The best plan for those Spruce trees is to get rid of them. The are planted in a way to make them grow fast beyond the root structure. In a storm, they will fall like dominoes. Its planted because it grows fast on poor soil and likely helps drainage where they are planted in the video, go on and cut all them down, best check you're not going to ruin anything first and that what ever trees you want to plant will actually grow in your lifetime. Another new subscriber here after seeing this in my recommendation list. I watched with joy and also teared up as you described the journey you have been on and showed us your beautiful plot. Looking forward to watching future episodes. Welcome to the Highlands, you won’t regret it. Many congratulations to you both.
the fact that people get so emotional and heart-pounding when finding a derelict piece of land to buy only shows how broken society is & how a "home" no matter what, is an innate need. 100k years ago, we could find a place, settle down, and build a shelter without being arrested by police for trespassing or for breaching planning laws. Having experienced both the top and bottom of society multiple times from my view, I can confidently say it’s absurd how today only the wealthy enjoy basic freedom that we've all had since the dawn of time.
I'm not jealous at all. No, really... 🙂 I wish you both all the luck in the world with your future projects on your new land. Can't wait to see your progress - strength to your arm(s) 🙂
Thanks for this video, came across very honest about the journey you've been on to actually acquiring land here in the UK. Very happy for you guys! Would love to do something like this
Congratulations 🎉 We built a timber frame house on our property in NI 2 years ago. Our builder works with a local university looking at thermal efficiency. He saved us a fortune on our SIP walls. He is a certificated Passive Home builder, but unlike most builders we met he was not out to rip us off. The insulation was blown into the SIP frames and bonded with graphite. He now builds pods. He might be worth a look as you are building your own home for as much or as little as you need. I’d love a plot like yours with a little off grid tiny house

It's so amazing to see the beginning and I'm excited to see what the future brings for you two. Thank you for sharing your journey with us.
Welcome to the Highlands. Wouldn't move anywhere else in the world. Looks like an awesome plot! I have a few suggestions, firstly it does look like those trees are past due to be taken out, I would check the owner as its one of 3 -private owned, community owned or Forestry commission. Knowing how owns it might help understand when and if they will be cut. Several years ago I had one of those trees land on my house, it made a real mess. If they do cut them down, I would be very cautious about leaving a thin boundary of them, they are grown packed in and it forces the tree to focus on hight and not solid root systems. They will blow over. I would probably plant some natural hard and soft wood trees within your own boundary now in preparation of the big pines going down (it will look nasty for a couple of years, but with most in the area now being re planted with more variety it will be on in the long run). How close to Inverness are you? If you need some more stones and have a trailer to move some I have on the croft you can have for free, but I'm not lifting any of the bolders 😂
Congratulations guys, just found your channel and look forward to following your new adventure 😊. I got emotional for you as I could see exactly what it means to you finding your dream plot ❤❤❤

Many congrats it looks fabulous. As done I said its fate. When you miss out on a property you tend to think you will never find another but there is always another and most likely better. The longer you look the more you tune into what you want and what’s important. I’m 61 and just starting over again after divorce and I found a place I never dreamed I could get. Over two acres , river frontage, fishing rights and a stone barn and workshop it’s mad. I will watch your progress and wish you all the best. Andy Uk
The Algorithm brought me here, but I've subscribed to help your budget! I look forward to seeing what you do with the place. Don't get attached to these trees - they are just an alien crop and will be gone before you know it. You need to look forward to what comes after them, which will be a much better forest, rather than a cold, dark, relatively-lifeless plantation. Trust me on this, it will grow rapidly and your surroundings will be much better. If you can buy that narrow strip at the bottom, do so! You will be able to open up your view and plant something much more appealing.
@@bv3bv334 That seems very unlikely and makes me wonder if you are unaware of current forestry practice in Scotland? At the absolute minimum, the plantation edges would be softened with a belt of native species, which would surround the plot. In any event, the estate has been in the same family for many years and the current owners appear to be conservation-minded. In all probability there will be a forest management plan published in advance of felling, with an opportunity for public consultation.
@@rb9580 You think every new plantation in Scotland will have its borders "softened", as you describe it, with native species. What does "softened" mean? If you are alluding to the planting of native stock for biodiversity, then it is now required. HOWEVER, the complete border? Nonsense. And a requirement to "surround the plot"...please point me to legislation that requires this. As for the current owners..."appear to be conservation-minded"....where do you get this information from? And your last sentence is utter nonsense. Whoever owns the land will harvest as and when they choose, and have absolutely no requirement to "consult" any member of the public prior to felling, or replanting.

Well done! Okay, you’ve got another sub and welcome to the highlands! Dealing with planning will depend which authority you come under (no idea where your plot is). Thank you so much!
@@livinginkevlar You're very welcome. We moved to Scotland over 20 years ago & now have two Scottish grandsons. All the best to you both.
So amazing you are an early part of the new world we are co creating. Great guardians of the land
We believe in what is meant to be will be. We have a nice bit of land similar maybe more woodland. What I would warn you about and you are probably going to have deer there so be aware of the ticks. They can be brutal, we had a husky and a nightmare. Unfortunately we lost him earlier in the year. But thought it be an idea to mention it. We have now had our land for two years and it is much better now. You will soon learn and it is very rewarding and calming. Good luck in your adventure.
Congratulations 🎉
Well done, guys... escape to the wilds !
Beautiful plot.
Many thanks!
Really lovely video, thank you for sharing this special moment, congratulations. I'm excited to see your progress.
Thank you so much for rooting for us, we're excited to have you along for the ride too.
Thank you. I’m glad you liked the video, plenty more to come ☺️
Your video popped up in my feed and I'm now excited to see your dreams come to fruition! The land looks amazing and full of potential! Nice you have a decent size hill nearby too!
Brilliant Congratulations... LOOKING FORWARD TO FOLLOWING YOUR JOURNEY.
Thank you, can’t wait to share it with you all!
Wow so excited for you looking forward to following your journey. Good luck 🎉
Thank you so much!!
Hope all works out well and it would be lovely to watch and share the transformation not only of the land but also yourselves. Its worked for others and no doubt others have failed..Sharing it with Isobella adds that constant piece of history..So many ideas for you.. and how much do you want viewers to be a part without intrusion. Crowdfund planks of wood, small engraved plaques from buyers. free cup of tea for those who visit, sell your souls to the tv channels for the story...worked for Dick and Angel. Will throw a few prayers up. first few verses of Psalm 40.. My first questions would be wheres the nearest builders merchant and what are the midges like....subscribed. My late sister was a bit of a wanderer most of her life but generally throughout wilder wales, a few weeks before she passed she bought a camper van, we used it to carry her body to an unmarked grave in a burial field.I will let Isobellas cairn be a reminder to me for the trees surrounding remind me of Wales forests.
MEGA! What a dream!
You’ve got a lot of hard work ahead but just imagine the end goal 🤩
Big dreams coming true are the best! It’s been a long time coming but we did it. Now the fun begins!
Another new subscriber here after seeing this in my recommendation list. I watched with joy and also teared up as you described the journey you have been on and showed us your beautiful plot. Looking forward to watching future episodes. Welcome to the Highlands, you won’t regret it. Many congratulations to you both.
Awesome! Thank you!
Aww big congratulations to you !! How fantastic ! Really looking forward to the next adventures xx
Thank you, we can’t wait to show you all!
the fact that people get so emotional and heart-pounding when finding a derelict piece of land to buy only shows how broken society is & how a "home" no matter what, is an innate need.
Hi, Wishing you both and the dogs, all the luck and Best wishes in the World!! A new beginning. Fantastic!!✌🤞
I'm not jealous at all. No, really... 🙂
I wish you both all the luck in the world with your future projects on your new land. Can't wait to see your progress - strength to your arm(s) 🙂
Thank you!
Good luck you two, we moved up here 7 years ago from Somerset and love it ... the locals are so great and welcoming 🙂
Good luck with your future adventures on your new land!! And welcome to Scotland 🏴!!
Thank you!
Thanks for this video, came across very honest about the journey you've been on to actually acquiring land here in the UK. Very happy for you guys! Would love to do something like this
Congratulations 🎉
We built a timber frame house on our property in NI 2 years ago.
Thanks, that’s good to know. Send over any details and links and we will check it out. Looking for as much help and advice as possible!
I watched a self build years ago and it was insulated using straw bails
Missed you guys. Was wondering this week what plans must be afoot and here comes my answer. Congratulations. Now off to watch the episode 😂😂😇😇🥰🥰
Thank you so much!!! We're very excited.
Welcome to Scotland, I'm looking forward to your endeavours.
Thank you! Look forward to sharing it with you all.
Well done team, great investment in a great part of the world! Enjoy the experience of building and living in such a beautiful spot.
Thank you so much!
Serendipity to you both. Sending you love and hugs. x
Thank you!
What a fantastic opportunity for you both, looking forward to your progress with this project 👍🏼
Brilliant news! Well done guys!! Looking forward to the vids 👌🏼
Thank you! Plenty to come 👍🏼
I’m so proud of you guys! You have your dream land and OMG it’s epic!!! The bird song was everything ❤
Thanks Meg, we owe it all to you ❤️
Hi congratulations to you both. And good luck with your land.
Thank you so much!
Welcome to Scotland. 🏴 All the very best for your new venture.
Welcome to Scotland and congratulations. I hope our beautiful country fulfills your dreams 😁
Thank you so much for the warm welcome! 🥰 People have either been lovely or full of hate for us wanting to embrace the highlands. It's sincerely our favourite place in the world. ✨️
@@sheisremote sorry you have received some hate, hopefully you’ll find most of us are welcoming. Unfortunately there’s always someone who doesn’t want to see anyone else doing something that makes them happy
@@sheisremote Take no notice, welcome to the Highlands !
Congratulations and welcome to beautiful Scotland.
Thank you! 😃
Okay, the algorithm brought me here and I'm happy to be a new subscriber, if that helps. I was young once and know the excitement you both feel. Live your dream! I'll be watching from the sidelines as long as you take me with you. At 64 I'm headed on a first time dream of seeing the world. Moving from USA to Portugal so I can discover all of Europe. I hope your dream becomes everything you imagined!
Nice comments, Europe has much to offer and takes a lifetime to see a fraction of it. What visa did you obtain so that you can stay for a long time?
I will be getting a D7 (known as retiree visa). Still have to get things aligned here to make it happen, Sell a1967 Mustang, house, three other vehicles. Downsizing to start anew.
You’re the guy that built the hidden projector screen 👏👏👏Amazing you’ve found that land
👏👏👍👍
Haha that’s me! Thank you!
Welcome to the Highlands, we are so lucky up here! We also have land to clear, we're still working on it but it's great seeing the progress and certainly keeps us fit! That looks like a fabulous plot, you will enjoy making plans, clearing the land and building yourselves a home, how lovely.
Thank you, nice to meet someone els with land up here.
Congrats guys! Very excited to see the build develop in the future :)
Thank you, can’t wait to get building now!
Brilliant, I will be watching closely as this is exactly what I have been looking to do. Enjoy
Thank you! Enjoy following along 👍🏼
Congratulations to you both and obviously they doggies, I will be watching this next series very closely as I'm a man that dose everything himself.
I'm sure it will be hard work and lots of emotions, but it's going to be so worth it.🎉
We did it for the dogs really! 😂 if you see me do anything wrong let me know, I’ve got a lot to learn. Cheers
So happy for you both can't wait to see how you do it
Haha me too! It’s going to be a big project. thank you.
Get yourselves some midge nets before starting anything😉
Good luck guys, ill be sticking with your progress🙏💙
Good shout 👍🏼😂
Wish you all the best for the future … an looking forward to the new life you are building
Thank you!
Good luck guys! Look forward to seeing your progress.
LOVED watching this, amazing, this is the dream 💫
Got to make those dreams a reality! Thanks for following along.
This is fantastic 👏.... i also moved from england to scotland.... more than happy to offer some days help when available
This looks like a lot of work. Very exciting but I imagine it will also be very daunting as well. Good luck. Can’t wait to follow your journey and look forward to seeing your completed home.
Fingers crossed!
Guys, I'm honored to be able to follow your journey. All those tears and hard work, research and all those miles went into this will well worth it in the end; you build for yourselves from now on. It's so amazing to see the beginning and I'm excited to see what the future brings for you two. Thank you for sharing your journey with us.
Thank you so much!
So chuffed for you guys. Looking forward to the build series already. Bring on the deserved 100K subs I've been hoping you have.
Thank you, we can’t wait to get started. And lots of content to come on this. Here’s to the 100k subs haha
Excellent, looking forward to watching your progress
I will be following the build! 🏴🩵 Off grid is the dream.
Thank you so much! ☺️
First came to you guys for a few "Van building tips." I am now invested in what you can do with this. Bloody awesome guys. Amazing potential. Genuinely stoked for you in this vid. My family of Huskies would be going nuts on "your land" Congratulations!! 🤯
Thanks for following along, we are very excited to start this new chapter and I can’t wait for fencing the land properly so the dogs can enjoy it as well.
Wow. That land was worth the wait. Im so happy for you both, good luck in your new venture. Looking forward to following your journey.. Fantastic 👍🥳
Well done ,happy ventures.😊
Thank you! 😃
You BOTH DESERVE this !!!!!!
What a beautiful gift !!!
Thank you for sharing 🙌🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thank you so much!!
Watching from Tasmania enjoy you new venture 🏡🐾
Awesome! Thank you!
amazing. well done you two. it looks fabulous
wow cam and Rachel you kept this quiet haha so chuffed for you 2 great video as always
It was the hardest thing to keep it quiet on both of our channels hahah - we coped by just dropping off the face of the earth for a few months while it all went through. 😅😅
@sheisremote you sure made us all wait I was wondering why there wasn't in a while so pleased for you both
Haha we had to! Sadly buying it took a lot longer than expected.
You bought a forest 😂. Best of luck, I will definitely be watching 🎉👍
A huge congratulations to you both 🎉
I was just thinking about you two today and if you had any news and yes best news ever well done and I’m not jealous much 😊
Looking forward to seeing you put your mark on the land
All the best ozzy
Thank you so much, we're so happy!
Thank you, we hoped to tell everyone sooner but it took longer than expected. Can’t wait to start on the land!
You two make me think of me and my wife when we were younger. Congratulations on acquiring your piece of heaven. Very few people get to do what you're doing. We relocated 6 years ago from South Africa to the UK and are also looking at moving up to Scotland somewhere. All the best with your journey. Looking forward to your next video.
Thank you! Hope you find your slice of heaven in Scotland as well.
So so so so SO excited for the next steps, babe!
Can’t wait!!!
If it is foresty land the same species will likely be planted after felling. And these trees may well not be felled for another 20 years.
Congratulations on the stunning property and welcome to Scotland! Looking forward to seeing what happens next in your adventure!
Congratulations on your property i love Scotland my self they have wonderful vewis you will injoy your self there iv just subscribe so I will be watching know on see you both on the next one stay safe
Thank you!
This is a dream of mine as well, though as a solo person and not financially stable, an off-grid lifestyle probably isn't for me just yet! I've decided to move to Scotland at some point, so I'm super happy for both of you and wish you all the best. I'll definitely subscribe and can’t wait to follow your journey. Well done to both of you!💛
Thank you so much and I hope one day you find your dream off grid home. Keep working hard and it will happen 👍🏼
Hi guys, looking forward to following your journey with the land you look supper excited. We also were after the the land that was auctioned off it was a shame it went for so much 😢
Good luck with the new place ❤
We couldn’t believe what it went for! It was in a lovely area wasn’t it. Thank you!
@@livinginkevlar even the second time, we didn't realise it was back up for sale but were in the middle of buying a bit of land near home in the Scottish Borders.
Well done! Okay, you’ve got another sub and welcome to the highlands! Dealing with planning will depend which authority you come under (no idea where your plot is). Easy enough to learn how to make and present drawings, don’t worry about that. Find your nearest neighbour that owns a jcb, takes the strain out of the heavy work and gets you moving forward. The very best of luck to you both, I have some bits and pieces here that may be of use to you.
Thank you! Good to know 👍🏼
💚 What a dream, I'm happy you guys found something. I wish you best of luck 🤙
Thank you!
Very happy for you both💪we’re looking to relocate to Scotland too. Good luck getting the planning
Thank you, hope to see you up here soon then. 🤞🏼
Half of England is moving up to Scotland 😂
Congratulations!
I just found your channel.
It will be so exciting to follow you and see what you are up to on the plot.
Thank you!
Ok I’ve subscribed, be interesting to watch your journey. You sound the kind of people we need in Scotland, ie not absent landlords or second holiday home. So I send heartfelt good wishes to you, take care 🌸
Thank you!
Agreed. The highlands have been a playground for the wealthy for too long, locals being forced out the housing market due to the difference in property prices down south compared to here in Scotland. It’s been so badly mismanaged.
