We used to use Aqua Kem products for many years. Then in June of this year We were at a campground that sold the Unique products so I got some and tried them out. I was really happy with the results and the lack of odor. We now use the Unique products exclusively.
Right on Dave. We always used Happy Campers too and were not too sure about making the switch. Both seem to be really good products so far. No complaints with either.
We use both as well, and been very pleased with both. I will say this RVer's need to know their RV's, what type of systems they have i.e. type of toilets eigher gravity dump, Vacuflush or macerator type, tank sizes, do they have probe thru tank sensors or sonic type sensors (mounted on the outside of the tanks). Probe thru tank sensors are historically been an issue and will continue to be just due to there design. Knowing your system, how it works and how to care and maintenance it will go a long to be a happier camper.
I've tried several black tank treatment solutions and love the Unique product line the best. Thanks for the Burp image--I've heard of it, but never seen it--thanks! I will start filling the tank up before emptied it now--thanks for the tip. Enjoy your videos and education!
Yes we have overall been pretty happy with them. So much of these tank treatments also come down to the proper use and techniques. I like how they help out with that. Appreciate you watching Steven!
We have only used Unique. In two years we have never had a smell, or clog. Matter of fact, I dont think we have had anything solid come out of our black tank. We use the cleaner twice a year. In between cleaning treatments, we use the original pine sol, as recommended by one of the tank cleaning services. Another thing that helps, after flushing, I close the black tank and run 3-5 gallons of water back into the tank so the new pods have water to live in. Plus I know for sure that there is enough water for things to dissolve in. Number one issue with back tanks, not enough water for the chemicals to do their job.
Get your tanks professionally cleaned and see how much sticky goo comes out of your tanks, its an eye opener and we will never use "dissolver" products again. We thought they were working too, and we just packed the tank walls with sludge.
Switched to Unique about two years ago, great product. Great job on the video, great explanation. I'll have to give the tank cleaner a shot. Like you stated, it's just difficult to be able to let it set that long. We are not full timers either so, we are limited to the times that we are camping. Thanks for the info!!
Great video. We are part timers. I have tried Unique, and just about every other treatment; except Happy Camper. None of them worked on the smell. I finally settled with Dawn and Borax, which has worked great for 4 yrs. Unique does brake down stuff better than the Dawn and Borax but just does not work well on the smell. Our 90 degree + summers in NC probably don't help.Every 3rd dump I use Unique the night before we expect to dump, since it really breaks things down very well. The proof of how well it breaks things down was when I got a poop shower, when my black tank valve decided to leak. I pulled the cap off and around a gallon of stuff dump on me. All the TP was broken down to little pieces. I have since replaced the valve and I always assume there is a surprise behind the cap.
I’ll be curious to see how Unique does this summer on the smell. Happy Campers has always worked very well with that. Thanks for stopping by and watching. 👍🏼
We’ve use RV Digest-It in combination with the Geo Method for about 8 years now. After flushing the black tank the sensors will usually read empty. I checked with Unique to confirm that the Geo Method (I use liquid Calgon water softener and liquid laundry detergent) does not affect their product. We are going to start using their toilet bowl cleaner now as we just learned that Lysol toilet bowl cleaner will kill the enzymes. I tried Happy Camper powder once and I found it didn’t dissolve well in cold water.
Living with a septic system with my sticks-n-bricks, one "killer" of septic health that many do not realize is that along with high loads of bleach, tobacco will also kill the beneficial bacteria.
Unique Digest-it worked great for odors in our black tank but it didn't dissolve the toilet paper and we tried regular single ply and RV rated. We also had a lot more solid waste than you would expect that never broke down. We would start with 5 gallons of water in the tank and 3 ounces of the product. We would fill the bowl every time we used the bathroom before flushing and every time we tried to dump the tank, it was blocked and I had to use a reverse flush valve. We contacted the company and their suggestion was to add more of the product after a few days. That didn't work either. I know many people love the product but for us it didn't work. Eventually we went with a different product that works really well. YMMV
Oh that’s too bad. We used Happy Campers RV Treatment for years and had no complaints with it. I actually seem to notice the Unique breaking stuff down better though 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️Gotta go with whatever works best for you though right! 😀 Appreciate you watching.
You don't need any "product" just lots of water and if you like a homemade deodorizer that works well is 40 ounces of Pine sol, 1 cup of Calgon bath beads and add water to make one gallon. Use 8 ounces after every tank flush with 5 gallons or 10% of your tanks capacity of water added to the empty tank.
We have been using Happy Camper for both black and gray tanks. Next time I will try Unique. If the cleaner is 15x more concentrated could you do the math and use that as the regular stuff? Just use smaller amounts. We are tight on space in our truck camper.
Get the Save A Drop flow meter, hook to your faucets when filling up with water 👍🏼 then add treatment when they are close to full. Here’s a link amzn.to/3Cex6ow Honestly we always just know too when it’s getting close from learning over time how long they can go depending on how many days it’s been. Most of the time we empty before they are full but we also know when the shower starts draining slow or backing up , same with the kitchen sink.
I wonder what my mistake is because I poured half the bottle into an empty tank then filled the tank to half full, emptied after a few hours then repeated the fill process, let that sit a few hours before using toilet as normal, and it has been made the smell worse. My go to product before was tst max citeus and it was not in stock, but it killed the smell and broke down anything in the tank. Using this was worse than leaving alone
Couldn’t tell you Sam. But here’s a link to their help page. They have email and a phone number for customer support and people having trouble with their tanks 👍🏼 uniquecampingmarine.com/pages/customer-support
I have been using unique products for about 4 months now and have been extremely pleased with the results... until now. It's the end of July here in Arkansas and we've been experiencing 100+ days for most of the month. I'm not sure what's exactly happening in the tank, but it appears that the extreme heat kills the enzymes. I've done everything suggested to me by unique and videos watched with no resolve. I've added cool water throughout the day and the smell seems to get worse with time. I've had to go back to "the blue stuff" during these hot days and it seems to keep the smell in check somewhat. Not completely but better than unique digest it plus does. I will go back to unique when the weather breaks.
You do not want to turn your holding tank into a septic tank by using stuff like this. Lots of water is the key to black tank care. If you want to use a deodorizer you can make your own with pine sol, Calgon bath beads and water. None of the professional black tank cleaning services recommend using chemicals that dissolve waste because over time it builds up the same type of gooey sludge they have to pump from septic tanks. It also makes your tank smell worse. Fill your bowl 75% before using and flush another 75% bowl after using and you won't need these costly chemicals. We are 2 full timers and we empty a 40 gallon tank every three days but, it stays cleaner and does not stink or cause sludge or cost a lot of money. This kind of stuff is a scam just like "RV" toilet paper.
Hopefully you're not a tea party because it's gonna be millions of people that would never, ever trust you. You're probably giving bad advice to ruin people's campers. If you're trumpian
Been using unique for a couple years. I like it no plans for changing anytime soon. Plus my Ace hardware sells it for less than anywhere online.
Good deal. I like how it is easy to find in most stores too. Appreciate you stopping by and watching. 👍🏼

How do you use the geo method in combination with the unique RV digest it?
I use
Zep citrus degreaser
Borax
Dish soap
In black and gray tanks... No issues yet
You can get the 32 ounce bottle at ace hardware for about $12 a bottle. Almost half the price at Amazon.
Nice! That’s impressive. I’ll have to keep my eye out for that 👍🏼

Not sure Garth. Never heard of it.
