It's hard to compare, seeing as their souls inhabit objects who can be repaired but cannot heal, but this seems to be like a tibia breaking through your skin and sinew, but you resetting the bone, redistributing the weight on your hips, and marching home on your knees.
Come along come along, cried Edward come along aaaaaaaaaarrggghhhh!!!!! Cried Edward hardly! A shrieking crack destroyed and damaged Edward's splashers and side rods
One of my favorite Railway Series stories. Edward proves himself and gave it his all when others would just quit and call for help. He may be old, but he truly will surprise us all.
@@FullArcher05 Agree, he must had felt a lot of pain but even thought he did his best to ignore the pain and did his best to get the job done, he's truly the strongest engine to ever exist in a certain point of view.
Indeed one of Awdry's finest. However I feel it would have been more convenient, if the Fat Controller would not have been left unknown of why they were taking so long before they returned. They could have had the nearest signalman send a message ahead to the Big Station. But that does not hinder the story essentially.
This story here is amongst the most remarkable to the importance of Edward, his character personality, and his overall journey throughout the series. It ain't no secret at all towards my opinion of why I think Edward is the true protagonist of the Railway Series. The good qualities a character like him is why he's such a poetic justice in representation to a love letter for steam trains everywhere in the world.
Back in those days, the franchise had a soul, now it's just kept alive by its popularity and annoying politics. Why couldn't they just cancel it if it cannot not be politically correct? Edit: I might have exaggerated.

@@AirshBornely It’s for the best you don’t look into it. Adding 2 trains to replace Edward and Henry are enough of a description to what they mean by politics.
That's definitely not hypocritical. Duck was boasting because the great western celebrity City of Turo just visited the railway before. Gordon was basically saying Edward should be euthanized before he dies by breaking down. ("before it's too late")
Edward is so my favorite character too. I love this story as well. Fat Hatt really should've been happy to see Edward arrive and not give a hoot about being late like the passengers didn't.
Edward: I gave you all I had. I did! (coughs) Topham: I... I... James: Come on, sir! Let's get him preserved! Henry: We've made it! We've won! Edward: Thooomas made it. He's the only one! The rest of us... no. But I tried. In the end... i did.
Some of the coolest pictures are the ones where you don't see the faces. But one thing I never understood as a kid, and still don't understand today, is why taking off his traction rods would help him. Could someone explain that to me?
Because one of the pins holding the one on his left broke, and apparently they hadn't the wherewithal to repair or replace the pin. The left rod is what wrecked his body; so they took it off. They had to take the other one off as well; I suspect you must connect both sides of the axle for traction rods to work properly.
In the Episode I think they just forgot to take them off for all the other shots of Edward moving after he started. They did show his one driving wheel spinning on the rail while the other didn't.
I mean I only prefer the damage being visible on Edward, but everything else including the sound design just clears the original story when the severity is made much more clear.
@TheNo1andres ? Are you sure you don't mean Gordon or James? Or even Duck, talking endlessly about being 'Great Western'? I can't recall a time when Edward was ever annoying, can you?
I feel sorry 4 Donald and Douglas coz they lost their railway 2 extremely rude diesels. I look at stepney passing three other diesels on the other railway in bluebells of England in book 18, and I think, I feel sorry 4 the steam engines that were scrapped and how rude the diesels from the other railway were in the railway series. It's like the other railway in the railway series is the most dreaded railway in the world
well then i will feel sorry when all the diesels get replaced by electrics. i was going through a stage when i was studying some of the steam locomotives in that time period, and i just connected with Percy's quota in that story. im sure one day i will forget all about it, and today's the day
my mum felt so extatic to get her "new" colur TV and back then, kids didnt need soooo much of the expensive things we "want" nowdays. kids back then would be happy with simple toys, but now simple toys aren't enough for yours or my generation
Question. Why did the producers of the TV Series Disney-fy episodes like 'Steam Roller' and 'Toad Stands By' to a point where the phrase 'shut up' got replaced with 'be quiet'? There is no Disneyfication in this episode where that phrase gets mentioned again [anyone would think Duck could've said in the adaptation: 'Keep quiet!' OWTTE], or 'Dirty Work' when Duck bangs the trucks.
Edward: (Panting breathlessly) Come on! Come on! Come on! This is dreadful. Starbeam Twinkle: Be careful, Edward. (Edward's wheels are slipping fiercely) Edward: I can do it! I can do it! I can... (A shrieking crack broke Edward's crank pins and damages the side rods and splashers) Edward: Ow! Starbeam Twinkle: Edward. Are you ok?
Yes indeed. Unfortunately it was probably due to budgeting issues that they could not show the extent that Edward was damaged in the show. Unsatisfactory it may be but it was still the best episode of Season 2. And honestly that is saying a lot as season 2 was an outstanding season overall.
Seeing how bad the damage on Edward looked, I imagine him screaming in pain.
It's hard to compare, seeing as their souls inhabit objects who can be repaired but cannot heal, but this seems to be like a tibia breaking through your skin and sinew, but you resetting the bone, redistributing the weight on your hips, and marching home on your knees.

Agree!
Mine is Henry as I was able to empathize with him before his rebuild.
Edward is my favorite to
Is he still your favorite character today lol just asking
I love this story, Edward showed such determination and managed to get his passengers home even though he was in pain.
Where the other engines would’ve just moaned and groaned and stayed there
The look of pain on Edward at 2:11 is heartbreaking
It's a great illustration, though. Peter Edwards captured the moment perfectly.
😣
One of my favorite Railway Series stories. Edward proves himself and gave it his all when others would just quit and call for help. He may be old, but he truly will surprise us all.
Your so right
He was 69 at that time.
My favorite is Gordon. His arc had the best conclusion
Edward: *suffers a ton of damage*
Also Edward: tis but a scratch
A damage like this isn’t a problem to an engine with determination.
Complex simplicity, that's my description to the entire RWS.
Perfect summary.
Damn, Edward's shape getting messed up like that truly frighten me as a little kid back then.
The damage looks as if he screamed in pain.
@@FullArcher05 Agree, he must had felt a lot of pain but even thought he did his best to ignore the pain and did his best to get the job done, he's truly the strongest engine to ever exist in a certain point of view.

@Master Farr He was repainted green in again in book no.5 _Troublesome Engines._ His first story back in green was _Henry and the Elephant._
This is why the Edward is the leader of the NWR Fleet.
He went from 4-4-0 to 4-2-2 real fast.
So true ngl
Here's a goof surely. Duck is a hypocrite. He tells Gordon, James and Henry in this story to 'shut up' yet talks at length about being Great Western.
This implies that bragging about your old railway is equivalent to insulting a good friend and saying he should retire.
