This video came about by the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative asking basically whether I wanted to interview some of the leading experts in their field, to which the answer was obviously yes, so big thanks to them. They make some fantastic videos diving a little deeper into the field of humanitarian response, including one that just came out here:

I too remember that disaster, a co-worker booked her vacation in a resort in Haiti days before the earthquake. Everyone told her not to go, but she kept her reservations and (despite the infrastructure collapse) managed to make it there.
When she came back she was furious that there was no reliable electricity and therefor no ice cubes for her drinks, or air conditioning. She complained that most of the sight seeing ventures were closed and there were no other guests and minimal staff (because everyone; foreign guests included, ditched their vacation and resort jobs to help).
Great respect for all the people, countries, relief organizations, and US Navy that lend their hands to help.
      Zero respect for my co-worker.

What they really could have used, is one of those inflatable OR's/hospitals.
They inflate into a sterile operating room, fully equipped with air seals in case of a pandemic like ebola, as well as climate control and electrical outlets hooked up to generators.
They can be air dropped in, inflated and completely set up within 90 minutes. Multiple units can be attached to one another to make a full hospital. That includes triage, examining rooms, pre/post op, X-ray, offices, etc. You name it, and they can be linked up and operational in the time it takes to watch a movie.

I was leading a parachute packing platoon for the army at Fort Bragg. we ran 24 hour operations packing parachutes for aerial delivery to Haiti, mostly CDS bundles. Some local group donated a whole truck load of Fiji water that be boxed up for an air drop. The first airdrops didn't go quite so well a the locals rushed the drop zone when they saw the parachutes. We used our High velocity chutes that fall at 40-50 meters per second. A few people got killed in their rush to get to the food/water.

Great video, I love seeing disaster response being talked about. Have you considered doing a video on domestic emergency response because you touched on a lot of concepts from emergency management like the National Incident Management System (NIMS), the Incident Command System (ICS), and Emergency Support Functions (ESFs). Y'all even touched on demobilization (as an example within ICS/NIMS one question they always ask on the test is "when do you start planning for demob?" and the answer is of course when the disaster starts). I can guarantee all of the groups affiliated with the US Government (Air Force, Coast Guard, FEMA USAR Task Forces, etc.) that deployed to Haiti used ICS. Might be an interesting video to cover the command and control system used by US agencies during disaster responses.
