    As a dale owner of the last 15 years ive had to sort out this bike from day 1. I had bwatv rebuild the engjne years ago.The battery is not just undersized but there's a parasitic draw from the ecu. Put a switch at the handlebar or pop the seat and pull the 30 amp fuse. I made the mistake of polishing everything aluminum on it and now it's been relegated to a garage peice that doesn't get ridden like it should. As for the frame torching your legs I switched to Evans coolant and it dropped engine temps so much that I lost a few hp but worth it to save skin. Definitely not for those that want a run of the mill bike but you get off smiling most of the time.

      I never did test one for a draw, but now maybe I will. Good call!

    I know the first time I saw the air intake that the engine would not get the air it should. It was not ram air, but the filter behind the front number place, and the air went around the steer tube to the intake of the reversed head. My suspicions were proven right, when they added a 2nd air filter for more air. The MX version did not have a headlight, but the owner may have added it I guess.

    You may have motivated me, 2002 X440. I doubt it has more than 2 hours. I did some updates and maybe it is a good thing it did not run. I figured after 20 years somebody would know how to fix these things. Thankyou for the video.

      It's actually not that hard to work on. I have an earlier video where we dropped the motor. And there is a very active Facebook group for them, which is helpful

      I would have figured out how to fix the thing in 20 years, pretty sure. Do you expect a Yamaha dealership to figure it out?

    No smoke at the end. Valve guides must have been replaced. Now I am only a two stroke engine builder, but I remember that is a big reason why older 4-stroke cars would smoke.
    I dig ya man,---but I don't think I would let you work on my bike. :)
    I wonder if those bikes will be very much collector items in the future, (much more than now if you have 2 of them). I guess it depends on if free enterprise defeats communism or not.

    I interviewed for a job at Cannondale, and I saw one big problem in the MX bike manufacturing building, (which was 4 miles from the Bicycle manufacturing building). The boss running the floor who did the 2nd part of my interview seemed like a flunky from the automotive industry. I saw him make bad production decisions during my interview that would create quality control issues. But it was a good try to make a dirt bike in the USA, (and MXA helped destroy the company with a drive by fully auto review of the bike.).
    He was taken down for being competition like the Tucker automobile, but I don't think with the support of congress this time. I would love to see an interview with the CEO, "Joe Montgomery", to get his story about his gallant try to make a dirt bike in the USA. Like with the destruction of Tucker, (who would have been great competition for Honda), how do we measure all the losses? We are not sharp enough to realize this, but the death of the Tucker automobile and the death of the Cannondale is part of the dying USA.

      I worked there for a short while. I didn’t like how it was going so I went back to the bicycle plant.

    Have you noticed that you are the only averaged height guy who will vid yourself getting on and off the tall bike? Watch all the bike tests with MXA for example. They will never show themselves getting on or off the bike, because they look like that guy on a tricycle from "Laugh-in" (70's comedy TV program) when he is falling off his tricycle. :)

      Yeah, I probably look funny doing that, but oh well. Sometimes I ride funny too. My youthful dexterity (and other things) is (are) gone.

    Thanks for the video. I have a MX400, what battery are you using and/ or recommend? PO had a tiny little lightweight lithium battery in there and don't think it would be a good idea to jump one of those using the jumping post.

      @@bullpencycles Thanks! You should do more videos of the C Dales. It's hard to find a video of a running one on the internet. LoL. I sent my engine off to black widow a couple weeks ago for the updates since mine is a super early one...#28 off the line. I'm hoping to have it back together this spring.

    Nobody ran their handlebars that high for riding/racing at that time. The high handlebars became norm after freestyle took off big, and SX rhythm sections were used in SX.
    those tall bars subtract from front end control in all other conditions of the off road riding we do, but Harley riders call them "Ape hangers".
    Chase Sexton now has a new bar bend I have seen at the East Rutherford event, with the ends of his grip pointing down for better control,---and guess what, he is now crashing less.
    You can expect his new bar bend to replace the irrational freestyle set up we have all followed like sheep. The tall bikes today with the ape hanger set us is terrible for any corner with out a berm, and not as good there IMO either. The steering was "twitchy" to me, and I was not going to bother getting used to it, because I would crash more, and enjoy my rides less. Doug in Michigan.

  • @EarthSurferUSA
    @EarthSurferUSA ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It is still about 2" shorter at the seat than most of today's bikes, which is why there is no such thing as a real off camber corner, (Hard ground, will not rut up or form a berm), in MX racing anymore. :)

    The second dirt bike when trying to start had the one way bearing slip. Sucks I’ve been there more than one time and know the sound. Bummer is it’s a complete tear down to replace

    • @bullpencycles
      @bullpencycles  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It was hydro-locked.. These engines are both freshly finished complete tear downs from the renowned Cannondale expert, fully documented. Dales are kinda there own thing

      I’ve been around cdales from the beginning.
      I know Kdeal, Dave and Tim Matzack and also Brad when he owned and founded black widow way back.

    Cannondale was not the worst bike ever!
    My Penton 175 Jackpiner won that title. Coulden't lift the front wheel off the ground.🤣

    Id say fix them and then gingerly ride them because where else are you gonna see these bikes. Personally I'd rather have a 450 Yamaha

      You don't have to apologize. They were junk out of the box but still technically advanced . . . junk when new
