Dr. Leonard Sax also talks about this phenomena in his book "The Collapse of Parenting."

This is so true! Different teams!
My 3 sons don't have iphone, video games and even TV shows (they are 13, 11 & 11 years old). I want to prepare them for the future reality. I make them do chores to learn responsibilities. I discipline them when they have attitude and have wrong dongs. I sign them up for scouting so they are exposed to the strong man leaders. For them being in public school is hard because I have to fight an uphill battle for all the pop culture & how other parents who "spoil" their children.
I have tried 2 different charter schools. One is more disciplined and strict, which I prefer. However, I am not thrilled about its curriculum. Some teachers are so strict and I even have fear of them (parents were yelled at in the car line). The other charter school is excellent in academic but very liberal (kids can dye their hair to school). It challenges one of my sons but it doesn't match my parenting ideas.
Last month, I think the school even reports us to CPS because the younger sons were telling the counselors that we abuse them, which is not true. I drop them off and pick them up every single day. I communicate their teachers from time to time, attend their parent to teacher's conference. Not one teacher or administrator approached me about it. The counselors believe two 10-year-old's words by heart, with no doubt that they don't exaggerate and create heart-crushing stories about us (yeah, kids don't lie!).
I suspect they learn this from one of their classmate few months ago. This African little boy said his step dad abused him so he tried to commit suicide at school twice by jumping down a 13-feet tall cliff during recess. Of course, police and probably CPS were called in and settled the issues. After the incidents, the boy got a brand new iPhone from his step-dad. I am wondering if my kids want the same because they ask me for an iPhone every single day.
Now, we have this distance learning (I also homeschool them as well). Not once my twins asked me for a cell phone.

their website, familyteams.com, has some info that can help shed some light. Otherwise, other episodes on this channel will help answer the question imo
