Good Morning! Andy, STAPLES has a great electronic recycling program. They take cables, speakers, and even old coffee makers and will properly recycle them. Consider dropping off that box at your local Staples store, rather than sending it to the landfill.
Thank you, Andy, for joining in the fun and allowing us to share your journey to a productive and effective office - I very much appreciate it. Also, Erica, when you were panning over the basement and describing the before and after and saying how proud you were that you'd gotten to this place, I couldn't help but almost applaud over on my side of the screen - because yes yes yes! It has been an epic journey and you are in a very good place - even if you were to move tomorrow you'd already be in a much improved position - I think it's been a marvellous achievement and I've so enjoyed the journey - thank you for bringing us along for these last boxes from the first round.
I’ve been binge watching your videos from 1-3 years ago. I’m so impressed with your methodology and how ruthless you have been with yourself in decluttering massive amounts of stuff. You are always so respectful and kind with your husband, never pressuring him, and he is also so respectful and collaborative with you. It’s so refreshing to see the teamwork and communication you two have in this process 😊
I was laughing out loud watching you guys. Men and their cords and external hard drives = the greatest love story in America. The desire to keep them ALL is mystifying to me. My husband is a minimalist to the core, but when it comes to cords and external hard drives (and thumb drives), he hoards them. It's so funny!
Wow, when you said you'd been unpacking and decluttering for 2 years I actually had to go back and check as i didn't believe its been that long! Crazy that I've been following your channel for YEARS now. You've been a part of my life for longer than my child has existed. 🤯 that sound you just heard is my brain exploding 🤣
You both have come so far in the past two years! Working together to clear out hundreds of bins and boxes probably would’ve resulted in arguments with a lot of couples, but you two have concise clear communication and discussions that results in progress! I love these videos!
“Some point I’m gonna need to build another computer.” My Al says the same thing. ☺️ The cord anxiety is real. I can say with absolute certainty that I despise decluttering electronics. Great teamwork, y’all!!
“Oh that was really fast” - that had me chuckling! Andy is building his decluttering muscles. You were very patient with him. I’ve loved your journey, you are a wonderful family.
Erica, I used to watch you *agonize* over decluttering the most obvious things, and you had so stinking much! Now- your entire life looks more streamlined and you've really nailed down the fact that more isn't necessarily better. I wish we had a visualization of how much in TOTAL you've decluttered because WOW.
The WINK!!! Oh my word, that was priceless! Jack is going to be a ladies man in a couple of years. 😍. I have a small tote of cords I go thru yearly. But now, instead of guessing what cord is for what, I now label every cord when we buy something. No guessing at all!
Erica I have been watching you from the beginning of your journey and you and your family deserve kudos for how well you have maintained your decluttered home.I watch other channels too and I am frustrated that some of them throw a lot of clutter away and get organized but 6 months later they are decluttering and throwing away new stuff the have acquired. Good job 👏🏻
Use a heavy drill and drill holes thru any old hard drives before tossing. Makes them completely unreadable since there will still be files on them even though “wiped clean.”
PREACH - ignoring free items is one of the top things I had to learn. 🤧 It’s so hard to pass up those “good/useful/expensive” things - I had too many excuses and projects that NEVER got completed. 🤦♀️ Love this Erica.
JACK melts my heart, as do all your kids, but when Jack said ladies first OMG, I just can’t, plus the wink to his little girlfriend 🥰 Love when you and Andy declutter together, your much more patient then I am, my hubby tells me I have never have problem saying his stuff can go lol😂😂😂😂😂😂
Hey guys I wanted to tell you that I've been watching you for years but I haven't commented ever. Today, I needed to comment to tell you how much videos with your husband are my favorite. I love how you guys work together calmly to sift through things and make decisions. I really love how he explains his thoughts as he goes through his boxes or bins. He doesn't just say what he's keeping or getting rid of he also tells me why. I find it very helpful to hear how people think through things because I'm able to use some of that same logic when sifting through my stuff after being inspired by your video. Please do more videos together like this. They are my favorite.
Donate the calculator to your local elementary school or middle school. When my children were at the age they needed those, the school would provide them. They were always asking for donations. It didn't have to be fancy, just a scientific calculator. Also, free on facebook marketplace.
Jack is such a sweet little boy! I love seeing him in your videos! He says the cutest things. I also enjoy watching Andy help with decluttering projects.
Great progress! I laughed when Andy said he "just" needed to check the hard drives, get anything off of them, clear them, and toss them. That has "just" been a to-do item on our list too - for five years or more! I highly recommend some more shelving in your basement; it has been wonderful for us, and now the storage area is reduced by half and the rest is for gym equipment.
My parents have had this on their to-do list for 20 years now. That's also how long they've been paying for storage units. Yes - multiple. 🤦but they've cleared a couple, and even found a handful of journal entries.
You guys have done so much work down there! Maybe move the Christmas and fall boxes in another area so Andy's office space only has Andy's office things. Maybe closer to the stairs so its easier dragging them in and out of the basement when you need them.
Andy: it's not worth anything ... for the single parent making $10 an hour with a kid (or 4) who needs one of those for an advanced science/math class it means the WORLD!
Every area is different, but there are places that will do ecycle so you can take power cords and electronics. Just a suggestion to keep these out of landfills.
So glad to see others posting about electronics recycling! It’s good to keep those metals out of the landfill. Congratulations on continuing work in the basement!
Cords, chargers, and msic IT stuff adds up quick and why do we hang onto it????? I realized as your Husband was sorting this stuff out he also came to realize that it needed to go. I am so proud of him as I know he is on board now with your decluttering. I have watched your channel for awhile and started back at the time you made decision to declutter and downsize your stuff. I say thank you to your family for sharing with us this journey and a few good laughs along the way with the things you found when unboxing these unknown treasures.....
Your status and mine are similar. I finished my first go around, and now am slowly doing a second go around. It is amazing how much more I get rid of the second time! It takes time to fully declutter!
I love this series! Question for you as you have moved so much: what are some of the first things you setup at a new home to get it feeling like home? We are moving for the first time as a family with a toddler and baby and I want to get it feeling like home as quickly as possible. A few things I've thought of already: 1. Getting our wreath on the door 2. Hanging up our calendar and current invitations/cards (as we do this in our current home) 3. Getting laundry going 4. Have family for dinner 5. Diffuse essential oils What do YOU do to get a new house to feel like home on day one?
Getting the kitchen fully set up, everyone’s beds fully made, and making sure everyone has their daily hygiene and grooming items ready to go are good tips I’ve seen. Depending on how long the kitchen setup will take vs. the beds and bathroom items, I know some people like to have disposable kitchenware ready as soon as they move in
I appreciate you sharing your journey with us, I love minimalism. I just rarely see videos that start from the beginning. Every once in awhile I check back and you have made so much progress.
Do you have safe electronic disposal in your area? On the west coast, we’re required to dispose of it safely. They don’t make it easy, though. I haven’t found a convenient electronic disposal place. 😊🤷🏻♀️
Great work!👍..love how Andy is so behind you on your journey and with your you tube channel😊. What I always find sad is, you would have had only 50% of the boxes if your packing companies had packed properly and efficiently😭. Then unpacking would not have always been so "overwhelming." I am so glad I always pack for my moves.. And after 13 moves since I was 18, I love using moves for another forced declutter!.. I colour code my boxes for rooms and writing lists and numbers on each box so I know exactly what is in them... It makes the moves easy. The movers just have to look at the colour codes and put the boxes with that colour in the corresponding room (which has the colour code on the door). I always have a list at the entrance of the house with the floors and rooms on each floor with the colour code, so when they come in the house, they can immediately see if the room the box should go in is on the ground floor, 1st or 2nd floor or attic etc. That makes their work easier because they don't have to ask. Looking forward to the basement reorganization video! 🙂 PS. Hope you recycle the electronics.. Please do not send to landfill.
Brilliant! Have been looking forward to seeing more of the basement. Particularly excited to see the second round and working your way through the 'future projects' x
Well done to you both. That’s some pile of electrical stuff. I would definitely see if you can recycle any of it. Jack is such a gent. My heart went out to you going through your brother’s belongings. Hope your minding yourself and taking the time you need. Stay safe and healthy. Mary, Joes wife 👏💪👍💐🙏
I am very impressed you could get your leg up on sink to shave your leg! 😮 Love your hair too! So many people with curly hair never embrace it's beauty! 💛
You two have made so much progress!!! It’s so exciting to see the difference and hear how much you’ve gone through. I still have pockets I know I have too much in but thankfully I can go through them at a less hurried pace than when Covid first started and I decluttered like crazy almost a manic need to just get rid of stuff.
I used to have a couple of boxes - one that was for "mystery cords" and one that had "mystery keys". I actually just popped cords / keys into the appropriate boxes, and then put a date on each one for a year into the future. I know you'll never guess ...... a year later I had not opened either box. So I trashed the keys and recycled the cords, without guilt or stress.
It looks like you can benefit from some repackaging and organizing the basement before you do a second round of decluttering so you know you have everything together.
I am a retired Navy civilian. At Pearl Harbor we had a few "electronics disposal" events each year. Not sure what they did with them but we could get rid of our personal stuff.😁
FYI - there are companies that recycle electronics. It is not really okay to trash them. I don't know if you have a Best Buy in the US, but any electronic store should have a recycling program. "At some point I'm going to need to build another computer." ... I also have a techie husband. I've heard these words in my own home, as well as having boxes of unknown cords, cables and old tech gear. Love the man, live with his tech. 🤣

In both their defenses my husband spent a summer working at a church thrift store and he knows what will end up in the donation places garbage.
Will Andy remember what he wants to do with those things? Or would a sticky note on top saying "wipe + trash" or smtg help? Love the basement unpacking videos and really enjoy when Andy is involved. His decluttering skills are really strengthening or maybe it’s just having him take the time to sift thru it?? Based upon the comments, I’m guessing you’ve already taken what you can for e-recycling. A word of caution on Adam’s Comcast stuff, you may want to triple check that those pieces can just be tossed. I’ve seen many credit reports where the Internet provider has dinged folks with collection accounts because they didn’t return supplies. I’m so sorry for your loss 💔.

If the calculator is a ti84 keep it! Depending upon your schooling in high school, many high schools may require them and they are expensive!
Good job
