Wyatt has a new toy, giving their best pilot the best fighter just gives him that bit more of an edge, Clara's not going to object to that

Well to be correct Wyatt's getting a refurbished toy, that's been improved upon over it's originally. Though it may be bit less survivability if starts taking damage due to some redundant systems being taken out.
@@Soundwave119 "Better than new" but you missed my point, to quote an earlier line, individual pilots do not have their own ships unless they purchase them themselves and generally those are NOT fighters, Clara told Wyatt to go and see HIS ship ...... The ship was so badly damaged that it was written off it was thus worthless in the eyes of the Navy, now there is a ship that nominally has been written off and is now up and running but does not conform to type, thus requiring a specialist to do any future repairs, so maybe it really is Wyatts ship LOL
@@davidorf3921 Well you do have a point but to me Clara says go to your fighter as to tease him more since it has become a favorite past time of hers ☺. Though at the same time even a wrecked starfighter like the one Wyatt used in fighting those Drazin starfighters would be worth alot in parts that could be used on other fighters. Epically with now supply chain issues becoming more and more an issue with the fighting between the noble houses going on longer and getting more intense.
With the evidence so far the starfighter has unofficially been assigned to Wyatt but he does not legally own it. I don't think Wyatt is rich enough to own his own personal fighter and the up keep all the maintenance costs it would have since fighters are high maintenance machines.
@@davidorf3921 Couple of points.
1. Redford thought the fighter MIGHT be written off, but we never got confirmation it was.
2. Redford did say Wyatt could (in essence) "claim" a fighter and put his heraldic shield on it, but strongly advised Wyatt not to do this. I personally think stenciling "LT. STAPLES" in 2" to 3" (50mm to 75mm) low contrast lettering would be OK.
Q. Why did he name the squadron "Composters"?
A. Because they take out the trash. ;)

I wonder if Wyatt will adopt Galt into his house. Also can't wait for the upgrades to give some unlucky enemy a big surprise.
I would not be surprised to find that Clara (assuming they all survive) will demote or execute some of Galt Tiroms more senior family members for being traitors, which of course means that Galt may find himself in a more senior position in the family tree, he said he was a less important part of the family but I believe the Astors reward Loyalty and service appropriately. Galt is probably more akin to the older brother Wyatt never had, he is willing to give Wyatt excellent advice and I am sure we will find Wyatt thanking Galt, perhaps Captain Milkades can suggest a suitable gift as I dare say a knitting kit is probably not suitable LOL

Hello everyone, EkhidnaWritez here. Okay, so, I know many of you are expecting Chapter 37 Part 2 today. Unfortunately, that won't be the case. You see, I wasn't at all happy with the action scenes present in part 2 and by extension what happens in part 3, so I'm reworking them to make them much better. Sorry for the inconvenience, but don't worry. This will only move the release of part 2 by a single day.
Sad for the delay but happy as there will be a third part as well

I have a feeling that Composter Squadron is going to be flying updater fighters that no one has ever seen. Now if Wyatt ‘s squadron can get their collective acts together they will be a force to be reckoned with.
The fighters look more or less the same but they out perform everyone elses that's a much better edge, with a new fighter you do not know what to expect but with a standard design you think you know its limitations

You never know, as I said in another post, Wyatt might be unknowingly building a Royal Marine fighter Wing. Just imagine House Aster’s RM not relying on regular pilots for there needs but having pilots equipped and trained to operate with the RM only. It would be like a USMC Air Wing, yes these wings would need to deploy with the Principality Navy but there primary purpose is to protect His Majesty.
I wonder if Clara will put two and two together. By asking Jincho, if by hacking into someone's comms could they kill them? Like Fredrick Anderson. I think Jincho will become an integral part of the Noir Navio Team. Great chapter 👍👍
I suspect she will use Wyatt to ask him due to his relationship with Jincho. Also Jincho's disrespect for royalty ( maybe cloaked at the time
@@ArthurBuchanan-vf7kx I think Clara can cope with Jincho, his disrespect seems to be for just about everyone and most importantly it is not actually designed to be hurtful, Cynthia is far more upset than Clara. Clara needs the sort of talented people like Jincho, if that means she has to tolerate a certain amount of "disrespect" in return for their best work she will accept it. Most likely Jincho will come around, I expect at some point in the future a comment along the lines of "You know for a princess you are alright" which is probably about as good as it's going to get from him

I can say without a doubt, this is the only story that I have listened to that I actually get this involved. I actually enjoy the comments too.
I have listened to several other books, but this is the only one I take the time to read the comments and leave a comment. A couple of the other books were over 1300 chapters, and I enjoyed them but never left a single comment.
I can only hope that it doesn't stop. I'm enjoying it too much.

Juliana was nice. She should have busted Salazar to 2nd loot and then made him do a map & compass land nav course. They might find him in 2 years, because he'd never find his own way to the extraction point.
I also think Wyatt may yet again command the Noirnavio. Not soon - I like Redford - but the time may yet come again where his special talents are needed.

Wyatt most likely will eventually commanding the Noirnavio after completing officer training and more experience.
I think there’s a potential redemption arc for Salazar since he is on the Noirnavio and Wyatt isn’t holding a grudge.
I agree, if Salazar offers a formal apology to Wyatt then maybe behaves himself and distinguishes himself in combat he might gain back some of that lost honour, assuming he does not get killed in the process, of course if he does then he dies with honour
I honestly thought after the duel when Wyatt walked up to him he was going to offer him a helping hand and from then on they would slowly work it out.
But I like that he didn’t do the expected tbh cause Salazar was a dbag.
Wyatt has to find the manual entitled, _"How to be a Noble for Dummies!"_
To be fair I think he will get help from Galt, Cynthia and of course Clara but a guide would certainly have been useful

Honestly wish I could travel into the future just to listen to the next like 100 chapters. I listen to a lot of story's during work but this is the only one where I actually just fully stop working to focus and listen to it, love it so much.
When you do make take me I'm so oooon
Now picture forty construction workers huddled around listening to this story on their lunch breaks that is only a half an hour, if a chapter a few minutes over no problem being I am their site supervisor. But the best is that my boss has become hooked on this story. He arrived one day on site and said; “it started? We’ll run it back, their lunch is run by this chapter of Black Ship.” Needless to say at the end of the day to the man they stayed to make up that time. I still find it amazing that these guys are still waiting to listen to the Black Ship during their lunch. That is saying something to the skill of the author. Well done, just well done.

@@thomasohanlon1060 for some reason all my mind wants to picture is a scene from the early 1900's. Of a bunch of bury strong guys, covered in like grease etc all sitting on I beams floating in the sky hurtled around a small radio, eating there sandwiches from there lunch box and listining to the story while smoking a cig haha.
@@Paragon643 your not to far off, instead of an I-Beam we are in the shanty “ie my office” not really it’s where my Blueprints and the gang box is stored listening to it on at first my phone, then I got a cheep blue tooth speaker and that’s our half hour or so lunch. If the episode is a little longer than we wait till the end. Unless my boss is showing up, only have about a half a year till I retire.
I am glad I have today off so I can watch this less than an hour. Considering I normally would be working at the grocery store right now. 😊
I do like how this chapter starts with Wyatt once again appreciation of the Noirnavio as their shuttle returns it. I am not surprised that now Wyatt has time to think of it, becoming envious of captains and higher ranks getting to command a ship like the Noirnavio. Nice touch EkhidnaWritez for Clara trying to surprise Wyatt with him in deep thoughts 😂. Sadly for Clara, Wyatt was not surprised by Clara's antics. Hilarious that Wyatt doesn't know the saying "stick in the mud" means and takes it literally 😂.
I am not surprised that Clara and Cynthia asked Wyatt, in fighting the Drazin, if he did not pass out from his injuries, would have done. It is interesting to hear that Clara's negotiations at Woodshaft that the forces were 2nd priority and having Woodshaft allied with the Prince was the main priority.
It was no surprise that Wyatt doesn't care about Salazar Reid since he acted exactly how he expected a stuck up blue blood. I do agree with Clara that Salazar was very smart in the way he tried to get revenge on Wyatt. I do like how the worst punishment he got was from his own family, that Vice Admiral Vashikati Reid by striping his nephew most of his nobility and making him just a knight. Nice touch of Juliana Windfield punishing Salazar by giving him 20 lashes with a whip, demoting him from captain to a Sergent and transferred to the Noirnavio.
Interesting twist in having Salazar having to serve on a ship the is has lots of people respect Wyatt and he has to do nothing to offend Wyatt otherwise he could end up banished from his own house. I have a feeling that one of Wyatt's squadron mates going to have field day hearing what happened to in the dual between Wyatt and Salazar and all the punishments Salazar has gotten from it. I do wonder if there is a recording of the duel that his squadron mates can what seeing Salazar Reid humiliated by getting owned by Wyatt. I do wonder if Salazar is going to get a redemption arc with him seeing the error of his ways, improving himself and ends up becoming 1 of Wyatt's allies.
I do like how Wyatt thinks about how he needs to properly thank Galt for him helping him overcome his panic attack and realize the source of it so he can prevent them coming again. I do like once again we wonder if Clara has some cybernetic or genetic enhancement allowing her to read peoples minds or if Clara is so good at reading people, especially someone she knows so well like Wyatt.
I do like how Jincho so effortlessly hacks the private communications channel that Clara, Wyatt, Cynthia and the Royal Marines were using and surprises them with it! 🤣 I am not surprised that Milkades respects Jincho for his grandmaster hacking abilities that are so good that he didn't detect the hack and was unaware until it was done. Why am I not surprised that Clara is becoming fond of the hilarious antics and genius of Jincho? I totally agree with Wyatt's intoituon that Cynthia is exasperated with her friend and Milkades trying not to laugh at the interaction of his 2 friends. 😊
We finally get to see how Jincho has improved the fighter he wrecked compared to normal fighters. It's hilarious Jincho didn't tell anyone what he was all doing to bypass many annoying regulations. It's not surprising that Jincho respects Wyatt's fighting ideology that focuses on surviving over honer. Hilarious way to end the chapter with Wyatt showing his thanks and respect for Jincho with theatrical way and calling him Master Techintion.😂 Not surprising that this would make Jincho's day!
It will be interesting to see Wyatt exploring different parts of the Noirnavio he hasn't been to. It will be interesting to see why Clara and Cynthia have such an infamous reputations and how possibly it's connected with Veronica Draymore. I would find it interesting seeing a scene where Galt meets Wyatt's fighter subordinates and them taking about Wyatt.

The banter among Wyatt, Clara and Cynthia’s is often entertaining, and often educational or informative (like what happened with Salazar). But the exchange with Jincho was most FUN. Gives me hope to hear again about Wyatt piloting the fighter in battle!

I have been into sci-fi since I was very young. The first book I can remember wanting was "Have Space Suit, Will Travel" back in about 1969 or 1970. My personal sci-fi library was over 3500 volumes, before a 100 year storm flooded an area that had never had a recorded flood, and many were destroyed.
I can say that I have read a LOT of science fiction.....most very good.....some OK, and some TERRIBLE(SEE: L. Ron Hubbard)....and some is just mind blowing.
I would call this series very good.
And much anticipated.

Whilst not quite as old I've been reading Sci Fi since the mid to late 1970's by the time I was 7 I was reading proper Sci Fi novels and along with fantasy novels have never stopped, my only problem is that I'm a pretty fast reader, I can get through a 300 page novel in a single session, though I don't restrict myself to just sci fi and fantasy novels I've got 4 half height and 2 full height book cases stuffed to overflowing along with multiple boxes full of books around the house, I have no idea how many I've read in total, thousands certainly.
Whilst there are faults with the Black Ship I believe that they are minor and mostly down to not having a proof reader/editor who can catch them before they are published. I'm going to rate the Black Ship as being in my top 10% which for me is high praise. The plot appears so far to be well thought out, the characters are fun and the descriptions excellent. We want Wyatt to triumph over adversity be it in combat or in love, we love it when Salazar gets defeated and humiliated in his duel. We want to know why Duke Draymor turned against his own family or what Clara did to get her called the reaper and we appreciate the less important characters because they actually help enhance the story.
That the author reads our comments and takes inspiration from them in my opinion just adds to the enjoyment for all, there is from personal experience a lot of enjoyment when you see a suggestion you have made added to a great story and just as importantly seeing others respond positively to that suggestion within the story

@scifistories1977 Good and bad days, mostly good, very rare I have a bad day but on those days I just need to keep my chin up and push through the day! Basically makes you feel like you just want to curl up in a ball and cry and you don't even know why, all you can do is replay the trigger that set you off desperately trying to figure out why it makes you feel that way but you never can. PTSD sucks and it pisses me off that we have people out there that use triggers as a tool to get out of uncomfortable situations when it just dismisses how crappy it actually is. But I'm good now! Feeling is going to be stuck lingering for the next week or two but it's more or a background thought now, still sucks but it's manageable atleast.
So many parts in this episode/chapter makes me think that this story is Wyatt telling it to his grandchildren or it is him reliving his life just before his execution or death. Sorry I’m just getting this type of vibe from the story at this point. Honestly I really hope that I am one hundred percent wrong about this.
Be I right or wrong I am still down for the ride the author has in mind for us, now I only hope that I will be around long enough for the story too reach it’s natural conclusion being I’m still doing physical labor in my sixties.
Now to the author this is an absolute treat of a story, honestly I hope that none of my rants have cut short any plot lines that were/are developing (if so just ask me to stop with my ramblings) for you and the audience I will.
Great story, the world building is amazing. The character development is sublime, everything is so rich and tangible it is kind of eerie as to how real everything feels in this world/story.

Now they need to have all of Wyatt’s wing put into comparable ships, then they need to paint them all black. Would be the best way to denote Wyatt’s wing.
This is good as any big audiobooks and I listen to a lot of audiobooks while I work especially W40K books, I love science fiction stuff, keep up the good work. 👍👍

I'm thinking back at the time when he initiated the ship and named it. Is it his? I mean, he is a noble Knight, and Clara likes to make plans in advance. She is a genius, like Wyatt says.
In the Principality there is undoubtedly some associated status with his naming the vessel, previously it was named the Samuels Glory after it's captain, a vain man, so I am betting that Redford will be around for a good while longer but eventually Wyatt will be promoted for various reasons and rise to a position where he has the authority to command the Noirnavio. At the moment though he does not have the experience to lead an entire crew, that is what Redford is there to teach him, like all good naval officers Redford is teaching his junior officers what they need to know to eventually replace him
How about whether Wyatt ends up with Clara or Cynthia or some other scenario

In one of the earlier episodes, Jincho mentioned the poor weapons used on the ship. I won't be surprised if Jincho is allowed to upgrade the ship weapons.

I think I figured out how Wyatt will cross paths with Serhan Gilmor, at some point they are going to Valantis and there will of course be some form of parade. It is at this point Wyatt is going to have to make a choice forget his promise to the dead or forget his promise to the Prince and the principality.
Of all the stories out there this is the only one I'm subscribed to. Frankly I would love to see a new episode everyday and I
know it won't happen.

Not quite destroyed but very close, I think he was assigned to the Black Ship to give him the chance to redeem himself, he could have been stripped of everything, in his case I think he has been sent to the ship doing the most dangerous assignments in the fleet, he's been told keep being an arse and it's likely one of your own men/women will shoot you in the back, take this opportunity to redeem yourself and maybe you can earn back those lost titles and rank, how he behaves when he next meets Wyatt will be interesting. If he is still angry and belligerent then he hasn't learnt anything, but if he were to apologize for his actions then I think Wyatt will accept that at face value and his path to redemption can start
@@davidorf3921 well he is essentially commanding what is in all likelihood a red-shirt (bc TH-cam doesnt like the other term) squad with slim chance of survival. Almost akin to a penal regiment in the USSR during ww2. So his chances of survival are next to nothing. I would quibble semantically that this is essentially a life/career destroyed. I feel like we are essentially saying the same thing but just differ in how we define destroyed.

I don't think Clara has an implant allowing mind reading, but if she does there would be no wonder why everyone hates her. I think it is a natural talent which still makes very feared and respected. Maybe it will be revealed tomorrow when part 2 drops (I hope). Maybe even 3 parts where one is for self-censoring as in Wyatt's Drazzen encounter

I think at the moment there is just a little, but it's more like a little fun on the ladies part rather than being serious... FOR NOW. A little friendly competition, between them, to see which of them can embarrass their friend more effectively. Actually for Wyatt this is a good thing, it will get him used to female attention from beautiful women and in his role, it's important that he is able to ignore that

@@ArthurBuchanan-vf7kx Actually I realise it's slightly more complicated, Wyatt still thinks of himself as a commoner he has had one hell of a time accepting that the Princess and her best friend would actually want him as their friend. In his mind there is no way either of them would be romantically interested in him thus the awkwardness and embarrassment when he's stuck in the med pod in just his shorts
@@davidorf3921 Very much so which I believe Clara and Cynthia will have a conversation about who makes a play for him knowing he will faint and instantly realize he is in love with the only exception I see is for someone ask (wyatt's mother or brother) which is his girl friend

Redford had planned to try and train Wyatt to be a Lt Cmdr, when he found out what Wyatt had done he realised there was really no limit to the ,ans capabilities, it's just a case of training him to be that more senior commander with it's responsibilities
@@davidorf3921 I believe Redford has already started his advanced training, further I think the main reason Redford is on the Noirnavio is to train Wyatt, I suspect Redford to be transferred to the prince's fleet as soon as Wyatt comes up to speed by training his group up to becoming leaders themselves
@@ArthurBuchanan-vf7kx I think it will be a little longer, I think Wyatt needs at least two rank bumps maybe three in the Authors system, getting one bump to Lt Cmdr might give him the authority required to act as the ships commander when required but author has I believe moved the rank of commodore to a spot below captain (perhaps misinterpreting commander for commodore) , So I think the current ranking goes, Lt, Lt cmdr, commander, commodore, captain, admiral but I could be wrong. Also Wyatt does not I believe have all the implants he needs to fully interface with the ship, other than his eyes his last set of implants were really Physical improvements. So at least one more trip to the hospital for Wyatt is on the cards

@@ArthurBuchanan-vf7kx Not wanting and accepting that he needs them to do the job are slightly different things. He can command the ship without them if others help, I suspect that Redford will place him in such a position
