    I have to say, after receiving mine, I was very dissatisfied with it. I immediately returned it. I don't think the noiseless pickup technology is there yet... the guitar sounds neutered compared to a true Tele. For some reason, the review videos are overwhelmingly positive, as well as most of the comments I've read. I returned my American Professional 2 to upgrade to the Ultra, thinking it would be the right decision -- my Pro 2 was having some weird grounding issue that I felt was not acceptable for a brand new instrument, so that pushed me over the edge to give the Ultra a whirl. In my opinion, the Pro 2 is a much better guitar. I find the neck on the Ultra to be too thin and I personally don't like the compound radius. The neck on the Pro 2 was heavenly, it felt so good in my hand. I just reordered it because I loved it so much.
    As for sound, I found the bridge pickup on the Ultra to lack the Tele growl and twang, and the neck pickup didn't have the beautiful, full sound that it should. Again, these review videos are misleading with their audio -- you really need to hear it out of your amp yourself. And, while the new body contours are comfy, I don't find them to make the guitar magically more playable, and I think the lighter body (due to less material) has a negative impact on the tone. I'm also convinced that the traditional 3-saddle Tele bridge is a huge part of that classic Tele sound. I know that this is simply my opinion and that many do love this guitar, but I wish I had paid more attention to the few negative reviews that there were out there. Also, the metal pick-guard (I got the Texas Tea color) is like nails on a chalkboard when you scrape it the wrong way with with your pick or fingernail. 100% no!
    The Pro 2 does have a slightly sculpted neck heel, which I love compared to the joint on my traditionally contoured Strat, but other than that, the body design is the classic tele shape. The pickups of the Ultra can't hold a candle to the Pro 2, and I would say the same for the neck. Also, you still get the additional "Series Mode" option when in the middle pickup selection position (push-push toggle on the tone knob). For the Ultra, you're essentially paying an extra $450 dollars for a guitar that doesn't sound as good, and has some flashier hardware and body designs that a lot of us Fender fanatics are not big fans of. If you're looking to spend this type of money on a guitar, I would highly recommend that you save yourself a few bucks and either get the Pro 2 model (you won't be disappointed) or go Custom Shop and design your own guitar, assembled by their top tier builders.

      Agree wholeheartedly. Been playing for 30 years, play professionally, and never returned a guitar until I bought the American ultra. Literally only kept it for one week because I simply could not get any sound out of it that I would consider useable in a professional setting. Normally I would think that it just didn’t suit me, but every other player I had try it said they hated it as well. Did a recording with it and the client asked me to redo the part with any other guitar.
      Like you pointed out, it’s very strange that all the online reviews seem to love this guitar when every person I know that has played it or heard it in person hates it. Shame really, it seemed so promising…

    • @herritymusick1758
      @herritymusick1758 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SchmittySchfin I played it for about an hour and, right away, I knew it wasn't going to fit the bill, especially having played on the Pro 2 for a while prior. When I demo'd The Ultra in Guitar Center it was obviously too noisy in the store. It wasn't until I ordered one and played it in my studio that I could tell it was big no. I agree, it seemed so promising. I feel like some people don't want to admit that Fender missed the mark here... I'm not a purist and I can appreciate evolution, but with musical instruments you also need to stay true to what made them sound so good to begin with.

      I've only ever read positive things about the Ultra Telecasters. Even on the forums from real life owners. The pickups are preference ultimately and an easy change. For me, the Ultra stuff is exquisite. I have two Ultra Telecasters, a Strat and the JM.
      The thing is, if you approach the Ultra as if it's a classic Telecaster. You will be disappointed. It's a modern interpretation. You have to accept and embrace it for what it is rather than what it isn't.
      I guess that's the upside of a range, there's something for everyone from vintage spec to modern. Sounds like you've found bliss with the AP2. A quality guitar for sure.

    • @herritymusick1758
      @herritymusick1758 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@czechplastik I know that it's ultimately preference... for what it's worth, I really liked the Ultra Luxe Strat that I played at Guitar Center. I, too, scoured the web for review videos and comments and saw almost entirely positive review, which is why I didn't really pay too much attention the couple of poor reviews that I did see. One thing I will say is that I think the metal pick-guard on the Texas Tea finish that I got is a bad idea... it looks super sick, but when your fingernail or pick scrapes it, it's quite unpleasant, and for some people it would not be easy for them to switch out as they don't have any experience tinkering with guitars. I'm curious if Fender will stick with that or not...
      I knew the Ultra was a modern guitar but figured it was worth a shot, but I fell in love with the classic Telecaster sound and felt like the Ultra just didn't quite cut it. I think they really nailed it with the Pro 2 series, a good balance of subtle improvements to the design and circuitry but still holding true to what you would expect from the iconic Tele.

      @czechplastik ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@herritymusick1758 absolutely fair comments. I'm glad you found something that did work for you in the end. Interestingly you can select Texas tea as a finish option in the mod shop now. Definitely going to build a Jazzmaster with that finish. Peace ✌️
