27:08 That's an oddly positive way of covering the Cambodian story. As someone from the region who was following this news, I understood it as an animal abuse case so government stepped in and impounded the defanged lion, but its Chinese well-to-do owner and the Cambodian dictator were friends somehow so he could still keep the lion. Obviously a corruption case. Owning lions as pets is against Cambodian law, but Hun Sen is ruling by decree so 🤷♂️
To see positive is to see that with eyes wide. Focus on the problem and only the problem you have always.
I mean for one thing, it’s keeping wildlife inside your house, which is illegal unless you’re some sort of wildlife preserver as far as I know. But yeah, although it was immoral to keep a wild animal inside your house, much more a lion, it seemed to be docile. But that doesn’t keep it from the fact there’s a guy keeping a lion smack dab in the middle of Phnom Penh
@@tommy5797 generally sure I guess but ideally it's just looking at it as accurately as possible with both sides considered. But yes if you're able to see a positive side then you're probably at least in the right direction
@@legendaryzodiac574 that makes absolutely no sense. If you look at everything through a positivive lens you will be ignorant to any bad things happening. It's better to look at it through no lense and just see what happening based on your best judgment.

additional info: Apart from being a boxer, Pacquiao is also a sitting Senator, Mayor Moreno has a somewhat x-rated past as an actor, and opposition leader/vice-president Leni Robredo is another candidate
Don't forget Leody de Guzman, a labor leader.
I think the reason why Leni and Leody are not included is because he used the word "potpourri", which in Tagalog basically means "nagpapabango". ;)

Correct. Both the ebola and the coup against Alpha Conde were about Guinea. So you ow us a story about Equatorial Guinea now.

Glad I wasnt't the only one who paused and looked him up. He was bullied for being "fat" in school until one day he threw his bully across the room and made himself realize he was stronger than he thought. After that the bully never bothered him again. "In its absence, you'll notice that two other "C" words came to dominate our headlines: climate change and coup d'état"
Most badass thing I've heard all day.
From a British perspecitive, Boris is the "C" word I've been reading the most about.
From the perspective of m TH-cam feed, "Country-Roads-Take-Me-Home" is the other-other "C" word that came to doinate my headlines.
The video was also dominated by the _other_ "C" word, CuriosityStream, today's sponsor!
It's crazy how fast this year went by!

Yeah, same. All of his videos are good, but this is uniquely awesome. Besides the documentaries on Majuro and St. Helena, this series is the greatest thing on the channel.
In the Philippines 43:00
An update with the candidates. Apart from those people earlier stated (except for Sara Duterte as she will run instead for vice presidency) who will run for president, Vice President Leni Robredo and Philippine senator Panfilo Lacson will also run for Philippine presidency.
IF you can find the capacity to keep doing this, you are at least helping this one person feel more connected to the world. Thank you so much. These videos are a gargantuan task.
So I guess he’s doing this every year? If so that’s great I love this series. Going by HDI is interesting and I like using different metrics every year.
The example of Togo at 16:26 clearly support Polymatter's point: Those who have the slowest headstart have the most potential to make up for it.
And it's the most awesome when they do.
Honestly I think the most impressive part of this episode was how well you pronounced this guys name. 42:16
Imagine if the news posted more well rounded sessions such as this...the population would be a lot better off and less stressed in my opinion. (Edit: I am referring to on air programming mostly)
Ad driven/for profit news can not make any money on good news. Us humans don't respond well to that. We respond irrationally to _Conflict._ Once irrational, we are easily manipulated. Thus, we do not have a news media that provides truthful data, we have a "Conflict Propagation Industrial Complex"

Depends per country and culture.
From my Dutch perspective, all US media is pure panic, outrage and packed with the talkers their opinions and morals.
I get selective coverage at most here.
I shared this with another creator but it has been years since I've actively watched TV. I cannot thank creators like Wendover enough for helping me make this transition. I have gone from absorbing unhelpful and mainly useless information to constantly having access to high quality content that intrigues me. Great work on another wonderful video!
It may be intriuging and high quality, but low level news from across the entire world is undoubtedly less useful to each viewer than that from a local station, even reports from similar topics. It may just be refreshing to hear about each regions brand of mundane events.
@@jetstreak2786 Not sure where you are from but local news stations in the US are laughable. Your point is taken though.
I really hope you continue to do this in 2022. These "news you missed in 2020/21" are honestly my favorite videos you've made and I think it's important to hear these stories.
The Vatican's approach to tackling societal issues is probably the most funny thing I heard in a while, like
You are homeless? Let's get you some pizza
Been sentenced to 40 years in prison? That sucks. Anyways, want some ice cream?
Thats the point: giving an impression of being good and helping people, while actually doing nothing good and keeping your position of power
For real, they horde millions of dollars in donations and give out some ice cream to make people happy while doing absolutely nothing

There's so much happening that it seems like nothing is happening
Did not expect my football team to get a mention in this video but it really is great what Radriazzani and Leeds United did for the young footballers from Afghanistan
$50,000 Liberian Dollar is approximately $345 US Dollars, or about 70% of the average annual salary there.
This is now TH-cams greatest tradition
It's amazing seeing the news that we missed all around the world. It brings new light to the difficult year and gives me so much hope for the future!! :)
I'm Vietnamese and the news about my country is so random, yet so real. Good job.
Great video! Just wanted to point out that on Guinea (country 178 on HDI) you used the flag of Equatorial Guinea by accident.
He also put the wrong Guinea had a coup
@@avgeek707 do you mean the wrong news? Yeah, understandable. I don't think he even mentioned the military coup.
@@jonahmsl He mentioned it. Under Equatorial Guinea, not actual Guinea.
@@avgeek707 OH ok then, thanks. I didn't notice lol
OH MY GOD I LIVE FOR THIS SERIES SINCE LAST YEAR AND YOU DID IT AGAIN!!!!!!
HNNNNG TIME TO SIT BACK AND ENJOY, THANSK WENDOVER!
You’re killing it! I do miss the airline news videos though

Buddy you spoke about Guinea Conakry twice (10th and 17th mins of the video) and both times you were displaying Equatorial Guinea’s flag. On the second time (27th min) you also subtitled it Equatorial Guinea together with the it’s flag, but the content wasn’t from my country either… I know it’s hard to make a good difference between all the 3 guineas in Africa, but a quick way to identify them would be the official language of each; In Conakry is English, in Bissau is Portuguese, and EG is the only Spanish speaking country in Africa.
Nice video btw, keep it up
Quality of Wendover videos never goes down!!
41:10 as a Venezuelan migrant in Colombia I can confirm this is indeed huge. Cool to see it covered here! Great video as always. :)
I really hope this becomes a yearly tradition - it would be a really great one, I think.
This was fantastic. Beyond my expectations. Bravo, Wendover.
Such a great video man! Kudos to all the work put into it!
I'd watch this sort of compilation every month.
keep up the good work! Another great video
Wendover: "You won't hear me utter the C-word."
Me, an Australian: "Well, that's just bloody unacceptable."
Thank you for continuing this, I look forward to it every year Sam! 😁😁
This video was amazing! I hope this becomes a permanent series on this channel.
I would love to see HDI 2019 vs. 2021/2022. Would be amazing for next year. Which countries improved or worsened due to covid
so refreshing to see there are ppl reporting about things happening on this planet outside of masshysteria. very appreciated.
Love this concept! 👌
Enjoyed watching this earlier today on Nebula.
It's encouraging to see the many positive changes.

Iron Biby! I remember watching a couple strongman videos with him a few years ago and he wasn't quite at the top of the overhead press game yet. Super happy for him with that monster lift. Heroic figures can be great for countries.
42:59 Correction: Sara Duterte became Bongbong Marcos' running mate and they're comfortably leading the polls so far
Opposition candidate and current Vice President Leni Robredo sits in 2nd which gives me a little hope that an opposition slate might have a chance at winning it
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno sits at 3rd and leads the alternative vote poll which might sap Bongbong's base
Manny Pacquiao's chances are the slimmest on the mainstream candidates where he sits at 4th place
Ping Lacson sits in 5th and this is his 3rd time running so there's little to no chances of him winning
Please do one for this year!
The wrong flag was used for Guinea and the wrong information was used for Equatorial Guinea
That was immensely enjoyable and educational and just amazing, what a great idea, I look forward to it again this year ♥️
I love this series!

Love these videos every year
Surprised for Honduras that you didn’t talk about their recent election, which basically returned to power the people who were ousted in the 2009 coup, and may have implications for the now former president’s families drug smuggling case in New York
3:42 The flag of Nauru fits so satisfying to the frame of the picture.
When you live in Switzerland and are sad that your country is gonna be last in the video but are still glad that it is

And the sad news will probably be the NO to the CO2-Law..
@@playlets6465 maybe the yes on gay marriage 😅😬 but I think it will be something negative as well
Will you be doing this for 2022? Loved these!
I HAVE INCURRED SO MUCH LOSSES TRADING ON MY Own...I TRADE WELL ON DEMO BUT I THINK THE REAL MARKET IS MANIPULATED...CAN ANYONE HELP ME OUT OR AT LEAST TELL ME WHAT I'M DOING WRONG ?
Same here, My portfolio has been going down the drain while I try trading, I just don't know what I do wrong
Trading with an expert is the best strategy for newbies and busy investors who have little or no time to monitor trade
I lost £1200 carelessly trading on a platform then I was referred to Mrs Laura Smith she recovered the loss and made an extra profit of £4600
Wow I'm just shock you mentioned and recommend Expert Mrs Laura I thought I'm the only trading with her
I'm so happy for taking the bold step in working and investing $2000 with expert Mrs Laura Smith after a week I received $19,680 to my bank
I still can't believe that the first video in this series was a year ago.
So who's gonna time stamp every country in the video 🤔
Someone just did like five minutes after you commented
Can't fucking believe I missed the continent moving 1 milimeter.
I'll not miss this entire video.
The story about Jamaica was actually a story about the United Kingdom and had nothing to do with Jamaica.
I love how you do this the second year in a row! Thank you!
What a year. What a year!
Since we ended on Mongolia, I'd figure I'd say that Mongolia is a neat place. It hasn't changed much in many, many years.
Quite cool.
Ya know what's cool about Nepal? you can draw their flag on a purely driven math formula baked into their constitution. no joke, their constitution contains a large section on how to draw the flag based on a math formula.
Norway and Switzerland are number one and two respectively. I'm calling it. Or in this video's case last and second to last (in part 2)
Thanks. You are giving the world a gift for the future
The news about Syria although true it tricks people to think this is the case for refugee camps; while this is the ONLY ISIS camp in Syria, while there are 7 millions Syrian civilian refugees in drowning camps out of 17 millions displaced by barrel bombs, Russian airstrikes and chemical weapons. Be fair and avoid being misleading with partial coverage because we do have huge respect and hold you to high expectations.
my god that "c-word" intro was hilarious
Wrong flag for Guinea. It shows the flag of Equatorial Guinea.
The picture for South Sudan when you talk about Juba is in the (northern) Sudanese city of Kassala
Wtf, $50000 has got to be life-changing in Guinea right?? That kid who found and returned that much money must be exceptionally selfless..

Or wise. The alternative isn't all pretty. Could be crime-related money, could be caught, could be an entrapment, etc. The only 1 good outcome is if they were not seen, and if they have a place to hide the cash for years so as not to arouse suspicion... especially tax authorities.
I love finding channels like this. I can go back and there's tons of new content ( new to me) and it's quality. I relish these channel finds
This video really makes me appreciate my country’s stability and privilege. Our planet has a lot of disadvantage, but there could be much less if humans worked together regardless of borders.
Only problem is humans are inherently tribal. Just look at sports rivalries. People will say and do nasty things because "you like the other team." Unfortunately it is inevitable that similar people to that will take power leading to conflict among nations.
That intro was really well written
I love what you are doing with these end of year videos!
However, it's hard to stick with all the way through because it's a fire-hose of info. I would love to see more and shorter news videos spread out through the year. I hope you would consider it because your style of presentation is highly engaging and more quality news sources are always needed.
Either way, keep up the great work and have a happy new year!!
Exactly, he doesn't pause enough for us to absorb and process it. I'm just going to click on my what he has to say about my country and move on.
What was the deal with the Yemen entry? They talked about beautifully sculpted trees, but never showed ‘em! Awesome video ntless. Your work is always wonderful.
Alas, stock footage can only show so much.
