- Reformist candidate Masoud Pezeshkian won Iran’s runoff presidential election on Saturday, defeating hard-liner Saeed Jalili. Pezeshkian's campaign focused on outreach to the West and easing the mandatory headscarf law enforcement amidst years of sanctions and protests. He promised no radical changes to Iran’s Shiite theocracy, acknowledging Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as the final authority. Despite his modest goals, Pezeshkian will face challenges from a hard-liner-dominated government, the Israel-Hamas war, and Western concerns about Iran’s uranium enrichment. Authorities reported Pezeshkian received 16.3 million votes. Watch the broadcast to know more.
