i was in Cardiff the night big jock died, as a Scotland supporter, as a manager, he was and is a hero of mine, i am a rangers man, but what the big man did man did for Celtic, total respect, for my brother mason, a manager who stood up to the bigots at parkheid, sleep well big man, you stood by your masonic obligation, we must strive for the brotherhood of man, " a man's a man .
when Craig says a previous coach/manager threatened to drop Tommy Gemmell the Full Back who would go on to score in 2 European finals if he crossed the half way line that really put's the era into perspective
Celtic management take the support and the history for granted. I met many management scumbags that had a terrible attitude to the loyal support. I quote "You can put Celtics name on any crap and the support will buy it" that was from some dickhead who worked in the backroom staff. They just didn't know how to treat folk, as a Celtic fan it was a shocker.
He was a very good manager but his record is not as good as a few others. And I don't just mean trophies. Jock played 10 times in the EC at a time when Scottish football was very healthy in comparison to today. Winning 1 out of 10 was not very impressive for a huge club like Celtic. And as was mentioned in the video Jock didn't build that 67 team, it was already there when he joined Celtic in 1965. Managers like Shanks, Clough and Busby all achieved more in terms of either trophies or building teams under difficult circumstances. Others may argue that Paisley and Ferguson were also better. For me it's 1. Busby. 2. Ferguson. 3. Clough. 4. Shanks. 5. Stein. 6. Paisley.
@@jamesirvine2579 Correct but it was a different era when it was much, much harder to win the CL than it was the EC back in the day when you often played minnows who were champions of their respective countries like Denmark, Norway, Ireland, Switzerland, Iceland, Belgium, Hungary etc. You could lose 5 games and still win the old EC by aggregate victories. You might even only have 4 teams to beat if you got a bye as Liverpool did one season. Don't forget Fergie won the ECWC twice and the Champions League twice. That's 4 European trophies. With Aberdeen he had 2 shots at the European Cup. With United he must of had around 16 or so. So he won 4 out of roughly 18, which is more than twice as good as Stein. Also bear in mind Fergie won more trophies than any manager in history!!!!!!
