This has always been my favorite. Patrick Stewart is a Classically trained Shakspearian actor and it has always made his performances extremely powerful and well done. A good movie to watch in addition to any of the Christmas Carol movies is the story of Charles Dickens. He is author who created A Christmas Carol and the movie of his story is called "The Man Who Invented Christmas".
I had to buy this DVD because it wasn't available to stream...and for once, a movie made me emotional. The whole Tiny Tim scene. Patrick Stewart was doing a one-man-show of A Christmas Carol while filming for Star Trek. He's a stage actor first.
@BDUBZ49 i don't get emotional over movie or TV characters...I she'd a tear over Titanic, more for the real life event than what was on screen. And a certain death scene in a certain James bond movie (spoiler)
The actor who plays Scrooge’s nephew Fred in this movie is Dominic West. Mr. West played Fred Casely in the 2002 movie “Chicago,” and was the final Prince Charles actor for Netflix’s series “The Crown.”
I Just wanted to highlight just how bad the Workhouses were in real life. My Nan was born in 1900 she had an elder sister and a younger brother. Her father was a farmer and they came on hard times and in 1902, while the mother was pregnant, had to go into a workhouse (Which basically was a prison). On entering the workhouse the family was forcefully separated so children were taken away from their mother and the mother and father were separated (My nan always thought she was an orphan as she was 2 years old when it happened and never saw her parents again). The mother and father had to do hard labour for 12 hours a day and only were fed gruel (boiling water with a handful of oats). Because of the conditions my nan's dad died in the workhouse (at the age of 29) just a year after going in, my nan’s mother gave birth to a baby girl in the workhouse who also died at just 5 months old, and her younger brother died at the age of 3 in the workhouse. Somehow my nan survived the workhouse and was sent out to work at the age of 12 as a scullery maid. So I hope this lends some more impact as to what Scrooge was advocating for in the story!
I've always loved the Alastair Sim version. And I'll admit to a fondness for Henry Winkler's turn in an Americanized version set during the Depression.
All the best Scrooges start with S: Stewart, Scott and Sim. Stewart has a lot of little touches. Sim has a scene after the Marley visit, where he calls the cops and tells them, "There was a spirit in my house!" "Sure thing; give us a call if you have any more spirits."
I just wish they could have got him to say " engage " when a spirit " spirited " him off. I forgot how good this version is. I usually watch the Muppets & George C. Scott.
It's on Paramount+ to stream. Outside of that, there's a DVD out there for a few bucks. It's definitely one of the top adaptations out there in my eyes, up there with Scrooged, Muppet, and the 1984 variant. There's also The Man Who Invented Christmas, which came out years ago, and is a good companion flick to A Christmas Carol as it's about Charlies Dickens as he's conceiving the book.
Maybe I’ve seen this story a few many times because when I saw this version, I found myself more interested in whether or not Topper and Betsy from Fred’s dinner party got together after this. I mean aside from Patrick Stewart’s performance, there isn’t much that makes this retelling stand out from other ones. At least Michael Caine got to act opposite muppets and Kelsey Grammer got to do a musical.
I’ve watched a few versions of this movie this week so I could watch the reactions from you and the others. I liked this one a lot, the one Nicki watched might be my favorite, with the Muppet Christmas Carol 2nd and this third (though all very close together) with Scrooge’s way, way at the bottom because it’s just barely an adaptation of the book. But I’ve had a fun week. Thank you and the others.
The actor who played Ebenezer as a young man that you couldn't place is KENNY DOUGHTY. He has been in "snowpiercer" and "Wire in the Blood." He was also the main character in a movie called "The Aryan couple." It is based on true events and well worth watching. MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎅
Excellent reaction this is my favorite version of the Christmas Carol by far next only to Muppet Christmas Carol by and of course Mickey’s Christmas Carol was my three favorites so what would be this one then Mickey and Muppet is my favorites in that order cause I love when scrooge mick duck play Scrooge thanks for the fun. Have a merry Christmas and a happy new year have a safe and happy holidays for you and your whole family and all your friends too till next time
I enjoy this version it has the best representation of the ghost of christ past portrayed by Joel Grey. I also enjoy the musical version Scrooge from 1970 and Alistair Sim's version from 1951 which has the best storyline and atmosphere.
Which one is the musical version? It's the Alistar Sim one, right? One of my absolute FAVORITES!!!! "Thank you very much. Thank you very much. That's the nicest thing that anyone's ever done for me!"
Leia, do yourself a favor and on your own, watch a Christmas Carol from 1938 starring Reginald Owen. Once you have finished watching it, you’ll understand why I am suggesting it for you.
@popcornroulettereactions I'm not sure what she's sen but grandma's boy is always a good one, any of the lord of the rings or starwars is always a winner in everyone's book. Hacksaw ridge is also a very good movie, you might need tissues but that's because it's a real story but an epic one

@popcornroulettereactions If you're up for a creepy suspense film, I would suggest "The autopsy of Jane Doe." Saying it's atmospheric is an understatement !
Patrick Stewart did a stage show version of this story where he played all the characters, 30 in total. He toured it for 20 years.
This has always been my favorite. Patrick Stewart is a Classically trained Shakspearian actor and it has always made his performances extremely powerful and well done. The Alistair Sim version, "Scrooge" 1951, is still my favorite, followed by George C. Scott and then Patrick Stewart.
I agree, except I would put the George C. Scott first, then Alistair Sim, the Patrick Stewart, then Albert Finney.
@@j.woodbury412 That would be exactly my ranking.
@@tubekulose Great minds think alike!
This is my all time favorite version and I have seen MOST of them ... its my favorite Christmas Story.
Can't wait, this is my favorite version of A Christmas Carol.
Mine too 😊👍

What? Bizarre.
I'm glad i waited a few days to watch this on Christmas morning. It was the first time I have seen the Patrick Stewart version too. Merry Christmas!
I just wish they could have got him to say " engage " when a spirit " spirited " him off. I forgot how good this version is. I usually watch the Muppets & George C. Scott.
You always have great reviews, I love a Christmas Carol the 1970 musical, its really good.

The actress who played Belle is stunning and looked so familiar I had to look her up, she was in Breaking bad!
Laura Fraser. “Lydia.”

Merry Christmas, Leia 🥰
loved it. Merry Christmas!
Leia breaking hearts with that smile.
I watched this on TV at my grandma's about 20 or so years ago.
The actor playing Fezziwig was also Baron Harkonnen in the 2000s tv miniseries
Your looking very cosy there Leia, perfect way to enjoy this film

28:13 he ran out of breath laughing because he hasn't laughed since he was child i believe.
This is my favorite! It has things no other version does.
Ah yes, Captain Jean Luc Scrooge.

Leia, ifn u don’t know, Charles Dickens wrote a Christmas Carol in 1843.
I enjoy this version it has the best representation of the ghost of christ past portrayed by Joel Grey. I also enjoy the musical version Scrooge from 1970 and Alistair Sim's version from 1951 which has the best storyline and atmosphere.
I love this version too...have dvd...it's heart breaking 💔 when he let his girl walk away 😢
SCROOGE (1970) with Albert Finney is a great musical adaptation of A CHRISTMAS CAROL.
Patrick Stewart act this role masterfull and realistic, in true Charles Dickens spirit in true Victorian era.
Which one is the musical version? It's the Alistar Sim one, right? One of my absolute FAVORITES!!!! "Thank you very much. Thank you very much. That's the nicest thing that anyone's ever done for me!"
Nope! Albert Finney version! Just looked it up! lol
This is one of my favorite versions
Hi Leia hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤
🙏
The 1951 version starring Alastair Sim is, IMO, the version that all others have fallen short of.
Ah! Leia!
Try the Albert Finney version
Joel Grey’s Ghost Of Christmas Past is the closest to the way Dickens writes that character than any other actor I’ve seen onscreen.
Leia, do yourself a favor and on your own, watch a Christmas Carol from 1938 starring Reginald Owen.
Once you have finished watching it, you’ll understand why I am suggesting it for you.
Underated version of the story
Please could you react to 101 Dalmations (1996) live action? it’s a classic 😊
this has to be the comfiest fit I've seen on any react-tuber
I have the audiobook with Patrick narrating. Also good
A good version but not as good as the 1951 version with Alistair Sim as the definitive Scrooge 😊😊😊
We wear the chains we forged in life. Elon Musk's is a PONDEROUS chain.
Leia watch Patrick Stewart again in X-Men. It's totally worth it 👌.
No watch him star trek first
@danielhead8123 Good. I don't watch Star Trek, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings not even Game of Thones.
I want to watch the videos with Leia but all the reactions she's been doing are just not that interesting or they've been over done a dozen times
I’m taking requests
