This knife is a good deal at $175 or so. Frankly, I love FRN! It is light, essentially indestructible, and cheap. My main priorities are a well designed blade made of good steel on a well constructed knife that will last. The cheaper this can be done, the better.

USA made with great steel for the price makes it a definite winner. Love the blade shape and have no problem with the FRN scales. Thanks for sharing Wayne!

Just got mine the other day, and I'm very impressed with the quality and feel of the frn handle!
Excellent overall, centering, action, and premium feel for plastic as I'd expect from Microtech. They blow away every other brand that attaches premium steel with plastic handles that I own. The Spyderco Rex45 Manix 2 lightweight with it's frn handle and similar lock, simply just can't compete with fit and finish, feel and lock action/ease.

I thought the handle was surprisingly sturdy also. And for the price Microtech tax and all $175 is pretty reasonable taking everything into consideration.

I normally dont buy knives with injection molded scales they tend to feel cheap, just my prsonal opinion, but i just got my MSI the other day and i like it, it feels much more solid than other LW scales and i was totally ok with the price especially once i had it in hand, if it was Benchmade they'd want $350 for it

Good to know! I actually don't hate Spyderco's FRN, so if this is better than that I should be good to go. Suggestion: to get rid of the sharp edges on the inside part of the scales, just take a small piece of sandpaper -- something like a 1x1" square, somewhere in the 300-800 grit range, and run it up and down those edges to create a small chamfer. Even a tiny bit makes a big difference.

I just watched another video review of the Microtech MSI where there was a gap ( like yours ) forward of the crossbar lock buttons. When the knife was disassembled it was found that the crossbar lock did not travel far enough to secure the blade. In fact, the lock failed and the reviewer suffered a bloody injury..!!

I absolutely luv, both, of mine. I bought mine, with Polymer Handles, because Original Goat plans on making Titanium Handle Scales for them. And, that, to me, will perfect this Model. I absolutely luv them. And, after having and using them, I must admit, the Polymer MSI has grown on me. I actually, really like it. It's light and easy to SDUEDC. I still want to make one of mine Titanium. But, I will kep the one I've been carrying Polymer. These are great Folders that I would recommend to all that absolutely luv Cross-Bar Lock Types. :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)

I also picked up a different civivi sentinel strike a couple weeks ago and I'm very happy with it. I mean, it's illegal to carry in my state so it's a glorified letter/package opener.
Funny thing about it was trying to find a super comfy hold position with it and didn't find it till holding it tactically.

I purchased the FRN version and love it. The blade is crazy sharp. I am not 100% convinced that the ram lock is designed for heavy duty use. I have watched videos of blade closing on guy’s hand after taking a blow to the blade. Probably 95% of people use it as a standard pocket knife. The other 5% take it camping and beat the crap out of it. Just my opinion.

Insane? Well, since no one has that steel or innovative lock, $175 is super reasonable. Start pricing Spyderco’s or ZT’s and especially Benchmade and see how the price compares. Benchmade wants $180 for a rubber handle Redoubt model in D2. For a USA made blade $175 is a great deal.
