I rode that road several dozens of times to Millers lodge and Mkuzu creek. Love the place. Greetings to Jitengeni Primary School teachers and my beloved Student. Love from Toronto 🇹🇿❤️🇨🇦
Interesting to me to take a ride on that road again. I lived and worked in Tanzania back in the late sixties for a couple of years. Drove that exact same road many times. The road looks exactly the same. It was built by the Germans back over 100 years ago when Tanganyika was a German colony. The thing I do notice is the dramatic effects of many more people in those mountains. Then it was mostly forested, high elevation rain forest. But then the population of Tanzania was like 11-12 million. Now it something like 38 million. There can't be many wild places left when you have that situation. There were leopards in those mountains when I worked there in forestry.
It's true currently the population has gone high as much as 57ml and the forest rapidly reduced. Alot of effort is being made currently to reduce invasion.
Also noticed the place you stayed looked like the old "Lawns" Hotel as it was called then (1967) Was kind of a sad, derelict place then, water for your bath heated by"Tangayika" boilers... ie barrel with a fire lit under it. The place was owned... I think by an old colonial lady... all by herself. Sort of a left over remanent from the glory days of the colony in the 40's and 50's before Independence. I do remember having some good times at the place though. No tourists at all in those days.
Thank you for your comment, and brief history lesson. Lushoto was a very relaxing part of our Tanzanian safari trip. It was very refreshing to spend a night in cooler mountains. I would love to go ack one day.
Beautiful looking place, however, you just hope the driver never mistakenly steps on the speed pedals rather than the brakes because, looking at those cliffs, you'd be minced meat in no time.
