Hi Ian, the kit looks a great kit, and going by your review it will be a fantastic kit when built, looking forward to the first build video, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia, Les

Hi Les, I’m on the fence about this kit, the instructions are hopeless really with the lack of colour call outs and missing steps. I’m confident that the kit will build into a good display model hopefully there will not be too many pitfalls, first episode up tomorrow 😁👍

After following your amazing Catalina build, I can't wait to follow you with this build. The Border models aircraft are beautifully moulded and detailed, but yet the instructions are a bit lacking :) I am sure that you will do it justice. Thanks

Thanks, I hope I can show the kit off well getting the best out of the fantastic detail, I have the bf-109 on order too so will be interesting to compare the two kits. Part 1 of the build is live on Wednesday 😁👍

Great review, I have a started BM 109 and it’s very nice but issues with some clear parts moulded in grey (gunsight) and missing instrument decals 🤦🏻‍♂️
I’ve built the BM Stuka and the kit itself is awesome for fit and detail wise but some suspect instructions and no paint callouts during build…you do get the 109 missing decals as well though 🤷🏻‍♂️ and the Stuka decals themselves are incredible!
I don’t think I can face another Spitfire just yet but will follow this with interest and have half an eye on the IJN Kate imo think it is

Many thanks for the feedback, it good to hear the 109 is a nice kit too, I am also looking at the 87 but will get the spot and 109 completed first before I go for any more. I am looking forward to the He111 but would really love to see a Beaufighter in 35th scale, it would be amazing 😁👍

I’m interested to see if the kit comes together clean. Is a lot of putty needed? Cutting & sanding? Thanks for testing this product.

Thanks fir your feedback, the video build series I’ve made fir this kit should hopefully answer your questions, the only filler I needed was a little Mr Surfacer 500 on the wing rout joint that I let harden before wiping away with a Qtip soaked in cellulose thinner.😁👍

I have lived and breathed Spitfires for near on six months with the Airfix 1/24th builds I have done. I can safely say I wont be building another Spitfire for many many years. I'm sick to death of them 🤣 The kit looks great but those decals need to go in the bin. Totally horrible in every way. Good luck with the build. ( paint the decals on though) 😀

Six months of 24th scale Airfix’s spits, that’s a task and a half. I agree with your opinion on the decals, but I’ll have to give them a go to see how they perform, they can’t be any worse than the Takom Apache decals😫😫

@@KitchenTableModeller It's just the colours are way off and the way they have overlaid the red over the blue causing a purple/black inner ring on the top wing decal. The lettering looks fine.

Totally agree it look wrong, I might cut those as masks and paint them.

Border Models has what looks to be incredible kits and future releases.
In the case of this model it share some odd similarities to the 1/24 Trumpeter #2403 Mk.Vb. I built this kit as a birthday present.
The most obvious reason to believe BM used the Trump in their design; The horizontal stabilizer two halves are molded as fabric covered instead of correctly riveted. Easy fix. The cockpit opening is too wide making the windshield too wide. Difficult to fix but not overly obvious. The thick plate covering the fuel tanks ahead of the windshield is not represented. Easy fix. Cockpit and engine bay is not very accurate. Despite the issues the 1/24 Trumpeter built into an impressive model after modifications so the same should be the case with this kit. The decals were more accurate for colour.
Like Richard's Modelling Adventures, i built two of the Airfix Mk.IXc, taking two years to complete. Lots of mods, corrections and improvements. I have them posed in flight on custom stainless steel stands with my own sculpted pilots as Johnnie E Johnston and George F Beurling. Unlike Richard I have two more of the kit to build and look forward to it. There are two vids on my channel of the 1/24 Spitfires if interested.

Is there a way to polish the canopy problems out?

To be honest I’m not sure, it’s something I’m going to look at and confirm during the build👍

With the price of kits today all it takes is one or two disappointments and I won't buy !

Very fair comment, it doesn’t take much to make you question the value of a kit that has so many errors which could have been avoided by a good quality control system.
