I think "unknowingly killed" would be more accurate than "accidentally." His death wasn't an accident. I'm glad the women are ok and able to continue living relatively normal lives.

That's the part I just can't connect. He is paranoid about VX and has antidotes to it, but the whole thing is so random and socially out of frame that he doesn't think it is an attack? Plus, the poison was probably already doing its work.

But in the very first moments after the attack, it seems like it would be foremost in his mind (given the circumstances) that this could be an attempt on his life. It doesn’t seem to have much crossed his mind, though none of us can know why he reacted the way he did. This whole story is definitely stranger than fiction.

Just a side note: Antidotes are sometimes (not often) also poisonous if taken without the poison. That means if you are not sure if you have been poisoned by this exact poison and still take it, you are risking worsening your case. That's why medical staff have to be really sure about the substance people get poisend with before giving any antidotes

My guess is it would be too diluted over time. While it was a lot to a human it is likely a micro fraction of the water in the ocean and eventually breakdown/dilute until harmless. That or no sea food or swimming ever again once it gets loose

For real that is what shocked me the most I think. They played their roles so incredibly well that even when one of them somewhat exposed their identity as being a spy by going to that restaurant spies are known to frequent, she still did not think he was a spy. North Korea seems like such a chaotic disorganized country but I guess somehow they know how to train their spies.
I hope our generation will experience North Korea and its citizens being freed from dictatorship, and finally have a leader who leads the people instead of torturing.

We follow a man who goes on a guided tour with a group of other people back to the jurassic age to hunt dinosaurs. It is okay to kill them, because the dinosaurs die anyway, but you must retrieve any and all bullets and you're only allowed to move on a levitating path as to not disturb the environment because any disturbance could affect the future. Our main guy ends up breaking the rules by stepping off the levitating path and running into the forest when he fails to kill a t-rex. Blah blah blah him and the other tourists get back to the time machine and back in the future, everything is fucking wrong. The wrong president is in power, the English language is all fucked and so on. Main guy checks the mud on his boots and discovers a single dead butterfly stuck on his boot.
What ever destiny that butterfly was supposed to have in order to secure the chain of events that gave main guy the future he came from, has now been altered because he accidentally killed it by stepping off the levitating path.
There's also the more well-known metaphor of a butterfly flapping its wings on one side of the planet could cause hurricanes on the other side of the planet, but I always thought that metaphor was stupid and prefer A Sound of Thunder better. It also predates the flapping of the wings metaphor.
This is a ridiculously insane story. I heard nothing about it when it had happened. You're an incredible story teller, and I'm an instant fan.
How is that possible? This was covered EXTENSIVELY by every major news organization..the death, the women who were tricked, their acquittal. Everything.
It was on the news in Australia, I can still recall it, but it was like a one or two day report and never mentioned of again.

it was all over the news in Indonesia. Most Indonesian people didn't believe that Siti and Doan as killers or spies. Because it was such an issue back then where lot of people in Indonesia, who grew up relatively poor like Siti, that went to countries like Malaysia, Thailand, etc in hopes to find better opportunity/pays but ended up being tricked by their 'agents', abused by their 'employer', or even trafficked. It's not that far of a fetch to think that they were tricked like this. The uproar of Indonesian people to help Siti really helped to make the president to do his best to get Siti home.

I'm from Malaysia, so when the news of the assassination came out I was shocked it happened in such a public place and in KLIA, which I've been to many times. Had no idea these girls were tricked into doing these 'pranks' before performing the last one. Thanks for covering this even further including the lives of the innocent women used as scapegoats to kill someone. My heart breaks for them since they went through such tribulations. I'm so relieved they were finally released and hoping their lives and family's to get better.

For everyone that is like "omg why didnt he use the antidote" let me share a few things about this "antidote". For starters, the toxin in question is known as an irreversible acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. Acetylcholinesterase job is to break down acetylcholine. A common neurotransmitter (signaling chemical) in your body that mainly regulated the "rest and digest" part of your nervous system. So when you get a toxin like VX , its going to stop the breakdown of Acetylcholine leading to increased levels in the body causing excess "rest and digest" mode. This will lead to symptoms like low heart rate, shortness of breath, too much salivation, and your nervous system getting really excited which can cause stuff like confusion , seizure, becoming psychotic. Now. This man would not be able to 100% know for himself, even if he was instructed on what symptoms to lookout for, on whether or not he was being poisoned with this particular toxin. But lets say he took the chance and gave himself the antidote (atropine). For one. Thats not even the full antidote. He still needs the second part of the antidote pralidoxime as atropine has its limitations. Secondly, what IF he gave himself the Atropine and he didnt actually have this particular toxicity? He just gave himself the atropine and that comes with its own set of side effects. It would potentially send his body in rapid "flight or fight" response and spike up his heart rate and shortness of breath and confusion. He could even die if the dose is high enough. So yah. Just wanted to provide a little insight on the mechanics of this drug.
Also, fun fact for you all. There is a less potent toxin of the same mechanism that farmers get exposed to and present similarly to this man. Same treatment for them too. Atropine!

I feel like he had an idea of what his assassin would look like. Maybe he heard stories from his father. Maybe a guy with an umbrella like Russians had done it during the cold war. Not two young slim innocent looking girls. By the time he would have thought about assassination attempt he was too out of it to administer the antidote.

OH MY GOD I still remember this case! during the time Malaysia & NK were "fighting", we Malaysians were amazed but also scared by how brave our government was. there was a wave of hysteria where people were like "OMG we're gonna get attacked by NK's nuclear bomb". looking back it was such a bizarre time in history

It's easy to forget just how cruel and insidious some people - especially people in powerful positions - can be. A story like this is a good reminder that the world is not anywhere near as friendly and peaceful as some seem to think. There are some true monsters out there.
The best thing you can do to survive and not get unalived is to reduce the risk of encounters of dangerous situations, like don’t say anything stupid, or use common sense. Life is a gamble, use it well.

In hindsight, they used "friends of friends" to recruit two potential candidates. Then they start trying them out to see if they have the will to do what they ask.
If they do, they perceive it to be harmless. Step Two: Training in another country. Increase the frequency of pranking, using baby oil. Again, they perceive it to be harmless and they're still making money.
Now, Step Three: THE REAL DEAL. Have a few guys as the handlers, a few more to be point men to make sure the mission is completed. Give them a big pay day and a plane ticket back home. While the police chase the girls, they operatives escape to another country.
On the opposite end, if they didn't tell them what they had and exposed themselves to it, Doan or both could've expired. Authorities investigate, the girls take the fall and the operatives get away.
"Dead people tell no tales."
The atropine antidote means nothing to the target since he didn't know what he was exposed to, let alone the training to properly inject himself the correct dosage. Not having syringes and needles didn't help either.
I feel bad for both of them, but especially Doan. They're not just framing her, it seems like this man is playing with her emotions as well and obviously, they wouldn't have minded if she died (I mean, there was a chance for both of them to die by the end of it, but she could've died on the spot. I wonder how they picked which girl to go first and which to be second) And then, they set her up and got her back on the crime scene? This man is truly heartless.

Most people will have to wait to be seen as theres probably people who the nurses/doctors deemed more critical. Extreme pain doesnt always up you to the top. Maybe you arent waiting the longest out of others but you might not be seen for awhile yet.
I get so excited when Stephanie covers Espionage cases as they are so intriguing, and this is one of those cases that set a clear example of how ruthless Kim Jong Un’s regime and the Nk-RGB really is!
And the question remains if he’s capable of doing this to his own brother his own bloodline what would he do to the poor helpless civilians in NK. I have no doubt Stephanie is covering this in great depth and detail, and here’s some key notes i previously wrote about the case;
- It is known that Kim jong Un ordered a generational family purge starting with his uncle who was arrested and executed by a firing squad and over the following months, the rest of the family was rounded up and executed except for Kim Jong Nam who was at this point isolated and without any kind of backup . Nam was known to be a particularly favourite of his father’s it’s said that this is why he was eliminated last to inflect the most pain on him knowing he’s all alone before executing him.
- The girls were chosen because they are less suspicious and less threatening as well as naive enough and in serious need for work and financial stability.
-The girls body language analysis concluded that they seemed “unaware” to the trained eye
- The way the hit was executed was by touching the nose area to make sure the target inhales it then on the mouth to ingest a secondary dose for double measures. it was specific instructions given to the girls from the very start of the recruitment to see how well they execute the pranks each time and how fast, once they were sure the girls did a good job they gave them the actual mission. If they didn’t do well they would have probably moved on and selected different girls for the job
- No one thought this was a random hit on Nam so in that sense the plan failed. Except the common theory is that Un wanted this hit to be public to set an example.
- They showed the man who claimed to be a producer in a short clip were the main girl tried to film him and he immediately covered the camera lenses with his hands you could still get a very clear look at him. In the interview one of the girls claimed that “James” seemed nice and after striking a conversation, he simply asked her if she would like to be part of Tv a show about hidden camera stunts / pranks, she said they only used baby oil and face lotion in all pranks until this one and according to her the day of the hit felt no different than any other day, she met at a cafe in the airport with “James” to discuss the next target of prank, it was a busy day in the airport - “James” told her she’d get a bonus if she did well in this particular job, then pointed at man in a grey jacket and said that’s him, then proceeded to put the oil in her hands immediately but this time it wasn’t baby oil, it was a deadly nerve agent, the two women then did their move, one went for the nose and the other the mouth, when Nam freaked out at what the women are doing, they both got nervous and ran away while the man in the grey jacket Kim Jong Un’s brother “Kim Jong Nam” walked to the security to tell them what happened and the whole thing can be seen on the cctv with him including Nam walking with the security and Medical worker to the infirmary, you can even see a gentleman all in black with a black suitcase making his way to the infirmary right after to ensure the hit is done that man was a known Nk-RGB operative, the leader can also be seen on CCTV code name Grandpa having what we’d call a nervous smoke while awaiting at the airport gate close to the getaway car where another driver was waiting.
- Both girls were proven to have had no clue of what they just done when they were arrested by the local police shortly after the incident, they said they had no clue what they were getting involved with and simply thought it’s another harmless prank
- The gang members including the Chemist who concocted the deadly nerve agent formula were effectively arrested as well.
- Video evidence of the Chemist getting his story straight with NK-RGB officials was released, it was all caught on camera and recovered during his arrest, in my opinion that short clip showed the pure manipulation tactics of the NK- RGB telling the chemist of how his comrades were so worried about him and that he did such a good job - and then ended with and i quote ( So , we now have a good story ready don’t we ), at that moment the chemist’s facial expressions made me very sad because he seemed to feel proud of himself there, that he made his leader and comrades proud of him!!
- The ominous manifestation of the mind control tactics of Kim Jong Un’s horrific regime is nothing less of monstrous and make no mistake Kim’s sister isn’t going to be any less vicious as she is already known to be way worse from many reports that have leaked about her from abusing drugs to enjoying violence and being highly encouraging to Kim Jon Un’s rein of terror .
- Some say Kim Jong Un is just a mad man and Surely i agree but do we really want to laugh and disregard a mad man with such deadly intentions and influence ?! Have we finally learned from other dictators who came before him or are we just watching a repeat of the same disastrous tactics play over and over! #FoodForThought

Recently found your channel and I cannot even tell you how captivating your ability to tell stories is. You truly have found your calling.. it’s almost intoxicating!
That's what made me subscribe to all her content like I just listen to her while I'm working so I can rarely look at the video. But she's such a great storyteller. I feel like I'm listening to like an audiobook or just a really well done podcast like the way she tells these cases and some of her cases. I've heard through another channels, but the way she presents it It feels like a whole new story and I love how she always gives us like the background of everything that's going on to paint like a full picture before she gets into what the case is actually about. Like she lets paints a picture of what happened leading up to the event. So even though I'm rarely looking at the video, I'm picturing everything that's going on. That's when I think someone is an amazing storyteller is when I can actually conjure up an image in my head of everything that's going on. I feel like a great book is a book that can do that too while I'm reading it. If I can recall a book as if it was a movie, it was a really well done book.

They're so interesting/entertaining (depending on the video topic ofcourse). The research in these rotten mango ones is so well done and stephanie tells the case so incredibly well, and with a lot of empathy and respect for the victim(s). I remember this. Specifically that one of them was wearing a shirt that said LOL, which made it pretty obvious to me that she thought she was filming a prank and not an assassination. I was so scared for them, and I was so relieved when they were finally freed. Can you imagine? The whole scenario is just completely unbelievable.
I feel just terrible for the man who died, too. To think that his salvation was in his backpack. I have to think he just didn't realize what was happening to him. I think that happens to a lot of people. How often have you heard of someone having the symptoms of a heart attack and they still don't realize that's what's happening to them, despite years of very specific warnings? He probably didn't realize he'd been poisoned with a nerve agent, or thought he'd have more time.

Where would two random women get a weapon like that? This is so sad. When it happened I remember thinking how foolish they were but clearly they were just a bit naive and maybe should have checked the views on their "TH-cam" videos. I feel very sorry for the girls.
Of course they were a bit naive, one of them was from a tiny village, and she had 6 years of education in all. No wonder if she wasn't aware of the intricacies of how to monetize content on youtube. And even if they thought it's a bit weird that there are not a lot of views, and the pranks are not that funny, so what? There are tons of pranks on TH-cam that are not that funny, and as long as they are getting paid, who cares?
I have two questions:
1. Why they didn't send back Nams body to his family in China?
2. Why were potions of VX thrown in the ocean? What if the containers are breaking and the poisen flows in the Water?
for the 2nd question, yea that terrify me like I'm sure its not the only poison or dangerous chemicals that is under our ocean and just what if one day it would leak 😢
Because North Korea assassinated him. Everyone is so afraid of saying it but North Korea assassinated him and is an abomination.
1st. North Korea has more rights over their citizens than the citizen themself. So to them his body belonged to North Korea before it belonged to his family.
2nd. The ocean has always been the number one place to dump chemicals. It’s unfortunately the safest place. Japan just recently dumped old unwanted nuclear waste into the sea not too long ago.
VX is only dangerous when inhaled, permeating the skin or swallowed/injected in higher dosages. Also, it's somewhat volatile, so even if there was any leak the seawater would dilute it so much, that it's unlikely any more serious effects would happen than with other kinds of regular runoff or spillage.
For #2, the volume of the ocean vs the volume of the poison means that were it to leak, it would be so quickly diluted that it wouldn't be an issue. Also, any aquatic life that came into contact with it would die and metabolizing it would break it down so even if they were eaten, it would no longer deadly. It also breaks down over time if not properly stored so it would go inert fairly quickly anyway. All in all, sinking it in the ocean is probably the safest way to deal with it.
I didn't know he had the antidote on him. That's crazy he could of saved his own life.
