Hey Jasmine! A welding instructor here. About your welding wire getting stuck. Have numerous contact tips on hand and don’t be shy about replacing them when needed. It is also possible to clean slightly damaged ones using a tip cleaners and filing the end slightly to clean off spatter. Jasmine get some fertan it is a rust convertor when the area you have cleaned and gets wet just spray it on and it will protect it you can weld over it
amazing work Jamine - just found your channel. 👍👍 in regard to handling the roof sheets... its "possible" if no wind but will be more than twice as quick with another person and heaps safer if there's any wind around. I'm a chippy and have done my fair share of pergola roof sheeting and like with the welding, once you've done 2 or 3 sheets you'll figure out "your way" of handling them. if you were doing it on your own it would work to lean a sheet up against the container - lay a piece of timber or a towel or something to slide it on - then climb up and pull it up from the top. I'd normally say don't try on your own but looking at what you've done on your own already you're probably up for the challenge. biggest tip - make bloody sure the first sheet is square with the structure. second biggest tip, don't screw the screws down too hard (if you squash them more at one end they can creep out of square) and don't put them all in (the screws) until you've got all the sheets down and square. maybe start with screwing the top, middle and bottom purlins with 3 or 4 screws each sheet (work out a pattern making sure you have a screw in every overlap) until you've got all the sheets on, then use a string line to make sure your screws hit your purlins. have fun 👍👍💪👏👏👏
Oh wow honestly you have no idea how useful this information and advice is ! I’ve just screenshot it because wow thank you so much that’s going to be so helpful! I really appreciate you taking your time to write that all ☺️🙏
@@Building.a.Dream-Barefoot_Jas haha - no worries- I found myself reading all your comments and I couldn't believe no one addressed this already.... keep crushing it 💪💪
Your resilience and determination are truly inspiring as you weld your container house together despite being stuck in a storm. Your ability to face challenges head-on and stay committed to your homestead project is admirable. Your journey showcases strength and unwavering dedication. And I am Floating Village Life
Having spent many days on my strawbale house up in Perth, going forward three steps and back two - yes, it will all be worth it. ANY progress you make is something you don't have to do again. :)
Thank you so much that’s exactly how it feels but before I know it winter will be over and hopefully I start leaping thank you so much for the lovely words ☺️
Put a sheet from the top container down over the side of the red container and you can work in the shelter of this even if it rains or blazing sunshine.
you'll find it much easier getting the welding wire out of the torch if you remove the tip, also it'll go in easier, also you local welding supplier, will likely have some tip dip, and anti splatter, buy both, every once in a while as you are welding, dip the tip of the welder into the tip dip, it'll help prevent it from jamming up. l would get help when lifting the roofing sheets, you do not want to injure yourself.
mate grab yourself a decent tarp and stretch it from top container to bottom outside the angle will keep you dry and your work area dry also don't get set back 3 steps forward and 2 backwards is totally normal
roll back your pressure on your feeder rollers, you basically want it to just push the fire through your fingers gripping it at the tip end, make sure your lead doesnt have any twists etc in it aswell, that should stop it from birdsnesting as much
I find a leaf blower really good for clearing water off a wooden deck, should be the same to get it off the top of the containers, then you can use it elsewhere afterwards.
If you stick (arc) weld as long as you can keep your welder dry you can weld the wet roof but don't do it mig welding. As you run the bead the heat generated will dry the steel. Definitely invest in weld thru primer. It's great seeing you learn the different trades as you progress 😁
Just a suggestion with the MIG wire, use the smooth groove rollers. The knurled rollers are no good. I know they say it’s for the flux core but they are a pain in the butt! The knurling damages the flux core and causes it to kink / birds nest back at feeder. Should eliminate the issues you’re having and make the welding experience a bit more enjoyable! I hope that makes sense🙃 Keep up the good work. Living the dream! I’m pretty jealous!
Hi . What about a ibc tank or those blue plastic 44 gallon drums as a storage to put on your deck to keep stuff dry. By memory there not that heavy. Cut a flap or the bottom or top off if u get what I mean. Can pick them up cheap on marketplace.👌
Keep your welding wier as straight as possible with no sharp bends. Make sure the rollers in the might are set for gasles wire. Paint all your metal with weld through primer. It will help keep your steal rust free a bit longer 👍
@@Building.a.Dream-Barefoot_Jas the rollers for the gasless wires (flux core wires) have knurled grooves instead of the smooth tracks. I used the smooth grooved rollers by mistake instead of the smooth because I thought the knurled serations would puncture the hollowed out flux core wires
Hi Jas! I was wondering what wire and welder you ate using to join these cans together. I have enjoyed getting caught up on your progress and have been fully inspired! Thanks in advance 😁
Make sure your miter saw is made for cutting metal. Wood mitre saw cuts at a much higher speed. metal saw uses not only special blade but is geared for slower cut
Hi Jas, I could make comments all day long about what your doing and how your doing it and what you should be doing on and on and on a!! But I’m not (I know thank god)…. I just love watching how you do things and work it all out coz that’s your journey, It’s your project. The smile on your face when you look at what you’ve done is priceless. Watching you stuff around with that Mig Welder I really really wanted to jump in but no you need to work it out that’s how you learn. You’re a strong person and smart so you can do it I respect. I know we only see a bee’s dock of it all and you show it to make it interesting for us but I look between the lines and I see it all. I know where your coming from and where your going. Keep it up stay strong and don’t worry about what everyone says or thinks. Thanks for sharing Jas you rock girl ✊
Wow what a beautiful message to get, I’ve re read that a couple of times! Thank you so much for understanding the journey to get where I’m going and thank you even more for being here for it ☺️🙏
1. Leaf blower 2. Tarp from top container to the outside edge? To cover whole area of both joins 3. Maybe a hole (to be window/door) in the top container to put the welder in n out of to save having to take it up and down? Again your smashing it either way, keep on keepin on 👍
You will need a set of hands at least. Those sheets can turn into sails with surprisingly little wind. Add in the structural coordination. more than one set of hands would be very efficient!
G’day Jasmin, Firstly bloody score !! You are so lucky to receive a sponsor, and a bluetti power station. How awesome is that, perfect for your needs. As you said, continually using the mig, helps you learn and improve your skills. I did say mig not stick haha!! (Inside joke). You’re fastly becoming a jackie of all trades, you’re kicking ass with the tools. I’m sorry I can’t help you with some tips on the roof, as I’ve never had the opportunity to build one, so I’ll watch how you do it and take notes. @@Building.a.Dream-Barefoot_Jas its a good bit of kit, shame bluetti didnt give yu a battery bank or 2 to go with it. Yu always need a bit of storage when it rains for a day or 2. Give them enough plugs they might dip in again.
Can you weld the offcuts from the flat bar to the outside of the containers to make scaffolding platforms then when you have done the outside walls you can grind it off then weld it onto the next section and so on
Thank you for the work you're doing. Hopefully, I will be going through the same process here in North Texas. Because of the heat here, I am planning on going subterranean, with geothermal cooling. I was planning to use only two containers, but after watching you, I believe I'll redesign the structure to accommodate four containers now. I have also come up with what I believe is a unique idea for rain collection and filtering. I hate to see the hardships you are encountering, but they say what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Good luck, and happy building.
Ohh that’s so exciting! Also so nice to hear of similar plans! The rain collection and filtering sounds so interesting well done! Thank you for sharing I wish you all the best with it ☺️🙏
Have a look on line and you can get a welding primer, which would able you to clean up the areas that you are going to weld and give them a paint with the primer and it will be ok to leave and come back to weld on with out having to clean it again.
Jas my father in law was impressed with your welding skills. He said if only you were in Victora, he would have shown you tips and tricks of the art. He's been welding since the 70s.
@Building.a.Dream-Barefoot_Jas you're getting there. You are showing women that we can do anything if we put our minds to it. I'm renovating with my hubby at his nan's house. I just said yesterday I would get on the roof. I'm a strong, independent woman like Jas.
let some presure off the rooler on your wire feed if it was to weld it self to the nib it will slip on the wire at the roller rather than nesting , saving you lots of time re feeding the wire youll just have to clear the nib , hope this helps and well done you doing great
Hey Jaz, might be worth making a light weight shelter (like a tent made of pallet wood and clearlight) that you can have over your work area and move as you progress. A bit of work but dry work area in the long term
Something weird with that wire feeder, it should be perfectly horizontal from the roll to the lead inlet and the top roller should clamp on just firm. if it doesnt need inspection you could also run a bead of sikaflex over your welds in case there are pin holes
Your welding skills are coming on a treat welding is something I never mastered and unlike you I gave up .I definitely think your going to need help with roof sheets but hey this is Jasmine so you never no good luck with the weather 🌞
Thank you so much! I’m starting to get the hang of it which feels great it’s definitely the repetition though! Having to do so much has really helped! 😂😂 we’ll see how I go, I usually find a way but getting an extra pair of hands in my be better for this one 😂🙏
Kentucky here again- wish we would get some rain for the plants but I totally understand the battle of welding on a roof that’s wet! Seems your projects don’t let you stay dry now!
I think a guy has commented on the welder tip . Your wire is getting stuck by a dirty tip . Buy a box of tips that are the next gauge up from your wire size eg if using 7 gauge wire use a 8 gauge tips . Or just chat to your welder supplier to get it straight . Great to watch your progress . Cheers Dave

And I am Floating Village Life
Aww thank you so very much floating village life! It’s been a roller coaster of a journey but I’m loving every second 🙌
That’s a great idea!! Thank you 🙏
you'll find it much easier getting the welding wire out of the torch if you remove the tip, also it'll go in easier, also you local welding supplier, will likely have some tip dip, and anti splatter, buy both, every once in a while as you are welding, dip the tip of the welder into the tip dip, it'll help prevent it from jamming up.
l would get help when lifting the roofing sheets, you do not want to injure yourself.
Awesome work indeed and so happy you got a sponsor. I hope you do not get to much more rain.
Thank you so much yes I’m praying the rain holds off!
mate grab yourself a decent tarp and stretch it from top container to bottom outside the angle will keep you dry and your work area dry also don't get set back 3 steps forward and 2 backwards is totally normal
Thank you that’s such a great idea I’ll try find a massive one! And cheers so much for the supportive words I’ll get there 🙏
Tighten up the drag on the wire spool to help prevent the kinking
Thank you!!
roll back your pressure on your feeder rollers, you basically want it to just push the fire through your fingers gripping it at the tip end, make sure your lead doesnt have any twists etc in it aswell, that should stop it from birdsnesting as much
Thank you so much! 🙏🙏
use the next size up contact tip. if using 0.8mm wire use 0.9mm tip... helps a lot with gas less wire
Thank you 🙏
I find a leaf blower really good for clearing water off a wooden deck, should be the same to get it off the top of the containers, then you can use it elsewhere afterwards.
Yess great idea thank you! 🙏🙏
If you stick (arc) weld as long as you can keep your welder dry you can weld the wet roof but don't do it mig welding. As you run the bead the heat generated will dry the steel. Definitely invest in weld thru primer. It's great seeing you learn the different trades as you progress 😁
Mig welding has been the way to go for sure 🙌 thank you!
Get yourself a marquee for keeping our of the rain. You could pop it up on the roof and keep working while the rain comes down.
Thank you 🙌
Just a suggestion with the MIG wire, use the smooth groove rollers. The knurled rollers are no good. I know they say it’s for the flux core but they are a pain in the butt!
The knurling damages the flux core and causes it to kink / birds nest back at feeder.
Should eliminate the issues you’re having and make the welding experience a bit more enjoyable!
I hope that makes sense🙃
Keep up the good work. Living the dream! I’m pretty jealous!
I had no idea thank you so much that’s such great advice I really appreciate it, having to stop to sort it sucks so hopefully this helps! ☺️🙏
yea, still can't figure out why the knurls wouldn't damage the flux core wires. it doesn't make sense
I feel like I go through the emotions with you…the good the bad and when you hit your head on the jetty! You’re doing amazing.
Aw thank you I try to include as much as possible so you can be part of the journey ☺️🙏
Hi . What about a ibc tank or those blue plastic 44 gallon drums as a storage to put on your deck to keep stuff dry. By memory there not that heavy. Cut a flap or the bottom or top off if u get what I mean. Can pick them up cheap on marketplace.👌
Ohhh that’s a really good idea! I’ve seen them cheap or free on marketplace too! Thank you 🙏
Keep your welding wier as straight as possible with no sharp bends. Make sure the rollers in the might are set for gasles wire. Paint all your metal with weld through primer. It will help keep your steal rust free a bit longer 👍
Thank you so much! That’s such great advice 🙏
You're welcome. You're doing a great job, biy the way
@@Building.a.Dream-Barefoot_Jas the rollers for the gasless wires (flux core wires) have knurled grooves instead of the smooth tracks.
Love your positive outlook and perseverance Jasmine 💛🙏👌
Thank you so much! ☺️🙏
Hay Jas, cut an opening in the top container to hide away when it rains. Your going to cut openings eventually for doors windows etc
Some people are suggesting a leaf blower for clearing the rain water but an air compressor would completely dry the work area
Ohh yess that’s even better 🙌
Make sure your miter saw is made for cutting metal. Wood mitre saw cuts at a much higher speed. metal saw uses not only special blade but is geared for slower cut
Thank you so much! I did read that first before paying so I made sure it was ☺️
Hi Jas, I could make comments all day long about what your doing and how your doing it and what you should be doing on and on and on a!!
Thank you so much for understanding the journey to get where I’m going and thank you even more for being here for it ☺️🙏
@@Building.a.Dream-Barefoot_Jas You and I are like two gumtrees in a forest 🌳
Looking forward to watching your homestead come to life. Exciting times ahead.
Thank you! Looking forward to sharing the journey with you!
1. Leaf blower
2. Tarp from top container to the outside edge? To cover whole area of both joins
3. Maybe a hole (to be window/door) in the top container to put the welder in n out of to save having to take it up and down?
Again your smashing it either way, keep on keepin on 👍
I tried a leaf blower today and omg best thing ever and I had way too much fun with it! Haha ☺️
You will need a set of hands at least. Those sheets can turn into sails with surprisingly little wind. Add in the structural coordination. more than one set of hands would be very efficient!
Now I’m imagining them blowing around site 😳😂 thank you! 🙏
Maybe you could set a work tent up on the roof and move it along as you go to keep undercover and then continue working in the rain.
It’s so much fun learning new skills. Well done chick your enthusiasm is inspiring. Just get shit done attitude 🇦🇺👍
Thank you! Yeah that’s it I call it the “just do it “ attitude 😂 it feels so good !
Maybe you should be using a weld through primer on areas you clean up for welding.
Thank you so much!
Loving the progress in your skills, so proud of you !!
Thank you so much! That’s so lovely of you it’s the best feeling seeing the progress as I go 🙏
Bluetti is amazing. I'm so happy for you. 🤗

G’day Jasmin,
Firstly bloody score !!
With the weather just remember it’s all going to be worth it, it’s all going to be worth it … so just keep migging in the rain haha!!
Cheers mouse
Hey Mouse!
Thank you so much for another brilliant comment to read again!
Haha I’m getting there with the trades one by one and very slowly but getting there 💪
Haha yes I’m going to sing this to myself the entire next join ! You’re a legend thank you! 🙏

😂😂😂 sorry that is my bad then! But worth it surely 🙌
How good are these sponsors 🙌❤️
So bloody good I’m stoked 🙏
Good on bluetti, great score. That will come in very handy.
It already has so much 😍
@@Building.a.Dream-Barefoot_Jas its a good bit of kit, shame bluetti didnt give yu a battery bank or 2 to go with it. Yu always need a bit of storage when it rains for a day or 2. Give them enough plugs they might dip in again.
I think you need to bye a strong leaf blower so you can dry off your containers ,best of luck on your journey 👍
That’s a great idea thank you so much 🙏
Great job welding Jasmin
Thank you so much ☺️
Can you weld the offcuts from the flat bar to the outside of the containers to make scaffolding platforms then when you have done the outside walls you can grind it off then weld it onto the next section and so on
Thank you for the work you're doing.
That’s awesome advice thank you so much!
Jas my father in law was impressed with your welding skills. He said if only you were in Victora, he would have shown you tips and tricks of the art. He's been welding since the 70s.
Aw please tell him thank you so much! I’m slowly getting the hang of it , I’m sure he would be a true artist welding 🙌
@Building.a.Dream-Barefoot_Jas you're getting there. You are showing women that we can do anything if we put our minds to it. I'm renovating with my hubby at his nan's house. I just said yesterday I would get on the roof. I'm a strong, independent woman like Jas.
@@melindajane2299your renovating your husband? 😂

That's what I was wondering.. typo maybe? I hope! 😆
@@Emkamo-r1c fixed it opps typo mistake
let some presure off the rooler on your wire feed if it was to weld it self to the nib it will slip on the wire at the roller rather than nesting , saving you lots of time re feeding the wire youll just have to clear the nib , hope this helps and well done you doing great
Thank you I took the silver bit off and it solved all my problems ☺️🙏
Hey Jaz, might be worth making a light weight shelter (like a tent made of pallet wood and clearlight) that you can have over your work area and move as you progress. A bit of work but dry work area in the long term
Thank you 🙏
Something weird with that wire feeder, it should be perfectly horizontal from the roll to the lead inlet and the top roller should clamp on just firm. if it doesnt need inspection you could also run a bead of sikaflex over your welds in case there are pin holes
😂 yep I think you may be right! A wet few weeks left and then hopefully all that sunshine 🙌
Cheers Dave
awesome job from bluetti, i have been using my AC200 max and B300 battery for many things, i have 3 x 475 hyundai panels charging it at home and i have connected it to a victron orion smart charger to my car for quicker charging vs the ciggy lighter socket , btw you are doing an amazing job on the welder , im a qualified boilermaker
Oh wow you’ve got a bluetti system too! That’s so awesome! Yeah I’m still finding my feet with it and working all the little parts out but wow it’s already been so helpful while working on the containers instead of dragging a generator haha
Well done girl😊 Hhhugggeee amount of work for one person.
U have accomplished a lot .
Building the dream will al be worth it in the end for u. Respect and 👒 off. Proud of u
Thank you so much! Winter hasn’t made it easy but it’s making me more determined, slowly getting there day by day thank you for your support ☺️🙏
Im a Roofer, and can handle 10m sheets byself. If you lift one end up u can drag up easy. Another way is drill a hole in the underlap and use like cargo strap hook to use like fishing line to lift one end up onto the roof...
Wish was there to help but im 4000miles away
Oh yess!! Thank you so much this is exactly the information I needed! You’re a legend I appreciate it so much!
@@Building.a.Dream-Barefoot_Jas if you can get one end of the sheet up then the rest is easy ✌other way is stand underneath in the middle of sheet and flick one end up, from watching way u operate then I'm sure u be fine

Those wire brushes are excellent for cleaning up rust before priming the metal. I use them heaps. It's all going to be worth it as I watch the rain come down and it will all be worth it. Enjoy the journey.
They work so well hey! I’ve been so impressed but also with how long they last! I was going through so many strip discs a day! It will all be worth it I keep telling myself 😂🙏 thank you so much
I've had to use a tiger torch (Propane) to speed dry in between periods of rain. Easy to use but not sure what the rules are in your neck of the woods. I've also used to it dry out snow and ice. Just a thought. Keep going, you're doing great.
Ohh I’ve never heard of one I’ll look it up sounds amazing!
Hey up jaz buy some weld through primer comes in a spray can use it on the bare metal you've prepared will save you going back to re derust
Thank you so much that sounds perfect! 🙏
To quote the kids chant "Rain rain go away, come again on a non welding day."

get a huge sail cover every thing , no more rain problems
Wow sail cover that would be cool but expensive
perhaps it would be good to use an automotive seam sealer to use over the welds? makes them sure not to leak
They’ve passed the leak test, had water sat on the joins for weeks now and no leaks 🙌🙌
Good luck building your home Jasmin
Thank you so much 🙏
use your leaf blower to dry the container top.
Great idea!!
Want to buy land out in tara and do this.im 50 tho but you give me hope I can still do it i was going to go a geodesic dome but now I think be to hot i think shipping container to hot but maybe not ill see how you go,van wives use to be my favourite now think it you, stay real, work on your you tube presentation you will go far and could end up paying for your place from your patrons, your a great inspiration for all.
You definitely can still do it and I’ll try show as much of my process as possible so you can see how it goes ! 💪☺️ thank you so much for the compliment, I absolutely love van wives so that’s huge thank you I really appreciate it and I’m really happy you can join me on the journey 🙏
If your using flux core welding wire , remove the gas nozzle from the mig gun
Omg someone else told me to do this and I did it today and it changed my life! 🙌🙌
I would install a 'lean-to' style tarp over the join areas
That’s a great idea ! Thank you 🙏
when running gasless wire you should remove the nozzle at the end, I.e. not required
Yess I did this a few days ago and it’s been working amazing since!!
