    I assume the reason that most people didn't like 313 being the final boss is because there's no real climax to it. I think it would have come off a lot stronger if you find the Aurora unit, destroy it, and then Dark Samus emerges from its remains, and you face off one last time.

    • @chalybee8689
      @chalybee8689 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think it would have been much better. Dark samus was the best fight and aurora unite was boring as hell. I found it to be a weak ending to the trilogy where dark samus is the main vilain.

    • @TyDreacon
      @TyDreacon ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Exactly my thoughts. Not just climax, but also that there's a bit of a "wait, huh?" when shooting Dark Samus herself doesn't kill her, but blowing up her "mech suit" does. Sure, it destabilizes Phaaze and makes sense in hindsight, but it's not super intuitive.
      Plus, think of what it would mean to be fighting Dark Samus afterwards. Blowing up the unit is meant to destabilize the planet, yet Dark Samus keeps the thing in one piece while fighting Samus herself. That speaks volumes to the kind of villain you're taking down.

      I prefer how it is now. You have the personal fight with Dark Samus, who you hate after they corrupted your hunter buddies, then have to fight the Aurora Unit. It feels like the Aurora Unit is the actual massive threat the game builds up to, in which Dark Samus stands in the way of. The Aurora Unit felt like fighting pure Phazon itself, or sort of like a new Mother Brain monster again. I don’t think Dark Samus should be the final boss of 2 games.

    5:22 Speaking of the multiple Berserker Lords, fun fact: you can kill the one in the Pirate Homeworld in 1 hit with either the X-Ray Visor or the Screw Atrack, whichever one is funnier.
    You can also have your ship bomb the one at the start of Bryyo Jungle.

    Man everytime I see videos of the Prime games like this one it throws me back in time. About 10 years ago I attempted to beat all the Prime games (& Fusion) on hard, without picking up any additional E-Tanks or Missiles. I was never able to finish any of the games like this, because the end game just becomes insanely hard.
    Prime 1 had the Phazon Mines and the Omega Pirate that are almost impossible with zero E-Tanks. Prime 2 had the freaking Boost Guardian and Quadraxis, both fights that constantly damage you. Metroid Prime 3 was actually the easiest, since it forces you to pick up at least 2 E-Tanks. But Mogenar was still a huge pain in the ass and almost drove me crazy. The rest of the game and the bosses were quite easy actually, unfortunately I also never beat that game under these conditions. But got incredibly close a few times (Aurura Unit final phase).

  • @christopherjohnson3755

    I really liked Mogenar, I was craving more difficulty from 3D Metroid bosses and this delivered. Mogenar can be managed by staying in hypermode and managing your phazon levels, which is a good skill to teach at that stage given how useful it is later in the game. Overall Bryyo had good bosses (both hunter and seed boss), whereas on Elysia, Ghor and Helios were too easy and over far too quick. I felt they were a letdown after Rundas and Mogenar.

    • @Cytonox
      @Cytonox  3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I find Mogenar's brand of difficulty to be far closer to tedium, but I can get where you're coming from. I think putting him in the earlygame is really weird though since it makes the difficulty curve wonky. I think Gandrayda is a far better example of a hard boss since she's placed at a good spot progression-wise and is much more fun in my opinion. Glad at least someone can enjoy Mogenar though

      i feel Mogenar was hard for all the wrong reasons.

    • @Ageleszly
      @Ageleszly 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah agree. I kinda like how many unique features are to this boss. I get that he was designed to be probably very stamina draining, which can be felt as tedious.
      I always got the feeling it's a battle of ressources, him regaining his orbs will make it more likely that your energy tanks won't suffice, before you can deplete his health bar. I also like how the fight is designed around the hyber beam, while for some other bosses it feels more like a cheese, on this fight the clever use is definitely mandatory.
      I also think it's weird how hard Mogenar is compared to the other Leviathan Bosses, but that's why he stands out to me, especially because he is the only one where you don't just dodge and shoot, you really need a good approach and precision. So I think he would've been better as an later boss but with upscaled damage then of course. :P

    My theory about Ridley always returning is that the space pirates manage to find...bits...of him left over after each encounter with Samus and clone a new one with the DNA. They certainly have the technology, and as conquest and power-driven as they are, it makes sense that they'd always want a trump card in the form of their mainstay, Ridley.

    There is an easier way to handle Mogenar but it’s very risky since you have to spend a lot of the fight in hyper mode and let yourself get corrupted. Abusing this lets you get rid of his orb shield but because of the armor boots you can still only destroy one at a time usually.
    This pretty much turns a 10 minute boss fight into a 4 minute burn phase where if you execute it properly you’ll have a much faster battle but if you slip up he’ll regain a quarter of his health while you’ve wasted an energy tank worth of yours. That’s not even counting for the instant game over you could get by being fully corrupted.

    Personally, I thought Mogenar was the BEST fight in the game. Yeah, they could have shortened it a bit by getting rid of the one on his back, but I think the idea of a boss with weakspots that move around is interesting. I feel it also had the most varied moveset of any boss in the game, making it very engaging in how you move around and dodge its attacks. I also didn't understand the comments about his difficulty. The only difficulty I had with Mogenar my first time playing was figuring out that I needed to use the phazon beam on his weak spots after destroying the red orbs. After that, it seemed pretty evenly balanced; the rest of the seed bosses felt too easy in comparison.

      @KayFiOS 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Cytonox He was definitely the lowest point! I am so glad no other boss was that bad. I'm also glad to see Gandrayda placed pretty highly here; she takes the top spot for me, mainly because I was knocked down to 2 HP, then took 1 HP from accidentally stepping into the acid rain, so I had to finish Gandrayda while avoiding literally everything she threw at me! I just concentrated on throwing Seeker Missiles at her in clusters of five, and I wasn't even looking at her health meter, so I thought I was toast for a second when the cutscene broke that concentration. I don't think I've ever been knocked down to 1 HP during a boss fight before, and I feel like I deserve a Friend Voucher for that!

    I kinda like how Aurora Unit 313's appearance as the final boss acts as an inversion of Dark Samus's creation. it fuses with the Unit, reverting back to a form close to how it Originated as the Metroid Prime, kind of a loop.
    Still kind of a thud ending tho, would have been interested to see how Samus escapes Phaaze (although my bet is she calls the ship, the planet is quite hollow as it is)

  • @GarryDumblowski
    @GarryDumblowski ปีที่แล้ว

    Something I'd like to point out is that Dark Samus uses the abilities of the three other hunters, including the Plasma Beam and the same ice pillars that Rundas summons. I forget what moves she copies from Gandrayda but you could argue some of her charging attacks are based on her moveset.

  • @DanielMazahreh
    @DanielMazahreh ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The #14 dead last boss is not legit criticism, because it’s basically a YOU problem if the boss is dragging on. You’re just not good at taking him down efficiently yet. Replay the game again.

  • @Blitz1Blacktail1
    @Blitz1Blacktail1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I didn't think Mogenar was that bad, but to make it so you had to really abuse the mechanics of Hypermode, from its damage to just using it as an invulnerability mode. Like when you realize you can just hypermode and lay down normal bombs for its feet because you don't have the ability yet, its a cakewalk, but it also makes the fight just tedious. Basically, I don't think he's as bad, but if I had to rank him, he'd be at the bottom too.
    Which speaks volumes of the bosses in this game in general. I agree so much with Omega Ridley, heck I put that fight on number one for me. Overall MP3 has my favorite bosses, only really beat out by Quadraxis and Meta Ridley for me, and on equal grounds to Emperor Ing and Metroid Prime.

    the main problem with mogenar as you said was that you came in with so little energy tanks. Despite it being obnoxious i would place it higher than helios because with helios you can kinda just end him as soon as his face opens up. Mogenar forces you to use hypermode to the fullest. When he rains Rocks down, i just go into hypermode to not take damage. if i know im about to break a red orb, i go into hypermode early to get corrupted to get more use out of it.

    With Mogenar: when you’re shooting the red circles on him you have to make you’re not too close that you can’t avoid his attacks but not too far away because you’re power beam will be too slow to destroy them all. Getting the right distance on him makes him a lot easier.

  • @agenerichuman
    @agenerichuman 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    You certainly got the worst boss right. That fight tries to juggle too many ideas and is also difficult to master given its timing. It's far too punishing for such an early boss too. It's not hard; it's just you have such little room for error and you'll be punished by tediously farming energy and doing the same thing you've been doing the entire fight or worse... restarting from square one.
    The fight is deceptively presented too. It makes you think you can take him much more quickly with much less resources. And up until this point, you likely haven't been using your hyper beam enough to get to low health from it, so it's easy to drain all your health very quickly with no real way to recover most of it, especially given how easy it is to miss its weak points due to tricky timing.. It feels like a trap to punish beginners without adding the depth to make the fight interesting for returning players.
