Romans may not have commonly over indulged, except occasionally in the Imperial court, but Pompeii, a Roman seaside resort was full of brothels, bars with gambling tables and takeaway food establishments.
When the Elizabeth Line was being excavated in London, England, a mass grave of gladiators who had revolted and been executed in the second century, was found. This revolt was written about by a Roman historian, because it was so significant, but there was no proof it happened, until the mass burial of beheaded gladiators was found.

I disagree, History is NOT written by the winners, and that's common misconception.
I mean sure, that might have some truth to it depending on what time period we are talking about, for example like the ancient period where we are soley relying on written sources but its more acuurate to say its more like written by the living rather than a loser, like that Greek guy whom recorded their loss in battle against Persians for example.
As history gets closer to the present century, concerns for the above argument become more irrelevant since we have a more diverse range of sources and historical narrative on certain events depending on which country you go to may differ, for example compare how WW2 is perceived in the US and western countries and how the Japanese education system narrates it for example.

The biggest misconception is that the Roman Empire ended in in the year 476. What we call the "Byzantine" Empire was still the same Roman state of Julius Caesar and Augustus, they just didn't control the actual city of Rome anymore. But by the time the Western part of the empire fell Rome wasn't even the capital anymore, but just the city the state got its name from but the Roman Empire really lasted until 1453, just a few decades before the Americas were discovered. Meaning there were living former Romans who new about the existence of the Americas!

The Roman Empire fell in 476, but you're right, the city of Rome carried on as part of the Western Roman Christian Empire, only to be overrun by the Ottoman Empire in 1453, just as the Eastern Roman Christian Empire in Byzantium had before it, by the same enemy.

Only thing that bothers me is he doesn't clarify the part about Caligula making his horse Consul. That wasn't later embellished, and it wasn't the move of crazy person. The dude has real problems with the Senate and that was basically his way of trolling them.

This was a great show but as an alder history lover I look at all history with a large pinch of salt. We are all human and trusting 100 percent all are foolish Pin-Heads.
