People believe they have extraordinary value to the world. These kids are taught that the world exists to serve and provide for them individually. Young ppl develop better when they realize they are basically just a burden on the world around them. That realization can motivate them to MAKE themselves of more use/value to society.

I look at life in this manner... Everything ends, and this is merely a temporary existence. Live life like it's a game you love playing. People replay said games to break them after playing it so many times, so go out and break the matrix of life. Find the bugs, and enjoy just playing. Fear nothing, learn all you can, love what you have and those in your life, even if it's your enemy for the antagonist makes the game fun. I smile at a difficult challenge for I know it will add to my experience and will better myself overall, even if that experience is more of a nightmare. Failure is merely a learning tool.

Mike Rowe (Dirty Jobs) at one point mentioned how OSHA regulations actually increase workplace accidents, because people think, "Oh, well, my safety is already looked after," and they end up doing foolish things that they would have not otherwise done had there been a risky working condition, putting their minds in the "I better be careful," mindset. Most accidents happen due to complacency, which leads to not paying attention to your surroundings.
When people feel safe, they let their guard down in situations they really shouldn't.

    This is so true.
There are two perfect examples of this in New Zealand. The Pike River Mine Disaster in 2010 where our government sat on its butt and did NOTHING to help these men. And the White Island eruption in 2019 where the government again did NOTHING to help because it was unsafe.
The Governments response to the white island eruption completely DISGUSTED me, 50 years ago there would have been hundreds of boats going over to white island to help survivors without ANYONE caring about their own "safety".
It did tell New Zealand one important thing though. If there is a major disaster in New Zealand, the Government is not going to be there to help until it is "safe" for them to do so. The New Zealand Government is becoming POINTLESS for New Zealand!

Same in the US. Over-regulation is killing industry. Here, you can't even start a business without a massive outlay of cash and time to get through all the regulations, paperwork, and fees - IF you can get through it all within a certain time limit (which is fairly short); and if you don't, you have to start all over, and that time and money are gone.

The First World mindset killed me; the gods of Health & Safety, the rules and regulations, the obsessive blaming of government institutions and policy whenever someone got hurt, it's crazy. You don't know how crazy until you've stepped out of it. After 7 years, I returned to my more dangerous and wonderfully wild developing country, much happier for it.

If fear and safety were one side of a coin, uninhibited risk and the message of this vid would be the other side of the same coin.
There are occasions and seasons for risk and there are occasions and seasons for safety and protective measures, but life is rarely an all or nothing endeavor. Most of the time, most people are just fine with a reasonable dose of risk tempered with some common sense safety measures, or risk management. In a word, balance.
Not much can be accomplished without risk, but risk can always be mitigated with safety measures. For example, sending out soldiers into a battle is inherently risky to the soldiers, the mission and the the country, but providing Kevlar body armor, state of the art weapons and tactical equipment, and employing tactical strategy minimizes risks and improves chances for the soldiers to complete the objectives and live to fight another battle.

I say safety is a personal responsibility, and should not necessarily be a government mandate.
Now, I will say this - there are things where a government SHOULD mandate certain safety protocols - food handling, for example, or underground mining, medical cleanliness, hazardous waste disposal, things of this nature.
But I also think there are certain things that shouldn't be regulated - letting kids be kids, and suffering the bumps and bruises (and occasional broken bones) of growing up - this is how we learn to take risks with a large dose of common sense.

    • @emmanuelweinman9673

@@TexJester-no8th but there is a reason why certain rollercoasters have hight requirements and certain places are no kid zones. It’s funny to me how you think the government should regulate safety in some areas but not others. I agree over-regulation is harmful for growth and just pure expression of spirit. But guidelines need to be in place to steer us forward just like a road needs to be built and have lines to drive. Now how we punish those who steer outside the guidelines is the most important part of it in my opinion. How much do we punish and reward ourselves as a society for our actions? It varies. There are parts of the world that are stricter or more free. Up to you where you want to be

The problem with this video, although it has a lot of good points about “safety culture” in the West, is that it presents the ones who trade safety as more lazy than it usually is. Usually there’s an actual threat to BOTH ones liberty and/or security (invasions, civil wars, terrorist attacks, etc.), then the State comes in and offers to protect their security with at price of freedom. War is called the health of the State by some, in part, because war is often the death of freedom.

    • @gnarthdarkanen7464
      @gnarthdarkanen7464 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Ask the folks who made careers building up Charlie Hebdo how the State did such a great job of keeping out the terrorists and threats on their lives...
..oh yeah... Terrorists got guns and went to Paris and shot Charlie Hebdo to pieces... maybe not a good ask.
Do you REALLY believe you're going to be immune to any such threats as you mentioned because of protections of "The State"???
How'd New York do? They had THE stock-market of the U.S. centralized (more or less)... BUT 9/11/01...
...and gutsy passengers fought back to crash the plane in Pennsylvania rather than let the attackers put it in the White House...
...Even the Pentagon took the hit, with the centralized leadership of the U.S. military inside and hard at work...
What about Ukraine just now? They have a legal requirement for every man of age to enlist for military training and service... AND yet, here we are... AND the UN with their International Leadership too scared sh*tless to step up against Putin...
AND every bit of his antics has been in his speeches for years... They KNEW what was coming. It's not like he remotely tried to keep any secret... still NOTHING.
SO I ask you again... DO you really think you're so protected because of "The State"???
There simply aren't enough police to have one available to help STOP a criminal attack on your person whenever someone decides to get violent with you. You have to call them (dial 911) and then WAIT until they show up to do anything... SO probably they'll mop up the mess and make a case if anything or anyone is left in enough shape to get to court...
There aren't enough National Guard to assure some disaster or covert operation or rebellion doesn't catch you in the "crossfire" or "collateral damage"... They have to get notice and respond to orders, the same as any other part of the military...
Laws are fine and all, but they must be enforced by PEOPLE... That includes you and me at some level. If we don't help put "real teeth" in the laws and the consequences of breaking them, then there is no point in those laws...
AND the same carries forward and upward all the way to the UN... and the International Courts on Warcrimes... utterly useless if nobody's willing to step up against the bully or lunatic.
"Safety" offered by anyone is a lie. It's an illusion just like control. You have none... ever. AND giving up your freedoms in the interest of gaining this illusory substance is a neverending proposition to enslave yourself to people smart enough to make you believe in it.

I feel like promoting the ideal of being a warrior is still not the answer, but I also agree that constantly looking for safety is an obsessive thought that will ultimately never be satisfied. There’s definitely a balance, and I believe that balance is acceptance. There is no need to search for safety, however we do have survival instincts and that’s what keeps us alive, it’s a matter of being able to think for yourself and finding comfort and safety even when you are experiencing something new. Don’t seek pain, don’t seek conflict, don’t seek harm. Rather, accept that it is sometimes part of the human experience, that peace is never going to happen in the world, just look at nature, there is no peace, but there is balance. Strive for balance, not for peace, not for war.
