The question I get asked most is which is the better country to live out of Philippines and Thailand it's such a hard question as everyone has different wants and likes but I break down into different categories of my experience over the last few years of living in both countries to try and give you my best review.!

I grew up in Philippines and all my friends who move to Thailand said good things about the country, they find it better than Philippines in many ways. I am now in UK and I adopt to the culture easier than I thought, so maybe Filipino culture is similar to the west.

You skipped two important topics: VISAs and women. VISA management in Thailand is like hell, while in the Philippines it's vastly more permissive. Women: they are a main reason to move over those countries. Finding a traditional woman to marry is simpler in the Philippines and their culture is closer (not close, but closer) to ours than Thais.

I've been in The Philippines for a year so far and, apart from some out of the way and difficult to get to beauty spots, the only thing it has remotely in it's favour is the English ability of the people. Literally everything else is way, way better in Thailand (including the people) and getting back there can't come soon enough for me!

As a Bangkok local, I’ll suggest if you plan to stay in Thailand long term you’d better learn some basic Thai, just like living in Japan or Spain where English language is an alternative.
If the language barrier matters to you, no patience to communicate and no interest to learn a new stuff, then just go for the PH, or Thai town in Los Angeles instead.

I went in thailand 6 months already and in philippines also. For me Thailand is better if you compare prices of accomodation, but food in my case in Siquijor island was better in Philippines than in Pattaya in Thailand. Everything depends about prices. Now i am in pattaya and honestly, if you want choose farang food like international (indian, pizza) its much more expensive in Thailand. You can find many good restaurant with foreigner food and it will be cheaper than in Thailand. Of course, standard and almost everything is more developed in Thailand but its hell with visa and language. In pattaya everyone should talk english Its famous destination in Thailand but not. MUch more hassle is open a business in Thailand. For me in future Philippines can be better than thailand.

I agree with you. Thai laws doing their best to give hard time for long time stayers like retirement visa. You have to extended every year, every 90 days go and show yourself to immigration, every time when you leave thailand get reentry permit( what a bull shit.I have already visa so why should get re entry permit each time ?) You have keep hude depisit in the bank and every month certain amount of money must come in to that bank account.
Bla,bla, bla, bla. Forget about getting permanent visa, forget about doing small self employed business, forget about even buying home ( 51 % must be in thai name)
Even if you marry to woman you have get yearly visa ! ! , re entry permit, huge deposit must be kept in the bank.
Simply, what i am saying to thailand is. F. Off. What do you think you are? You have only the easiest women. That is all.

@spenceabroad7960 Yes. On a UK passport you get 30 days on arrival and then can extend for another 29 days. After that you just go to a local immigration office and extend again every few months up to 3yrs. Obviously with fees.
You can then book a cheap return flight to say Singapore, Bangkok, Malaysia etc and start the process again.

What I noticed about Filipino food is a lot of the dishes require condiments to make them taste good. Like the vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, and chili mixture that Filipinos make themselves when dining. The problem is, nobody tells foreign tourists how to make it. A lot of times, they just end up eating the dish plain, without rice. Filipino food is too salty to be eaten without rice. And it's usually bland without the condiments. So somebody should explicitly explain to foreign tourists how to eat the food

For the ease of Language and Friendly warm people and Quality of Beaches and Landscapes Philippines wins. For the Infrastructure Thailand and if you also prefer more of a culture shock.. As Philippines is more Americanised than Thailand. Each Country is great in its own way.

      - assuming you are flying into Manila , get out of there as quick as possible and get the “ Point to Point “ bus directly to SM Clark ( leaves terminal 3 every 2 hours. That will take you to Angeles city which has a fun walking street . Stay there two nights and then get to San Juan, La Union and try to co ordinate it so you arrive Friday to Sunday . I lived for 5 years in Bangkok and 5 years ( less 2 back in Australia during the pandemic), in the Philippines and ABSOLUTELY agree with every opinion you have stated. I am now living in San Juan ( La Union ) Philippines and the only reason I am here is because of my gf ( who is Filipino) and the surf, otherwise it would be Thailand for me. Bangkok is my favourite city whilst Manila is " Satan's Arsehole" ! It's quite simple for me- if you want to live in the city then Bangkok is 1 million times superior to any city in the Philippines for all the reasons you stated. However, if you want a " Province life" that offers want you want ( for me its surf) then you can live in either Thailand or the Philippines. But if I was to live in the Province of either Thailand or the Philippines without the ocean, then ' shoot me', I would die of boredom!!! But your opinions are 100% on the money in my opinion. However, you failed to mention the difference between Thai women and Filipino women- any reason???

    Talk about weather and climate
Philippines- 20 tropical storms pass through a year, 10 develop into typhoons, 5 make landfall, on average. Philippines is more earthquake prone. Philippines has higher mountains, so you can find some cities that don't really get hot- like Baguio, Salvador Benedicto, Malaybalay, etc. No burning season is a plus.
Thailand- calmer weather overall, not many natural disasters to worry about. The entire country is hot. Even if you go to Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai, it's going to be hot most of the year. And when it's not hot, it's burning season and the air quality is some of the worse in the world.

I was there just last week and the weed is so expensive, I had to buy it from a guy in a dark alley way lol. There is also more corruption in Thailand and will more likely be scammed. But honestly it's hard to choose between them. When I was younger I'd choose Thailand, but now I'm 41, I choose Philippines.
