positive community interactions the pg community has had during ff14 :(
Max is so annoying it's beyond anything I can stomach. He is the person that keeps saying that global release doesn't matter, since "they beta test bosses" and "the other races were always really close". Buddy, if the other team starts half a day later and it's still close, that doesn't mean that it's fair. It means that you wouldn't stand a chance with a global release. Another thing about him saying the g.release doesn't matter; "Being behind is extreeeemely mentally taxing". This is what EU has to deal with EVERY SINGLE RACE. Other guilds raided for longer, harder and weren't burnt out. Watching the Liquid streams was hard, since they were just goofing around constantly. Also huge disrespect from him towards Method, Pieces and other top 5 guilds. No, it's not winning or losing just because you gave up. I feel like this was a strategic decision and didn't want to "lose" but "win by putting mental health first", which is a straight hit with the NA crowd. It must have left a sour taste in EU's mouth by Liquid just giving up and not atleast wait untill Echo kills it to call it quits. It's always the same with him, he is so high on smelling his own farts that anything that comes close to bursting his bubble he starts fabricating stories, excuses etc.
That's an overly simplistic perspective. It's an absolute fact that the European team gains the benefit of learning from all the mistakes the US team makes and can then approach the boss with those lessons learned and ZERO fatigue for having learned them.
This. 100% this. Even his biggest competition from EU and NA laugh at him cause he has made some stupid things lately. It was funny to read Chinese WoW forums and they were constantly laughing at Max's expense

Race to first or not, I only watched Echo and scripe because of how much fun they had in the FF14 raids. Max and 'elephant herd' just playing p1~4s like a wow andy just made me puke. I'm so glad team Echo got the jailer first.
He needs to pause before he starts talking over the video he’s watching. Nothing more annoying than 2 loud voices clashing over one another. It makes it hard to understand either one.
For the love of god, make tournaments realms with "overtuned" version of bosses to bash their heads in and let the "normal" mythic raiders have the version of the boss that we usually have the last month before the next raid comes out. Their whole system of gradually nerfing raids and fixing mechanics feels so bad and is one of the reason I quit raiding and then later WoW in general. Less than 1% of player even get cutting edge and even those players never see the original bosses....
To be fair the ranking of world # (world 1000, 500, etc.) is also fun. It's nice to try and push towards a harder version of bosses while still feeling like CE is accessible even with how bad we/the-group-I'm-in currently is. I get that that's the 1% of the player base but... Pushing for something is fun, if the jump is "okay you either do this version that's as easy as we'll allow" or "go try world first bosses" feels steep.
As smart as Max is, I still find it hard to take him seriously anymore after the whole "blind savage" debacle. Lost a lot of respect for him after that.

I really dig the RWF, I just wish they could get rid of all the RMT crap surrounding it. Get rid of the BoEs please for the love of god.
Second and third place didn't have to stop for so long, did they?
its incredibly disrespectful to Method, Skyline and Pieces
Its sore loser mentality.
every guild used echo strat after the kill. if your boss said ''ok, your done, you can go home and finish the rest of it later'' would you still stay and do it? the gap between top 2 guilds and top 5 is so big that theres nothing disrespectful with saying that. like five(5) people will remember method got world second the moment 10.0 raid is out. thats just how competitive sport goes. or do you remember who placed 2nd or 3rd when usain bolt won olympics?
Preach diff is a real thing kekw
You should have tuned in to Max’s or another raider’s stream when they were doing trivia during splits. That shit was hilarious.
Let's put it this way. I'd rather watch any of the echo casters than liquid ones. I actually started with liquid and had to leave and go to max because they were not my style. But I loved listening to you guys shoot the shit while also being professional. Liquid felt like I was listening to nfl sports casters.

@@Sammysapphira lol
@@Sammysapphira Yes, there is a whole video about this, many of the top raiders in FFXIV could tell he was lying because it happened so many times that people found a pattern to his bullshit.
Ugh.

You guys were amazing!
wasnt close in terms of the casting teams and their like whats the word like the way they play off each others, echos was bis

Makes logical sense
“Max lied about blind progression” - Even if he did you’d be lying if you said you’ve done otherwise.

Preach aint the best reactandy, talking over the vid constantly 😅
