Hello Robert! I screwed up my back...and found your videos. Man,they were exactly what the doctor ordered. I simply loved your videos, especially allowing us to share your trips to record shops...it's fantastic! I also enjoy the friendship you have with other members of the 'Vinyl Community'...especially,Blake. Very nice friendship, indeed. Anyways, resting my back and watching your videos made my day. I'll subscribe and hope to see more in the very near future. Have yourself a wonderful evening.
Martin Noreau Thanks for those kind words, Martin! I'm glad you've enjoyed the videos. Sorry to hear about your back, though. I occasionally find myself with some debilitating lower back pain, so I have some idea. Probably still doesn't compare. Anyway, I'm glad you're watching and have subscribed. Another record store video uploading as I type...
Awesome! Thanks for putting this together! My favorite part is the geek-out photo montage. I don't remember everything I got on that day but I do remember Encore only giving you one of those bags if you spent over $100...and all three of us easily got bags.
There he is! It sure wasn't difficult to "win" one of those bags at a store like Encore. So many good records in that place! Glad you approve of the finished product here and I hope we get to make another one of these videos before too long!
That was the first (and only) time I've seen it, too. I passed on it the first day because my stack was already so big, but I just had to go back and get it! It's a very cool version of the record.
That's so cool! I can't remember when I first heard the album, but I remember hearing "Emabhaceni" on the TV show Northern Exposure. I loved it and had to hunt it down. I finally did, on CD, so I was thrilled to find a copy on vinyl during this dig.
Encore is awesome! Easily my favorite record store in the area. I should have paid them more compliments during the video. We spent 3 hours in there and probably could have doubled that and still not checked it all out. Such a great record store!
Great video! Thanks for sharing, and if you're ever back in the area, make the trip to Flint and see Pete Flanders' Musical Memories. Every record is 5 bucks (aside from double albums) . My friends and I have found some great records there! I'm kind of new to the VC, but I love every minute of it.
Holy crap! There's quite a lot records around there. But still very nice and clean. I would love to do some crate digging in a place like that! Thanks for sharing!
HIM is Finnish, not Norwegian, by the way... ;) They had to release some of their stuff under the name "HER" in the US because of some other band called HIM. Maybe it was the one you showed?
Sorry about the mistake, Mikko! I really need to brush up on my geography of your part of the world, and what bands come from where. ;-) I didn't know about HIM having to make that name change for the US. It might have been because of this band. All I know is that, when I search for THIS band, the other one comes up all the time! On the other note, come visit me in America. I'll take you to record stores like this all day long. Then we can drink afterward! \m/
Another great video Rob!!! I love how you edit your videos; adding pictures, music, cutting in and out. That record shop looks amazing!!! I am sure the video footage doesn't do the justice of how awesome it was! I am surprised you guys were not in there longer! LOL! I really like the Kraftwerk and Peter Murphy finds too! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, Erik! There are some far more "professionally" edited videos out there, including in the VC, but I'm trying to improve with every one I make. Keep an eye on me, though, and let me know if what I do ever seems over the top! Encore is such an awesome record store. We could have easily spent more than our 3 hours in there, but we were starving! Once we all had big stacks of records, we needed beer and food. ;-)
I just wish I could do my videos as good as yours! I really do enjoy watching them! It's like you are bringing us with you and sitting us down and sharing your finds right there! Good stuff! Trust me, it's never over the top! Always great stuff! I can only imagine! The sense of the adventure as well going to a new record shop is always a great feeling too! Looked impressive! Yeah, beer and food is always a great way to wrap up record digging! LOL!
Some great finds there for all of you. Rob - Go-Betweens are quite rare to find on vinyl, think I only have a couple and more on CD. They were an amazing band, all the more sadder since we lost Grant McLennan few years ago. Check out his solo output and Jack Frost collaborations with Steve Kilbey. Nice to see VC talking about The Church too. What a long record shop that was! Nice old wooden boxes too.
Martin Parrott Thanks Martin! I really love The Go-Betweens, but their records are VERY hard to find around here. Worse yet, I've never seen any of Grant's solo stuff on vinyl. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.
I remember you showing the 'Cuts You Up' single after you got it - wow, was that really a year ago?! Excellent find. Looks like everyone went home with some choice gems. Keep these videos coming, Rob! :)
Hi Bret! This was indeed a really great day. We all enjoyed each others' company and found some great records. When so much time had passed and this video hadn't seen the light of day, I thought about scrapping it. I'm glad I never did because it was a really good day for the three of us. VC good!
Nice video, Rob! I can't even imagine going to a music store that huge. I think I would pass out as I entered the door! Glad to see you got something by Kate Bush!
Awesome video, Rob! Nice finds as usual (that japanese pressing of Jansen/Barbieri....wow!!!) That's an impressive store filled with tons of vinyl and cd's (killer Kate Bush stuff it seems). Great editing as always. Thanks for sharing. Take care.
Nice presentation. I see someone got the Alanis "Jagged Little Pill" vinyl that I'm still looking for in the wild. That Pretenders album looks really interesting. Have you heard Chrissie Hynde's latest solo album?
I have, and I like it quite a bit. I think I still like 'Break Up The Concrete' a little more, but it's still growing on me. You're right, too, in that the Alanis record can be hard to find. I don't see many of them in the wild.
Both were pretty exciting finds. The Abstract 6 was in their New Arrivals bin, and was pretty cheap! I made up for any saving with the Japanese J&B. ;-)
Great finds -- Would love to find that Krafterk in the wild. The "KILN" record you showed sounds interesting - might need to check those guys out. Who scored the "Ornette Coleman" Free Jazz masterpiece? LOVE,LOVE that one! Looks like you guys had a blast. Cheers! -Greg Mattingly
Hi Greg. It was VinylJoe who scored the Ornette Coleman record, and only because he found it before I did! ;-) Thanks for watching and commenting. It really was a blast to dig with these guys that day. Check out Kiln when you get a chance. I love what they do!
Best a' Gear! I'm glad you're making videos again Rob! I'm tempted to use my other YT account strictly for vinyl vids but only one things holds me back from doing so... My confidence of being on camera by myself. I think if i got someone else to be in the clip with me then i'd probably be fine. :) - Tyler
skeletor538 Tyler!! Good to hear from you, man! Hey, if you don't feel confident to make vinyl vids yourself, do them with Margaret! If you don't make any by the time we get over there, I can promise you I'm going to make you be on camera with me!
:D Great to hear from you on here too! Hey that should do it! :D I'd feel better if someone else was talking through an album with me, sort of a tag team effort :D I'd be more than happy to appear on camera with you my good friend! :D Margaret and i are really looking forward to the visit from you and your family! It's going to be one of the big big highlights of next year! If we make a video then i will have to refrain from using Scottish dialect! hahaha ;) Cheers!
Rob , as usual I'm struck about the size of record shops in the US, it's concerning in a way because in the UK costs are sky high for land so less chance for new shops
EoLoVoX Rob , Harry is about to start running his own market stall. I dont have the time (and I dont want to give up my wage!!!) but we have talked about investing in one
another great report, presentation and selection there mr.eolovox.it"s for videos like yours and dereck"s when he"s locked into real vinyl mode that have a contagious record buying effect on this viewer.bought myself a few since your last vinyl crawl. robert fripp & andy summers-bewitched. dire straits-love over gold. billy joel-songs in the attic. brainbox-brainbox 1969.(classic debut with kaz lux & jan akkerman in high quality control mode.check it out,i"m sure you"ll like it.) jan akkerman-live from montreux. mike oldfield-crisis. throbbing gristle-20 funk greats. peter hammill-a black box. van der graaf generator-pawn hearts(finally with gatefold sleeve!) climie fisher-rise to the occasion 12''(guilty pleasure.) and to top it off and go along with your beatles litho in the background some beatle fridge magnets!now that"s what i call a cool find. kudos for posting and take care my dear music friend!
Nice finds! I just love the title of that Throbbing Gristle album. :) If you are blaming me for influencing you to go out and pick up some more good records like those, I'll gladly accept the blame! I'm in pretty good company with Dereck, too. Enjoy all those wonderful tunes!
Love the video Rob I love records stores like this could spend all day in there hey I was wondering when your our digging if you can keep and eye out for the alnis album jagged little pill like your friend found and hootie and the blowfish first album if there not over 20 bucks a piece will pay u for them you can message me on facebook, if you find them.but other wise great finds been looking for those two albums.Defintley a spot will try to hit when im in Chicago next summer.
Good out and about and vinyl update video. Do you collect any other hard rock/heavy metal vinyl LPs, CDs, cassettes etc? I like LJ's (Biocyte1) metal updates but he does not do an out and about videos (unlike what coolduder, wetmovie1, Cinema Sickness and The Krazy Jason do for movies). I have a couple of HIM CDs. Great killer albums!!!
There is certainly some hard rock and metal that I love but I have yet to do any videos about those genres. I feel like I should leave that to those who are bigger metal fans, like Lj. I do like filming record store digs, though. Maybe I should go visit Lj, ask him to take me record shopping, and make a video of it!
Good to see you back Rob. is my mind playing tricks on me...or is this the first vid you have done for a long while? Im pretty sure there havent been any of your vids show up on my feed for many many months?
gg41r Hi Graeme. Your mind is playing tricks on you! I recently uploaded a video sort of explaining where I have been, another one documenting a Chicago record store crawl with a bunch of cool VC members, and yet another one with my finds from that day-long dig. This (Encore) video was recorded on site last year but never got edited or uploaded until now. Finally, I've got a video uploading as I type about a new record store that just opened up here.
StaffsOwl Sometimes that's a good thing, though. Sometimes I'd like to just pop in to one of my locals, peruse the New Additions section, and be on with my day.
It WILL happen, Paul. I'm sure of it! (This one happened a year ago, though, so it's not like I've become the record store traveler that you are. I wish!)
Great finds there Rob. That Go-Betweens album is terrific and you NEVER see those Abstract compilations around. Find the other one (#5) from 1985 if you can. It's got a great mix of "manic"by Colourbox on it. BTW..."Lament" is one of my favorite Ultravox albums:)
I would definitely love to find a copy of Abstract 5! Especially if it's got that Colourbox track on it. Not only have I never seen it in the wild, but I've never seen another copy of Abstract 6 since I found this one. Glad to hear you love 'Lament' too. Definitely a favorite of mine as well!

Wow, that shop looked amazing. I love that Pretenders album. I have never seen the laser cut version...very cool.
That was the first (and only) time I've seen it, too. I passed on it the first day because my stack was already so big, but I just had to go back and get it! It's a very cool version of the record.
I had that Miriam Makeba album on cassette in high school. Thanks for sharing another cool store and dig, cheers!
That's so cool! I can't remember when I first heard the album, but I remember hearing "Emabhaceni" on the TV show Northern Exposure. I loved it and had to hunt it down. I finally did, on CD, so I was thrilled to find a copy on vinyl during this dig.
ps. Come back to this area and dig with me! ;-)
Great video, Rob! I've never seen such a huge recordstore. Must be heaven to go digging there.

Pretty big store! Very nice video/stills - telling the story! Miram Makeba - just got an old record of hers in June!
I remember you showing the 'Cuts You Up' single after you got it - wow, was that really a year ago?! Excellent find. Looks like everyone went home with some choice gems. Keep these videos coming, Rob! :)

Thanks Miguel! Encore really is an impressive store. I probably should have given it even higher praise than I did in the video. Next time, perhaps!
fun to see the insides of all these shops, man
Thanks Tim! I love doing record store road trip videos.

Wow Pablo Moses.....did not know anyone besides myself in the Midwest knew of him...Most cool!
What a find with the Go-Betweens... not a band I've EVER seen in a record bin. Sorely under-appreciated here in the States.
very cool Rob!
Thanks Trish!

HiM is on Spotify. Sounds great. Found a sealed copy on Discogs and ordered it right away. Thanks, Rob!
That's awesome, Robert! I hope you enjoy it. I love just about any of Doug Scharin's projects, and was really thrilled to find that record.

I'll talk about Kate Bush all you'd like! I'm a huge fan.
