    Wasps will make homes anywhere, funny. Shows that it sat for awhile. Must've been a pretty big dobber. Too bad you didn't get a picture of it before you took it out. I just love watching your informative videos! 👍 Keep up the good work! 💪

    Since that model is per-vortex heads they are prone to leaks on the lower side of the covers so Put your braces or load spreading apparatus on the bottom sides of both since you only have 4 until the other 4 come in or go to any auto parts store they usually stock them hanging in the custom parts area

    To truly find out what the motor is, there should be numbers stamped onto the deck under/behind the alternator. Kinda in front of where the head meets the block. Those numbers may match the last 8 of the Vin (if it’s original) or will at least tell you more about what the motor is.

    That's one positive thing about your big rearview mirrors: The mud dobbers can't build nest in them.

    Looking good. First thing we use to do to these trucks in the 80s was a sliding rear window and a gun rack

    Dude great progress! Loving this truck. Also, I enjoy seeing you be chill and having a bit of fun and not editing out stuff that spontaneously happens like the Carlton. Makes these videos that much better man.

    makes sense, but that is wild about the vibration. When you mentioned harmonic balancer I thought you were going to say it went bad and needed replacement.

      Wildlife can be an issue on any older vehicle, especially one that's lived in the country. I hope you remembered the bug spray, anything that stings tends to get very annoyed when you start messing with its home...

    Happy to see you made it through the storm. Truck is coming along nicely. Can't wait till you use it to get a another vehicle. I'm interested on seeing how she does towing.

    I had a mud dauber issue where they moved into the crank timing sprocket. This caused my timing belt to jump every so many revolutions. It would only start after continously cracking it etc.

    GM started painting all their engines Corporation Blue in 1977 because that's when they started putting engines in different males of cars. Chevy engines in Pontiacs, Oldsmobile engines in Cadillacs, etc. People were getting pissed about buying a car that didn't have the "correct" brand of engine so this was a lame attempt at disguising the engines. Eventually everything started getting painted black. People say it was to hide oil leaks. In reality it was because it was cheaper and black paint dissipates heat better.

    Randy please let us know how you made out with the tornado! I assume you're okay, sure hope so. And do a separate video doing the carlton!!! Amazing how you figured out the vibration easily and virtually cost free. Good luck with new house too.

    Believe it or not,those old valve covers are to me better than the shinny ones.but the new ones look good.Those long wings are notorious for falling off.but great video brother and love the truck..

    The wings on those valve cover bolts are notorious to literally just fall off. You may want to remove them so that you don’t lose them.

    Randy, please remove those clip holders and fill the holes with J B Weld before you send off to body shop. I don't think it will look well until they're off.

    *your casting numbers identify that engine as a 1972 so there's a change it might be a 4 bolt main but it's out of a 5 year older truck. and if you want the internals on your motor to be clean enough to eat off about a week before you change your oil next time get a can of Seafoam and dump about half a can in your oil fill hole and run it like that till you're ready to change the oil again. You'll be able to look in the valve covers and all of that brown be gone if you do it. Not that the brown necessarily hurts it or anything but if you can keep it looking brand new inside with a simple thing like that why not right? not going to hurt anything if you do. BTW you know contrary to popular statements Chrome does not add horsepower. lol*

    I think your engine is original... look for the partial VIN stamped in the engine... it will be behind the alternator on the engine block itself, not the head.
    Reason I think its original... it looks almost identical to my '76 Blazer with a 400. Except my engine block is red. Only thing that threw me off is the plastic loom and clips on the alternator wiring... its missing on my engine, and I always assumed GM wasn't using the corrugated black loom in '76... but I guess mine disappeared at some point.

    Take your metric tools and put them away... there in NOTHING on that truck that's metric... get at least a cheap set of SAE tools. Sure, the metric tools can be used here or there... but every time you use the wrong tool (metric on SAE or SAE on metric) you are doing damage to the head of the fastener... sure, it might not round it the first or even tenth time... but there will be times were you are going to crank it just enough and will end up with a mess... and then you're going to find yourself hunting down new hardware... its just not worth it. I've been there.

    Dude you deleting the PCV system on that Engine will make it build up kind of pressure on the inside of that Engine that it will start pushing Oil out of the Seals Gaskets & anywhere it can find to push it out that is why the PCV system is there to begin with PCV stands for (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) it is there to relieve the pressure that builds up Internally through the Air Intake on any Engine Diesel Engines even have them that is why when you see Oil in the Air Breather Housing the PCV system is where it comes from

    • @billiewright7532
      @billiewright7532 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that I would not do away with the pcv valve

    • @MikhailScottKy
      @MikhailScottKy 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The PCV valve directs exhaust or engine gases through the intake what he is doing is putting an old school breather on that spot. The result will be as the engine heats up gases will Xscape the Breather and as the engine cools down gases will come back in through the Breather just keeping it from blowing out the gaskets and seals.

    • @BigDaddyThrock
      @BigDaddyThrock 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The PCV valve on that particular engine was originally routed to the vacuum on the front of the carb, the vacuum helps pull the excess pressure out of the crankcase. Just to be sure, I’d put one back on it to be safe
