Some recent vinyl finds from my local flea market. This time, mostly sealed records, and some more exciting than others. Check 'em out and let me know what you think!
Awesome video Rob. Sealed $1 records is awesome. Very nice Shankar lps. Awesome Talk Talk lp, you don't see them on vinyl too often. Have never seen the Tony Banks lp, looks interesting indeed. Rock n Roll HS takes me back in time (pretty much to HS!).
@EoLoVoX You have actually given me more records than I have sent out to fellow members. Your a very generous guy Rob and I will not forget that. I am not blowing smoke, I sincerely mean that. Thanks again~ TOR
@NezbitOfficialBand - Both of those were happy finds, for sure. I have a decent Ramones collection as it is, but never had a copy of R&R HS. Thrilled to find it!
@Paneeks1960 - Tell me about it! I feel that whole old age thing creeping in every day. So glad to hear you've been enjoying the Beach Boys album, Rob. As I mentioned, there were quite a few BB albums in the boxes that I got, only several of them were pretty beat up. I rescued the ones that were in good shape, gave them a bath on my VPI machine, and sent 'em your way. Don't feel like you need to do a video, though. Knowing that you're happy with them is plenty thanks enough.
@kingsdrummer - I was thrilled to find many of these, Gil. I was stoked when I found the Tony Banks album; that's one that I once owned and jettisoned at some point. Then, when I found the 12" single for the song with Fish, I knew I was having a good day!
I had the Less Than Zero Soundtrack on cassette. A particular favorite is the Bangles version of Hazy Shade of Winter. I seem to have a lot of soundtracks on vinyl: Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, Risky Business, Midnight Cowboy and Deer Hunter. This weekend I scored an older album with the composer for many Hitchcock films, Bernard Hermann. Oh, I also finally found a copy of A Clockwork Orange which has been very hard to come by. (There were two this time).
Those Tony Banks records look great. I remember that song he did with Fish. It was a cool song. I believe he did that song with Genesis on the Altlantic Records 40th Anniv. show with Phil on vocals. All those records look in great shape. Cool score !!
@Vinylbop - I like Bruce Cockburn and have several of his other albums. I definitely agree with you about the 1976-85 period. I'll have to see what you mean by "spacey sound" on this one. The music I used here was from a band called Fridge, with a track I really like called, "Drum Machines and Glockenspiels". Fridge was Kieran Hebden's band before he started working under the FourTet moniker.
It's a track called "Drum Machines & Glockenspiels" from a band called Fridge, from their album 'Happiness' ... Fridge was Kieran Hebden's band before he started working under the FourTet moniker.
Like that Less Than Zero LP, Poison does a great cover of The Kiss track Rock n Roll all night. Also, great that you found a sealed Rock n Roll High School. I'm a really big Ramones fan.
@Paneeks1960 - Oh man, Rob, wouldn't some sealed Morrissey or Smiths have been a fantastic find?! I'm pleased with what I found, though. So hard to beat sealed records in budget bins. By the way, I now have two copies of that symphonic Tull album. Want one? TOR/Chicago
What incredibly nice things to say. Thanks so much! Thanks for watching, too. I appreciate it. From the Peter Gabriel days, I would recommend either 'The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway' or 'Selling England By The Pound'. If you're more interested in the Phil Collins era, I would go for 'A Trick of the Tail' or their live opus, 'Seconds Out'. Of course, those are just for starters! ;-)
There are those pitfalls of vinyl, but it's still my favorite format for music. At some point, I figured out that skipping sometimes had to do with stylus tracking force. When I made sure that was adjusted to the specs of the stylus that I was using, I had a lot fewer records that skipped! I bailed on a lot of vinyl when CDs came in, something I regret to this day. I've managed to reclaim much of what I sold back then, and I will be forever thankful that I didn't sell it all!
@wertsdb71 - Thanks for the assistance, Blake! Do you happen to know if his instrument is called a violin, a fiddle, or something else entirely when it's being used in traditional Indian music? The only time I tend to leave sealed records sealed is when I already have an open copy in my collection. If not, which is the case with many of these, I tear them open with no small amount of glee!
I should pick up that reissue. Bought the Spirit Of Eden reissue but that's it so far. I have a really clean, original pressing of The Colour of Spring that sounds great. I'd love to compare that to the remaster. Yes, Confrontation! Great album. My daughter and I have been talking about doing a Bob Marley video some time, but we just don't ever seem to get around to it. I'm proud that she's a Marley fan, and I'm glad to hear that you are, too!
I was thinking the exact same thing...I was watching your videos and thinking this guy could have been my best pal...I never even purchased cassettes growing up, it was all about the vinyl..yet as much as I liked vinyl, I did seem to buy alot of vinyl that skipped, so that was the only downside, (had to return quite often) that and once in awhile the record would be warped when you opened it..so I would always be a little anxious when I got new vinyl..when cds came in, I was pretty sad
I was born in 1965..I would get a happy high everytime I used to purchase a vinyl album in the stores when I was a kid. I love vinyl albums..the scent when you first open a vinyl record..the album artwork..the credits..sometimes pictures/ lyrics on the vinyl sleeve..sometimes a poster would be insterted..
I rarely leave sealed records sealed. I see no point in it. That is indeed the reason we buy them! I tend to put things like, "Check 'em out and let me know what you think!" in the captions of some videos because I love it when people strike up conversations about all this. Thanks for watching!
Hi Rob, the Cockburn lp is I believe from the late eighties. Not his best because of the spacey sound. I think his best period is 1976 - 1985. But any Cockburn is worth buying. By the way, is this again music from i?
@AeminiumPT - Thanks Alex! Enough people have asked about my stereo system that a video about it is rather overdue. I don't know why, but I keep procrastinating with that one. My time to make videos is limited as it is and, when I get some time, I just seems so much easier to sit down and show some records that I've picked up. Every nudge to do a system video motivates me just a little more, though, so it will eventually happen.
@dereckvon - My sentiments exactly. I was tempted to buy all of the 2 or 3 crates of sealed records that the guy had, but I already had a pretty big stack of other goodies (saved for another video) in my arms. You know, I had that Tony Banks album (just the album, not that 12" single) many moons ago and got rid of it for some stupid reason. It's nice to have it back!
@cosmicrider287 - I had not thought of that but you're right, Henry. It's the perfect time of year for that Talk Talk album. To be honest, though, ANY time is a good time for that album! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Although you could say that I'm a "record collector," I don't tend to collect for the value of a record. I'm pretty sure that I've got some valuable records in my collection, but I'm simply not keeping an eye on that. If I buy a sealed album that I haven't already heard, I don't hesitate to open it. I only leave records sealed when I already have an opened copy that I can play. The Talk Talk album I showed here is a good example of that. Why buy 'em if you can't play 'em?
@MrFartboy79 - You know it, Tony. I have such a hard time passing up sealed records. When I find them, the appeal of the seal makes my level of discernment go down a bit. Still, I feel like there are some nice finds here. Strangely enough, I think you're the third person to comment that you also have a sealed copy of R&R HS. Apparently, more of them were sold than were opened and played. What a shame! (Lucky for us, though!)
@Paneeks1960 - No worries, my friend. You didn't sound like you were asking for one of those Tull/LSO albums. I know what you mean, though. Sometimes I will comment on another person's video that I really want to find a certain record. I hope it never sounds too needy! Regardless, I DO have 2 copies of that record and, since you sounded interested, I'm happy to share. It's a great record ... on RCA's Red Seal!
@EoLoVoX I would love one Rob. Please keep it aside for me until you get the magazines that I am sending out to you. I got them in the box already and I got the box labeled. I just have to get to the post office as soon as I can. I hope I did not sound like I was asking for a copy of the Tull LP? I have a very poor tendency of doing that from time to time. But honestly, yes I would love to hear that. I swear to you Rob that my fellow VC members have been keeping my collection growing~ TOR
Wow, I would love to get everyone of Dusty Springfield's whole catalog. You are just kicking butt with these sealed records Rob. I am half way through the video right now and I just know that the sealed Morrissey early pressings are going to get shown soon. That Less Than Zero is the best for sure. That symphony/Tull/Barre LP looks quite interesting. I do love the early Tull so I would probably dig that . Interesting video. I know how much you love those sealed records. Me too~ TOR/Boston
@MRVYNIL66 - I have such a hard time leaving records sealed. I only tend to do that if I already have an open copy in my collection. My desire to hear a record usually wins out over any sense of "collectibility" that a sealed record maintains. I collect single malt Scotch, too, but eventually all the bottles are empty!
@tbw3100 - I adore that Talk Talk album. Definitely a huge fan over here. There's a big Talk Talk reissue campaign in the works, if you're looking for any of their stuff. I know what you mean about R&R HS... me too. I would have been happy to find that one for $1 even if it wasn't sealed. Thanks for watching!
@Lazerrus - I know what you mean, Duane. I'll probably end up putting it with my other Genesis/Tony Banks albums because it sort of goes with Banks' Soundtracks album, but I'm definitely kind of torn. I was super thrilled to find R&R HS, for sure. Heck, I would have been happy to find it for $1 even if it wasn't sealed! Thanks man!
I bet that Tull/LSO record would surprise you. Band members, including Ian Anderson, play with the orchestra and, at times, the thing rocks as much as any Tull album. If you come across a copy at a decent price, you should pick it up and see what you think of it.
@SupraWes - You'd really like the R&R High School soundtrack, Wes. Something Wild is definitely an 80s soundtrack. If you don't mind that sound it's pretty good. Haven't listened to Absolute Beginners yet, but I'd buy almost anything with David Bowie on it.
@DocStrangelyStrange - I can believe it! Fish is quite a character. Isn't he something like 2 meters tall? I know he's done some acting, too. I remember seeing him play a bartender in one of the Rebus mysteries. (...at least I think that's where I saw him.)
The Beach Boys albums all sound fantastic. I still cannot believe the condition that all of the albums that you sent me were in? Amazing. I will be thanking you soon in an upcoming 'thank you' video. I may have already told you this.. It may be my old age creeping in again~ TOR
Sweet! Haha I actually have a sealed copy of Rock N' Roll High School. I'll get around to opening it one day. I think I might have that Ravi Shankar lp...the first one. I'll have to check. Nice Talk Talk! I gotta find that one. Always great to find some still sealed LPs!!
@GeneralKraul - The music I playing throughout the entire video was a track I really like called "Drum Machines and Glockenspiels" from a band called Fridge. Fridge was Kieran Hebden's band before he started working under the FourTet moniker.
@skateordiemyass - The only time I tend to leave a record sealed is if I already have an open copy in my collection. Otherwise, why own a record that you can't play? Plus, there is a certain delight in opening a record that has been sealed for so long!
@ilovelinus - Nice! She has just recently come on to my radar and I like what I'm hearing. I think an album of hers was featured in one of those "What's in my bag?" videos. Her music, and her life story, sounded interesting to me.
@Chris4127basket - So much of what he had in the sealed crates was relatively common pop/rock/folk stuff. I was excited to find the Menuhin/Shankar albums. Still haven't played them yet, though. Time! Nice to hear from you, Chris.
Awesome finds Rob. Sealed Rock N Roll HS! Wow! That Fish & Tony Banks single I have been after forever. Score! Funny, I wouldn't know where to put it. In my Marillion collection or my Genesis & Family Collection? Lol. Great vid as always :)
Thanks! It's getting harder and harder to do. Several of my videos have been either silenced or deleted entirely because TH-cam or some record label felt that I was somehow ripping them off by playing music in the background.
It's a track called "Drum Machines & Glockenspiels" from a band called Fridge, from their album 'Happiness.'. Fridge was Kieran Hebden's band before he started working under the FourTet moniker.
It's very good. They really did a great job of orchestrating it in such a way as to not lose any of the life from the originals. The song selection and sequencing is excellent, too. Thanks for watching!
@EngelNr666 - I definitely agree. I neglected to mention it in the video, but I had a huge crush on Melanie Griffith around the time of that album, and her role in it only made the crush worse. sigh.
@greeno22 - I know, right? It's somehow a little extra special when you find them that way. I was pleased to find all of these, but those two soundtracks really made me smile. Thanks for watching!
@xxxKevyMetalxxx - Whew! I just assumed that, since there is a photo of Bowie on the back cover in a similar suit to the motorbike driver. Perhaps someone put that sticker there because it WASN'T Bowie!
@Paneeks1960 - Just please don't feel obligated to reciprocate, Rob. I've sent you records because I like you and I enjoy sharing music with you. It's that simple.
I used to sell a lot of things in order to fund new purchases but, after numerous regrets and eventual repurchases, I stopped doing that. I hear you, though!
The LinnDrum (LM1) was the first ever digital drum machine which came out in about 1981. It was heavily used...particularly for electronic and pop music. At the time drummers feared they would be out of a job. A situation made worse by bands and labels wanting to credit musicians with the instruments used. One of the reasons why I love late 70's and 80's film soundtrack/pop music is because they used to list the equipment used. That sort of info really adds to the interest for me!
Very nice. I always open sealed records because I want to hear it being played for the first time. I don't find many so I make sure I open it when I won't be interrupted and I have a full cup of coffee or cold drink by my side. Its kind of like premier night at a movie, except I'm usually the only person involved.
Awesomer Less Than Zero soundtrack. Honestly, who isn't on that soundtrack right?! Haha. Also, that LL Cool J number TheTecha is talking about was also released for the first time through that soundtrack, before it was even released on a studio album of his which I think it might have been, but that part I'm not sure of. Cheers to sealed LPs fo sho! -Tim
I would of picked up the Shankar/Menuhin they look nice. Fish from Marillion played centre in the basketball team my old coach played for, I think they were at college together or something. He actually played a gig here not too long ago, and spent the first 15 mins slagging off Simon Cowell!
Ok a question I am sure you have been asked a million times so here comes a million and one. Will you open the seal albums? I understand they retain more vaule unoepn.
Thanks for the Jethro Tull recommendation. I'm a Tull fan but I don't have that album, I'll keep a lookout for it. Great finds by the way, especially the soundtracks.
Hey! The first video i saw with you was you "musicroom tour" I loved it but it was until NOW i saw you had more videos...wierd. I Was veery happy to find these vids. I will follow you =) I love your videos! From another collectors point of view. Peace, love & Respect Fredrik from sweden!
I love the Rock and Roll High School, both the move and the soundtrack. I've said in a video of mine that the movie as about as fine as 70s cheese gets, and as far as the soundtrack goes, who doesn't love The Ramones. The Less Than Zero soundtrack sounds cool too. Can't wait to see more. - Ian
i can honestly say, solely by watching your videos, i've gained a huge interest in genesis. beyond that, i always appreciate the smile your videos bring to me. absolutely amazing stuff, great work. any recommendations in regard to genesis would be great.
hi. I've been watching your videos for a few months now and love them. Great looking stereo equipment in the back. Your record player looks particularly good... maybe in the future you could go deeper into that. Cheers from Portugal Alex
It's always cool to find old sealed lps and for so cheap even better! Love the fact that you picked the menuhin/shankar lp, I would have done the same :)
are you into the notion of buying more than one copy of the same vinyl? So like you have one for playing and one for keeps in the storage. What are your thoughts on this? I've recently started my vinyl collection! :D
I bought 'Colour of Spring' used in okay shape a while back for 10 bucks. You got it sealed for a few bucks = SCORE! When they're* sealed, they're* all gems in my book. (*note the proper use)
"Check 'em out and let me know what you think!". I think, you could just open them and listen!!! I think that´s the reason you buy them. greatings, bie
Thanks for watching, and cheers right back to you from America! I do so well at this particular flea market that I should really make an effort to go every weekend. As it is, though, I make it once every month or two. I ALWAYS come back with good stuff, though!
@thetcha70 - That's awesome! Thanks for all that background information, Robert. I love finding out stuff like that!

@timothyjohnhenderson - Yep, I was pretty happy with this bunch. I probably should have picked up some others while I was there. Oh well.
-Tim
@lpkevoski - Yes, that album is fantastic! I probably would have picked it up for $1 even if it wasn't sealed, just to "rescue" it!
I would of picked up the Shankar/Menuhin they look nice.
Fish from Marillion played centre in the basketball team my old coach played for, I think they were at college together or something. He actually played a gig here not too long ago, and spent the first 15 mins slagging off Simon Cowell!
@seqouiaflame - Maybe there are more sealed copies of R&R HS floating around than I thought. Great that you have one too!
@ilovelinus - Definitely! I need to pick up some Anita O'Day, even if it's not sealed. Which one did you find?
Ok a question I am sure you have been asked a million times so here comes a million and one. Will you open the seal albums? I understand they retain more vaule unoepn.
Thanks for the Jethro Tull recommendation. I'm a Tull fan but I don't have that album, I'll keep a lookout for it. Great finds by the way, especially the soundtracks.
Hahaha!! I have a sealed copy of Rock N' Roll High School!!! Love Mark Isham! Killer 80's sealed madness!!!
Can't wait to see more.

i can honestly say, solely by watching your videos, i've gained a huge interest in genesis. beyond that, i always appreciate the smile your videos bring to me. absolutely amazing stuff, great work.
any recommendations in regard to genesis would be great.
hi. I've been watching your videos for a few months now and love them.
Great looking stereo equipment in the back. Your record player looks particularly good... maybe in the future you could go deeper into that.
Cheers from Portugal
Alex
It's always cool to find old sealed lps and for so cheap even better! Love the fact that you picked the menuhin/shankar lp, I would have done the same :)
are you into the notion of buying more than one copy of the same vinyl? So like you have one for playing and one for keeps in the storage. What are your thoughts on this? I've recently started my vinyl collection! :D
Great flea market finds! I should go to flea markets more often too. Loved the Talk Talk LP! Thanx 4 sharing!! Cheers from The Netherlands :)
Check out Matumbi's "After Tonight". I'm sure you'll love it. It's on this same website - just type in Matumbi and After tonight. Cheers!
I think this may be the first vinyl community video I have watched that actually had music in the background, thumbs up for that.
A sealed Richard Pryor album is beautiful. I love it. Found a sealed Jimi Hendrix album for a 1.00...kiss the sky it was called.
@stephievon - Thanks Stephanie! It was definitely a good day at the flea market!
@mphsVinylJim - I can't believe no one has ever opened and played those albums!
What song is that in the background?! It's driving me bonkers
Neato sealed finds, I don't think I have ever even heard of any of those movies except for Less Than Zero. Let us know if any of those are good!
I have that Hendrix record, but I paid more than a buck for it! Nice find!
@sonicsteev - Thanks! I agree!
Northern Illinois... If you want more detail than that, let me know.
2 thumbs up on the Rock N' Roll High School soundtrack. I've got a nice unsealed copy.
I was blown away when I found that, especially in the dollar bins!
That bonnie raitt lp is real good
EoLoVoX Could you please put in the videos the band name and album title, thanks.
Ravi East Meets West Vol 1 and Vol 2 sealed. Wow. Groovy. Jim and The Mrs.
Do you mean name and title of the albums I'm showing or the music I use in the background?
You know it! I always find good stuff at this flea market.
It's OK Rob, that's not Bowie's face that got stickered. Sweet finds!
