@NativeFarang Yes if you want to live like a pauper in bkk, you can... lolol. But that's not a quality lifestyle. You might be poor and fine with that, but remember the average Thai worker is making around 25k to 30k usd. But they eat out ALL the time, so there goes a quarter of their salary...
@@taccntb4345 I recommend that you check your facts, an average Thai worker makes no where near 30k USD.. that's a higher wage than the average in the UK which is classed as one of the most wealthiest 😂 Eating out isn't that expensive, a meal can cost $1-1.50 on the streets. Sometimes it costs more to cook, but it's also part of culture to eat out. Also Bangkok is a capital city, of course it's going to be more expensive than most of Thailand, anyone would be a fool to think otherwise. Try living in London or Paris for cheap..
I was working in Chonburi for 14 years. I was still hitting the malls, restaurants and “fashion conscious”. Now that I am retired in the countryside of Isaan, no temptation to be “fashion conscious”, having the latest gadgets or visiting the nearest mall (40 minutes away). It’s nice to be away from the materialistic rat race and enjoy nature and work on my tropical garden. ( plus I am now antisocial 555) I agree with you two, you’re not poor but have proven that you don’t need to live a consumer life gathering unnecessary items advertised on billboards, the internet and TV. ( Surprised your grocery bill once a month is only 2000-3000 with kids. That’s amazing) You’re showing the young generation how to live reasonably. Good realistic video about “normal Thais”. Many valid points were made. -btw No family members or Thai neighbors to watch the kids for a few hours each day?
Thank you so much, great comment! 🙏 We just wanted to show that you can live on less than 20k a month if you're happy to live a certain way, which we definitely are, even as a young family 😊 And no, unfortunately there isn't anybody who can watch the children for us, but it won't be long until they're both in school 😊
Loved your reply..I become a minimalist, well at least compared to how I lived before in the California. And I actually have more peace and feel much lighter breaking the chains of being addicted to status and consumerism. I do treat myself once in a while but for example if I buy new artical of clothing, I give away a artical of clothing (I remember giving away to goodwill bags of clothes I rarely ever wore By the way, I'm 58 going on 59. Thanks again ❤
Cheers Ricky, we believe you'll survive out here. There are lots of opportunities to make money.. just gotta stay strong and get through it mate you'll find your feet.
For some people, like myself, you guys are rich. Maybe not money wise, but being able to enjoy life, as simple as it can be, without being dictated on what you should do.. That's where the real value comes from. Keep that mindset, sit back and enjoy that beautiful ride!
As a single I need around 750 euros/30,000 baht a month, my car is 25 years old and I live rent-free. I am retired and my German pension goes into my Thai account without any deductions. some chickens and cats enrich my life. I also get some money a month from my ex so that I can take care of his property and animals since he doesn't live in Thailand. My life is good, even with private health insurance.
Guys you are doing it the right way in Thailand living like the locals and keeping it real in your vlogs ,a lot of other TH-camrs are just trying to flex whilst talking utter nonsense . Keep up the great work guys
Just found your channel today in my recommendations. Awesome video 👍🏻 I live in Thailand half the year and watching this I have realised I waste far too much money when I’m staying there. Definitely going to try and cut back when I’m back over.
Ahh thank you so much for watching, glad you enjoyed! Ahh it's still definitely a very affordable country, if you cut back on a few things 😊 But money is there to be spent I guess 😅
Hi guys You’re both doing well with your new life and surroundings, think of all the crap you had in your old life back home , stuff you didn’t need but others had it so you needed it also , and it is only stuff , you’re living a life now that allows you to be with your kids every day and enjoy them , you can’t buy that , you’re doing well and when it’s all as you want it then it will be a little easier , all the best and regards Davy 🏴🇹🇭
Ahhh that's a lovely comment, thank you so much! We sometimes sit here and compare our life now to how it was in England and we can honestly say we're so much happier and healthier here, and getting to spend 24/7 as a family is like you say, priceless! Thank you 🙏
Live small and dream big is the way to go. Love Thailand. We live in Rayong and our electricity bill is 800THB per month. The wife and daughters food spend per month 4,000 per month. Daughter 6, goes to a dual language school is around 50k per year. My wife loves the local food markets. My budget is different although I don't drink or smoke. People here on a retirement need to bring in 66,000 per month to maintain our visa status. Plus I need private health insurance. Owning your own property and car is a massive saving. I'm a massive minimalist don't own a pair of shoes, trainers, socks, trousers, jacket, tie or suit. Stay strong first year is not easy. Great content
You are both quite right. You could even live outside of Pattaya for 20K easily. One bed condo and eating healthy Thai food. If you want to eat in western type restaurants and drink in soi 6 every night then you will be back in the UK pretty quickly.
Absolute bang on guys. This is exactly what people want to hear. Being non materialistic is living a real life, here & now. Love it. I totally agree with you regards many other TH-camrs with their overly inflated cost of living.
Thank you so much, we're happy with how we live, happier than ever 😊 So true, some of these "budgets" I wouldn't even spend back in the UK let alone in an affordable country like Thailand 😂
We live up in Issan in a village. Have our own house which is paid for. Easily can live for 4-5K per week. However if we go on a road trip, holidays, buy stuff outside the households, then we spend more. Pickup is 15 years old with very low kms as I spent alot of time abroad in the UK and its really cheap to insure and tax. So can live very cheap. UK full pension is £800 pm which is double what we spend... So rather than freezing in the UK with high bills, council tax, etc, sell everything and come and retire in Thailand!
You have it sussed and are very much living the life, good for you! You can see living in Thailand for how it really is 😊🙏 Our last gas/electricity bill in England was around £3k so we definitely do not miss that! 🤣
Great honest video. It’s your first year and this is the depths of rainy season! You’ve got each other, two lovely kids and a bright different future. Happy times ahead. Good luck …
Great video. I love Thailand and have travelled there extensively over the last 7 years. I have a very decent retirement income and want to retire (for around 6 a 8 months pa) to the North, Chiang Mai/Chiang Rai, whilst retaining my U.K. home and roots, and your lifestyle shows this is perfectly realistic. Just need to improve my language skills. 😎
You are dong so well. I have been living with my Thai in laws 8 people in a small Thai house in a rural villiage 30 kms from Kalasin for the last 5 years. Before this I ran a business in Bangkok for 13 years ...even so the transition to rural Thai life was hard. Big respect to you for following your dreams particularly with two young kids, good luck to you both.
Somehow I admire you both, the farm as a source of income, that takes real courage. I came to Thailand for the rest of my life, but I live in Phra Khanong, Bangkok. Life on the farm... I think not for me.
Medicine.. I take 1 ea 2 x a day = in US 120 for 60 days$1069.50 USD for two months. Same bought here 120 for 60 days @ $424.00 USD (14,000 Thai baht). for two months. This is one heart medicine…
Medicine can be very expensive indeed, in lots of countries around the world. Those who require medicine would need to factor that into their budget accordingly 🙏
What do you grow on the farm. I am happy for you both. I used to live in Belgium as a british and when i go back sometimes, i am cold and life is so different there. Always happy to be back. Thailand is my home.
A bit of everything really, we have banana trees, mango, rambutan, avocado etc and different vegetables and herbs. Just planting things as we go along and seeing what does well 😊
Young Natt! Spot on! So glad you guys stood up for yourselves, not that you needed to. Sometime in life we have to set things straight and dislodge old stereotypes and fallacies. The world is getting smaller and folks are much more educated and wiser than ever. You proved that with your eastern and western upbringing and experiences. Hence you youngsters saw the light at the tunnel and decided to seek a better life in Thailand. Sometimes ppl just need to learn to adapt and stop comparing apples to oranges lol. Best of luck!
Thank you 🙏 Yes exactly, that's all so true! I'm all for people sharing their opinion but don't belittle us and spread misinformation, I got a bit carried away 😅 Times have changed, the sooner they realise that the better! 🤣
Me and the wife are planning for 30K a month, but will probably be less than that. We just feel its better to plan for more than what you need. But then again we have some time left before we can move, as we are waiting for my wife and stepson to get citizenship in Norway first. Just so he can choose where he wants to live.
@@NativeFarang can’t wait to move out there one day! From the US! Sadly I can’t claim my grand parents heritage from Isan! I was born in Laos! But we used to be the same country before the French took over ! 😭😭😭
Minimum wage in Thailand is about 10k Baut. We live very cheap. Street food meals about 60 to 100 baut per meal. Home is paid for, so no rent. We paid about a million baut for our home in Isaan on half Rai. We have a pond for fish and a lot of chickens and ducks. Expensive part is that 800k you got to keep in the bank for visa and medical insurance. You are doing very good living the dream life. Good Luck
You're in a similar situation, sounds like you have it sussed 😁 It's all down to the individual and the lifestyle you want to live, but yes we agree, certain expenses can't be helped. Thanks so much for watching and commenting 🙏
Great video! You guys are a great team and have beautiful children. I like that you want your kids to have experience by going to the beach and little treats that don't cost much money. Agreed on the AC for the children. :-) This is a great example for saving money for future.
Hey... I'll be back in Thailand at the end of November for just over a month (from a small village near Preston but lived in Aus tor 20+ years)... In my home town UK people live on tight budgets, rarely eat out, etc. - I worked 60hr weeks mon-sat for 160 quid back in '99 but tripled my income when I moved to Sydney, although scary and I was literally broke by the time I earned my 1st wage... Now 24 years on, I bought a small 2 bed unit here, and a 1 bed condo in Jomtien... have some savings but not enough.... I agree Thailand can be cheap to live, especially outside of tourism areas, although as per a couple of other comments there are caveats.... health is a big one... insurance, especially with underlying medical conditions which happen to the best of us, alongside medicine costs... I only get to spend up to around 3-5 weeks in my place there at a time, 3-4 times a year but while there I'm usually on a budget / careful to spend but I do cook at home a bit... not having transport I rely a bit too much on 7elevens or the markets within walking distance which have premium prices - I did have ebike plans but tore my rotator cuff setting up the brakes (now needs surgery which I can't afford!)... pad krapao, khao pad, khao man gai, etc just outside my condo is 80+ baht so maybe double more local places but it's convenient if I didn't find time to cook... lazada is dangerous for spending but again much easier than finding stuff locally.. I'd love to be there more but tbh I would need more cash just to cover my health costs.... happy with Thai. or Isaan food most days - Pet mak mak! Would be nice to meet while over there from late Nov to end of Dec you visit the Pattaya/Jomtien area - not sure I could drive to your place lol...
Hello 👋 Ooh Preston wasn't too far from us! Oh we completely agree and totally understand that everyone has their own set of circumstances. Health insurance and medicine costs definitely seems to be a huge bill for many people, perhaps that will come to us in time, but hopefully not in the near future 🤞 our insurance is cheap enough for now 🙏 As long as you're happy and comfortable and not living beyond your means then you should spend your money how you see fit 😊 This is just how much it costs us and that if you want to live cheaply in Thailand then it can definitely be done 😊 Let us know when you're around and we'll see if we can arrange to meet up somewhere, sounds good 😁🙏
Great to see you guys doing really well there. Very good decision to move here to have a great time for you family and have more time to be with your kids. 👍🏻🙂
New here, loved your down to earth personality . I will be checking out your other videos. ❤❤❤ I become a kinda hybrid minimilist lol 😂a few years ago and have much more peace and feel much lighter . Thanks for the video❤
Damn that's so true. I'm very, very lucky... I work remotely for a uk company, and I get about 150k bhat if I converted my monthly wage. Which I know is extremely a lot compared to others. I'm based in bkk, so bills are sightly more, but I try and pay as little as I can for things for my own budget. My condo, which has a modern pool, gym, etc, is 9000 bhat. Could I get a bigger one? Definitely, but I don't need a bigger one.
Hi You have just given me a lot of food for thought after listening to this video. Today I have just given my 3 months notice at work. Next stop is Thailand in the new year. 🙏🙏🙏
I love this video! Super down to earth and very attainable for Westerners. You're fortunate to have what you have BUT your greatest asset is your family and lifestyle. It seems like you have the freedom and balance for a healthy lifestyle! Keep it up!
Hi guys just subscribed look forward to seeing more of you both ,I’m currently living between chonburi and chakkarat and uk ,2 months Thailand then 4 months uk every six months
Good video! Live on local produce, cook at home as much as possible, and keeping a vege garden will bring your cost down, and most of all, it is a healthy lifestyle. The occasional visit to a nice restaurant is a nice treat. Our biggest expense is utility cost during the hotter months and prescription medications, the rest of the costs are very much manageable.
Exactly! That's how we're trying to do it and we're more than happy with that 😊 Obviously there are lots of variables to each individual but on the whole Thailand is a very affordable place to live 🙏
@@NativeFarang Medicine costs, medical expenses Let you go see a doctor at the district hospital or sub-district hospital. The cost will be very low. And for Thai nationals, it's free. Pay only 30 baht. All necessary vaccines for children according to age are free. And finding a doctor at a clinic in the case of ordinary illness You can walk in when the doctor's clinic is open. The cost of medicines and doctor's visits is higher than in public hospitals, but compared to the UK, it's just under £30 per for doctor visit and medicine. As for medicines that are necessary for use within the home, such as paracetamol, diarrhea medicine, dysentery, constipation, cough medicine, medicine for children, you can buy them at the pharmacy. Because there will be a pharmacist controlling every store.
spot on Nat, i told you what budget i was living of for the past 15 years with 2 persons like you say we live here so we live like Thais. keep up the good content.
Hi I live in Jomtien and me and my partner live off 24,000b per month. Out of that we pay rent, electricity, water, gasoline (for 2 motorcycles), laundry and all our toiletries and food. We cook at home most of the time but enjoy a meal out 1 or 2 times a month. Neither of us drink or smoke. It's still a great life and far better than the UK.
Nice video. Thanks. I live in Chiang Mai but definitely still living a farang lifestyle. But I just had a broken Samsung phone screen replaced for 152 B. Treat youself!
Can you get the provincial authority to have the driveway paved so that you don’t have through the muddy path each time it rains. The village chief should be informed and it’s his duty to improve the condition of the village. Happen to my Thai friend’s village in Laem Thong many years ago. The path leading to the village was muddy when rain & dusty when dry. It’s all pave up now. I am from Singapore.
I guess it's something we could look into, perhaps in the future. For now it doesn't bother us too much, there's only 4 or 5 houses on our road and we're the last house so it isn't too busy 😊
I did say I'd got a rooster for you, but since you've up'd your hen stock, well I've got 4 more younger roosters that you can take as well, for the same price, yes all 5 are free, the only down side is you have to collect them, and we're about 2 hours away. My only stipulation is that you can't turn them into KFC for 2 years at a minimum, but fertilised eggs on Lazada cost about 240 baht a dozen, way more than you're making on omlettes.
😱 That's so kind! Now the new chicken hut is almost completed. I'll take you up on that offer Les! We can separate them in a different room and get some chics! If you message me your address on either Facebook or Instagram or even email, I'll come and collect them 😁
What you have to bear in mind is that Thai workers spend 10-12 hours a day 6 days a week at work when they get home they are knackered and want to eat and sleep until going back to work the following day . They also probably are going back to a family . Most Western men who retire in Thailand A/ choose a tourist destination to retire too B/ arrive single C/ have more time to fill . To expect Westerners to live like Thai's is nice on paper but unrealistic IMHO.
That's very true, for a lot of people. We just wanted to show how we live and what we spend, and that it can be done very cheaply if you're happy to live a certain way 😊 Thank you for the comment, appreciate it 🙏
800,000 baht 'or' 65,000 baht/Monthly income. But like we said in the video, of course you have to sort out visas first and foremost to even get into the country you'd be pretty stupid if you didn't already have that calculated before hand. Also visa isn't living cost.. 🤷🏼♂️ this video is about how much it costs to live in Thailand day to day.. all other costs such as insurances and visa's varies on people's circumstances. We can't advise a pensioner or retiree on how much their medical costs and visa costs are as it's different for us but we can tell you how much we pay for gas/electric/food ect... Cost of living as the title suggests.
For what it's worth, during Covid when travel was restricted, alcohol sales banned and many places closed, my wife and I were living very comfortably on around 22,000 baht/month. But as you said, that can easily be doubled if you are on a constant holiday by eating out often, drinking at "farang" bars and travelling a lot.
Exactly that, well said! Everyone has their own set of circumstances which can vary massively, but on the whole Thailand is still a very affordable country to live in 😊
here in New Zealand i run a fridge, a chest freezer, a laptop and 1 light and per month(no heater, no aircon) my electricity is $200nzd plus per month($4500THB roughly) if i was running aircon my bill would be equivalent of 10,000thb a month. its crazy
Good honest blog - loved it. You might not believe this, but where I live (Buriram) most of the farang are living on pennies. Forget what some Farang tell you, most are on overstay or are on fake visas, but they still talk in telephone numbers 🤔 I am still amazed how reasonable the cost of living is here, which is great and I still don't understand how the locals can afford their luxuries (big pick-up trucks / iPhones etc.), hey ho, that's Thailand for you 😃
@@NativeFarang Each breeding buffalo costs approximately 5 million baht (140,000 dollars) or more. th-cam.com/video/Z8Hs_xrI5LM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=KJs3o8HCB8xwGNl6
Great video. We have just built our house on 2000 sq mtrs of land in isaan, coming over at the end of the month for the house ceremony. From watching many other videos on budgets we have been waiting until we can afford 50 to 60000 a month, after watching your video i'm thinking we could come sooner. Just wish i was rich like u guys 555
Enjoyed the video guys. I'm married to a thai lady and we're living in Ireland but the plan is to retire in Thailand in the future. I laugh at some of the videos aswell because i know how cheaply my in-laws live. Some of the videos are in tourist places and they eat western food only, drink all day and include 3/4 bar fines aweek in their budget😂😂👍🇮🇪
we are moving to udon on the 29th of may, permanently, can't wait to get out of the matrix!our budget is 20k baht max per month, we think we can do it, like you guys we are not material, you can make life as expensive as you like, your doing great guys!
That sounds great, all the best with your move! 🙏 I'm sure you be absolutely fine on that budget, like you say you can live as expensive as you like, but it's a very affordable country 😊 Thank you 🙏
Hey there native farang, great Video and I'm so glad to find this video from you 2 putting your realistic, truthful and transparent perspective of your family life and ACTUAL living costs in thailand. This is one excellent video I have really enjoyed viewing, after what has been showing up in my feed recently! There seems to be a spurt of Jonny foreigners all doing "Cost Of Life In Thailand Aint Cheap" vlogs of recent, and it really has started to get my goat!.. I've not watched any because me and my autistic mind are likely to end up going into RANTPAGE!....I wonder has anyone told these folk how much life is now costing back home.??.. Quick headsup "COST OF LIFE IN UK - IT AIN'T CHEAP" 🤣🤣🤣 Anyway. after such a pleasing video I thought I'd leave a positive comment to confirm the costs you both mention when living REAL THAI LIFE are TRUE me and my ex-wife lived at ground level in a small section of an old style Thai House up on stilts and grandma lived upstairs with walls of wooden slats and acorrugated roofing. G/mama had no aircon, her electric items were just TV , Radio and Fridge with lights. Downstairs we had 2 rooms with concrete and plastered walls each room also had old style wooden windows (no glass panes) . the electric powered items in our rooms was the air-con and 2 standing Fans. There was the PC computer, two phones, iron, fridge, lighting and my gadgets from UK. we had no children expense (phew) our cooking was done outside, mostly on BBQ grill and a gas stove top using bottled gas that lasted months and months, even with grandma cooking sticky rice 24/7. One rickety old Datsun flatbed was our transport and here is what it all costed roughly every two weeks we did shopping at tesco lotus and one of those shopping trips was the big one. To begin Costing :MEALS We ate out most nights at the walking street or the local night market in Pa Sang. either 60 baht meals or just buy a mix of grilled meats 10-15 baht and a pouch of rice from different street food stall to eat at table. 5 out of 7 mornings we ate khao mon gai at our favourite restaurant or moo grob/khao ka moo/ khao moo daeng at restaraunt aunty big meals on big plates for 30 baht each plus drink 20 baht. :SHOPPING 1st of our shopping big we usually spend 2000-2500 baht. 2nd of our shoppping big we usuall spent around 1000-1300 baht laundry powders, and I insisted on luxury powders and liquids with super fresh 24 hour scents and luxury conditioners (180-240baht). my ex still insisted on buying her low cost (40 baht 80 baht) liquid in a bag 3-4 kilos of pork and chicken wings. Sometimes we would get whole fish to grill at home with steak and salmon for her sushi ( 240-380 baht) crisps, chocolate, my liquor for 7 nights black cock (60-80 baht) per 1/4 ltr bottle. cans of tuna, 4-5 cans to snack on. big mix of noodles for snacking on. crispy chicken skin small bag (55 baht) pineapples, apples, yoghurts candy or clothing for 2 neices (80-300 baht PHONE 300 baht each unlimited data, calls, texts including wifi at home (600 baht) ELECTRIC 2500 baht per month could be less if i wasn't awake every night gaming until 6-7 am SOCIALISING WEEKENDS Usually a family gathering at the uncles home 500 baht snake and ox meat my special request red and white whiskey 400 baht TRANSPORT petrol/deisel 300 baht per week wife travel to local work some mornings and if i wanted a day out to go see anywhere I find on maps then sometimes spend more on petrol (100-200 baht) CLOTHING 400-800 baht per month buying either thai fisherman farmer trousers or T-shirts from walking street night market (( As you can see from this list of costs on average shopping and other monthly expenses Thailand is NOT EXPENSIVE, and most of the expenses of higher cost are my items and not really necessary so costs could be even lower. Hopefully it gives anyone reading an idea of how affordable Thailand REALLY is and not once did I have any type of Food poisoning and I also ate foods that would be a straight NO back in UK. Though most offal is not on sale anymore like it used to be for our elderly relatives and previoiuos generations!)) However, Those videos saying that it IS EXPENSIVE, well, that's only if you are too above yourself to eat at streetfood carts or PROPER OG THAI RESTAURANTS that look "dodgy" according to all the stereotyped reports and heresy from a mate who has a mate who knows someone who ate a bad meal in INDIA!! ffs.. SO you eat at western style restaurants mostly, when you say you eat THAI FOOD thats only when you queue from 4 am to eat an 800 baht meal at the most famous Bangkok Street cart by celebrity woman chef (lucky if you can even get a table there ACTUALLY) but hey, realistically they know it's not even about the food it's about the instgram pose to say they have been there. Or maybe they can only eat KFC, PIZZA HUT, WENDYS BIG KAHUNA and pay 1200 bAHT FOR 1 MAIN COURSE.. Please forgive the lengthy comment, ADHD and Autism can be a nightmare sometimes lol, and I hope to see someone learn from this video and get their butts out to thailand ASAP. It really is one awesome country to visit and the people are the greatest most welcoming beings I have ever met, the experiences to be had you won't ever forget. From this Manc back in M/cr its over and out Sending blessings to you two and the children, be lucky, be rich, be healthy x
Ahh not going to lie, it took me a while to read through this comment hahaha but it's all good. I totally agree, we've seen so many videos of people doing cost of living videos in Thailand who aren't really living here, they're either on a really long trip with no intention of staying or come for a few weeks and did a video. Don't get me wrong, everyone has their own experiences and this is ours. People may have come and that's what they actually spend but that doesn't mean you can't live on the cheap in Thailand. Living on the cheap doesn't mean living poor either, I feel we live quite comfortably here. We're able to buy what we want when we want, looking back to when we were living back in England, we couldn't do that. We had to budget and carefully think through each purchase. When I say we buy what we want, I don't mean buying nice fancy cars or expensive equipment, I mean meals and supplies ect.. But thanks for the comment, sorry it took a while to reply haha but nice to see you living out here with a similar budget too! 😁😁
We're in Chachoengsao province, an hour or so from Bangkok and we can live pretty cheap here 😃🙏 But I agree, Phuket and other places can be much more expensive in comparison!
Considering the ever increasing waist lines of many who move to Thailand to live, I think people eat waaaaayyyyyy too much. It not only costs more money, it’s very unhealthy. I’ve trained myself in the US over the past 22 months to eat one-big-meal-per-day consisting of raw, multi-vegetable salads with berries and 16 oz (5kg) of protein (beef, eggs, salmon, sardines, herring, chicken, pork) I use extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I also eat nuts to satiate hunger. I rarely consume sugar, rice, bread, pasta, potatoes, beans, alcohol. I also walk 8 miles (13k) every other day. I was obese and on 7 medications. I lost 50 lbs. had the best blood test results ever and got off my 7 medications
At last somebody speaking sense!! I thought the reason to leave UK. And move to Thailand was for a different experience? Just discovered your channel keep doing what you're doing,,,stu. Uk
Haha thank you 🙏 Well yeah exactly that, if we wanted to live how we were living in the UK then we would've stayed there 😂 but we don't miss it one bit! Thanks so much 🙏
I intend to create a budget of 2000 pounds, which should be straightforward. I don't experience stress about my limited drinking habits. However, being a Thai citizen adds a unique aspect to it.
You guys need to give yourself more credit.. YOUNG HELTHY BEAUTIFUL FAMILY Money can never buy the 3 above. Stop biting on other TH-camrs, just live your life, vlog your memories for your kids and they’ll look back on this to see how cool their parents were 🤝🙏
Life in Thailand is easy when you are a Thai citizen, you can basically do whatever you want. You will never be destitute, you will always have a high paying job. You can make 4-5,000 baht a day driver Grab taxis in Phuket.
@@roystevenson1375 I pay 1500 baht my maid to clean my condo (6 hours). They usually cost 2500 baht for a maid cleaning. A Taxi ride is 400 baht on average for 30 minutes. Drive 10 people in 1 day in Phuket=4,000 baht. Can confirm when I asked Taxi cab drivers how many people they drive in a day. That's why even Thai people resort to violence for the taxi business here. They wouldn't beat each other up if it didn't pay crazy good.
Good for you doing it young 👏. We live on a 1000bt a day but we don't scrimp on anything, we live rural so no nightlife but we go out every night, car, pickup, 2 motorbikes, we like to go and try new coffee shops everyday, live like Kings on £25 a day 😀. What are you going to do when the children are older, our son is at university in Bangkok, not cheap.
Thank you 🙏 Ahh, living the dream! Sounds great! We're putting money aside for the children's education, when they're old enough to decide what they want to do we'll go from there 😊
The western corporate lifestyle is a vicious circle all flash and no cash keeping up with the Jones’s stress and anxiety then one day die leaving the family to fight over who wants what then on the circle goes ‘ a laidback frugal lifestyle is much better thanks guys for your video
This month was only 1300 so we can cut down when we need to 😅 We just have the aircon and TV on most of the time for the kids 😅 But we don't live on much at all and we're happy with that!
Please do a price breakdown on how much is total cost to buy the house, farm and 2 cars? We need an example for a regular Joe coming to Thailand without a place to stay and a vehicle for transportation.
I'm not sure we could do such a video as the cost of a car and house build can vary massively, and like we said ours were already here to take over for us so there weren't any costs as such! There's probably lots of videos on TH-cam that will show costs of vehicles and house builds etc 😊🙏
I live outside of city, luckily we have house and land and do farm. I spent for meat and seafood sometimes, not more than 200$ per month. It’s include everything already, because all is on farm 😍
Brilliant video, ive watched alot of thai budget videos and thought not realistic.and often thought why not live like the locals thank you Brilliant content
You look sweaty bruv. I’m wanting to move out there mostly because I’m so sick of the cold but also because the people out there and the cost of living. Might take me a year or two to get situated enough to move. I’m used to humid heat in MN where it gets to 90/100 and about 60% humidity and I’m hoping it’s not too hot for me out there 🥵
You think? We didn't think we looked that bad in this video, sometimes a lot worse 😂 Completely agree with why you would want to move! I'm not gonna lie and say it's not hot because it is haha, some days are unbearable, but we still would never move back to the UK 😅
Hey great video ! Great to see Camilla and hear her thoughts. I've been interested in hearing your particular costs. We would be in the same position, as in already would have a house with arwin s mum. How are you getting by with health insurance? It's the health insurance and school fees I think which would be a big expense to us. I totally think you're right people talking about living on a ridiculous amount is if they want to live a Western lifestyle.... if you love Thailand...... live like a thai
Thank you for watching, it's good to know people are in similar situations to us! As with anything, it's down to the individuals, our health insurance isn't so bad as we're still younger than 30 and our health is pretty good so it's much cheaper for us. As for schools we will be putting the girls into local Thai government schools until they reach an age where they can decide what route they want to go down and we'll be putting money aside for then 😊 We love how we live, it's all subjective at the end of the day 🙏
My God that accent it freaks me out! but love it.. reminds me of when I was looking for a room in Reading, UK and when this Chinese guy opened the door and then proceeded with the most heavvvvyyy Scottish accent it blew me away. Well, just shows when people say "This is my land!!!" makes them just look small minded...
When j lived In THAILAND, I budgeted £3 to £5 a day for food and drink. Accommodation varied from 3000 to 7000 bhat per month with electric and water. Try cooking with charcoal, no AC fan only. Good luck to you both. Biggest thing is sharing food with neighbours and looking after each other. Forgot to mention married to a Thai. 2 kids, and wife family to help out.
Luckily it's only the electricity that we really have to pay for each month, but that isn't too bad. We need the AC for the kids while they're young and not used to the heat, they're still at the ages where they can't fully regulate their temperatures, but perhaps in the future we'll switch to fans only! The gas bottle has lasted us 5 months so far so it's a good investment 😁 We don't really have any neighbours, only a couple of us on this dirt road 😅 My uncle is next door and on hand to help with anything on the farm, but as for everything else it's just myself and Camila, we have no help here! But we're happy 😊
Think it's brilliant what you guys are doing. Little by little you will get there. Diversify your crops and animals, small regenerative agriculture and lowering your feed costs are things to look at. Look into making biochar as a fertiliser and different water plants that the fish can feed off.
Thanks so much for the tips! 🙏 Definitely little by little, although we've only been here for 5 months I feel like we've done loads 😂 But yes, we'll get there, thank you 🙏
Best of luck to you. I live quite well in northern bkk. Large condo 50 sqm 10,000b electric & water about 1400b. Eat Thai food daily , swim , walk , read , cycle .. have a Thai gf who works in bank. Been here 9 months so far .. I have savings in uk 🇬🇧 & TF my monthly bank pension. All is great so far. I’m sensible not go party & rarely drink. Have the occasional holiday. Happy to have escaped the ridiculous uk prices ..

Bangkok is expensive. Just a warning.
@@taccntb4345 That depends on the individual's lifestyle, it's still very very affordable, especially compared to many other places in the world.
@@taccntb4345 I recommend that you check your facts, an average Thai worker makes no where near 30k USD.. that's a higher wage than the average in the UK which is classed as one of the most wealthiest 😂
Eating out isn't that expensive, a meal can cost $1-1.50 on the streets. Sometimes it costs more to cook, but it's also part of culture to eat out.
Also Bangkok is a capital city, of course it's going to be more expensive than most of Thailand, anyone would be a fool to think otherwise. Try living in London or Paris for cheap..
@NativeFarang I lived in LA for 20 years, my limey friend. I know about expensive.
As for Thai wages... I'd love to see your statistics.
I do treat myself once in a while but for example if I buy new artical of clothing, I give away a artical of clothing (I remember giving away to goodwill bags of clothes I rarely ever wore
By the way, I'm 58 going on 59.
Thanks again ❤
Spot on Nat. Exactly why I know I can stay here with the kids. Especially with the house here
That's a good attitude, Mate! Stay strong!!
Hope your Ok mate
Cheers Ricky, we believe you'll survive out here. There are lots of opportunities to make money.. just gotta stay strong and get through it mate you'll find your feet.
@rickyisaan. We are thinking of you buddy. If you need anything, please reach out. 🙏🙏
Ricky, can you move to be a neighbor of Camilla and Natt? At least you have the support system. Your twins can grow up with Malory and Kaya.
For some people, like myself, you guys are rich.
Maybe not money wise, but being able to enjoy life, as simple as it can be, without being dictated on what you should do..
That's where the real value comes from.
Keep that mindset, sit back and enjoy that beautiful ride!
Exactly no one controlling your life 😊
Completely agree, that's all we wanted and we're happier and healthier than ever! 😊🙏
I have my pants down daily so my budget goes out the window, enjoyed listening to your perspective on the topic :)
😂😂😂 Pull your pants back up and carry on! Appreciate the comment 🙏
Guys you are doing it the right way in Thailand living like the locals and keeping it real in your vlogs ,a lot of other TH-camrs are just trying to flex whilst talking utter nonsense .
Keep up the great work guys
Ahhh thanks so much for the positive comment 🙏🙏
obviously you are some sort of guru then and we should all agree with your , in my opinion your statement is utter rubbish.
Just found your channel today in my recommendations. Awesome video 👍🏻
I live in Thailand half the year and watching this I have realised I waste far too much money when I’m staying there. Definitely going to try and cut back when I’m back over.
Ahh thank you so much for watching, glad you enjoyed! Ahh it's still definitely a very affordable country, if you cut back on a few things 😊 But money is there to be spent I guess 😅
Hi guys
You’re both doing well with your new life and surroundings, think of all the crap you had in your old life back home , stuff you didn’t need but others had it so you needed it also , and it is only stuff , you’re living a life now that allows you to be with your kids every day and enjoy them , you can’t buy that , you’re doing well and when it’s all as you want it then it will be a little easier , all the best and regards Davy 🏴🇹🇭
That's so true! It's all down to the individual and the lifestyle you want to live but ultimately it can be done very cheaply 😊
Cheap Thai food isn't particularly healthy.
Great blog guys.
It's great to see you two.happy and living how you want to live.! And being real about things and honest.🙏👍
Thank you so much 😊🙏
Absolute bang on guys. This is exactly what people want to hear. Being non materialistic is living a real life, here & now. Love it.
I totally agree with you regards many other TH-camrs with their overly inflated cost of living.
Thank you so much, we're happy with how we live, happier than ever 😊
So true, some of these "budgets" I wouldn't even spend back in the UK let alone in an affordable country like Thailand 😂
You guys are down to earth and living and eating like locals with a simple life and rich in happiness..
Ahh thank you so much, we're happier than we've ever been 😁🙏
We live up in Issan in a village.
@@NativeFarang Ouch!
We’ve 2 bedroom house and 1 bedroom mini house … air conditioning in 1 bedroom (2 bedroom house on 24/7 @ 26c electric 3300 baht @ $100 USD
Our aircon isn't on 24/7 so that definitely saves a lot 😅
Great honest video. It’s your first year and this is the depths of rainy season! You’ve got each other, two lovely kids and a bright different future. Happy times ahead. Good luck …
Ahh thanks so much for the kind words 😊🙏
Great video. I love Thailand and have travelled there extensively over the last 7 years. I have a very decent retirement income and want to retire (for around 6 a 8 months pa) to the North, Chiang Mai/Chiang Rai, whilst retaining my U.K. home and roots, and your lifestyle shows this is perfectly realistic. Just need to improve my language skills. 😎
Thank you so much! All the best with your retirement plans 🙏
Thank you so much for the kind words and support 😊🙏
you're a champ I would die 😂
I love listening to the two of you very real advice. Luv from Texas. Have a beautiful day ty.
Ahhh lovely comment, thank you so much 😊🙏
Somehow I admire you both, the farm as a source of income, that takes real courage.
Good to see ya back guys thanks for the honest vid
Ah thanks so much! 🙏
Me and the wife are planning for 30K a month, but will probably be less than that.
We just feel its better to plan for more than what you need. But then again we have some time left before we can move, as we are waiting for my wife and stepson to get citizenship in Norway first. Just so he can choose where he wants to live.
That's very true, better to plan for more rather than less, but I believe you will be very comfortable on that budget! All the best 🙏😊

Will keep watching ya! ❤️

Ahh thank you so much for the kind words and support 😁🙏
Minimum wage is nothing like what most earn. 7000 a month, six day week is common
Exactly except Bangkok it's a lot more
It's very varied across the country I think, but it definitely isn't anywhere near the 50k that some people are claiming is budget 😅
That was a great honest vlog. Well done, you are both very honest and inspirational people.
Ahh that's very kind, thank you so much 😊🙏

Just subscribed and love watching your videos. Life to enjoy and You're just doing that.Best of luck with everything

I become a kinda hybrid minimilist lol 😂a few years ago and have much more peace and feel much lighter . Thanks for the video❤
Ahh thank you so much 🙏 Haha its definitely a happier way of living that's for sure! Thanks for watching 😁
That sounds amazing! But yes it's all down to the individual and the lifestyle you want to live, ultimately it can be done very cheaply 😊

Ahh that's amazing, we wish you all the best! 😊🙏
I love this video! Super down to earth and very attainable for Westerners. You're fortunate to have what you have BUT your greatest asset is your family and lifestyle. It seems like you have the freedom and balance for a healthy lifestyle! Keep it up!

@@NativeFarang
Medicine costs, medical expenses Let you go see a doctor at the district hospital or sub-district hospital.
I'm paying 2k per month for my place plus bills. So with motorbike hire and food and petrol I spend about 10k to 20k per month.
That's a solid budget! 😊
spot on Nat, i told you what budget i was living of for the past 15 years with 2 persons like you say we live here so we live like Thais. keep up the good content.

We just wanted to show how we live and what we spend, and that it can be done very cheaply if you're happy to live a certain way 😊 Thank you for the comment, appreciate it 🙏
Requirements for longstay Visa is 800.000 in bank and atleast 65.000/monthly income...
Actual living costs here are very good but beer seems to cost me more than food each day it all depends on lifestyle
Most definitely depends on lifestyle and individual choices! Alcohol is pretty expensive in Thailand 😅
My retirement day's will be in a little farm just south of Bangkok , 6 or 10 year's time maybe sooner , see what happens.
That sounds great, all the best! 🙏
Everyone has their own set of circumstances which can vary massively, but on the whole Thailand is still a very affordable country to live in 😊
Just found your channel.
Well done, you guys are going to have a wonderful life.
Am looking forward to watching your journey.
Welcome to the channel! Thank you for the support 🙏
here in New Zealand i run a fridge, a chest freezer, a laptop and 1 light and per month(no heater, no aircon) my electricity is $200nzd plus per month($4500THB roughly)
if i was running aircon my bill would be equivalent of 10,000thb a month.
its crazy
Wow! Our bill in England when we left was around £3000! It's madness
Good honest blog - loved it. You might not believe this, but where I live (Buriram) most of the farang are living on pennies. Forget what some Farang tell you, most are on overstay or are on fake visas, but they still talk in telephone numbers 🤔 I am still amazed how reasonable the cost of living is here, which is great and I still don't understand how the locals can afford their luxuries (big pick-up trucks / iPhones etc.), hey ho, that's Thailand for you 😃
Hahaha so true, the local Thais here have better vehicles and technology than we do 🤣

Great video. We have just built our house on 2000 sq mtrs of land in isaan, coming over at the end of the month for the house ceremony.
Thank you 🙏 Hahaha so true, glad you're thinking of making the move also, all the best with your retirement plans 😊🙏

Quick headsup "COST OF LIFE IN UK - IT AIN'T CHEAP" 🤣🤣🤣
Anyway. after such a pleasing video I thought I'd leave a positive comment to confirm the costs you both mention when living REAL THAI LIFE are TRUE
me and my ex-wife lived at ground level in a small section of an old style Thai House up on stilts and grandma lived upstairs with walls of wooden slats and acorrugated roofing.
There was the PC computer, two phones, iron, fridge, lighting and my gadgets from UK. we had no children expense (phew)
our cooking was done outside, mostly on BBQ grill and a gas stove top using bottled gas that lasted months and months, even with grandma cooking sticky rice 24/7. One rickety old Datsun flatbed was our transport and here is what it all costed roughly
every two weeks we did shopping at tesco lotus and one of those shopping trips was the big one.
To begin Costing
:MEALS
We ate out most nights at the walking street or the local night market in Pa Sang. either 60 baht meals or just buy a mix of grilled meats 10-15 baht and a pouch of rice from different street food stall to eat at table.
5 out of 7 mornings we ate khao mon gai at our favourite restaurant or moo grob/khao ka moo/ khao moo daeng at restaraunt aunty big meals on big plates for 30 baht each plus drink 20 baht.
:SHOPPING
1st of our shopping big we usually spend 2000-2500 baht.
2nd of our shoppping big we usuall spent around 1000-1300 baht
laundry powders, and I insisted on luxury powders and liquids with super fresh 24 hour scents and luxury conditioners (180-240baht). my ex still insisted on buying her low cost (40 baht 80 baht) liquid in a bag
3-4 kilos of pork and chicken wings. Sometimes we would get whole fish to grill at home with steak and salmon for her sushi ( 240-380 baht)
crisps, chocolate, my liquor for 7 nights black cock (60-80 baht) per 1/4 ltr bottle.
cans of tuna, 4-5 cans to snack on.
big mix of noodles for snacking on.
crispy chicken skin small bag (55 baht)
pineapples, apples, yoghurts
candy or clothing for 2 neices (80-300 baht
PHONE
300 baht each unlimited data, calls, texts including wifi at home (600 baht)
ELECTRIC
2500 baht per month could be less if i wasn't awake every night gaming until 6-7 am
SOCIALISING WEEKENDS
Usually a family gathering at the uncles home
500 baht snake and ox meat my special request
red and white whiskey 400 baht
TRANSPORT
petrol/deisel 300 baht per week wife travel to local work some mornings and if i wanted a day out to go see anywhere I find on maps then sometimes spend more on petrol (100-200 baht)
CLOTHING
400-800 baht per month buying either thai fisherman farmer trousers or T-shirts from walking street night market
(( As you can see from this list of costs on average shopping and other monthly expenses Thailand is NOT EXPENSIVE, and most of the expenses of higher cost are my items and not really necessary so costs could be even lower. Hopefully it gives anyone reading an idea of how affordable Thailand REALLY is and not once did I have any type of Food poisoning and I also ate foods that would be a straight NO back in UK. Though most offal is not on sale anymore like it used to be for our elderly relatives and previoiuos generations!))
However, Those videos saying that it IS EXPENSIVE, well, that's only if you are too above yourself to eat at streetfood carts or PROPER OG THAI RESTAURANTS that look "dodgy" according to all the stereotyped reports and heresy from a mate who has a mate who knows someone who ate a bad meal in INDIA!!
From this Manc back in M/cr its over and out
Sending blessings to you two and the children, be lucky, be rich, be healthy x
You both are rich in life 🙌🙏
Definitely! 🙏
5000 baht = US 150 (approx)
5000 baht = $190 Sing dollars.
If you are in Essan you don’t have to spend alot as compare to if you are in BK or Phuket.
Healthy eating can definitely be done cheaply in Thailand, it's up to the individual at the end of the day 😊
At last somebody speaking sense!! I thought the reason to leave UK. And move to Thailand was for a different experience? Just discovered your channel keep doing what you're doing,,,stu. Uk

Life in Thailand is easy when you are a Thai citizen, you can basically do whatever you want. You will never be destitute, you will always have a high paying job. You can make 4-5,000 baht a day driver Grab taxis in Phuket.
Exactly that!
I think it would be very difficult for a grab driver to lift 4-5000 a day. .where do these figures come from
@@roystevenson1375 I pay 1500 baht my maid to clean my condo (6 hours). They wouldn't beat each other up if it didn't pay crazy good.
great video !!! we are building a house in thailand now and we will be there soon i cant wait to live farm life!!

Good video mate we have farm land in Khon kaen and yes you can live cheap we are trying to leave Australia 🇦🇺 in about 5 years to move to Thailand
Thank you so much 🙏 All the best with your move, hopefully you can come sooner! 😊
Farm life is definitely the best way to live, own produce is so rewarding and keeps costs low! 😊🙏
I'll give you my respect because you're the first person who tells you what it is

rainy season is the best time of year. its not hot and don't have to water the gardens :D

really enjoy your videos!

We have a lady in our village cooking meals, pad Thai, pad kra pow, green curry etc everything is a pound. Live like a Thai, you can't go wrong.

I'm not gonna lie and say it's not hot because it is haha, some days are unbearable, but we still would never move back to the UK 😅
you look fabulous!!!! 🥰 😀 ❤ I was just giving you crap, but Ty so much for your reply! Your channel is super helpful
👍. Agreed. Camilla's input adds a lot of value.
Great information . If you guys put together a guide or pdf or something, that would be great.

Hahaha it definitely catches most people off guard 🤣🤣🤣
