I like to think of Not! As complementary reading, as in one of his author notes, Ookubo said he created it to insert world building in a more organic way and not infodump right in the middle of the main story, because he hated when other manga did exactly that. He received a lot of fanmail asking for the logistics of Shinbuzen and also, since he was watching K-on at the time he decided it would be a slice of life with cute girls to make it easier to digest and it was something that the market was embracing around those years. He was simultaneously still writing the last arc of Soul Eater at the time and considering how dense everything was getting, he didn't wanted to overwhelm the reader with yet another action packed story with lots of stakes you have to keep track of. That's why is so short too, he just wanted to tell a lighter side story, and get to talk about how the world of SE worked in general, he could've easily milked the shit out of the concept but once he was done, he was done.
Yup, I think he shouldn't have slipped as much battle in there. It didn't work. But now we have a third gorgon sister who is kinda meh. Otherwise it could have been a nice slice of life spin off for world building. Following the normal people of that world instead of the heroes.
I had fun with Soul Eater Not! I get *why* it's so hated, but at the same time... It feels overblown. It's not terrible, it's not as good as Soul Eater, but it's still not that bad
I like the concept of Soul Eater Not in the sense that is feels like an animated ‘self insert-y’ fanfic! :0 But overall, I can’t say I personally accept it as a part of the canon Soul Eater universe haha🥹🫶🏻 I remember a few years ago my friend and I rewatched it and noticed how the timeline of certain events don’t really line up, my friend got so heated about it haha. I mostly just don’t like how they made everything shiny and moe imo! And I LOVE the sketchy and stretchy (and edgy) animation/style of the original! :] Great video btw!! :D
bro this vid made me remember how sad i was after finishing soul eater (especially that dog shit ending ep) and discovering soul eater not thinking it was a sequel and got really happy bro disapointed is an understatement i was DEVASTATED like that one anime boxer meme from tomorow's joe lmfao
not gonna lie, i kinda like soul eater not (I would have liked it more if the romance scenes between girls had been reduced, except between Kim and Jaqueline)
I believe Soul Eater Not is not canon to the regular series. 1 there is another survivor of the Star Clan even though Black Star is supposed to be the last one. 2 Liz and Patty were not on probation and the story on how they met Kid is different. 3 Sid's death is also different. 4 Death City never had an airport and bus line. 5 EAT and Not classes were never mentioned in the original. 6 the events are different. 7 Sid was already a zombie and he never taught another class. 8 Death City never had a police force. 9 Shala was never mentioned in the original and the incident also never happened. 10 Liz and Patty were already partners with Kid before him turning into a zombie. 11 Kim was never mentioned as a witch and she was already partners with Jacqueline. 12 the 3 main characters were also never mentioned. 13 They turned the DWMA into more of a high school than a training academy.
2 Yes that is how they met Kid and it would make sense there would be a transition period between the two sisters lowered their guard around kid. 5 We primarily followed the EAT class so it would make sense why we wouldn’t really hear too much of the NOT class as they’re primarily civilians. 11 this was a detail that wasn’t touched upon in the anime due to the series over taking manga material but Kim was a witch, plus this takes place a whole year prior. 12 + 13 NOT class is mostly for civilians learning to hone their abilities not for combat purposes, so it would make sense they would interact much with our main cast along with there being a general education course for those who don’t want to fight ki shins and witches. 4 + 8 the school accepts kids from all over the world of different ages along with the city have civilians and non combatants living there, so a public transportation system and every day law enforcement isn’t a surprising
@@BlueBlazeKing If it takes place a year before Maka and Soul would have graduated since in the first episode they were brought in as senior students. Maka's first witch encounter was with Medusa not Shaula. The one with the demon sword. She didn't know it at that time.
1) Akane is a character that exists in the main Soul Eater series 2) We do not know if Liz and Patty were on probation - also the fact that how they met up with Kid is presented differently every single time it is shown is a bit of a meme in of itself - happens in the main series too. 3) All we know about Sid's death from the original series is that he got his head impaled by a statue - which does happen in NOT 4) We have no reason to assume Death City does not have an airport and a bus line - seeing as the students are sent out on missions around the entire world. The first encounter with Crona happens in Italy, Second arc starts in Check Republic, The nidhgog on the Baltic sea - and Shibusen is located in the US 5) They weren't relevant to the main series - Soul Eater proper focuses on some of the best students in the whole school, we outright meet Maka when she has already completed her quest and is trying to create a Death Scythe - despite that she feel comparatively weak as our only point of reference are other top tier meisters, NOT shows us the people who are... not that. 6) ????? 7) Sid was the previous teacher before Stein 8) ????? 9) Wasn't relevant to the plot 10) This one is actually true. But clearly, Ohkubo retconned it in his attempt to improve the world-building of the series. 11) Yes she was it was a MAJOR plot point. (Also Not explains why the hell Jaqueline followed Kim after the reveal dropped - Jaqueline was a carboard cutout in the original series, we see her human form like 2 times with 1 speaking role that I remember) 12) The 3 main characters of NOT make cameo's as background characters, but are not talked about as they are not relevant to the plot of the potential end of the world 13) Yeah... that's what NOT is for. For people that need to learn to control their powers to live in the society, but they aren't the kind of people willing to kill and be killed

The worst part about the existence of the anime version of Not, is that it made the chances of "Soul Eater Brotherhood" happening less likely.
